174 January 20th, 2012 UPDATED: How is your third week without One Life to Live?

Courtesy/ABC

UPDATED:  So many have posted comments since we originally posted this two weeks ago and are still reeling from the loss of their favorite soap.

Back on January 16th millions of soap fans for the first time in four decades could not sit down at 1 or 2 in the afternoon to watch One Life to Live.  As well, soap fans who would watch the new episodes at night on SOAPnet, could no longer do so, with their new realigned programming lineup sans One Life. And of course, still others might TIVO the show or would watch online at ABC.com.  One Life could no longer be  must-see appointment television having been canceled by the network for its replacement, The Revolution.

So, how are you coping this week without your favorite show? Your extended fictional friends and family? Do you find yourself craving the show, so you want to watch old clips on YouTube?  Did you watch the final week’s episodes again? Did you find yourself reaching out to other One Life fans to share in the loss?  Or, are you simply walking around lost and feeling depressed over it?

On-Air On-Soaps wants to hear from you and how you are coping or dealing with the first three weeks without One Life to Live.  We are sure there are at least 2.8 million fans or more out there feeling the same way!

This was a horrible week – I did not know what to do with myself without One Life to Live – and everything seemed to go wrong that could – I really need for this show to come back so I can have a sense of normalcy. In a means to cope, I read all of your final interviews and watched your videos so I could still feel connected to some degree. I still need to know how this Victor thing plays out! Not ready to say good bye! UGHHH!

Agree-I am still so furious over all this. I cannot even stand GH-first, because it is just SO BAD right now, and second because it forces me to watch ABC & be subjected to the HIDEOUS promos for the HIDEOUS crap that ABC is so in love with. I hope I can watch my dvrs of the old OLTLS that are running on Soapnet without the same promos!

Okay, in all seriously (actually I was sort of serious there) there is a void in my television viewing that leaves me bitter, confused and heartbroken all at the same time. Nothing can replace the familial-feel of One Life To Live. I’m trying my best to watch General Hospital, but it’s hard to get into the mob-centered stories (reason I stopped watching years ago) and connect with characters I once cherished…wait, Robin is leaving GH soon right? Oh boy…

I wish none of this had to happen.

There was definitely a feeling of sadness and frustration. I can’t figure out the rationale of cancelling any soaps when there are so many channels dedicated to specific interests like golf, history etc. Leave us our soaps! This is an art form; it truly is. I know it’s been said many times but there is always an audience for a well told story.

I try to follow many soaps in one form or another through my life. OLTL was prominent in our home but I was an ATWT guy, too. When ATWT fell, I was comforted I could return to Llanview full time, so rich its character and story canvas. I liked AMC, too, and thought it odd in the days following its finale, but then there was Propsect Park hope. Now there is not. And… OLTL meant the end of New York-based soap production and say what you will, there is something so rich and wonderful and honest about that studio tradition and actors schooled in theatre. Like so many things today — and this make me sound aged beyond my youthful 48 years — corporate entertainment giants market, grind, and shine whatever jewels they have into dust. There is not so much to the jewel. I lament the loss of daytime drama: the ongoing stories, legacy chatacters, the announcers’ voices! OLTL had one long life and for that, I am forever appreciative.

I have tried to focus on Days and GH but there is little incentive. I will keep trying especially with Days. At least Will and EJ are keeping it interesting and I am hoping for some EJ an Sami scenes in February.

ABC failed us and failed their employees. Here’s to all the people they have put out of work at OLTL and AMC in the past 6 months.

I’m almost 43 & can’t remember not watching. I grew up watching with my mom & share it now with my own 4 children. It has been a part of my life, a tradition, a friend, an escape. It was fun & entertaining! Now we are blanketed with a landscape of mediocre television that greedy men & women say we want. Well, I prefer the fictional town of Llandview, Nora, Viki, Dorian, Bo, Clint and all the wonderful characters in ths great town! This week I have missed the fabulous actors, characters & stories! What OLTL has been replaced with will never be watched in my home! So I reached out to fellow fans & watched old episodes that’s far better than the Repulsion!

