164 April 6th, 2016 Important Message For Site Posters: Unacceptable Comments & Guidelines

Over the last several weeks, On-Air On-Soaps has seen an alarming increase in hostile comments from site posters that are violating guidelines set by this site. Many of these comments lack human decency, are out of line, and completely disrespectful to the feelings of others.

These comments have turned off site visitors and fans, who would also like to participate and share their views about what people have to say in the specific topic being discussed in a post.  To be clear: the initial starting question for discussion in a post is generated by me at the end of each news post.  That is what site posters should be paying attention to when posting a comment, which starts a “thread”, if you will, to open up the discussion.

The moderators have been trying valiantly to keep up with: the constant influx of negativity, insults hurled at one another by the posters (which has become a chronic condition), and the offensive way in which people are feeling a sense of entitlement that they can post snide and contrite comments, and that this behavior is acceptable.

The moderators have tried multiple ways to diffuse the situation: not allowing others who have been attacked to fire back and thus not approving their comment, allowing the comments in the hope of putting in end to the conversation between two posters and resolving the conflict, and not approving the offensive comment at all.  However, nothing has tempered the situation.

I would like each of you to remember this: I work very hard to bring you the content I do every day, and I cannot, and will not, have my brand tarnished, because some posters are making it impossible for others to enjoy the content and scaring away other people from wanting to participate.  In addition, the site regulars have to also watch their step – the constant back and forth with each other is not on point with the topic discussed in an individual post.

So it’s up to all of you, the beloved community members of On-Air On-Soaps.  Are you going to help us clean up this village?  We need your help.  We value everyone’s right to an opinion, and welcome them to post, and want them to enjoy doing so, but it can’t be at the expense of others.

So here are the posting guidelines so there is no misunderstanding:

  • There will not be any offensive or rude comments about actors on this site.   This also extends to personal attacks on writers and producers, and behind the scenes personnel.  If you want to comment on the character they play, or a storyline they write, or a show they produce, and you are not happy with that is one thing, but attacking them personally, is another.  These are real human beings treat them as such. They not a punching bag or a butt of a joke.

  • Continuing to post ad nauseum the same thing over and over again: example: comments on the character of Alexis Davis.

  • Anti-gay, racism, bigotry, and any intolerant comments for human beings will immediately be disapproved.

  • Going off-topic: please do not make a side thread of comments unrelated to the main discussion as it becomes an unreadable experience for people to have to sift through when they just want to know about the comments on the topic and people’s point of view on it.

  • Any poster who continues to incite other posters with verbal attacks will be blocked from commenting on this site permanently.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope you will take a moment to hit your own personal reset button, and let’s enjoy the soaps and have fun with it together, and not tear each other down in the process.

Xo’s

Michael

I second this. Lately, I come to the site just to read the articles & excellent interviews that Mr. Fairman does. Don’t spend much time in the Comment section anymore because of all the ugliness that people write. It doesn’t illuminate anything about the subject matter, and just makes soap opera fans look half-crazed. It’s television, people! You know – optional entertainment. It’s supposed to be viewed for your enjoyment. If it’s a punching bag that you need or want to expel your frustrations upon, go to the gym. You’ll be much healthier for it.

Jean and Shelly; their looks or family etc, personal is not fair game.

Thank you for this. I have several friends from the other side that I have made in groups who I sit and debate for hours and it never gets personal or rude. I have no idea why anyone would take this show so seriously that you have to act like you hate someone because they like a different thing than you.

    CeeCee replied

Thank you, Sherri. That has been my premise from the start. I only joined two years ago while convalescing after the trying delivery of my baby. I offered my opinions and was attacked. Stubborn, as I am known to be, I responded by defending myself, never offending; unless it got really ‘wild’ and responded in kind, with a modicum of respect. To be honest, I had intimated that I was not going to participate on the GH site, after being cornered.
However, Shay and Timmm gave me pep-talks and I stayed. But, the barrage of insults kept coming. I truly tried avoiding it, but there, right after my comment would be another in-your-face atrocious name-calling, laughing at me for my ignorance and so forth.
Nonetheless, I and a couple others were ‘reprimanded’, our posts obliterated from sight while the offender got through free and clear.
This does not happen on Y&R or Days.
I thank Mr. Fairman for this. I am not exculpating myself in the least because I could have cut it short by not responding at all…..and I tried. But messages that were not seen on the site, were, nonetheless, sent to my inbox. How personal can one get?…..
Constantly reminding me that I have no clue about life ( if anyone has a clue, it is I….I who lost a baby at the young age of 24)…… Constantly reminding me of my age, which seems strange to me …..talk about ageism!!!!!! It works both ways. I am young, therefore I am dumb.
Mr. Fairman, you know we are human, and as such, the instinct to defend ourselves is paramount to nourishing our mind and body. Only one person started the fire. We tried stopping it, ignoring it, but the flames did get into the soul. We have feelings.
The people who recently ‘came out of the woodwork’, as these fair, intelligent and funny fans, answered the way they did, without insulting anyone, because they saw what a debacle and spectacle just one person created for years. As a matter of fact, a couple of posters, who have been watching for years, but never posted, came forth trying to squelch the insults….such as: needing psychological help, being hard of hearing, or just plain idiots. Why? Over one specific fictitious character.
I like to make that clear……Shay…help me out here….you are a much better writer than I am…..among so many others. I am TOO YOUNG to even CONTEMPLATE putting my point across…..and ignorant.

