I’m glad it’s Chandler even with that messy way he left. I was too used to him and couldn’t get on board with the recast.

The recast was just one of the worst recasts in daytime history, IMO.

I liked Guy Wilson in the role of Will Horton. An actor can only do so much with bad scripts.

Jenny replied

Not even close to the worst recast in daytime history pal! Not even close!! Lol. Taylor Miller as Sally Frame!! That was bad!!

Steve replied

Bad recasts, we can go on for hours. Guy was certainly better than:
Jamie Luner (Liza) AMC
Nicholas Walker (Max) OLTL
Jennifer Bransford (Carly) GH
and those are just my ABC examples.

seanny replied

I would leave Jennifer Bransford off your bad recast list. She only in the role for 3 weeks which is not enough time to get acclimated to a new job which you are immediately replacing a popular actress. I agree with your choices. They are all good actors not vast in the right roles.

dmr replied

Steve, you are right. I never quite “got” the Jaime Luner recast as Liza, and Jennifer Bransford as Carly, was down right, God awful!

Jenny replied

Bransford was there at least 3 months. Not a bad actress….but totally wrong for the role. And that no talent bubble head they recast Belle with on Days in 2004 for a brief time before theybstruck gold with Martha Madison. It was like she wandered in off the street and got hired. And yes….Luner was no Liza!! Talking bad recasts is fun!!

Steve replied

@ seanny
You can replace Bransford with Jed Allan (Edward #3) if you prefer.

Jenny replied

Hey Guy! Just a shout out. I much preferred your portrayal of Will! I liked Chandler too! I just think you were more like a Lucas and Sami offbreed!

He never died…off camera they found he was still breathing but in a coma…funeral was fake to protect him from the killer…only Sami knew and kept it a secret to protect her son…Will will awaken from his coma and rush to Salem just as Sonny and Paul are about to wed!!!

My thoughts exactly ! makes 100% sense and I bet that’s how it will be explained. Sami Definitely was not as crazy emotional for a mother who’s son was murdered when she came back. Can’t wait for both to return !!

Jim Larson replied

You should write for this show…predictable though it is – and to be honest, it kind of annoys me that they kill off a character in front of our eyes, he is strangled, a funeral is held, and then months later, or however long it has been, lo and behold he is back – uh, what happened with the original actor and his “schooling”?
To me, and all right, this is only my opinion, it’s insulting to the viewer’s intelligence how many times we are supposed to understand that guess what he didn’t die after all – it’s ridiculous — or, I have seen far too many soaps.

ChandlerFan replied

It also was implausible that Sami would leave her other children in California, under someone else’s care, when she had just “lost” a child.
Likewise, it defies belief that Will’s brother and sisters would not be present at his funeral, if it were a “real” funeral. He was supposed to have been the best big brother that anyone could ever wish for.
By the way, THAT’S the version of Will that I’d like to see them bring back — the smiling, good-natured Will. I don’t blame Guy Wilson for not playing Will as a happy-go-lucky bloke, as that is not what was written for him to portray.

7. Michael says:

You know, I may not have been the biggest fan of Guy’s version of Will, but the actor has always been thoughtful and a class act, and sincerely wanted to do justice to the character of Will.. Wish him the best.

Guy Wilson is a class act, despite the constant hate and bullying his received from viewers. Class act of the highest degree. #RESPECT

It was so disgustingly cruel what was hurled at Guy Wilson. Or any other per-
former for that matter. They try so hard, work under extremely difficult situations, and as happens way too often with recasts, not given near enough credit for what they do right. He was never given a chance, and was thrown into a heavy
storyline (BIG mistake!) right away. I can only hope we will see Guy on another show very soon, he talent is not to be denied.

That’s an incredibly generous and yes, classy, response from someone who, I think, did his best to fill some very big shoes and probably deserved more of a chance than some viewers gave him. And I do agree with him: Will is iconic and important—for a lot of reasons. Whatever Carlivati has in mind to explain Will’s “death,” he’s smart to be thinking about how to rectify one of the biggest mistakes of previous regimes.

Some of the personal attacks Guy Wilson had to endure during his run as Will were downright disgraceful. Bravo to him for showing his true colors as an upstanding human being and a class act.

I much preferred GW’s version of Will. CM’s whining, crying and smirking in every scene really annoyed me. And he was visibly uncomfortable in romantic/kissing scenes. Tho’ I enjoyed the coming out SL & thought he was great in that.

As for Ron…I loved his stuff on OLTL, but NOT a fan of GH. And I’m not a fan of resurrection SL’s (tho’ I’ll take this one because, as Guy said, Will is an important iconic and yes even transcendent character; his murder was a travesty that needs to be corrected. The actor playing the role is ultimately irrelevant (actually, I would have preferred another recast, TBH).

My concern is that Ron will simply regurgitate one of his old SL’s, just change the names & push replay. BORING. And I’m waiting to see if CM just phones it in (as he did many times on his last run) collects his paycheck & goes home. Most importantly, there’s the hatchet job they’ve done to the WilSon story and recently destroying the Sonny character (Gangsta Sonny is on my last nerve) to the point that he’s unrecognizable as the character we loved. Ron will need to be a miracle worker to fix this mess.

Guy’s Will was a perfect blend of his parents’ sass, gay preening and panicking, manipulating and lying. Besides…this character was strangled, murdered, tossed in a garbage bag…and disposed of. The gay guy I liked was that hotel clerk Derrick! He was cool! He would turn on a dime if it helped him! He totajly would have found an empty room for him and Nicole at the Salem Inn. Days could have a ratings bonanza by featuring the first openly bisexual male on daytime!!