I feel for you all. When ATWT ended, I was lost. There was a huge void. It was more than a soap or a TV show; it was the first connection that I remembered to my grandmother. And it was gone.

    Reply

  19. Casey says:

There is a void on my television screen, a void in my day, a void in my heart, and a void in my soul–all where ONE LIFE TO LIVE should be. The fact that “The Revolution” is failing miserably certainly pleases me to no end, but it is small consolation for the fact that OLTL is not here anymore. I’ve been keeping an archive of OLTL episodes on my computer hard drive going back several years, so I’ve been watching some of those this week, but it is not the same as looking forward to a new episode each day.

This is also my first week of my Spring semester (in college) and it has been particularly difficult to be in class all day and then come home to find that OLTL is not there to provide me a much-needed respite from the difficulties of the day. It just makes everything so much harder. It’s like the sunshine has been taken away from the day, but I have no choice but to keep muddling through it anyway.

But rest assured, I will keep fighting for OLTL, and for AMC, until they are back on the air where they belong. This first week without OLTL was difficult, and I don’t see it getting any easier, which is why the only option is to continue to fight to get them back–someway, somehow–lest the rest our days be as LIFE-less as the ones which we’ve just experienced.

My son & husband claim they weren’t into watching but knew characters & would ask questions when they missed something. I also watched AMC & GH from same time but OLTL was one I looked forward to and all week I would think it’s time & then remember no it’s not on anymore. I would read all comments from others on twitter and see I wasn’t alone in my feelings. I had already started watching Y&R after AMC went off had watched some before as grandmother watched. I am trying to get into B&B and Days to support ones left it is not the same as OLTL because I knew all the background but Its better than the crap they put on ABC will never watch it, it’s is a slap in face to women. Will continue to watch GH but there is a hole in my day & my heart with OLTL gone.

I am still pretty raw about the loss – any least little thing at all can provoke spontaneous weeping or loud lamenting.

I am taken aback at just how hard this has been for me – but am also not entirely surprised. The line between real direct human attachment and the attachment we create with the imaginary or fictional is questionable. Emotionally, mind does not fully recognize the difference, ESPECIALLY when these attachments are reinforced daily over a long period of time. The pain and loss FEEL much the same as losing the daily presence of a truly beloved friend and companion.

And OLTL was such a fabulously compelling and highly, if imperfectly, entertaining companion – just like most of my “actual” friends come to think of it.

Those of us who are able to fully embrace the peculiarities of this art form (yes, I said it) found its pinnacle in this wonderful and crazy show, whose imperfections were part of the ride. Some of us go a little off the rails over couple preferences and TOTALLY incredulous story lines, but we also know this is an inescapable and necessary part of the package – and we could relax and ultimately embrace it.

    Well, I could anyway.

If we always got what we wanted, even if that were at all possible, it simply would not be as entertaining – even if it makes us feel a little crazy at times. I am a puddle of RH/KDP/TnB/Manning Clan fangurlery, and believe me – that is the worst position to have been in for 90% of the last nearly 20 years. I find it hilarious when folks threaten the writers that they will stop watching if they don’t get their fave couple together pronto LOL. And the 2 Todd’s SL? Lord what an impossible but thoroughly engaging and hilarious mess THAT was!! Don’t even get me started on the volume of dropped plot points, the over-the-top torturing of the Jolie fanbase, the early exit of characters I loved (*sob* DORIAN *sob*) and the addition of those who were a total waste of MY time. I, after all, did have to concede that there are a lot of folks out there who apparently DO love the Ford brothers LOL. They all probably despise TnB so what are you gonna do? Roll your eyes, bitch and laugh your fool head off at how completely out of their minds THOSE “OTHER PEOPLE,” who are your compatriots after all, are.

Learning how not to be so concrete with our expectations and personal agendas is actually a sign of good mental hygiene and the ability to enjoy life in general LOL.

Well – clearly I am still pissed and sad – and in denial that anything cannot still be done to bring my lovelies back. Maybe a small piece of OLTL will live on buried within a PT version of GH. Maybe the match will light and be extinguished before we know it. Maybe there are some grand but publicly unknown plans to bring the whole show back in another form or on another network. Slim hope – but much like a soap hero or villain who has clearly died right in front of our very eyes, hope is hard to kill.