Famous statement less is more I am not going to comment after today on this site I respect MF too much to make it unpleasant for him having a business myself you have to do what is best for your business! PS: I never comment on age and you seem to be in the middle of this topic, unfairly. Let me give you one more boost today my dear. Age is a number, your number is lower than others, who cares. Just because you are younger doesnt mean you are not wiser. I work with a 25 year old girl who is expecting a child. A lot of her co-workers are older. This girl at 25 is 100 times more mature, 100 times more intelligent and she will make a extraordinary mother! Age is just a number!

    Luv you!

Oh, Kay. You did not even cross my mind. Actually, I don’t even remember you insulting me on anything! Why would you think that? We are usually pretty much in-sync.
I apologize if you feel I go on and on….only in my defense; and su’s, and jimh’s and Shay’s and Timmm’s , and whoever else is attacked….but, I never wrote a 4-page comment…only a couple or three paragrspghs, LOL. You must be mistaking me with someone else.
I wish you would stay, but I do understand, Kay. Are you continuing with your College education? I do wish you the best….look in, once in a while.

re the writers- Ron C. and the producer something along the line of their sick fantasies in relation to male strippers at the ball – this and who wants to see gross love scenes with brad and lucas- by one of the so-called “uber” prolific posters who had one particularly offensive post removed right before this posting guide came out- I find those offensive and yes the writing is not always your favorite or mine but even then I would refrain -me, personally- from invoking their names-but I am just saying for me. I can not take the comments section anymore on any site. This one seemed less vitriolic but there is bashing on this page and when one person disagrees with another and then this persons buddies on here come running- how likely would you be to post anything in the slightest disagreeing? The offensive poster noticeably absent on this thread but still posting today and who knows who is who – I choose to pass but I only speak for me and guess that does not count for much on here.

He has not since posted on here. Nor have others who may have made snide remarks but they were not addressed to a real person and were in the context of what seemed humor- and we all have out own take on that as well. And you stated you had been friends with the poster whom you and her if indeed you are female and individuals- boy that love-fest sure soured, did it not? So perhaps a cautionary tale of be careful in your dealings on the internet and your kind words to Mr. Fairman- is not some apology for your repeated personal diatribe at many- or supposedly or allegedly- in order?

I’m going to exercise self control as to not give, once again, the history of the argument. It goes back pages and pages and posts and posts and the subject, ageism, (against.a woman character who has been called wrinkled and many mong other things pushed many buttons.

In my response to Shay ( which did not make it on the board), I did apologize to you for my part in carrying things too far. We did hit it off at the beginning, and, as ridiculous as this may sound, I know that, even after the ugly words and disputes, you never doubted my or Shay’s gender. LOL. Laughable, isn’t it? You also warned me about my naiveté.

THANK YOU, Michael Fairman for resetting the tone.

    Reply

    Geoffrey-Martin Cyr replied

I echo what Tivette posted above about re-setting the tone and I concur with SoftJohn: my apologies if I ever offended anyone (personally) with what I’ve posted; I do not make it a practice to address other posters as I have better things to do with my time rather than engage in a war-of-words.
And while I am certainly all for ‘feel good’ posts about jobs well-done, I do not apologize for being a staunch supporter of healthy discussion when things don’t track, actors/characters that phone-it-in or producers/writers that need to be held to task for a pattern of bad choices they’ve carried from other shows or just their track record in general. I submit that I most certainly do NOT know everything there is to know about daytime, but by following the genre for four decades, working for a global news organization and by being blessed to freelance both in-front of and behind-the-scenes of daytime, it does give me a certain knowledge-base and perspective that not the average viewer can share; part of that is actually KNOWING the people I talk about and part comes with being on the planet for half-a-century, believe me!
But I challenge myself to not come from a place of arrogance, but rather a place where I’ve done my homework and 90% of the time, I know what I’m talking about because I have the context and I’ve done my homework. If that is off-putting to some of you, again, I cannot help that perception. Many a show/storyline I’ve had to grit-my-teeth through, knowing that sometimes you have to ride it out, because in the end, the SHOW will always be there (God-willing), but actors, writers and producers are cyclical and replaceable … and as fans, our voices can effect change if they are not serving the story we’ve made an investment for decades to follow. So when I hear the argument “don’t like it, don’t watch’, I always counter with ‘if we don’t watch, they are ALL out of work; they depend on our loyalty to their product and if they piss-off enough of us, the numbers will bear-us-out and change can be made.
Michael does groundbreaking coverage and this site is a legacy he provides to keep the genre relevant and ongoing. I would never want to detract or sully that brand, so I will pledge to contain my critiques to other sites/blogs that some of you follow me on. (The support I’ve received from some of you has been encouraging and heart-warming, and just know that it sustains me to keep speaking out when I refuse to just put a fresh coat of paint onto a bad situation.) I enjoy the passion I read on this site; it reminds me of the glory days of daytime, but today’s viewers tend to be much more informed and knowledgeable and that always makes for a healthy discussion. Thank you again, Michael, for all you do for the viewers and for letting me weigh-in!

