28 September 8th, 2015 How Playing Billie Reed On Days of our Lives Left Lisa Rinna Crying In A Bathtbub!

Anyone who says performing in soap operas is a piece cake, and is less than any other forms of entertainment genres, think again, and again, and again!

Further proof comes from Lisa Rinna’s appearance in a Oprah: Where Are They Now — Extra.

In her segment, Rinna discusses her time playing Billie Reed, who battled drug addiction, her abusive father, a love story and triangle with Bo Brady and getting shot on NBC’s Days of our Lives back in the 90′s.

Rinna related that the pace, and the amount of dialogue, and the intense stories led her at night to crying alone in her bathtub!

Lisa stated: “I would come home and I would get in the bathtub and I would cry. I would have a really good cry. It was all-consuming.”   She also added:  “You had to learn so fast.  It was sink or swim.  It’s some of the hardest work you’ll ever have to do.”

But Lisa, who now is her own brand, says that her soap opera experience: “It prepared me for anything else. I really am grateful for that.”

So, what do you think about Lisa’s comments?  Remember the days of Billie Reed when she first appeared on DAYS? Do you think the entertainment industry still has no concept of how hard soap stars work to do so many scenes in one day and still come out with solid performances?  Share your thoughts below!

I had three lines in my second grade play and i refused to say ‘I will take care of the dishes’—i felt that line belonged to a girl so it was rewritten for me! So i know some dialogue can even be difficult to say even if its 3 short lines and you dont like one of them(i was an overwhelmed sexist 8 year old male diva who thought he was the star)…that was the 60s and we didnt have all that politically correct nonsense like we have today…lol

The artical brought back fond memories of doing school plays and trying to remember lines in a short time ect., ect., but of course thats nothing compared to the toughness of soap acting…there are far brighter stars(and harder working) in the daytime than in big Hollywood movies!!!

I really enjoyed your anecdote, Jimh. And I am reminded of my first time performing in front of an audience: I was in the 4th grade doing a puppet show with another student. I ad-libbed a humorous line and got my first laugh from an audience! It was addictive, and so began my sense of humor, to this day always wanting to make people laugh…

And because of my love of humor, I wish soaps used it more often. Then perhaps actors, such as Lisa Rinna, wouldn’t be reduced to crying in the tub. I only hope she had a rubber ducky to console her…

I would love more humor in our soaps too…too much gloom and doom…Britains Coranation Street always has humor in their soap mixed in with great character driven realistic drama that gets a chuckle out of me and makes me feel good by shows end-thats good soap writing…also the dead stay dead and they dont rapidly age their children—its more normal…i watched Days with Hope talking to little Ciara—loved that scene but hated knowing the talented child actress will soon be replaced and Ciara will suddenly become a teenager…sigh!!!

I have loved Lisa Rinna since the mid 90s…on DAYS and then I followed her to Melrose Place. The botched returns of Billie have been the writers fault each time bc they refuse to have her character move on from Bo. Billie/Bo/Hope was over done years ago. Just wish they could write for the character and give her a viable love interest!! Have her comeback and takeover Countess W, with Chelsea in tow!!!!

JIMH, I love your thinking!! Peter Blake and Billie would be amazing!!!! I wish they would recast or bring back Jason Brooks!! Surely the drama of the 90s with Missy Reeves is long buried!!!!

    Ces replied

Ha, Richard, I don’t think Scott would let Missy work with Jason again but I loved Mr. Brooks as Peter Blake!!

Yep, JimH, Billie with RKK’s Bo were fun!!! Funny, then RKK was no Bueno with Hope, hence the ol boot for the guy.

Good memories of when I liked the show.

Once they kill Bo off, that might happen!

It’s tempting to say that I had the same reaction to her portrayal of Billie Reed. Having said that, I have seen some of the finest and most memorable acting on daytime dramas that I have seen in ANY genre.

Oh my gah, the courtroom scene…when she revealed herself on the stand!? That was amazing acting. Totally blew me away. Gives me chills even now to think about it. Why was her return so crappy? A real shame.

I am not in the entertainment industry and have never set foot on a soap opera set. (Would like to if I could visit Salem at Days of our lives!) So how would I know how hard it is to work as an actor on a soap? People who work in the entertainment industry but have never worked on a soap opera may not know much more than I do about working on a soap! I think it is probably one of those things that you have to experience to really know.

I really respect someone when they pay homage to their soap roots once they’ve found success in other mediums. Julianne Moore is another one who comes to mind.

Soap actors don’t get the credit they deserve. “Movie stars” who have never worked in other mediums like soaps could never handle the amount of dialogue a soap star has to day in and day out.

I never understood why the entertainment industry looks down on soaps. It is well-known that you must have a great work ethic to survive in this genre. I would think that having a long-standing gig would be a dream for most actors. Anyway, I liked Lisa Rinna on Days, Melrose Place, Veronica Mars and pretty much anything I’ve seen her in. She and Eileen Davidson got me watching RHOBH, which has been pretty entertaining.
