304 December 19th, 2017 GH’s Steve Burton Asks Fan Factions To Stop Inciting Bashing And Hatred

As we know, sometimes the Twitterverse can get very ugly.  And over the last month, passionate fan bases of General Hospital have let their voices be heard.  However, some have taken it to a level that has been negative towards the actors who are portraying a storyline, or popular fan bases insulting each other.

Stemming from the big reveal that Steve Burton is the true Jason Morgan, and Billy Miller is now playing his twin brother, Drew, with the love of both men’s life, Sam (Kelly Monaco) caught in the middle, there has been an escalation in bashing on social media that has had all three actors have asking the fans to please be kind to their co-workers, and to each other, and to stop the hatred.

Steve Burton took to his Twitter account and said: “Please stop. There is no ill will with @kellymonaco1 or . We are a team of actors telling a story. We are a team delivering the story we are given. No hate. No fan wars. We we one.”

Meanwhile over Thanksgiving, Kelly Monaco posted:  “Hey @GeneralHospital fans, maybe you didn’t hear us. We #choosekindness. #billymiller and I appreciate any support but not at the expense of our costars. #killywithkindness #HappyThanksgiving #letsallplaynice #gh

So, can we all just enjoy the ride of this rollercoaster of a storyline. and respect the fantastic talents of all three actors involved, and if we have a difference of opinion, and it’s not the way we want a pairing or reveal to go, express ourselves in a way that does not hurt anyone’s feelings? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comment section below.

It’s pathetic how some people act. First they think the actors really are the characters. “I can’t believe X did that. I hate X.” Well X is a character and the actor is playing a role. And a writer is writing things. There’s nothing wrong with liking a show and rooting on a storyline but some people truly can’t separate real life from a tv show

See, that’s just the thing, Julie ( with all due respect)…..I find no hatred. ….not on these sites, anyway….As for myself, I never use the word ‘hate’….such a harsh, inhuman concept for me. Yes, admittedly, many do use the word….but, from what I’ve read so far, the loathing is directed towards the characters—the part the actors/actresses play.
I am somewhat baffled here. Is the “hatred” of which you speak on Twitter? I do not see any here. ….glad I’m not on Twitter. It must be, …..I see many names I do not recognize.
In that case, I will keep anything which does not pertain to tweets to myself.
It is a sad state we live in if people cannot separate character from actor.

I just wish they would have let Billy Miller be the Real Jason Morgan for the kids’ sake. That way Sam would’ve had her 2 kids, and then Jake also would be the full brother. Now they have it where Sam has Danny and Jake with Steve Burton, and Scout with Billy Miller.

    Cassandra replied

I kinda agree with you but gotta keep things interesting at the same time which they have definitely succeeded at. Also Jake is Jason and Elizabeth’s son but yes I feel bad for everyone involved especially the kids it will be difficult for them to understand. No matter who Sam finally decides to be with in the end, the other man with have to be okay with the other brother still being a part of their lives because she now has a child by each brother.

    I agree

I personally have been watching since 1979. There should be no shock at the outcome of who turned out to be Jason Morgan; however, Billy Miller.is a huge asset to GH and I’ve enjoyed his time on the show. Here’s hoping for great story lines for all of them for as long as we are lucky to have them all. The chemistry between Steve, Billy, and Kelly cannot be ignored.

    Reba Cox replied

Jake is Elizabeth and Jason’s son.

    AJ replied

But honestly Diana, that’s the problem. Read what you wrote – “for the kids’ sake” GH is a soap opera. Kids all have different parents. Look at Sonny’s kids. Look at Alexis’ kids. Look at Liz’s kids. Who cares who is the parent of Danny, Jake, and Scout. They’re characters, they’re not real people.

    Donna Bradley replied

Sam only has Danny with Jason. Jake is Elizabeth’s and Jason’s.

    Harry replied

I agree, this is insanity. How on earth does such a thing happen? That is, how does the merger between fiction and reality occur in the frontal lobes of the brain? Is this a psychological disorder of some kind?
I figure these new sub soap groups are casualties of the equally absurd Liaison vs Jasam wars. Perhaps the insanity will subside when Jason and Drew bond as brothers. Billy Miller is coming alive and finding his footing with his Drew character. His old spark is back. If any of you Killy or JaSam fans are reading this, just relax and have some fun! Soap operas are served up as a great plate of escapism from our problems. Let it be as such for you.

    Jan k replied

    Agree !!!

    Jo replied

Oh my gosh, it’s a show/soap opera, NOT REAL LIFE! The children on the “soap opera” have actual parents in

“How on earth does such a thing happen? That is, how does the merger between fiction and reality occur in the frontal lobes of the brain? Is this a psychological disorder of some kind?”

You know what Harry, there are rabid fans out there who blur the lines. Everyone knows those fans are out there, and what they are capable of.

I can appreciate Steve’s tweet for people to stop. I find Kelly’s tweet a little less convincing or maybe just a little too late. Unfortunately, a lot of actors play up to these rabid fans and I’ve seen her do that and blur the lines between fiction and reality; sending out pictures of her and Billy, hashtagging their squish name Killy, which is their real names, not the character’s names, using hand singles, and frankly suggesting a personal relationship that may or may not exist.

This personal relationship that Kelly and Billy may or may not have is a source of a lot of the contention among Killy fans; they think they are together in real life and that Steve is now disrupting their personal and professional lives by coming back. Kelly on social media, in interviews, at events, has played to these people and kept them guessing. It’s been a way to keep them interested and engaged and now we see the results.

    Harry replied

MB, thank you for your response. I honestly didn’t know that about Kelly Monaco on Twitter. Interesting and a little vexing. I
I recall watching Susan Lucci being interviewed By Regis Philbin wayyyyy back in the early 80s. She spoke of the time she was in a grocery store and a woman slapped her across the face and called her a home wrecker. This was way before social media was a thing. Then when Finola Hughes arrived in Port Charles as Anna Devane to serve as Robert Scorpio’s new love interest, the actress received death threats in the mail from rabid Holly and Robert Scorpio fans. This was also before the Internet brought us Twitter and Facebook.
So what I guess I am trying to say is that we can’t blame Twitter for this interesting psychological phenomenon. But what I think Twitter does do is it does away with impulse control issues and the poster (the Twitterer?) can hide behind a mask of anonymity which emboldens them. I am sure there is more to it than that but I am at a lost as to how to explain it because I simply don’t understand it.