Well guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I am really, truly happy for this statement to be made by Mr. Fairman, and he does work hard and the poor moderators do too and thank you and I am not saying this to get posted I really don’t care about that. I hope this is not offensive, but I would request the others besides the actors- who are human beings- as we all are- but the others involved in making the stories- the writers- past and present the most atrocious insulting things are said about them and the others on staff at these shows and well I just don’t like it at all. I fear posting on any site but this one always seemed different and special but has become a battle field.
I thought people were over the top passionate about some characters- either fans or not- but these people have been using the characters or actors as pawns, I guess or battle bots in a back-and-forth that is unrelenting and then others who don’t realize this are drawn in and supported like new recruits and they are welcomed, but it is only to advance their own agenda. And I thought some soap stories were bizarre! We have lost several soaps and the genre many say is over with. Well when a person new to soaps or wanting to be a part of this comes here if they are not being recruited are totally ignored- many ask questions and I don’t know the answers -I myself have several questions and been fearful to ask and people instead of answering are mean and telling others what to do or how they should think and then others see a particular actor’s name and again love or hate the poster with their comments- which have nothing whatsoever to do with the posters comments. I don’t understand all the codes and abbreviations and strange terms often-yes often- used on here and then see threads with these and have no idea what is being discussed. Ok, my two cents. I hope to hear from Mr. Fairman more often- I like being addressed by him and even when my Big Daddy of the Soaps has to spank us naughty kids, Big Daddy Fairman is kind and classy and loves the genre, stands up to bullies, and has built a community based on love of soaps and the people within that world. Thanks.

I am really confused by your writing, Ms Bettina. Are you saying that we posters have an agenda? To what end? Where is it going to get us? It looks to me, dear Bettina, you are a new recruit. I do not think I have seen your name before. Do you have an agenda? The bashing had gotten so bad, people DID come out of the woodwork, since the moderators did not!! If I am told to leave these sites, sobeit.
Yes, admittedly, we sometimes step out of line towards a character. It is not done with malicious intend, at least, not by me. But, what you are doing right now is exactly what Mr. Fairman does not want us to do. Attack other posters, in general. That rule was broken just as any other.
Only one poster, to use your word, was atrocious, by calling some of us the most offensive names possible. It was to that vocabulary that many posters commented, en masse, in answer to that ludicrous, demeaning verbiage, making one feel less than.
Please read Jamesj75. Now, that is a well-conceived, brilliant piece of writing. What is your agenda?
I am sorry, no one has an agenda because we are faceless people, no one tries to show off, except one. …..however, we have made friends, and it is easy to weed out the insufferable crop. No one wants to be called crazy or stupid or told what to do, as you indicated. Only one poster thinks she/ he is intellectually superior to others. This person was called on it……rightfully so. Please, ma’am, you are lording it over.
It is posts like yours that get through, but the response never sees the light of day. I am not sure if Mr. Fairman sees this. As long as a comment is within the perimeters of respect, every one should go to print.
Naughty kids? If that’s not offensive, I don’t know what is. Oh, Lordy, Lord. That’s rich!!! With all due respect.

CeeCee, I don’t mean to butt in, but thank you for your shout-out and compliment! I am thrilled that Mr. Fairman was motivated to clarify his remarks, as I think some confusion may have resulted. I did write a kind, grateful follow-up reply to Mr. Fairman, but as of this writing, it is “awaiting moderation.”

As you know, I think the world of you! You are a caring, insightful person and terrific writer. I’m not sure I fully understand what Bettina G is referencing, but I don’t see you as having an agenda. And I didn’t know, until reading some of these posts, that you might have been criticized because of your age. That is unfathomable to me… Online opinions and attitudes can be easily misconstrued, as I have certainly learned. Let me just say that people like you, jaybird369, jimh, and others make this site such a pleasure and a welcoming place for me. I look forward to more classy, uplifting contributions from you! Take care, Friend!

    Kevin Roberts replied

I did not see Betting as having an agenda. She posted a couple days ago about Neil and Tad and you agreed with her. She wished some other woman happy anniversary. I did not find the naughty kids statement in the slightest bit offensive. I did not find your responses to her classy and uplifting. You got attacked on here I take it and that is not pleasant but you have not been particularly pleasant on this page except to friends and it is legitimate to question I would hope. You don’t know me nor I you so am I a lesser being in total? There was a tv movie called tallhotblonde or something like that and it was based on the true story of a woman who used pics of her daughter and created an identity and spent a good deal of time at this and very convincing and ended up one man killed another over a person who in reality did not exist. I think that was just trying to be pointed out that not all is as it seems on here and when you have been questioned- not attacked- you bring in one personal thing after another as an explanation and you are quite skilled at navigating and writing and yet are completely surprised someone would think you are spinning tales to manipulate- and why? Well, that only you can answer and I now probably will get the same as Bettina or whomever and I am not wanting to engage or hear from your buddies how sweet you are. People on here very kindly suggested a refrain and yet you are on overdrive on this thread and site and that is your right but I am not wanting more of any of this.

