As HLN is  in preparations to bring you the exciting 39th Annual Daytime Emmys on June 23rd, some changes are already being implemented.  One of those is the presentation of the final award of the evening, which up till now has been the Outstanding Drama Series award given out to the soaps.

However this year, HLN has announced via its Twitter page,  that the final award of the evening will be for the Outstanding Morning Show which includes nominees such as The Today Show and Good Morning America.

HLN tweeted: “For the first time, the Daytime Emmy award for best morning show will be the final award of the night. Will it be Today Show or GMA?”

Now while soap fans may immediately want to jump and feel this could be a slight to soaps, there is a bright side!  The Daytime Drama Series category won’t be cut off at the end of the program, as has happened many times over,  if the live show should be running late!  NATAS and HLN have already let it be known that their goal is to present as many categories as they can in all fields of daytime programming.

So how do you feel about the change? Are you cool with Outstanding Drama Series being handed out inside the broadcast? Or, do you feel it should be designated for the final award of the evening, without question?  Let us know!

While I am so very grateful to HLN for broadcasting the Daytime Emmys, I am somewhat disenchanted that “Outstanding Drama Series” will not be the final award given, because to me this is yet another sign that tptb feel other programming, such as morning television, is more important than the soap genre. On a positive note, at least we will be able to see the broadcast, so that positive far surpasses the negative mentioned above, and I am sure HLN will handle each award with the dignity and time they deserve, unlike the fiasco broadcast last year.

I’m just happy that HLN is broadcasting the show, and we will be able to watch it. I’m also happy that it seems like this year will be a return to more of a traditional Emmy Awards show, not a nauseating Las Vegas infomercial. What order they choose to present the awards doesn’t matter to me. I’ll be watching for what I hope will be a big GH night!

Great idea! Let them cut off the Outstanding Morning Show category at the end. All of us here care more about soaps. I just wish OLTL was in the running for the Outstanding Drama Series.

I’m just grateful they are being televised. I’m rooting for OLTL to win in every category with a nomination. But especially Erika Slezak as Lead Actress.

Have no Idea why they would do this, I really don’t care I am interested in the soaps I could care less who wins for any of the talk shows because I am not sucked in by that kind of programing, Next year there may only be 4 soaps left even though things are not looking good for days and general hospital, Once the soaps are gone, Seriously who is going to tune in to see who has the best talk show? I’m Not that’s for sure. Let them do the soaps early on then we know right off the bat who wins, at least we get to watch it and I am hearing they will show some respect for One life to live and All my children we all know those shows deserve it. Still can’t understand how One life to live was left out of the best drama series and best writing, That makes no sense at all.

glad HLN is airing the show and I will watch. At least it won’t be an endless commercial for the Vegas Venue like the last few years. As far as best news/talk show getting the final award…stupid. Who watches the daytime Emmys to see that? Not me. I couldn’t care less and will probably change the channel once the soap awards have all been given out.