    DLO replied

Get real, this is not real life and these characters are given a script to follow. Have fun with it and whatever happens, it never stays the same for long. Happiness on a soap is short lived.

Fans need to grow the &@$@!( Up!!!!!!! Seriously??!?!? Things are so bad that A TORS have to ask fans to tone it down?! That makes me embarrassed to be a fan!!! To put this into a historical/modern perspective, I remember reading as a child that Eileen Fulton said when she played Lisa as a total bitch on As The Workd Turns, not only did little old
Ladies swat her in supermarkets, but she used to get actual death threats. Fast forward 40 years, and thanks to social media, things are worse, not better!! People who cannot distinguish between television and reality should NOT be allowed to own a television!! In his hypersensitive era when adults are preaching down to kids about bullying, dim-witted adults are some of the biggest and most dangerous bullies around!! This is absurd and ludicrous that performers should have to call out to fans to stop the hate!! I think any fan reading this needs to take a good long look at themselves and decide if they are a fan or a fanatic!! Writing thoughtful, impassioned letters on this or other board is one thing….I do that myself! But “inciting hate” means that the actors are actually worried or fearful about what some fans could or would do!! That means people have crossed the line!!!

As a long term observer of human behavior, I knew Twitter was going to be more trouble than it was worth, when they first rolled it out. There’s a reason the Devil still does not have a Twitter account. Or Facebook either, for that matter.

And as far as the hatred from the fan bases…. not sure where it’s coming from. Jason & Drew seem to be in a “better place” with each other, and will likely be working together to solve the mysteries of their mutual “lost years”. Sam seems genuinely conflicted – and who the Hell wouldn’t be, in her position?

    Celia replied

True, Satan. Christmas is all about money….its true meaning gets lost in the fray: CAPITALISM.
It is tradition more than anything else. But, there are those of us who believe and follow tradition, at the same time.
We celebrate the birth (albeit Christ was born, if I remember correctly, in June, when all the merchants gathered from hither and yon, to sell and trade their wares)…. All the inns were taken…the reason why Mary and Joseph could not find ….. learned this in “Religions of the World” course I took as a post-graduate.
To make a long story short, December 25 was chosen as Christ’s birth to replace the Roman pagan celebration “Saturnalia”…..calendrical-wise, it was very convenient.
Nonetheless, this minor ‘adjustment’ does not minimize the magnitude of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
I am sure the crap is directed toward the capitalistic ‘hoopla’ and not the Man who died for us.
    Protect our soul……no blasphemy here, right?…. Oops….forgot for a minute…..You are Satan.

    Hi, Jimmy,
I can see how Satan’s comment may be misconstrued, but, in his defense ( I am not a Satan worshipper, DOUBLE LOL), I do not think Satan meant to insult Christmas, that is, the birth of Christ…..as I stated, he is right about Devember 25th not being Jesus’ true Birth Day.
He was just pointing out that Christmas has become a multi-billion dollar business. When we think of Christmas, we think of its meaning last, or some of us, not st all…we do not observe it as a Holy, Blessed day……we all stress out about gifts and baking and cooking…..and, of course, lining the pockets and filling the coffers of giant companies…..Capitalism.
He was just making a point.
    It’s all good, my friend…luv-ya!!

You need to grow up too and stop referring to yourself as satan. While you may well be one of his ambassadors on earth, you aren’t him. It’s not funny, it’s not cute, it’s not appreciated, it’s just annoying and stupid. You are an attention seeker who has a need to rile up groups of people en masse. Look, this has been a passionate story and fans do get emotional over it. They get invested emotionally. It’s never okay to spread hatred or speak negatively about the artists portraying these characters. We can speak up about the storyline and express our opinions about it. The jury is still out as far as I’m concerned about the way this story is being written. I have my own opinion about how I would like the outcome to be. It truly ripped my heart out when Jason was written off. Then, my heart was healing over how he was brought back . Now, Jason isn’t Jason but Drew. The real Jason returns. Sam is caught between a rock and hard place. You can see how this story could tear at your heartstrings if you’re as passionate about soaps as I am. We must always remember that it’s just a soap and the artists portraying these characters are not them in real life. It’s just a gig. They’re doing their job and I must say, quite well.

What’s new? Isn’t this indicative of the Guza fanbase who TPTB have been courting with their Two Jasons/Two Carlys/and Sonny storyline?

Then we have the Julexis fanbase rooting for the TV poster couple for domestic abuse with opposition from anyone and everyone who has ever watched the show and has a brain.

We have a war between OLTL fans and GH fans that is still ongoing today.

All of these are incited by TPTB and fans need to get smart and stop taking the bait. They love that you are taking so much of your time to make them more buzzworthy on social media, perhaps raising their ratings that way as well.

The actors are caught in the middle and TPTB don’t care. Apparently their fans don’t care either. Then again, these are exactly the type fans TPTB want. As Guza and Phelps said, they trained you.

On the other hand, being someone who is truly appalled by your aforementioned “poster couple,” I sincerely thank you for the characterization you have so charitably afforded those of us who find genuine offense in this relationship! The petty brouhahas kicked up over the defense of this cheap, revolting duo has really been beyond the pale and are guaranteed to continue since the GH showrunners seemingly insist upon putting this unpalatable pairing back into their all-too-predictable trainwreck mode! Right? Anyway, back to the Jason/Drew saga, LOL………Has Jason sought Dr “Andre” for selfish reasons? If Drew’s memories can be ‘reinstated’ , the field would be left wide open– to chase Sam, that is.
In doing so, there would be the chance for Drew to remember another woman in his life ( Kim or someone else?) he loved passionately, and voila’, bye-bye Sam?
I am not as vested in Sam’s relationships as other fans……not a long-time watcher. This story could go either way. I really don’t care. But, gee….poor Billy!!

Carly and Sonny are the very definition of snakes in the grass, no loyalty, no compassion except for Saint Jason. On the flip side, how cute are Billy M. and Oscar together?!