    CeeCee replied

    @Jamesj75.
Thank you so much, my friend. And, double thanks for ‘reading’ me so well. You and I did connect instantly.
Yes, my age became a topic of discussion by one especially, followed by a few ‘chimers’. It’s as if I have to make excuses for my age.
I never came out with my age, James. It was with conversations with Shay, who is very intuitive, that my age came out. She guessed by our conversation….the first we ever had. She also guessed, by my writing, that I attended Prep School in New England. I did not just, off the top of my head, disclose all this. Of course, the rest is history…..
Whether out of annoyance or whatever, someone became hung-up on my age. And, as you can see, it’s like the plague…others are continuing with a mild ‘attack’….yet, these posts are not moderated?
You, sir, are a gem. Allow me to say, I wish I knew you, personally. Your aura shines so bright.
Thank you, again, dear man. Please forgive any typos.

    THIS, IS THE ONE, that I have reservations with;

    as a soapie to the gills…. I love reading fan … POSTS…

Soapbox….. Jim H is one of my favorites

if we have to wait for a thread “like” what catches all our imagination… and want to share OUR ideals on how we view our serials…. leaves me wondering… adrift

I hope these guidelines – do not – take the spontaneity out of sharing ” Love TO Hate” gamut of all things serial

I had to think about these things… and thought… perhaps … the one time… for all of us to share… and encompass all our likes dislikes and passion is when THE THREAD for the weekly ratings come out once a week… then it’s a free for all.. to share as many as we want…. NO?

I read many posts who campaign, nurture, prop, elevate, critique characters, long for the good ole days…

truth be told… is when POSTS recall their spot on delivery of story lines… you all slay me… with your accuracy

AND when posts talk about all the other soaps that are near and dear to us… RIP

so… I guess this is the one… guideline… will I be missing posts who share their rich history

It truly gives me a differing perspective when POSTS share all their likes and dislikes of all the goings on with the 4 remaining.

    1. no immature antics of spewing “vitriol” with POSTS… DONE !

    2. no disrespecting ACTORS personally… keep it to their characters… DONE!
oy! the gamut of BAD actors to sublime … is vast

    3. ad nauseum… character assassination… FANDOM on notice … done?
I do like the repetitious of; be it Sam or Liz… with Jason… but, that’s wore out it’s welcome… Liz is on top any way…. with Franco. YUM!

    4. “…Anti-gay, racism, bigotry, and any intolerant comments for human beings will immediately be disapproved. ” DONE

Thanks Michael, this is a post that it’s a shame you had to make on your own site, but one that was unfortunately long overdue.

To be perfectly honest, I have stopped coming here as often as I used to, because quite frankly I can’t stand the constant negativity. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and has the right to express those opinions, but when it’s the same negative thoughts day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, by the same small group of people, it gets really tiresome. That falls under the category Michael mentioned about posting the same things over and over ad nauseum.

I watch and enjoy soaps for the escape from the problems of my every day life. I don’t have the time or the desire to read through a bunch of a negativity day after day.

The vast majority of the people I’ve interacted with here are good people that want to have legitimate discussions and debates about our favorite shows and characters. It’s just a shame that a small minority has to ruin it for everyone else. Hopefully everyone will read what Michael had to say, and take it to heart. I know I have. Peace and love to all!

I am sure you are friends with several people in the industry that read your column. It is not a great feeling to read negative comments or personal attacks. I have learned that people hide behind their computers and feel free to make nasty comments, knowing they will not have to ever face the person face-to-face.

As soap fans, sometimes people forget that actors have feelings just like everyone else. It is not fair to speculate on an actor’s personal life, no matter how much we feel like we know them. Actually, we don’t know them at all, only their alter-ego character.

I love soap actors and appreciate their hard work. I might not like everything about my favorites, but they are simply reading what writers have written. Love it or hate it, be respectful.

I agree that making personal comments about actors is totally rude and out of bounds. But what about comments on their acting? In the same way that I think we should be allowed to comment on the quality of the writing, I think it is also fair game to talk about the quality of the acting. My one exception would be kid actors. I think everything should be done to respect and protect them and I would never post a negative comment about a kid’s acting. But there are some actors who, despite years on a show, have not improved or grown in the part and I think those comments – as long as they are matter of fact and not mean spirited – are valid.

    Michael Fairman replied

    Hi Melissa:

Just to clarify: The only thing I said was “personal” attacks on actors or writers, producers. I did not say that you can’t commment on your point of view, negative or positive, on the storylines, quality and anything related to the job they perform or related to the show they are on.

    Best,
    Michael

    CeeCee replied

Words well-taken, Ray. I am guilty, among soooo many others, of criticizing characters without a care of the actor/actress feelings behind any particular character. However, be that as it may…Is it ok to bash another poster? Two wrongs do not make a right. It would be like ‘speaking from both sides of one’s mouth). ONE SHOULD NOT BASH OTHER POSTERS EITHER. I have been victimized over and over. It was never stopped. So, I hope Mr. Fairman’s admonition/warning speaks for BOTH actors and posters.
The distinction is loud and clear.
I truly am sorry for my part in abusing the GH site expectorating myself on the characters I do not like. I always assumed that because a celebrity puts himself/herself in the negative spotlight, in dressing a certain way, he /she should expect it. I will be more sensitive towards Alexis, Sonny and Julian. I always have had the character in mind….never the actor/actress. Did not see past that. I am adult enough to admit that. The irony is, I really and truly like Nancy.