Okay – back to the yawning vortex of YouTube OLTL clips, episodes and mvids – and back to the grieving online community who is supporting each other, is organizing the various good fights to right the wrongs however they can, and who is laughing and crying with one another in reliving nearly half a century of precious memories. These are wonderful and dangerous places – and it is easy to get lost in them for larger chunks of time than most of us can actually afford LOL!

Eventually I will have to make the cut and wean myself, but I am just not there yet. *Le sigh*

I cannot get over how completely stupid they are to kick a dedicated audience in the @ss to take a chance on something that may completely fail – there are many other ways they could have cut costs – or added revenue – and kept OLTL alive. It’s so insane! They’re so INEPT!!! I’m so awed and mystified by it!

    david replied

Linda, it’s going to be sad and painful watching the final episodes. It was hard the first time I watched and maybe even worse last weekend when I went back and viewed them again. Every moment, every glance, every word, every smile seemed so precious, but heartbreaking, knowing the stories would never continue and that I would never see the characters again. But you are not alone and you will get through it. (Save your money for yourself. Most therapists cannot tell you anything you don’t already know or that a friend could.)

I feel like I was robbed at gunpoint. Something was taken from me…..and it feels horrible. There was no reason it should have been cancelled, and the final ratings reflect what a loyal fanbase it has and could have with proper promotion. If GH can become a telenovela primetime show, then why not OLTL? It would fit on Bravo or Lifetime perfectly, or dare I say ABC family. I bought the box set of every Dawson’s Creek, which is helping slightly, but really not being able to see Viki on a regular basis is going to put me through withdrawal symptoms. I am happy for the stars that have found work after OLTL, like HBS, and the gang going to GH. Yeh, sure, you can go ahead and indeed call it a boycott. Yesiree.

In addition to having lost these two ABC soaps, the terrible empty “lonely” feeling in the house each afternoon? … is awful., It’s esp. daunting to just realize there’s NO soap available AT ALL now during the 2-3 PM hour (East coast time) for the first time in years and years and years of daytime TV.

More and more, it feels like an era ( a really GOOD era!) has ended. It will never be the same. The nets couldn’t care less, either. –It’s all about the almighty $ .

Ahh heck, let’s face it……we’re ALL in mourning this week.

You are so right. Immediately after B&B goes off I am done with CBS for the day. Replacing AWTW & GL with The Talk & a hundred year old boring ass game show is every bit as insulting as what ABC did to AMC & OLTL.

About the lonely feeling in the house-I always loved having the soaps on-whether I was sitting there watching or just passing thru the room doing chores-(always recording them for later) It was like having company over that you loved every day-never feeling alone. There were days I’d watch a show live, then play the tape or watch again on Soapnet at night just for the company when my husband worked the evening shift.

Not well! This is the first time a show’s cancellation has upset me so much. No offense to other soap fans, but I’m a fan of good TV, not necessarily a blind fan of the genre. I think there have been cancelled soaps that had simply run their course, but our beloved ONE LIFE TO LIVE was not one of them. It was the highest rated soap on the network and the most acclaimed soap on television. Why was GH saved just because it happened to be an 80′s powerhouse? GL, ATWT, AMC and GH (potential) cancellations were/would be (in the case of GH) unfortunate, IMHO, but ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s cancellation was an injustice and a travesty. I’ve been catching some Y&R and DAYS on SoapNet recently. Y&R seems to be getting interesting again, though I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE for the RC/FV dream team to take over this show and restore it to its former and rightful glory. DAYS is just okay, mediocre at best. I won’t watch B&B or GH. And again, I’m sorry to other soap fans, I just don’t get why ONE LIFE TO LIVE had to be the one cancelled, while 3 of the 4 shows still on don’t even compete with our show in quality. Seems so wrong.