However, when we ‘deface’ appearance, I can understand how that can rub off on the actors.
…… as I said to Timmm, the same goes for the fans—poster against poster—that’s never acceptable.
I don’t get it…are we all to venerate Sonny and Carly? Just because? Nothing against the actors, but if we cannot express an opinion, then what? I am not into the Stepford-wife meme…..nor am I a fan of Big Brother….it’s not 1984….HaHa.

Thank you, Renee…..took the words right out of my mind. Actors, in general are in the public eye….under a constant microscope. I stop short at name calling, not just to the actors, but to the fans as well….this is where the hypocrisy rests….some posters on the GH sites get away wirh horrific name-calling of fellow posters…..those posts should not appear in print. Fans have feelings as much as the actors do….or PEOPLE in higher places….
Steve has impressed me….I have become fond of his personae, as Dylan and Jason. However, he must realize that people DO do this …..some people are very cruel….it’s one thing to stomp on a character….very different to do so on an actor. However, some of these actors/actresses should use a modicum of pudor, in dress, speech, ‘tude ( unless it’s acting) and general appearance, if they do not want to hear negativity…..otherwise they are in the wrong business.
Again, the hypocrisy runs rampant…. it’s okay to call “OTHERS” atrocious names…..as long as they are not from Tinseltown. I I like Steve……but, we must all use a little caution when speaking our minds. I, for one, do not exculpate myself, albeit I do have a civil tongue in my mouth…

Amen, Timmmbo! I think Steve, Billy and Kelly are all hitting it out of the park with their given storyline, plus the sensitive and mature manner in which their characters are handling their gut-wrenching situation as it pertains to their collective “family” also should give the audience much food for thought. All three are acting like adults for the sake of the children and it has been a beautiful thing to behold, as has been GH, which in and of itself is a true miracle! Many of us were convinced such a revival of its fortunes was never to be in the cards, so to once again be able to look forward to each new episode—along with the return of many fan favorites (finally!)—is a real cause for celebration, not condemnation of pet couplings from the past that may or may not come to fruition this time around!

I see the hate in one of the GH groups I am in. The hate is for BM as Drew. They did like BM until SB decided to come back. That’s when the hate started. GH mess up this S/L if they knew SB could return then they should of never recast the part. I accepted BM as Jason to then find out he is Drew. So I can see where the hate coming from on both sides. I don’t like this Twin S/L. Looks like a copy of the Twin S/L from OLTL. (Todd & Victor). GH had to know fans wouldn’t take this well at all. SB left went to Y&R & then decides to come back & we have to welcome him back as Jason. After BM was doing a great job as Jason. Anyone can see why there’s so much hate now.

Love having Steve back and the storyline is riveting. The writers will eventually bring the twins close and it will be epic. As a fan, what have the writers done to Sam? She is NOT this sappy a&(ed wimp they are writing her to be now. Please give her the back bone and toughness the fans all love about her. That’s what I care the most about, not what man she chooses, although I would like to see her with Jason, eventually.

My Grammy use to be a huge fan of GH and I started watching with her about 40years ago… Have I liked every storyline? No! Did I like all the characters? No! We all need to remember that GH is a television show! It is NOT real life! Steve Burton does not work work for Maurice Benhard in the mob! Kelly Monaco is not a CEO of a media company and her “dead” husband didn’t come back from the grave! Please try to remember that. If you don’t like a story line, remind yourself that it will probably change in a few weeks. The ACTORS are just following a SCRIPT that was written by the writers for GH!please be kind to each other, Love each other and please STOP BEING HATEFUL!!!!!!!

Honestly, I would like to see the brothers come together and unite-as friends. I am not a fan of Sam, I never have been, but I am able to separate Sam Morgan from Kelly Monaco. My dislike of the character does not flow into hatred for the actress. Some people are just ignorant and hateful!

Monaco. The only others that have that chemistry are Carly and Sonny.
Great work – GH is rocking with this storyline.
I’m hating what they are doing to the Alexis character – making her a victim of physical abuse. Hook him up with Cassandra…they deserve each other.

It only takes a few and I really feel sorry for the actor’s involved. I will say I don’t like a character and the actor playing them but it is very rare for me. I think it’s just that soaps are on daily and most is due to writing and some the acting.

Seriously—things got so out of hand that it was necessary for the actors to come out and ask people to behave themselves?

Come on, folks! I know people can get very passionate about the soaps, but this kind of thing is wa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y over the top.

Congrats to Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco for stepping up and trying to inject some sanity. (Didn’t Kelly Monaco and Becky Herbst have to do something similar a year or two ago, when Sam and Liz were rivals for thought-he-was-Jason’s affections?)

People need to . . . grow up.

Yes; I believe you’re correct. Kelly and Becky had to address their fans…each side warring with the other. Insanity….

Just an add: Billy Miller also posted to stop the madness. He and Kelly did a cute lil video snippet together to tell fans to back off.

Everyone’s fighting with everyone. There’s not a day that goes by that you don’t read about actors arguing with each other, too. Matt Damon is currently in the hot seat for an interview he gave on the “me too” movement.

I’d say with sarcasm human nature at its finest but we’ve never been that “fine.” People have been fighting and warring, large and small, from the beginning of time. Which is why many of us prefer our pets! ;)

Exactly, Jimmy!!!!!! We do become attached to certain characters, thus we champion them. I love Billy Miller, but I must cofess I did say on a number of occasions, I have a hard time understanding him when he speaks…..same goes for Kelly. Sometimes between the two of them, I have to strain my neck closer to the set to understand their( what seems to sound like) mumbling.
It does not mean I h*te them.
I do not loathe Maurice, either, but Sonny represents the most degenerate worm on earth. I can’t say that??
Yes, for some it is an escape from reality….But, I like my reality…happy with it. I watch soaps because I grew up watching them…..Erasing them from my life would be likened to erasing part of what makes me who/what I am. I know people who ridicule soap fans—I don’t get it….LOL.
Nevertheless, there are those posters who take up residence within the environs of make believe towns of Never-Never-Land because they “have an agenda”, as Shay said.