Delighted to read this statement. I wondered if this site had been sold or hijacked. I feel it has been hijacked and now the Captain is back at the helm. We as humans all want to be accepted and praised and a part of. But the regular and ultra-prolific posters on here have extended a welcome as a manipulative trap woven within a soap opera and character in a mean girls and mean boys scheme to lash out at other posters on here. It certainly sounds like a bizarre plot- but I have watched this and been taken in myself and then see how others are taken in, and once they have served their purpose, spit out and on to the next and play victim and espouse lofty ideals. Enough. Then the posters on here in every thread. Attack the actor, writer-whomever. Then in the same thread sing their praises and then demand someone explain their thought or post and I believe we are all entitled to be heard and an opinion, but this is MF on soaps and not a personal blog or website- which I would suggest to these folks as they obviously have plenty to say, every minute every day and crave a response whether good or bad- they incite for entertainment. Writers are people too- just as actors and the attacks have been so disgusting and outrageous and are daily. I am happy to pay for s subscription to this site- not more than $25 a year – but if that would preserve the integrity of it and the comments- it is very much worth it. I would encourage a limiting on daily posts- I know that may seem offensive or extreme, but I do not care to be a pawn in these games and that is what they are- wrapped in soap and not at all smelling pretty. This is not a union house- there is no seniority nor do the shows offer union protections and the folks that invest their lives in being “The” expert in characters plots and so forth and use this to demean, attack and show their superiority- again why not get your own show, or blog or a life even as I fear that these shows for some become their lives in a way that is twisted and all-consuming and must be fed by others misery. Thank you.

@CeeCee….Thank you for your thoughtful reply….I’ve long wanted to clarify that even though your unfortunate episode with another poster was perceived to have initially launched that now infamous war of words in which we’ve both been entrenched for far too long, at least from my perspective, it was merely the last straw for me, the one that broke the camel’s back. Now that I have commented upon that situation for what I can only hope will be the last time ever, I truly desire to move on and get back to enjoying the intended purpose of this website….that’s how and why we first encountered each other….over our mutual musings on GH, even though we certainly discovered many other common interests along the way, too. (Hence our regrettably bad habit of going off-topic….) In that spirit of renewal, I wish you a nice, relaxing “real life” weekend with your precious family so that when we resume posting, we can aim for that reset that Mr. Fairman has outlined for us all…..one that “accentuates the positive and eliminates the negative.” No more feeding the beast, even if it comes a’knockin’ at the door begging for scraps….easier said than done, to be sure, but I’m going to try my darndest to adhere to that goal, and I know you can, too. Buona notte, bella!

    Shay replied

@Barbara…..I don’t know how long you have been privy to all the verbal escapades that have pervaded these pages (GH threads, specifically….) over these last few years because I first became aware of your remarks on that wild and wacky “soap-within-a-soap” odyssey over this past weekend. (And speaking of that, at first I thought it was an “April Fools’” edition, then a very clever invention devised by the MF team to demonstrate absurdity by being absurd, yet also deliver an important message at the same time, and finally, a truly serious grassroots effort when some of the more real-to-life posts appeared…..perhaps it was a combination of all three, but needless to say, I found it to be great fun with a lot of new people, and decided to just roll with it….) At any rate, I did thank you for your kind comments, as well as a few others, and to clarify, they were most sincerely meant and appreciated. My personal story is that I have been contributing here for approximately three years, and began because of my frustration with what I saw as an utter decline in the quality of GH, which is the only soap that I watch these days, and not even all the time, although I keep up with recaps and spoilers. All I ever wished to do was state my case upon what I felt was ruining a once great daytime institution…nothing more, nothing less. However, through the years, this website has become a favorite place for me to post my most whimsical and wickedly witty thoughts on all things GH, and thankfully, there are a number of others who seem to enjoy these remarks, too. (And yes, I will admit that I can get carried away with my particular sense of humor, because I am an extremely fun-loving girl, and sometimes that needed to be put into check. Mr. Fairman did just that….fair enough.) But having said that, in all my time here, I rarely ever received a harsh reaction to my cheeky comments….they were very few and far between. That is until one person decided to create this ongoing animus with me. Although I had previously corresponded with this particular party, there were some disturbing hints as to what was to come….little digs and snipes within their posts directed at me and those who had .

