Add this to the list of more changes at The Young and the Restless – casting side!  TV Guide is reporting today that Ignachio Serricchio, best known for his role as the text-message killer, Diego Alcazar on General Hospital, and more recently for his portrayal of Manny Ramos on  the hit web series, The Bay, has been cast in a new role on the number one soap!

Serricchio is now set to play a new character named Alex, a streetwise undercover officer who comes to Genoa City from the Big Apple with a big secret.  A representative for Y&R informs TVG that the actor is expected to begin work in late October and will hit the air in December.

The casting of Serricchio looks to be a part of a previously announced initiative from new Y&R executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps and head writer, Josh Griffith, of bringing a prominent Latino contingent to the top-rated soap!

What do you think of the casting of Ignachio?  Let us know your thoughts!

Love all the hot young people coming in! I hope they are not all immiature and disrespectful like Abby,Summer,Fen ,and Kyle. We need young people who act right not throw tantrums.

Noah also needs a spouse so he stops disrespecting Sharon. She is his mother and far from wrong. He should be mature enough to know the town has treated Sharon bad and wrong!….

They needed to get rid of all the older people they hired to make room for the Young and the Restless and hot! The show was becoming the Old and decrepit with Victor Nikki and Tucker yuck

The Old and the Decrepit? That is an awful thing to say.

It is true Genoa city was in desperate need of ethnic diversity. And they were running out of eligable men to pair with existing female characters. So as long as they write a good story for these new characters and don’t put all the core players on the back burner I will be willing to give this new character and others a chance

Well, with all the firing/hiring going on, the ratio is way off balance.
There will be 13 women vs. 20 men.
How do you figure they are running out of men?

I was thinking of eligable men, characters who are not married or seriously involved with anyone at the moment and I could only think of Jack, Tucker and Neil. I wasn’t counting the boys, like Noah, Kyle or Fen. I didn’t count the cast members literally, because I was thinking of male characters available to have a romance with available female characters– characters that they haven’t all ready been paired together before, in my mind the potential for a new romance between exitsting characters seem slim and new male leads would widen that relationship pool a bit. Does that explain my reasoning better?

Here’s a quote from the interview head writer Josh Griffith gave to TV Guide about recent firings: “We looked at the characters that didn’t have long-reaching history and connection to the heart of the show and made the tough call to cut them loose so we can focus on the core.” Sooo…I’m asuming these three new guys are recasts of old favorites? JT with a sunburn? David Kimball found a better plastic surgeon? It seems pretty obvious that these are new characters with no “long-running history” with the show. We also heard about Y&R having too many characters. So the new regime fired three actors…and hired three actors. I think the new gang has the right to do whatever they feel will improve the show. But when you call it a return to old favorites or a leaner cast to give each character more time and then hire three newcomers… And, yes, bringing on a Latino presence is a great idea. But if the goal of this is “diversity”, why remove two of six contract roles for African-Americans at the same time? The audience is smart enough to understand how a budget works. We know they needed to fire expensive actors and hire cheaper ones – period. No other “theme” to this restructuring seems to hold up to scrutiny in light of these recent hires. It wasn’t a return to old favorites or an increase in airtime per player. And, while it may be technically more diverse since there is almost no Latino presence on the show currently, the ratio of white to non-white characters is about the same. When the new writer and producer say it’s this and this and this and budget – and then make changes which seem only to fix the budget, which problem do we think they were really fixing?

Does this mean we solve a case and we get rid of the dirt bag Ronan? Then heck yes I am all in.

I know for a hot shot FBI agent this guy has a hard time putting 2 and 2 together. And why is the Micheal the DA doing the job of the police? Didn’t these folks ever see Law & Order, first the police gathers the evidence, then you arrest the suspect, then you go to court. In Genoa City they arrest you then they try to find the evidence sometimes as the trail is progress. It is so sad, poor Genoa City PD was never the same after Carl Williams left.

First we need a DA’s office and Michael would never be the DA he is a convicted felon only by the grace of Christine did he get his law license back you know the one where we do corporate law, custody law, murder. Only on a soap.

Another unnecessary cast addition. Does not make sense.

Why not bring him on as a recast Raul? That character already has an established connection to core characters

Why do we need a cop? I was hoping the cop stories would fizzle out. I just don’t understand what’s going on at Y&R.

True…if they wanted to beef up the Latino population they already have Raul. Oh, wait…Raul would be Latino AND gay….one too many minorities for Y&R.