@Jimh….As always, you’ve provided perspective in your own charming and inimitable fashion! Of course, soaps can offer us refuge from the daily trials and tribulations of life, but most of us have the ability to separate fact from fiction and fantasy from reality once an episode ends….we recognize what’s make-believe and don’t get overly- invested in matters regarding people who don’t actually exist! Just as when we gather here to share and compare our thoughts on the latest happenings in soapville, it’s intended to be a pleasant, momentary break from our own unique human experiences, yet when it’s taken too seriously or becomes an obsession so that one cannot even freely express opinions without fear of serious reprisals from those who vehemently take issue with our thoughts, then what should be a fun and felicitous exercise becomes an unnecessarily unpleasant outing for the majority of posters who comment in good faith and out of true affection for those we’ve come to consider as friends…Oddly, it seems the holiday season brings out the worst of these tendencies for some, even though it only serves to make me appreciate and acknowledge those individuals who make my life nicer all year round—be it in my own personal sphere or here online, which leads me right back to you, Jimmy! You always make the visits to MFSoaps worthwhile and special….and your posts never fail to delight and inspire! I sincerely hope that this Christmas brings you the joy and peace you deserve and that 2018 will prove to be both happy and healthy for you and your loved ones! Oh, and just so you know, I shall be looking forward to another new year chock full of your incomparable “Jimhisms!”

Tell me about it, CeeCee! Like yourself, I totally eschew the social media madness, but just the wholly-unacceptable antics we’ve both experienced here are enough to tell you that some individuals have absolutely no shame or scruples when it comes to the insidious means they will employ to advance their own agendas, and it should never be allowed to go that far. Personally speaking, I’ve too often—and extremely recently—literally had words put in my mouth that I’ve never scripted and been assigned thoughts and emotions which did not emanate from my own heart and mind by certain persons seeking to viciously inflict hurt feelings upon and create discord with other posters who I’ve genuinely come to admire and regard as friends. Whilst one always hopes that most of our regulars here can take such incidents with a grain of salt and simply consider the source, when there is an influx of new contributors, it does make one wonder what they must think of all these offensive goings-on. I just hope they can discern the truth and realize that most of us follow the basic rules of mutual kindness and respect, and that when those are given, they are likewise returned in spades! Which leads me to wish not only you—but the fortunately vast majority of lovely folks who frequent these threads—a Most Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!

I hope you are right in suggesting that most, on these sites, have the ‘vision’ to consider the source. I will not generilize, my Shay….not when we all know from whence the mendacity and constant jabs come….. the many faces of…uhmmm Eve…..who takes liberties by using this venue as a vehicle to vent his/her own issues, posting under different names…both male and female.
Admittedly, it is wrong to ‘cut down’ actors, but I find nothing wrong with discussing the disgusting and untoward behavior of some of the characters. CHARACTER is key-word here.
So, the irony is so thick — the good side of this is, we have a life and nonentities are just that, amica bella….a speck in the universe. I love my soaps, Shay….as much as anyone else, as much as you. Part of my life….I always make room. Michael Fairman facilitaes our coming together…it should be a happy place. ‘Tis unfortunate there is some discord.
I will stick to the storylines, the plot, and my opinions on such. But, how can we be expected to be passive about Sonny’s wrongdoing? The unrealistic turn of some events?…etcetera, etcetera, etcetera
I read Harry’s comment about someone getting sooo way out of line on Twitter? Racism? I cannot tolerate that, and if her account was truncated, then it was the right thing to do. Some people have no filter….I always blame their upbringing….children grow up with distorted ideals and rules set by the adults in ther lives.
I thank God for my parents and grandparents for their open-mindedness—I grew up accepting and tolerating all peoples. I am no better than the next person. I was always taught to be respectful, but to ‘hit’ back when ‘stricken’….stand up for myself, verbally but politely.
What is going on, everywhere, makes me wonder about tomorrow.

So it’s really silly for fans to fight over who gets to be JASON when the actors could care less.

I can tell you if the show is ever canceled I would be sad.

As far as I’m concerned Steve makes GH and Billy is ok but no where near the looks of Steve Burton!! Thank you so much GH for bringing Steve Burton back!!! The ladies love him always!!! But please make sure he stays around many more years this time!! We love you Steve!! Welcome back!!!

Some people need to get a life!!! It is only a soap. I for one am enjoying the return of Steve Burton. Having Billy Miller be Drew gives him a chance to develop his own character. He just never was Jason to me. Kelly and Billy are so much more interesting to watch now that the real Jason has returned

I agree that Billy Miller now has a chance to develop his own character and not be tied to Jason’s history and not be compared to Steve Burton.IMO the character of Drew is like open book because we don’t know much about his past.So the show could reveal anything about Drew’s past that they want and not have to rewrite anything.Plus in a way Drew now has a chance to interact with more characters on the canvas depending on which direction the show takes Drew. For example Drew could get involved in ELQ

I have been a fan of GH for over 20 years and I have loved some story lines and didn’t care for others. When we lost Steve Burton I was hanging on by a thread, Sonny and Carly kept me hanging around. I felt there was no replacing Jason. Then Drew came in the picture and because I had watched him on Y&R and liked him on there I figured OK I can accept this. Meanwhile I watched Steve Burton come and go on Y&R, while referring to him as ex-Jason and then I was upset when he left, I thought to myself he could have stayed at GH. Then I caught him on Ray Donovan, I thought oh my Jason’s back on TV, but I only saw him on the one episode. When they said he was returning I did a dance. I’m super excited he’s back and he is the real Jason, I felt it would be just disrespectful to tell us otherwise. There’s but one situation that’s getting under my skin and it’s that you have Sam, Elizabeth, Alexis who seem to have attitude that he’s back because their lives have been affected and I’m pissed that Sam and Elizabeth two women that have loved and fought over this man don’t now seem to want him around and that pisses me off and I feel this is one of the reasons for the I’ll will towards Drew. I think as fans of Steve Burton we want him to be received like his brother Drew was when they thought he was Jason, that’s all. Whatever you’re going to do next GH I’ll be watching

Anyone that gets that upset over a storyline on a television show really needs to get a life, plain and simple. A perfect example of why I don’t go on Twitter. People think they can say anything they want to other people, and get away with it, because they’re hiding behind their computer or phone screen.