Hey, “Marky Mark!”….I hate to break it to you, but I’m 100% female….always have been, always will be….Hence whilst I’ve often been accused of being a princess in real life, I’ve never been called a queen, old or otherwise. You–and one or two others—are barking up the wrong tree–”pruning list” and all—pal! (Or should I say “galpal?” If anybody has been doing impersonations here, it’s not me. Your usage of the “love and light” phrase, not to mention the previous “Botoxis,” betrays you along with your beloved cast of characters….and for the record, no, I wasn’t fooled, but it was such a kick, I played along. Thanks for the laughs, “Sugar.”) As for your assertion that others here may not truly be as they represent themselves? All I can say is that most of those with whom I’ve regularly conversed for years now have never given me reason to not to take them at face value…despite the recent insanity this website has witnessed, the majority of my dealings with posters here have been very normal, sincere and straightforward….I don’t know how long you’ve been visiting this website, but what has been going on as of late is not indicative of the usual MFSoaps experience, at least not from my perspective! Therefore, for you to insinuate that those who have shared their personal tragedies with us are putting us on is really quite offensive…believe you me, Mark, I have a wild, biting wit and will often take a joke to the nth degree, but to imply that anyone would come here and conjure up a sob story—-other than at the obviously phony “April Fools” thread—- just for entertainment’s sake or to engender sympathy from other posters is no laughing matter and a leap I’m simply not prepared to make….Having said that, you are funny, too, so let’s concentrate on the lighter side of things in the future and stop speculating on the veracity of others, eh there, “Dude?”

Why yes, I did receive your email address awhile back, and I did jot it down, but honestly, I can’t even keep up with my inbox as it is, so I’m not disposed toward adding any new contacts right now, but you know what? I so wish that there were a private messaging (with mutual consent) option at this website, so that you, me and “Double C” could keep in touch in that manner….it would help us stay in line and on topic when it came to our posts here, too. Now THAT’S something for which I would pay! How about it Mr. Fairman? A new feature called “Fairman’s Friends….Where The Fun Never Ends!” By the way, Timmmbo, my last post (dated April 6th) that was added to that bizarro alternative reality/April Fools’ thread featured a special nod to our favorite inside joke topic…hope it tickled your feline fancy!

@Barbara….(Please forgive the incomplete send….that was not intended….I was only beginning to compose my reply to you before editing it….however, I guess I must continue as is)……praised my previous work. I let it slide, but was becoming increasingly aware of other posters who crossed this person the wrong way and ended up getting lambasted….I even called out one especially disturbing episode that involved a friend. (Not CeeCee….this preceded her situation.) At any rate, I still attempted to be cordial and carry on with this person. In the meantime, CeeCee hopped onboard and we subsequently became quick and fond acquaintances…soon after that, there came a most unfortunate incident concerning her that really brought this person to a whole new level of animosity regarding both CeeCee and myself. (I won’t bore you or anyone else with the specifics since that has already been done, ad nauseum….) At that moment, I publicly stated that I would no longer engage in discussion with that individual…and I never have directly responded to them again. Not once….all I wanted to do was avoid future dissention. Sadly, I was not granted that same courtesy, nor was CeeCee….we both received repeated nasty messages in our personal inboxes as well as regular online tongue-lashings for all to see. This went on for well over a year, usually related to one particular subject upon which there was vehement disagreement….in the meantime, any other poster who dared call out this person for their aggressive and uncalled for comments directed at one or both of us also received a most unpleasant upbraiding…..also a somewhat regular occurrence. As I have said, this was online for the reading, it is not heresay….during this entire scenario both CeeCee and I repeatedly and specifically asked for it to stop….to say this persistent brouhaha was embarrassing and unnecessary would be an understatement. However, it failed to cease….period, no matter how much we tried to ignore this person. Hence for anyone to interpret this so-called “feud” as something that either CeeCee or myself enjoyed or promoted is just patently false. If you only knew how many times we pleaded for an end to it, you would know that we are not drama queens, just two peaceable, outgoing chicks who really have become pals here along with a lovely group of other regulars. So, please do not think otherwise….since it simply would not be the truth. All we ever asked was for someone to make this bullying behavior directed at us to cease….and now, finally, I hope it will. I think a lot of this website and the vast majority of the people who visit it, and I don’t want to leave, nor do I think I should have to…whenever Mr. Fairman has given me directions as to changes he wished to be made, I did my best to comply….however, he is the only one that I have ever felt was the appropriate one to provide me—or anyone else—the guidelines as to what is permissible or not permissible to be said….it certainly was not the role of any fellow contributor. Now that he has done exactly that, I can only pray that this subject shall never have to be broached again, and that anyone and everyone who would like to participate here can feel free to do so without negative consequences from others. Finally, I apologize for the lengthy post(s) but I just wanted to say my piece and be done with it. Once again, Barbara, thank you for your generous words…..

Have you heard? Now I am some lunatic woman who posts pics of my daughter by stealing her identity. I think that’s what it says….jumbled. After a TV movie?? WOW!!!!! And, double LOL. How does one deal with obsession. Not worth it.
This site bespeaks of complete irony, Shay. Here is Mr. Fairman trying to take some control, advocating posters to stop bashing others; but, the beat goes on.
I think that the moderators should not post anything personal, anything offensive by posters to other posters or soap characters. Personal and character part most definitely includes myself. That is the only way to stop it.
But, the offensive posts directed at me keep coming. Why is that? And, they sound VERY familiar…..changing the style a bit. But I am sooooo familiar with THAT writing, it becomes very obvious in this person’s efforts to ‘degrade’ moi.
Thank you for posting, Shay. I was waiting. You always say it better than I ever could.