I missed OLTL so much. It was like missing a close friend who moved far far away, in the days before the internet and email. It’s an empty feeling, almost like a death. But I’m not willing to lose all hope yet. I’m angry that this great show, which is much better than GH (though I do watch GH) is being replaced by ABC just because it’s so profit hungry it doesn’t care what kind of garbage it gives us and tells us it’s filet mignon. Do they thnk the viewers are so stupid that they’ll like this garbage if they hype it enough? How dare they hype ‘The Revolution” at the end of our last One Life episodes. The only shows I watch on aBC now are GH and Castle. I watch old OLTL on soapnet and elsewhere online. I hope against hope that some network wil revive my 2 favorite soaps. Maybe Ron and Frank can save GH.

It’s a crying shame that One Life to Live among its predecessors had to go.We,the viewers enjoy the story more than their replacements.

I will boycott abc daytime and watch soaps on other channels. You can keep the chew and the revolution, because no matter how cheap they are to produce, they will never measure up to the value of All My Children and One Life To Live. I miss OLTL terribly…been watching since 1968. ABC’s grasp exceeded its aim of the female 19-49 audience as the intended target. What they never took into consideration is that Daytime viewers are born and bred. Many viewers had watched since the time they were young children in the laps of their mothers. Those same mothers became Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers. AMC and OLTL’s viewers were younger than 19, and older than 49. And surprisingly, many comments have been posted by men! They may have called it, “My wife’s show, my daughter’s show, or, my sister’s show”, but chuckle, they were watching too. ABC complely missed males as a demographic.

During the time slot when OLTL should be airing, I e-mail Lee, Iger, and Dummer with the copied poor ratings of the spew and the revulsion. It give me a lot of satisfaction to remind of their colosssal mistake!

OLTL was something to look forward to. It’s been lonely, painful, depressing, and empty without our Llanview family. I miss anticipating and sharing their joys and tribulations. It made getting through the day easier, knowing there would be another episode tomorrow and the day after that, but no more.

GH seems boring and insufferable in comparison. I can barely sit through an entire episode. I haven’t considered other soaps. Nothing on television offers the same entertainment, pleasure, and escape as OLTL. As I review videos of past episodes on the internet, I realize how many I had never seen or forgotten. Why doesn’t some cable network rerun OLTL from the beginning? Perhaps the videos on YouTube could be organized in some fashion to make that possible.

It was really hard and I think it will be for quite awhile. I mean I have a good life, an amazing family and friends and I am in no means depressed but One life to live was more than just a show to me, it was a place that I could go for an hour and not think of everyday worries and stresses. I struggle with anxiety and watching One Life to Live really helped me to forget about all of it. One life to live’s writers had such an incredible ability to write such amazing story lines (even if some of them were a little crazy at times) that made you connect. I think one of my favorite things about OLTL and why it’s always been my fave soap is the whole family/friendship/relationships aspect of the show. I love how all the characters are connected someway. All the relationships on the show were so meaningful and inspirational and so incredibly real! I think the writers were amazing but also the incredibly talented actors and actresses. Everyone on the show played their character so well and they all had such incredible chemistry with everyone else. You could always tell how close they must be outside of the show. Like they are truly a family. I absolutely love that. I will truly miss OLTL and all the times it helped ease my mind and erase my fears. It sucks having to say goodbye to something so special and unique, nothing can ever fill it’s void in the tv industry because there isn’t and will never be anything like it!

My personal view is to avoid all ABC/Disney products entirely (except GH). There has to be a negative impact on the network as a whole before the Disney corporation will pay attention. ABC has made it clear it will pursuing the least expensive programming to maximize revenue, regardless of quality. It’s not a strategy that should be rewarded. Greed is leading everyone to race to the bottom. Most television is garbage and probably does more harm than good. Quality will not be reconsidered until enough people turn it off and walk away. Revenue loss is the only thing these people understand.

Letters aren’t going to have an impact. People have to stop watching or ABC’s bet that most are stupid and can be trained will be accurate. Ultimately, I think a movement to reform television has to be broader than just soap viewers, and I am afraid ABC is right–many people do not have the motivation or the will power to stop watching and demand higher quality.

