32 May 5th, 2015 GH’s Jason Thompson Shares The Inspiration Behind Writing Patrick & Emma’s Nurses Ball Tune: “Nothing I Can’t Do” Now Available on iTunes!

All the rage since Monday’s episode of General Hospital’s Nurses Ball part two was the adorable and touching musical performance by Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) and his daughter Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer).

At the ball, the father/daughter duo took to the stage with guitars in hand and performed the tune: Nothing I Can’t Do!  And if you listened to the lyrics it was the perfect song knowing the history of these characters.  And, who can forget Grandma Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) shedding a tear watching her granddaughter perform the song so well!

But what fans didn’t know until today was that Jason Thompson actually wrote the music and the lyrics, and the arrangement for the duet.  It was recorded by GH’s musical director, Paul Glass, and the song is  also now available on iTunes!

So, how did it come about that Jason crafted this tune for the Nurses Ball 2015?  This afternoon, he shared the following with On-Air On-Soaps: Jason related:  “It was Brooklyn’s idea to do a duet.  She told Frank (Valentini), and when she gets excited about something it’s pretty tough to say “no” to her.   I asked if I could write it, and so it went.  I spent a few days just thinking about it, bringing in personal elements that I know she would love …  like the “Glitter” line …  she LOVES glitter.  I thought story-wise it would be really a beautiful thing to share … their are own lullaby.  One they could sing together … and something Patrick could believe in also.  Let alone Brooklyn and Jason .. and of course, Paul Glass, our music man, brought it to life.”

Watch Jason Thompson and Brooklyn Rae Silzer perform Nothing I Can’t Do after the jump! Then let us know what you thought of the tune, Jason’s inspiration for writing it, and the duet during the Nurses Ball!

The Song was perfect for them!
ALL, all the numbers of the Nurses Ball were top notch and very entertaining..
The cast and crew put much thought. hard work and and care to bring us the Nurses Ball..
The participating cast had fun performing for us and I had a fun time watching them all :)

(why some found need to bitch and whine/complain about the Ball, I do not understand))

THANKS to all who brought us the Nurses Ball, 2015 !!!

It was the only musical number I really liked— but you would have to have a heart of stone, not to be moved by that number. The only thing that might have made it better is if they could have shown Robin in Paris watching that number on the internet—but that is just a tiny flaw, otherwise, for me it was the highlight of the Nurse’s Ball.

Without knowing Jason Thompson wrote the song…. I felt that this duet/number with Brooklyn and Jason T, was by far was the top performances on a whole, at the Nurses Ball. So personal, so moving.

ahh I dunno about that, Jeremy :) ..
    It was touching and cute
    but-
Duke and Anna’s tango was sensational ..
I really was giggly seeing their sensual dance, could feel their love..
They were very good, the tango suits them well ..

I don’t know , Su. I LOVE Duke…but even I have to admit he seems very wooden in his dialog and dance. The backdrop of the two of them dancing when they were younger was stunning…as were the two of them. But I felt lile Anna during the Ball dance could have been dancing with a broom. Ian doesn’t seem to be ” bringing” it this time around. Don’t know why…he’s a seasoned soap guy/actor and certainly has the looks/talent…

Loved Patrick and Emma. Childhood delight and innocence, daddy’s little girl….sweetness personified.

I love their tango. A real highlight for me.

The tango has been done before BUT, it could be Anna and Duke’s last?

It really was one of the better moments of the Nurse’s Ball. Brooklyn is such a great little actress and it is clear that Jason and her have something special when they act and sing together.

It was nice of the Silzer family to let GH use those clips and photos of Brooklyn.

i loved it b/c of the chorus. patrick was a “race car driver” (too) when he got to PC, and of course, robin’s a dr. it was sweet 2 hear “their daughter” singing about growing up to be either, or whatever she wanted.

GH saved some of the best for last…Patrick and Emma duet, and Sabrina singing ‘It Might Be You,’ the theme song from Tootsie (a great “soap” movie). I’ve also liked all of Lucy’s dresses/gowns. They stand at least on par with the probably-way-more-expensive-ones on other Red Carpets seen on prime-time networks, as does Lucy and many performers at the Nurses Ball. Hint, hint…bring the Daytime Emmys to national tv so everyone can see them live.

Oops! It was Spinelli singing ‘It Might Be You.’ But I also thought Sabrina and Epiphany did a nice rendition of ‘You’re Not Alone.’ Just shows what great talent the actors on GH have.

Special song which has a great message. Also enjoyed Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) meaningful song to Kirsten Storms (Maxi) and Emily Wilson (Ellie).

I really enjoyed listening to Spinelli singing “It might be you” He did a great job looking torn between Maxie and Ellie. That was my favorite. I’m just not into most of the songs from the first part, not my cup of tea.

I’ve watched this performance several times now and I still get teary eyed. Definitely a major highlight at the Nurse’s Ball. Jason and Brooklyn were incredible and portray a beautiful father and daughter relationship. It’s also nice to know that JT wrote the song himself. He’s very talented. Would love to hear more music of his or even see him guest star on something like Nashville.

This song was awesome…..from writing to execution to performance. Other than this song, they just basically dusted off last year’s script and performance roster and ‘re-used it. What’s funny to me is when do these people find time to come together and rehearse?? Lol. They are battling mobsters and murderers but somehow find the time to get together to practice and choreograph show numbers. And honestly…after 3 years…I would much rather be alone than ever hear that finale song again. Please…….

Jason & Brooklyn are “the real deal.” If there was an Emmy for best actors in a parent/child relationship on a Daytime Drama, it would be Jason & Brooklyn, as Dr. Patrick Drake & Emma Scorpio Drake! Bravo to both of them for this CHARMING, heartfelt musical performance!