CeeCee…you’re doing it again! You simply cannot believe that more than one poster has a problem with you! How is it that when I was barraged by all the new names/people in an onslaught that you and Shay kept egging on…how is it I didn’t accuse YOU of creating all these other identities? Cause you know…I can think the same thing…maybe the handful of people who came out of nowhere are you…or your friends…or family? How do I know? LOL… But you insist on thinking when anyone criticizes you it’s one person using different names…you’ve insinuated this on so many posts…and yes…you’re instigating even by that insinuation.

There are people on this page who have said things to you that I’ve thought for a long time. About you bringing your personal life, from your “porcelain skin” to your knowledge of several languages to your expertise of Shakespeare to your playing several instruments to your family vacations, your husband’s profession, your parents profession to your dancing…on and on and on. This site is not the CeeCee hour. And as much as you love your repartee you don’t own or run the site. You’re one of many posters. If you’ve bonded with several, great! Nice. But stop with the clique mentality. I said it on the other page and I’ll say it again. Cut it out. And stop trying to rouse more animosity.

To reiterate…several OTHER people have pointed things out to you about you and your postings that I agree with. But unlike you I didn’t “thank them” for agreeing with me…I sat back and read the comments. It would only instigate and perpetuate further. Same thing with Shay. She goes into a soliloquy…none of which I agree with. I could respond to THAT…and round we’d go again.

Michael wrote this post and I for one thought it was fair, unbiased and professional. I didn’t go into a loooooong story as I seem to be doing now (I can only take so much when you and Shay go on and on with your crusade). All any of us had to do was thank Mr. Fairman, agree to his terms…and move on.

Michael Fairman knows by now who we are…particularly those of us who have been posting for a long time. He knows our views and our perspectives. When it reached ridiculous heights…he stepped in. All any of us had to do was respond and step back.

How many times have you now posted on this page? To defend yourself and rehash???? And by so doing antagoinzing again. He didn’t mention any of us by name here. He addressed the posters about the rules on HIS site. We can’t go back in time and undo what has been written..so to speak. Let it goooooooo……..

I would lovingly suggest that the uber-posters on here consider a brief sabbatical. Also, cigarettes have a warning and limits on advertising and now states provide quit-smoking assist as they do for lottery fans that have spent the rent. A help-line on-line for soap fans- perhaps sponsored by the networks that will allow these folks to spew their vitriol- get it all out- but they must also then listen to a licensed professional counselor and if necessary to switch to a sulfate-free lifestyle and to work out the penchant to incite and attack anonymously with perhaps knitting or have a cigarette even-something. If we all had to provide out drivers license in order to participate in these debates I wonder how that would change the landscape. Some of the “characters” I feel this much-needed and appreciated admonition -well in this thread they are and I do not want to have my heart strings tugged anymore as they have been pulled on and played like a violin and duped and deceived. Take a rest from this day and night. Every. Single. Day. Producers and Writers on here have been savagely eviscerated and any actor cast in a role that was not his or hers originally has a hit squad waiting. If you have sincere complaints why are not they sent via mail to the networks or in an email to the networks as if they are culling this site for your sage advice and despair than perhaps those budgets could afford a few more on-location scenes- as I don’t think they are here breathlessly awaiting how to be told to do their jobs. There were a small small few who came here and did not attack anyone but added such wit and laughter and advanced their own storylines for the shows and this was most certainly off-topic, I guess, but I found it so original and novel and laughed so much and I don’t feel they realized they were drawn into a battle they knew not of and then attacked and now gone and I will miss hearing from them-daily- as never did they do anything but poke fun and truthfully a few actors took pot shots from them as well and I see that can be very hurtful but do not believe that was their intent -it was to move beyond the boring and instead of complaining they offered new and whacked-out storylines without digging at the writers, either. Gay and controversial stories go nowhere I feel due to the machinery that attacks the minute a hint of this is revealed and it has been on here as well- sometimes subtle -often blatant and same with race and other issues. Shameful. I am not looking for agreement from anyone- I do not want to be on any side in this battle as there has been enough bloodshed and a call to peace has been made and I applaud that and again ask for a hiatus from a few as I am not sorry to say I cringe like at the know-it-all kid that always had to be the one to answer teacher’s question. Sit back for a few and try being an observer or get your own platform or as was suggested- your own lives as this has become an obsession and not healthy.

Dearest CeeCee….Ever gracious you are, mia amica! (Which is why you responded with thank you replies to all of these posts….I totally got that, whether others did or NOT!) But then we’ve always had an uncanny affinity since way back when, eh? I completely understand your decision to step it back a notch….when participating is no longer a fun and enjoyable experience, then really what is the point of it ? That was certainly my purpose for visiting here, and the fact that we made some very fine friendships in the process was merely a sweet–and unexpected— bonus…..nothing changes that notion. As long as we occasionally get to touch base every now and then, all will remain well. I’ll try to look you up at the other soap threads, even though they are not my thing…heck, even GH isn’t my thing more than half of the time, as you’ve no doubt realized since I often don’t remark upon many of the episodes….my interest tends to wane, depending upon the characters and storylines involved, and you know that far better than most!!!! LOL. At any rate, not unlike yourself, I found the suggestion that called into question our genuine gender and personal authenticity to be utterly cringeworthy…if that alone proved not to be a wake-up call as to the surreal nature of our situation, then nothing ever shall be! (Quite frankly, I still don’t know whether to laugh or cry over that one!) Having said that, through thick and thin, it was never anything less than a true pleasure conversing with you, CeeCeeGirl…I’ll miss these almost daily intellectual and humorous interactions that we have shared over the past few years, but of course, I wish you—-and your lovely family about whom I adored hearing—nothing but the absolute best. You take care and don’t be a stranger. Later, “Belissima!” Ciao……