The inside jokes…The Characters…I mean where are you ever going to see another ROXY Balsom? David Vickers?? And go back to the Thanksgiving show when everyone was in the den at Llanfair & Viki gave her speech-something about letting people know how they really feel I think-anyway Roxy & John were next to each other & Roxy kind of punched/slapped John in the arm & he did the same thing back to her-shades of junior high- Such a funny cute moment. OLTL is the only show where I laugh out loud & also get tears in my eyes in every episode. Miss it more than I can say.

I must admit the best of the remaining soaps was OLTL. I usually watched on YouTube or SoapNet in the evenings since I have a very non traditional work schedule. I watched OLTL in the summers and vacation time in the mid 80′s forward since I’m in the academic/medical field.
I had a pretty bad childhood and when I caught Roger Howarth as one Thomas Todd Manning I recognised his great talent and was captivated. A true actor even when his story may not have been something he would have wanted for the character of Todd and he showed his displeasure by taking breaks from the show if I’m not mistaken. I figured I internalised and gained a lot of strength from Todd and how RH played him. Great credit goes to the writng staff as well Brava! So as an angry young woman I figured if this character Todd Manning could overcome (in a sense) his shitty childhood in any form and become decently successful in his professional life even if his personal life was always in a state of crazy I could do it as well and somehow I made something of myself. I can never express enough to OLTL’s writers and cast especially Erika, Roger, Florencia and Kassie what they have meant to my life!
A great show that will be missed by many people and I will not support ABC, Disney or any of its offshoots. Unless its Castle I’m done with ABC ciao. I can’t do GH with the mob centric story eating the show still but I’ll watch Roger, Kassie & Kristen when they are on, when they go Au Revoir.

The main reason I had cable was so I could catch OLTL on Soapnet, if I missed the show during the day. I have become frankly, disgusted with paying for reality shows, sports, kid shows and boring election fodder that I never watch. I bought a Roku instead and have now started streaming all the British episodic dramas I can find, and going online to buy the series or classic movies on DVD instead. That has helped a little, but I don’t think anything will ever replace the deep regard, and sense of family I felt toward One Life to Live. Is no wonder, I was in 5th grade when I started watching, and am now almost 50. I may be powerless in bringing the show back, but I do have the power to pull the plug on a medium that no longer produces the types of programs that I love. Best regards to all the other loyal and saddened fans, you are not alone.

It doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s cable or satellite, more choices has come to mean more garbage. I agree most programming–reality, sports, children, political commentary, infotainment, celebrity culture, sitcoms, reruns of old shows–is neither entertaining nor barely tolerable. It’s offensively stupid and a waste of time, except for those who stand to gain financially, which isn’t the viewer. If I watch anything, it is on either PBS or Create, which is free.

OLTL was truly something unique and special. Nothing else offers decades of entertaining family drama, topical social or health issues, humor, surprises, wit, catfighting friendships (Viki/Dorian, Nora/Lindsey, Blair/Tea), musicals (Babes Behind Bars), parodies (Grey Gardens), fine writing and storytelling, compelling acting, and so much more. I don’t think anything can ever replace this either, and I feel the same deep sense of loss after this being part of our lives for decades. I probably saw these characters more often than I did members of my own family.

I think turning off the television or selecting other media is the only choice left and it is not an easy one after becoming habituated. I admire your will power and hope more people follow your example. There simply isn’t any other way to affect programming, as the outcome of OLTL has demonstrated. Viewer appeals and ratings were ignored in favor of lower production costs and increased revenue.

I know there are other people suffering the loss of OLTL too, and that we aren’t alone, but I do feel alone and sad at times because all of this seems so unnecessary. That something this wonderful and so loved with such a history could be trashed is incredibly disheartening. Best wishes to you too.

I am mourning the loss of the best show on TV OLTL. It was a show with a heart and soul that entertained me through at least three decades and eased life’s sadness when I needed it. I work with at risk kids and OLTL would take the edge off a particularly sad day and allow me to escape for an hour a day. Now I DVR GH and watch it when I have the time. I could never do that with my OLTL I had to watch it that day. I watched some OLTL shows from the last week and wept I miss it so very much. I am soooo angry at the way ABC treated this exceptional daytime drama. My heart goes out to my OLTL fan community and the cast and crew of OLTL..

