18 April 18th, 2011 Hoover decides to pull Ads off of ABC due to OLTL & AMC Axing!

Many fans are grinning ear to ear this afternoon with the announcement on the Hoover facebook page that the vacuum cleaner giant is pulling their advertisements from the ABC line-up effective April 22nd due to the cancellation of One Life to Live and All My Children! Brian Kirkendall, Vice President of Marketing for Hoover posted that his wife and mother, and co-workers are avid OLTL and AMC viewers, and the news of the cancellations disappointed them. Hoover has thus decided to discontinue their advertising on ABC as of April 22nd, maybe sooner!

Here is what the entire facebook post said from Kirkendall: “To all the loyal ABC soap fans, I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are. In fact, we will discontinue our advertising with ABC this Friday, 4/22. We’re making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner. Because we feel that’s not enough, we also want to help get your voice heard with ABC. So, we’ve set up a special email address. SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, to help pull together the mass emotional outpouring of support for our beloved ABC soaps and get it to our contacts at ABC. Please, send your emails to us at SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, and we’ll get every, single last one of them to ABC. We’re 150% committed to doing what matters most to you – so if there’s anything else we can do to help or you have any ideas, please email this address, and we will respond to you personally. Thank you for standing up for what matters to you! We need more of that in this world.”

So how about that one soapers?  Standing up for Soaps by pulling out advertising!  It’s an interesting concept considering the big thing on the networks execs minds is always the advertising dollar for their programming slots.

If more advertisers would take the same stand they could go to another network with all the advertisers needed to sell OLTL and keep it going! They could even start their own network!

I applaud your stance and courage in pulling your ads from ABC due to the cancellation of AMC and OLTL. This must be a first in marketing and is simply brilliant. Most don’t understand that the advertisers are the people where appeals must be made. I hit the demographic they so terribly desire to reach and vow to you that any product I need that Hoover makes will be the only brand I consider when making a purchase. KUDOS TO YOU! Why doesn’t someone put Brian Fronz out of a job. The money he makes as an individual could probably pay many salaries for the crew it takes to run these shows. He has demonstrated that he has no understanding of the medium and is not qualified to be in his position, but hey, McDonalds is hiring!

After reading another discussion board re: companies pulling advertising on ABC due to the cancellation of One Life To Live and All My Children. I applaud Hoover for the action that they have taken in response to their customers complaints about the cancellations and pulled their advertisements from ABC. I will be a loyal customer of Hoover products and will be making it a point to purchase Hoover products in the future. I have written to ABC and informed them that I will NOT be watching any shows on ABC after the cancellations of these soaps nor will I be purchasing ANY products that are advertised on ABC in the future. I hope that other companies take the same action as Hoover. Disney/ABC obviously does not care about their viewers, but I am positive that they would care about losing profit from their advertisers. I have been a faithful purchaser of many of ABC advertisers’ products over the years and I hope that I can continue to be that same loyal customer in the future.
I will be sending letters/emails similar to this one to each and every ABC advertiser and I hope everyone else does the same.
