Daytime Emmy winner, and a nominee again this year, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jacks) of General Hospital was the very special guest on today’s episode of the ABC foodie show, The Chew. Wright was on to promote her increasing popular wine business, Standing Sun complete with a look at Laura and her husband John’s home and their winery. After the very nice at home and business segment, Laura watched and assisted Chef and co-host Mario Batali cook a pasta dish along with Michael Symon.
What caught our eye was how Batali kept looking at his note cards, when asking questions to Wright or trying to sound informed about her soap life! And then came Batali’s attempt for The Chew to save face for soap fans who may have tuning into to see the talented Wright. Batali said, “Daytime TV fans weren’t quite ready for us when they started, but I think we made some moves, and a lot of people that used to watch some of the shows find them at different times, and now we’re part of that same beautiful daytime pop culture which makes us very proud.” One thing was for sure, the studio audience was extremely excited to have Laura on the show!
Then One Life to Live star, Robin Strasser (Dorian) took to her Twitter account to air her feelings on Wright’s appearance! Strasser tweeted, “Laura Wright is wrong praising the Chew, confusing protecting her own job with love/fun/or that bad food. 800 jobs lost when OLTL cancelled. My Toxic tweet now out there, I’ll add that I think Laura Wright is talented, beautiful, and strong. Nobody’s perfect- The Chew – is the proof.”
To us, Wright was on the show to help promote her business venture. Something that makes logical sense given the cross-promotion on the ABC lineup and Wright’s winery fits in with a food show. However, some are skewing it differently. Now, watch the two video segments with Wright after the jump! And then let us know about how you think Mario Batali did in the cooking segment with Wright! And, your thoughts on Laura appearing on The Chew!