Just watched the last episode with Dorian and rewatched the parts with Dorian and Vicki a few times and I have to say the best parts of OLTL were with those two women! The two best actors and the two best foes and friends and I have to say that I miss them the most! The writing for them and the clothing and everything has been a wonderful time for all of us to watch and share! Thank you Erica and Robin for years of enjoyment! We miss you!

I started watching OLTL and AMC in 1980,and over the years when I worked or had to be away I would tape the shows, and in later years I watched SoapNet at 8 and 9 PM. I miss the shows so much. OLTL was my favorite, and I really do not watch much TV, but my family knew to give me my two hours each night with SoapNet for AMC and OLTL. My Son’s teased me about watching soaps, but they knew all of the characters and so did my husband. They watched more than they let on. My 21 year old always wanted to know what was going on with “STAR” LOL. Crush..Anyway to the question at hand, it was liked I had lost someone close. I did not know what to do with myself, and now I am spending too much time on the computer. I would have watched the online shows if that were possible. I was hopeful. I will be watching General Hospital now with Star, Blair, Todd, and John being on the show!!! LONG LIVE GH, and bring back OLTL and AMC.

Beginning the third week without OLTL, it hasn’t become easier. I watch old episodes and montages on YouTube, but they aren’t a substitute for the exciting anticipation I used to feel before a new daily episode, and I don’t feel the same sense of satisfaction afterwards, wondering what will happen next and how the storyline will continue. I am not taking much pleasure from The Revolution’s failure. It makes me all the more angry that OLTL was canceled for an ill-conceived, pathetic show no one wanted in the first place, and that ABC plans new soaps for primetime.

There is no substitute for OLTL. Nothing else offers the magical combination of everyone and everything that went into making OLTL so unique. I still marvel that something so loved and of such quality could be discontinued and not saved–pearls before swine.

They say time heals all wounds, but three weeks in it still hurts. I have been a soap fan basically my whole life. No matter what was going on in my life; school, work, marriage, children, etc. I kept up with my soaps. Especially OLTL. Not having OLTL in my life is like losing family and friends in one, huge, catastophic event! Unless you’re a soap fan, I don’t think you really get what its like to be so invested in a TV show. This was truly must-see TV. Whether on VCR, DVR, SoapNet, online, I made sure to keep up with my friends in Llanview. My friends, family and coworkers gossiped about them like they were our neighbors. I really miss the show and want it back. I even paid more for cable when they bumped SoapNet from the basic cable lineup! I just don’t get how ABC/Disney can be so shortsighted. I will continue my boycott of ABC/Disney and their sponsors until my soap comes back in some form.

My mother and I were huge fans of OLTL and GH. My mom was an AMC fan as well. Since her retirement fourteen years ago, we would watch or discuss the soaps every day. It was our relaxation time. It was the only time she allowed herself to veg out. The shows kept us bonded and well connected. Unfortunately, my mom passed away the end of August so she did not get to see the finale’s of AMC or OLTL. I feel like I am losing my mom all over again because during the last few months I would sit and talk to my mom during OLTL and GH and felt like she was there watching and listening. I feel completely lost during the afternoon. I miss my mom and OLTL. OLTL kept me connected to her a little bit longer. I am feeling such a profound loss.

Boycott ABC daytime except for General Hospital

    Boycott all Disney Products

Boycott any one who did not support the soaps.

I watched OLTL for over 35 years. Like many others, I started off watching with my mother and a couple years ago introduced my son to the show. Watching OLTL together led us to having some very interesting mother-son discussions. Other times I would watch alone, often it would be the only way I could relax and get my mind off my own issues at the end of a long, stressful workday. So, I would say that the past couple weeks I have been more stressed and sleeping less, and just plain disappointed.

Did ABC anticipate how much of their night-time audience they would lose due to this decision? I don’t even think about turning on ABC in the evening since I am no longer seeing all the preview advertising for shows.