I’ve been a GH viewer for 25+ years, and I’m personally loving the Jason/Drew storyline. I think all the actors involved have been doing an excellent job, Steve Burton, Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco, right on down the line. The story has had a ripple effect in that it’s helping rebuild The Quartermaines with some new additions in Drew and Oscar, which has been a long time coming after that family has been gutted and decimated by previous executive producers and writers over the years. I like Tamara Braun, it’s brought her back to the show.

There’s a lot to like about what’s happening on GH these days. I wish people could just sit back and be entertained, which is what TV shows are supposed to do for us, rather than getting so full of anger and hate that you feel it’s ok to attack your fellow fans, and even the actors playing the characters. That’s wrong on so many levels.

Love how the traditions are being brought back to GH. What’s old is new again can work without writing them completely out of GH which is where it had seemed like it was going for too long a while. I especially liked Wally/Ned singing Silent Night today. And like you said, there is a rebuilding of the Q’s with more to come with Michael and Nelle’s baby. And there are other possibilities from Mary Mae Ward’s family making an appearance to other Q’s coming back home. Wonder if a Q will tell the Christmas story to the kids at the hospital on Christmas Eve? And who will take the place of Edward?

It’s a great story line and a new twist I’ve reality been enjoying it. I’m so sorry to hear that anyone is being mean to any of the actors, period. I would like to compliment everyone for standing for each other. One, they are actors doing their jobs and as for the story line, it’s the most difficult situation that could possibility be imagine. I love the fact the story is coming from a loving and compassionate place for all of the characters as they heal, grow and come together to find away to handle the situations. Everyone anger, violence, and negativity won’t add to anyone or anything in this life. Love is the only way to get though and we should have that for all of the characters and actors.

Nothing new. People on this site make fun of actors looks, age, etc. It’s not just about the characters they play. It’s one thing to criticize a character; another an actor. You can disagree with the actor’s real life views, interviews, etc. It’s quite something else to say he or she looks old, is old, can’t act, etc. But people do. And we’ve seen, those of us who are regulars on this site, that occasionally actors will read these pages. And yet the personal insults toward them fly.

I wonder how fans would feel if the actors were able to see and critique each one of us on our looks, age, dress, etc…

The soap actors are public figures…
ALL. all in public are open for criticism of their looks, Botox and boob jobs..
Talk shows, even TMZ and ALL comment on actors plastic surgery, as do magazines.
Soap actors are no different and are open for public opinions of their looks.

There are soap sites that guard, protect and pamper soap actors, I have never understood that.
In their right they are stars and public figures and they will have opinions of their plastic surgeries, toupees, boob jobs etc up for opinions.

    I worked with a plastic/reconstructive surgeon for near 9yrs..
Every time an actor comes back from vacation I notice immediately work done.
I could write the list, but I didn’t..
One recently went from flat chest to boobs, one 3ys back had boob reduction, and some have had fat transfers some different types of filler. under eyes, lips and cheek implants………………………
2 (women) had under par work done (stiff face) and if asked they could not properly say weather, work, weasel because their upper lips do not naturally move because they are are smi-parilized by too much botox…… prounce weasel , look or hold finger lightly on upper lip, your upper lip whill form a circle, not possible with lip jobs upper lips have little movment.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And– none were ever ‘bashed herein’ …

    rebecca1 replied

I don’t agree, su0000. Just because someone chooses to be an actor doesn’t mean they’r fair game for insults. They’re PEOPLE! And they happen to love acting. So what? That means because they’re on our television we can say they look ugly, fat, old…they can’t act…they’re losing their hair…on and on and on.

You’re not a Trump fan from what I’ve read. I’m sure you’re not thrilled with his personal insults to those he does battle with. (If I’m assuming too much…please correct me. Perhaps you don’t think there’s anything wrong with that type of insulting, infantile, hurtful behavior.) By the same token, that doesn’t give viewers the A-OK to insult another human being because they’re on our screens!

And, I wouldn’t exactly use the TMZ rag as a reference for good behavior. Yeah; they’re a popular show and they cater to the not-greatest of human qualities: judgment, mocking, gossip, insults…all for a laugh and a buck.

Soap sites aren’t “guarding or protecting.” LOL…you think that’s done HERE?

“Soap actors are no different and open for public opinion of their looks?” Are you kidding me with that statement? No; they’re not.

Do you have any idea how many actors have gone off Twitter because they were hurt emotionally by horrid comments.

Here’s a quote from actress Leslie Jones who was insulted and closed her Twitter account for a while:

““I’ve never claim[ed] to be better or special,” she tweeted on July 18. “I just try to do my job as best as I can. Isn’t that any of us y’all. So yeah this hurts me! I’m more human and real than you f*****g think. I work my ass off. I’m not different than any of you who has a dream to do what they love.”

She’s not the only one. I truly can’t believe you think it’s our right to insult others. Compliment? That’s cool. Rip apart? Not so much.

    rebecca1 replied

I think I owe you an apology, Su…I’m actually not sure but I think I misinterpreted what you wrote. I thought you were saying since actors put themselves out there it’s okay to insult them…after reading your comment again and another you wrote on this page I think, as I said, I read you wrong. It is true; I’ve read your comments that you’ve written where you can detect plastic surgery but you’ve never insulted an actor’s looks or disparaged him/her.

The age thing, LOL, well, that’s another story! ;) You do go there, but in a more general way in terms of younger characters, writers, stories, etc. But even with that, seriously, you’ve never aimed a judgment on a character or the actor/actress.

