In a fun new interview feature out today in this week’s Soapgeist column at TV Guide Canada, Nelson Branco caught up with three of the hottest stars of General Hospital, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) and Ronnie Marmo (Ronnie). The trio were in Toronto over the weekend to help raise funds and awareness for The Children’s Wish Foundation Benefit, at the Brunch n’Ball with the Falconeri’s. They spent time talking with Branco about current story, their cast mates, and each other! Here is what they had to say about Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo’s return vs. James Franco’s guest stints, Chad Duell replacing Drew Garrett, and Olivia’s lovelife!
LoCicero on Brenda’s return to PC: “I’ve watched the show for so long that I know whenever she comes back, it’s a big deal. It’s not hard to accept that she’ll be the focus of the show for a while. Vanessa’s a proven commodity. I think when Brenda comes back to Port Charles the story momentum will pick up again. People are dying to see her and Maurice [Benard].”
Marmo on the Marcil effect: “It’s pretty exciting to experience all of this Brenda stuff because she was one of my only friends making a living at acting. I was in New Jersey waiting tables, so I always admired her for her success. I only watched GH back then when Vanessa would call me to check out some amazing work she’s done. So it’s amazing that she’s here now because she made me believe I could do it, too. For me, it’s kind of come full circle. As for Franco, I’m one of the only people who loved that he came on because his character gave me a back story and really fleshed out Ronnie. However, I did see the momentum stall after Franco came back.”
Zamprogna on Franco Vs. Marcil effect: “With Franco, he’s not a proven soap commodity. He’s been on twice, and both times his appearances didn’t affect the ratings. Most people want us to keep the story momentum up.”
The trio moved on to talking about Chad Duell vs. Drew Garrett as Michael Corinthos, and the dark secret the Michael harbors from his prison sentence that has yet to be revealed!
Zamprogna on when the Michael prison reveal happens: “It’ll be great. As an actor, what I struggle with is that Dante should take a huge part of the responsibility of what happened to Michael but he’s no more responsible than Sonny, Carly and Jason for setting this whole thing in motion. But I think Dante will be devastated to find out what happened because Dante does love Michael like a blood brother since day one. When Drew Garrett was playing Michael, you didn’t see his Michael give a lot back to Dante. But you see Chad Duell’s Michael giving something back to Dante because of what he’s experienced in prison. He has done a great job. Chad’s not as hard as Drew. Drew was a lot more volatile as Michael. Drew brought more of a violent element to Michael. Drew’s Michael always seemed like he could snap at any moment — which I really liked, but Chad’s Michael is more introverted.”
Marmo on Duell vs. Garrett: “I’m more attracted to Chad’s Michael because it’s more interesting to see this kid tortured that he may become like his father and not make it look easy for him to go out and kill like Drew’s Michael.”
Then the conversation turned to, if Jax could be a potential real-suitor for Olivia!
Lisa LoCicero responded to a Liv/Jax pairing: “I don’t think they’re headed in that direction. And that would definitely put a wedge between Olivia and Carly that they could never recover from. I think it would be beneath Olivia’s moral stance to get involved with her best friend’s husband. I think we’re going to see more stuff between Steven and Olivia. I think they want to see Scott Reeves jump off with a lady soon. I think there will be a triangle involving Steven, Olivia and Johnny.”