I ‘m a long time viewer of GH also, but I tend to let the episodes pile up on my DVR and then go through several in one evening. I end up fast-forwarding any scene that includes Sonny or talks about Sonny, so this really doesn’t take very much time. Nothing against the actor, I think he does a fine job, but all he is given to do is recite the same monotonous mob speeches over and over. I can just imagine the writers cutting and pasting every day to create the dialogue for his scenes. Why do I still watch? For the moments here and there that remind me of how good the show used to be, and could be again. I am looking forward to seeing some positive changes with new writers on board, old favorite actors returning, and some relocated LLanview residents.

But nothing will ever take the place of OLTL, and I know it’s highly unlikely but I still hope that somehow we’ll get a chance to return LLanview again. One thing is for certain, shows about people chewing or receiving inane self-help advice are not going to be airing in my household in its place.

I totally agree with everything you said and I too have been a fan for 35 years. OLTL is and always will be my favorite show. I have been watching old clips and revisiting amazing Jolie scenes and becoming jealous of the fact that Dante and Lulu (whom I do enjoy as a couple) get to have their wedding and some couple screen time but Jolie won’t??? ABC shortchanged OLTL and I have lost respect for my once favorite network. I still miss my OLTL. I used to look forward to watching it every day and at this time I can’t say the same about GH. Sorry I just can’t… it doesn’t have the heart that OLTL had…it doesn’t have the humor….it doesn’t have the amazingly fun, endearing, and compelling stories that OLTL had. Sigh…

Also signing every petition that comes my way in the hope that it somehow helps. It’s February… and it still sucks! I watched OLTL all the years it was on. I remember when Vicky was not played by Erica! I watched all my children some, and usually watched GH only because it was on after OLTL but GH annoyed me at times (crappy writing or such) and I’d not watch it, sometimes for years at a time. But I always watched OLTL! The first week it was off, I ended the empty week with a OLTL “movie” on Sunday night…. I thankfully have VHS tapes into the early 90′s if not late 80s of OLTL – and now have a VHS to DVD recorder so I can preserve them long past my VCR’s life. So I’ll have to do with my own blast from the past episodes from time to time.
I would love if some channel would play OLTL from the beginning, all over again. I know I really enjoyed seeing Knott’s Landing from the beginning after it went off the air. I don’t remember what channel replayed, but that was fun!
ABC used to be the top channel for me…. now it’s like the whole channel went off the air to me! ha!

I started watching OLTL from the beginning at a very young age. It was my time with my mom when my siblings were either at school or napping. I remember the early stories of Vicki/Nicki and Carla/Clara so clearly. I would love to see those again. I watched the SoapNet OLTL marathon on New Years Day and it left me wanting more classic episodes. I can’t believe that ABC/D doesn’t appreciate what they have. For years I thought there should be a Classic Soap Channel, especially after SoapNet changed its format to include those crappy reality shows and endless 90210. So many possibilities.

I loved Knots Landing too and watched the whole series. Soapy goodness.

Why does ABC continue to oppose the will of 3 million + fans? While those numbers may pale in comparison to historic soap ratings, 3 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at. Especially if they are a loyal 3 million.

I watched OLTL not out of habit but because it rocked. My favorite shows: Parks & Recreation, Modern Family, OLTL. While I’m excited to see KD, RH, KA and ME on GH, that’s not an adequate replacement for OLTL. GH has its own rich history. Hear us ABC!! There must be some way to bring back OLTL. How about a seasonal format? Or alternate with GH. Six weeks on, six weeks off. Generate more revenue with international deals, smart product placement, etc. The ratings increases prove that its possible to grow a soap audience.

One more thought – imagine a modern Downton Abbey-like series set in the Buchanan compound in London? Nigel’s cousin and the rest of the staff reacting to the American Buchanan’s rough and humble shenanigans. Who’s in London? Kevin, Joey and Kelly, Rex and Gigi, Cord and Tina. Adrianna lives right across the English Channel. Three month summer mini-series. Air it whenever you want, because we’ll DVR it. Or just bring back OLTL.

I still think that if ABC want viewers then they need to bring back OLTL. I don’t understand how paying someone to sit in the auidence is going to give them ratings but so be it. I will never forgive ABC for what they did and now they figured that if they bring some characters from OL to GH people are going to be happy, some may be but we will be more happy if they brought back OLTL.