    Apologies…

    Shay replied

@su….I totally concur with your thoughts regarding any person who puts themselves into the public arena for whatever career purposes….if you are in that domain, then you are fair fodder for comment, both good and bad, especially if said individuals go the extra distance to promote themselves and their opinions via social media and particularly in such an environment as the soap world where there is daily exposure to these people and their “unique” characteristics! It’s utterly absurd to suggest that we should not be free to discuss any aspect of such an individual’s personage or persona, given they regularly appear in all their big screen HDTV glory where any and all physicalities are magnified to the point where they simply cannot be ignored! You are also right about the numerous “alterations” so many of the GH-ers have undergone in recent years…most are none too subtle and when they actually affect or impair an actor’s ability to emote, express or deliver dialogue, then that is a performance issue and we should certainly be permitted to address it! Quite frankly, if a person who has been in the business for years cannot withstand such criticisms, then they’ve clearly chosen the wrong field in which to make a living! For them to demand kidglove treatment on soap sites really is beyond entitled behavior! Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

    rose replied

You’re right Rebecca. I could name several actor/characters who have been “critiqued” by some commenters over and over in different “clever” ways. While the actors are only doing their job in inhabiting the role of a character, I think it would be hard to separate their real selves from some of these personal type of comments. And when other commenters support some of these actors/characters, they can also stand the chance of being in the crossfire. But then there seems to be a meanness in real life as well starting from the top to social media trolls. So good for Steve and Kelly. And MF and most commenters for keeping civility, incite, and humor on this page.

And as for who ends up with who, I’m waiting to be surprised. But logically if Sam wants to protect her kids/family, and keep them away from the mob and Sonny she will go with Drew. And luckily she loves him. But then soaps are not always logical so we will see.

You are merely an extension, dear rose? It is one thing to admonish a commenter for speaking out of line, it is completely derogatory when another commenter, with multiple names, bashes the one criticizing an actor. It is done without malice, although words do hurt.
On the other hand, she/he does it with vicious intent.

I would like to know the difference. Calling other commenters crazy, stupid and accusing them of the very thing of which she/he accuses of doing, is as hypocritical as her/his posts.
We cannot speak from both sides of our mouths.

She/he was cautioned by many to stop calling other commenters names. Then, she/he becomes the victim. I have lain back for years. But, when trying to support other commenters whom had been “attacked” by her/him, who are not on the threads any longer because of her/him, I was “attacked” by calling me an imposter. I am not Celia’s grandmother, but according to her/him, anyone who disagrees with you/her/him has nefarious reasons. I noticed on many occasions that Shay is “attacked”, personally, without restraint.

It would please us all, immensely, if it is stopped. Move on. Happy New year.

Hi Francesca…Thanks for replying to this problem. I do stand by what I wrote several days ago. But I do wonder where the he/she’s and non-regulars come from out of the blue.

While you’ve seen Shay attacked, I have also seen the same with Rebecca. It’s not good for either, or anyone else…commenter or actors/characters. It used to be more fun to comment on MF than it is now, depending on the topic…like an Alexis story a few years ago when it really seemed to heat up. Or negative descriptions of actors/characters.

And there is just way too much of this going on in the “real” world. But like you said, words can hurt. You have to be careful about how you impact other people with what you say, or how it’s interpreted before you press submit. Lets all wish everyone a Happy New Year. And like the Jason’s, a new fresh start.

It should never come to this. Yes, viewers are entitled to their opinions and should complain when they don’t like a particular storyline. However, the actors are doing their jobs, reading what’s in the scripts. If a viewer wants to voice concern with a storyline, those comments should be tactfully directed to either the head writers or executive producer.

Admittedly, the vitriol on social media, whether it’s political or otherwise, is out of hand. Soap storylines and foci can be disappointing, and fans naturally have their reactions.

I am no fan of Burton or his characters. He may have a point in asking fans not to spread hate over storylines. However…

Shouldn’t he have expected some backlash?! As I recall, when he left GH, he stated publicly that he was leaving the show to spend time with his family; and before you could say “young and restless,” he was hired on at the other soap. Maybe some fans resent his return as the prodigal son back to the fold at GH, the fans of which he lied to several years ago. And in the process, his return has negated the terrific work performed by Miller who made the role of Jason his own — after some much convoluted writing. Then Burton returns — after exponentially increased convoluted writing — and expects things to go back to the way they were before he left GH the first time. It’s no wonder many fans are upset, even outraged.

I hear you James. But I’m going to give Steve the benefit of the doubt. Life and circumstances can change overnight. Maybe the same happened for Steve. It sure as heck happens on our soaps. And in our own lives as well. He was lucky there was a plan B for him if this was the case. And he seems to be “enjoying” the homecoming. So I like seeing him back at GH with the writers giving him more things to worry about than Sonny and Carly. Like how a tentative relationship is building between him and Jason in their common goal to find out who messed with their memories. Wish he had gone over to the Q’s for Christmas.

@Gentleman James….You have made some very valid points and I commend your bravery for speaking your mind about what is admittedly not a popular subject. I don’t dispute that some of the problems Mr. Burton has experienced since he returned to GH may have been initially of his own making dating back to when he originally departed the show, but as a viewer who has been rather pleased by the turnaround his character’s reappearance has brought to Port Charles, I’m willing to overlook that aspect of the issue. As far as I’m concerned, that was then and this is now…regardless of that one specific matter, it still doesn’t excuse the ridiculous fanwars and online harassment that are currently transpiring!!! GH seriously needed a major infusion of new storylines and emphasis upon its rich history and legacy characters, and Jason Morgan’s re-emergence has accomplished that feat. Whilst I cannot feign total satisfaction with the currrent state of all things Port Charles, I do see an effort to address some of the concerns that we have been repeating over these past few years and there is at least some hope that the future will bring on more of the changes we have requested. (Except, of course, for the de-emphasis of Sonny as the omnipresent force who fuels life as we know it on GH. Alas, that wish seems to be an eternal pipe dream which shall never come to fruition! LOL.) However, the fact remains that for the first time in an absolute age, I can actually bear to watch multiple entire episodes of this soap, so especially since it’s the holiday season, I’m not about to look a gift horse in the mouth! Having said that, I also extend greetings to you and yours for a Most Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hello Shay!

Thank you for your reply! As always, you make some great, thoughtful points! I always enjoy reading your posts as well. If I visited more frequently, I could see more of them…

To the point at hand, I actually liked the character of Jason before the accident, as in the triangle involving Karen and Jagger. I have not liked the character since the unrelenting tie-in with Sonny. I don’t like Sonny, the Mob storyline, or anything at all to do with Sonny. As I have expressed — more than once :) — GH has been ruined by the overemphasis on Sonny, which, as we know, has transpired for 2+ decades… Maybe if Sonny were more of a peripheral character, my view would be different.

I am with you on the need for more civility on social media…

Finally, I apologize for the shorter reply I gave to you last time. I was using my phone at the time, and it takes me awhile to key things in, so I kept it short. But I was sorry and empathetic to hear about your bouts with discrimination. We, as a society, have to do a better job of eradicating bullying, discrimination, etc….

Shay, I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year!

    Shay replied

@James……..You never need apologize for not providing a “rapid response!” We all have “lives” and they do take precedence, regardless of our soft spot in them for soaps, and yes, the people here! I particularly understand the phone thing…I often read posts, but seldom reply on mine, unless with the briefest of remarks…even composing on an iPad is not my favorite thing, although my new keyboard case is making me much less reticent on that front…in fact, I’m using it right now! At any rate, no explanation for your regard—or lack thereof—pertaining to Sonny is required. It would seem that most of us feel much the same…and his initial appearance on GH actually coincided with the first time I made my daily visits to Port Charles scarce…the only real interests I had in the show during that era were Jason and the original AJ…I seldom tuned in after Sean Kanan left—-except for when the ‘80’s legacy characters dropped into town. Let’s just say none of the ‘90’s crowd really impressed me and that sentiment remains today——especially as far as Sonny and Carly are concerned!!!! As for my “experience” which I previously mentioned, I am not one prone to oversharing, but I felt that given this is something much more prevalent than when I encountered it a few decades ago, it was worth bringing up. It seems to me the current perception is that any “ism” is a one-way street and only goes in a single direction, and having lived though it, I know that is simply not true…and it’s wrong no matter who is on the receiving end for whatever reason!!!!! Enough said…Hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and 2018! Later, “Gentleman James!”

    Hi Jamesj75

Hope you had a fun New Year’s Eve! Music is my thing and I heard quite a bit of it from rock to rockabilly to jazz. So fun!

Alak and alas I must disagree with you regarding Steve Burton. I don’t think it’s a viewers right to know why an actor is leaving or returning; merely a courtesy when they tell us. Of course it’s upsetting when someone leaves a show abruptly, for me it can be a show I’ve watched primetime for one season but have become engrossed, or a longstanding soap where these characters take on a life of their own and we rely on them to be there. Just like people that we love in real life. But, as we know, people leave. Sometimes by their own volition, other times they’re taken away. Sad but that old cliche, “nothing last forever” or “nothing stays the same” is true.

For people to be angry, literally angry and throw venom at an actor because he “lied” he “misled” he “left” is kinda presumptuous and way over the top. If any actor wants to leave, whether it be because he/she is bored with the role after many years and is looking for other work, wants to relocate, be with family, is offered a new gig…whatever…it’s none of our business. It his/her business. Literally. As for “lying.” I don’t think that’s what Burton did. He was moving to Nashville, he couldn’t get the deal he wanted from GH which would allow him more family time and so he moved on. Three months later, after not working and only having family time, according to something I’d read he felt the desire to work again and Y&R offered him a role.

When an actor that has left returns, instead of anger or resentment I’m just happy (if I liked the actor/character). As far as him replacing Billy Miller or taking over his old role, again, to me (and this is just my opinion) I don’t feel he “took” anything away from Billy. They’re actors. Scripts change, characters evolve, characters are killed off, couples are torn apart, etc. Not sure if Billy was upset that he would be now thrust into another orb, but it seems that as long as his job security is intact he might welcome the challenge and the evolution of his character. In reality, nothing has changed. He’s still a Quartermaine, he’s still the father of Scout, the people he thought were his family is still his family and he found out who his “true” friends are. As a bonus, he wanted to extricate himself from Sonny and the business before this truth came out. Now, he doesn’t have to come running every time Sonny’s in trouble…IF they can wipe that loyalty out of his memory or he can combat it.

In closing, dear sir, :) I just think fan wrath is kinda nutso.

Great to hear from you, Rebecca! When I read your reply in my e-mail, I had no idea it was you! I’m slipping, I guess…

As always, you make some great, logical points, but we do disagree on the topic at hand, which is fine. So happy we agree on politics, among other issues that come up here! :) As you know, I always respect and enjoy reading your views, I enjoy the repartee we have, and I look forward to more!

From one music fan to another, I also wish you a wonderful and Happy New Year! :)

LOL…not to worry, James. How can you expect to know who’s who without a name attached in your personal email. I wouldn’t know who was writing to me either; even those I regularly exchange comments with.

So am I to understand that if I get a full-time gig on GH…and you become very enamored with me/my character…and I change my mind and decide to become a pastry chef…and then Marisa Tomei takes my role…and then I change my mind and return to the role three months later…you’d be pissed at me!!!!!???

    Sigh. :)

I think the bashing from fans is a reflection of what the show is putting out, bad vibes. Why does it seem like Sam has no feelings and is being almost intentionally hurtful to the ex love of her life. Why is Drew whining all the time and expecting everyone to feel sorry for him (a NAVY SEAL, holds a lot of weight with service man, perhaps some who return to broken homes after dedicated years of their lives) when he cannot do the same in return. Why is Jason accepting, the loss of everything and just quietly being thrown under the bus. I know he acts the part, but IS he a robot?

The story was written to “play with fans emotions” and perhaps the actors are portraying that too well, because the public is feeling the tension. Disheartenment and despair are not things you want to put out during the holidays. Right? Isn’t that what you are asking of your fans, to be merry and better than that. To project love not hate. Ask yourselves…how can we expect others to be above and beyond reproach when it is we, who are manipulating their view of the world. Just food for thought. Perhaps GH writers should take this to heart and consider how their characters influence people’s emotions. Take to heart the history of beloved characters and how turning them inside out may really hit dedicated fans who identify or just plain live for GH. I mean, you want the fans to love your show, love your characters. Well, write it as if they do and take fan feelings into consideration, especially when you get such a notable response. In my opinion, TV, Movies, the news, pretty much all has been bleak of late, the last thing we need is more of the same from our soaps. Like Days of our Lives, JJ Suicide attempt on the holidays. Its disheartening. I understand fans can’t always have what they want, but it seems that this show is setting up fans they know to be diehard and vocal to feel heartbreak over and over by offering hope, snatching it back, etc. To the writers and producer, if you want it to end, then end it, or continue to enjoy the exposure it brings you, but don’t be hypocrits. To the actor/ess, by no means do I support bashing or hating others and for the most part, I think such bashing is completely based on the character being portraying, but…that’s the price of being good at your job, I guess. So, deal with it or refuse to play the part. I understand the strong response from fans passionate about the show. I can only assume the producers, writers, and actors do as well. I decided to take the unpopular view and express my opinion in this forum, because like others, I am feeling all the negativity surrounding this show. I am feeling betrayed. I am feeling disgust. I am feeling unheard, and frankly, I’m so sick of it, I don’t even want to watch anymore. But…what really nips my buns is the hypocrisy or ignorance of the people pulling the strings. You say its just a story. I say its a ranting fan. You say people should be better, I say, I agree. You say what you want through your medium (your show), well expect fans (coming from all walks of life) to do the same via the only medium they have to communicate their feelings.

I agree that fans should sit back and enjoy the ride. I’ve been watching GH since the late 80′s and this current Jason/Sam/Drew triangle is one of the most compelling I’ve seen.

It’s a great storyline, very reminiscent of the John Black/Marlena/Roman Brady triangle on Days from all those years ago (for old school fans like me!). The storyline works really well because you truly feel for everyone involved. There’s no villain here, just three people trying to find their way through a challenging situation.

Admittedly, I’m a HUGE Kelly Monaco fan and she was the primary reason I stuck with GH through some tough times a few years ago. I’m very glad she’s getting more screen time! The show’s been getting better the last few years but Steve’s return has really helped. For the first time in a very long time, I’m actually looking forward to the next episode instead of watching out of habit.

Kudos to all the actors involved! While I’ll always be a Jasam fan and want to see them together in the end, I’m going to enjoy the ride while it lasts! Those longing stares on the docks and their desire to reunite are what makes us want to tune in! :) So everyone relax and enjoy the show! It’s the best it’s been in a really long time!!

This doesn’t surprise me. There are some weirdos out there who aren’t aware that GH and other soaps and shows aren’t really real, and incite ‘wars’ because they are sad, devisive, and can’t decipher the difference between fact and fiction and this fills up what should be their lives. This latest ‘war’ reminds me of the same type of people who were caught up in between Sam and Liz, when there was only one Jason around. There was someone who verbally attacked me on Youtube in all caps like they were yelling, because I felt that Liz always pays immediately for every bad choice she makes and that tptb at one point seemed to go out of their way to ignore previous transgressions by Sam, like kidnapping, to the point of sweeping it under the rug like it never existed. At one point, Liz was thrown under the bus and labeled as a ‘bad girl’ to help solidify and give street cred to the newly burgeoning couple of Sam and the new Jason (who’s now Drew.) I was heated and knew that there was a better way to support a new couple than to reduce a nuanced, three dimensional legacy character who has grown over the years into a hysterical, jealous, manipulative and desperate obstacle. She no longer had hopes and dreams, just wanted Jason no matter how she had to get him, and so her character was regressed in my opinion to a way she hadn’t been in years to perpetuate the ‘goodness’ and ‘destiny’ of this couple, when none of that was necessary. It was an insult to everyone involved, and I even think that almost caused Becky to leave at one point, even if it was indirectly, the direction her character was going (and also how they revived Liz’s rape storyline just to show how Franco feels, that’s another story.)

I expressed these opinions at the end of a clip of an episode on Youtube. This woman who loves Sam took it personally and saw Sam, as an angelic being who did no wrong, and started insulting me in ways that had nothing to do with my opinion on characters on a soap and how they were being written. I eventually told her whether she was aware of it or not that my opinion is just that and that she was responding like Sam was her personal friend and ready to fight me on the streets. I told her to get all the help that I knew she desperately needed because it was made clear in caps she needed it, and that the show was fictional to my knowledge. That’s when I was made aware that people were fighting on line and insulting the actresses, and that is going too damn far! Plus many were too limited to even conceive that one doesn’t have to dislike Sam to like Liz and vice versa. I hated some stories but don’t hate either one because both have strong qualities and a mutual respect for each other now, so why can’t we? I applaud Steve Burton for asking some of these weirdos to come back to earth.

Excellent post. I was attacked her a few years back because I liked the story where Nina went psycho and kidnapped Ava. I thought it was great acting and edge-of-your-seat soapy drama and crazy like Kathy Bates in MISERY. Different premise but still a loon kidnapping…

I expressed it was difficult to watch…the acting was so good in my opinion and the subject matter very upsetting, yet at the same time I thought it was incredibly executed and exemplified the lengths Nina would go to and how deeply troubled she was…

Anyway, poster which shant be mentioned accused me of “liking to see babies harmed”…asked if I enjoyed that..and basically attacked my integrity. It went on from there…I said at the time her implications were insulting and that it was a fictional story…and while it was difficult I also thought it intense and compelling drama. Like you, my opiniion. I”m sure some agreed and others were completely horrified. Still, accusing me of enjoying harm to babies? Because I thought a storyline was intense and gripping (with all the psychological ramifications, causes behind the act…)

As for insulting the actresses…NOT just the character, it goes on here, as well. Just by a few but a few too many.

For 75 years, I have watched TV soaps and listened to them on the radio, before that, when they were on 15 min. each, all day. I can not, for the life of me, understand those, that do not know ” real from reel”. Is it just plain ignorance, to put it bluntly? Maybe, we are making more out of it, than what it actually is. I say, if the shoe fits, etc., etc. I am too old to mince words, nor do I have the time to anyalize their problem. As another poster said, you can’t fix stupid!

I never liked Steve Burton but I wouldn’t take my anger about how the writers through Billy Miller under the bus out on him…. just the writers…. I never liked the character Jason when Steve Burton played him he was such a dull person…. like because he is a hit man that somehow made him interesting.NOT!!!! I like the Billy Miller for portrayal of Jason because he was so down-to-earth and it just a regular guy didn’t want to kill people…. just wanted to love Sam & be a family man…. and then the characters of Carly and Sonny are just like all enthralled with Jason again disgusting….