    Mr. Fairman,

I said this before and I’ll repeat it, we fans are passionate about our soaps. Name calling and attacking actors is NOT acceptable. However, we all get riled up when one of our characters annoys us by not saying or doing what we think their character should do! A lot of people bad mouthed Tony Geary when he left. I dont know him and probably never will. I loved him for his character and his amazing skills as an actor. He left his job and said some things that fans didnt like. So what! To him it was a job. We all dont do what we love for a living and when its time to go, the proverbially middle finger goes up! I bet ANYONE who had a beef with Tony would shake in their boots if he were standing in front of them! I guess its like others say, you hid behind a name and say what you want BUT when you are face to face, different story? Thats my go home point. Pretend when you post here to be face to face. Talk, laugh, be angry but dont throw insults hiding behind a laptop and wait for others to be hurt or offended. I love this site and MOST people on here are first class humans. A couple, well, they wont steal my joy, I just dont react or respond to their hate. God bless everyone AND our FOUR soaps!

This is NOT high school and none of us really know who is posting nor their genders and the offenders are here and lining up their fans and much love and personal stories of loss that are certainly poignant- but I feel designed just for that effect- and there are agencies and counseling for people that are having a crisis and this is not the place to work out these problems- truth or fiction and we have people again speaking for others to add weight to their feelings which are based on words on an internet page- if you read this if it is posted and I am on the side of reality and not a love-fest for other posters in what again is all based on fiction until proved otherwise.

If there are others or just more characters who knows. But you may reign over this site with your fans as I am finished with this.

    Wayne replied

I respectfully disagree. Michael Fairman is a real person and Geoffrey-Martin Cyr. So what if we all had to post on here from a Facebook account? It does not require participation on Facebook and there are fake profiles on there as well, but it is, I think easier to discern actual individuals from fictional characters. Why should your statements regarding age, sex, children-etc., be accepted without question when they are used to lend authenticity? It seems fair to ask to leave out personal issues and when they are not then is it not fair to -as you call it “dissect” in an effort to get at the truth which would not have been done had not these points been entered for consideration repeatedly.

I call foul. Not nice to shut her down for her questioning- why is your word to be accepted at face value- you have brought up age, children, loss of children and how you are attacked on here and I ate it up with a spoon at first but New York City is not the only place where active campaigning is taking place, it seems and since we do not know that you are telling the truth nor I nor anyone- then it seems fair to leave children and families and so forth out of the mix whether to garner votes- and I do not care to win the popular vote on here nor anywhere else- just live and let live and not on a posting board.

    CeeCee replied

    @Rhonda.
I agree with what you say, Rhonda. No one knows if what we say is the truth. I judt am still confused about, ‘garnering votes’ or ‘agendas’ said by someone else. What would be the point?
No one is running for a position here. Nonetheless, your words are very fair, and I apprecate that.
I am very open with my feelings, so I should know better than to say what I feel on this platform.
People do not know me and I do not know them. Leave it to naivete, and nothing else.
As yourself, I need no affermation from anyone, albeit it could appear thus.
I am still learning, Rhonda, as it were. And, I do thank you for stating your point just the way you did, without ‘trashing’ me. I appreciate your respect.

    CeeCee replied

    Huh?

    CeeCee replied

    @Wayne.
To get at what truth? What is the truth? The truth is that posters are constantly insulted by a handful of other posters. That is a fact. It’s there for all to see in black and white.
By dissect, I meant, what is the point of delving into who is posting under a different name or not? It makes no difference, as we will never know.
I am sorry I did not make that clearer. My bad.
However, I do follow what you are saying…..absolutely makes sense. But, what does this have to do with bashing other posters? That has been my point all along. If you go back and read the longest site ever, I did not start the ‘rally’, but others did. Others that were insulted beside myself. I joined the conversation later, after it was said and done.
But, coming late into the conversation, I noticed that there it was…..myself, Shay and Timmm were indirectly inferred and referenced without cause. Not only that, a passel of other posters were lumped in, en masse, insulted by calling them psychologically unstable, among other names.
I did not introduce age, children, or psychological issues. Someone else did.
This is just a continuation of that.
Now, let me ask you….what does Mr. Cyr have to do with this? I certainly never mentioned his name. And, Mr Fairman is a real person; no argument from me.
I do not have a Facebook account, nor do I tweet. I will always maintain that that sort of thing is dangerous. I never realized these sites lend themselves to being perilous? I love my soaps. Forgive me if I occasionally insert a personal comment. It should not make any difference to anyone if what any of us say is true or not. Our personal ‘mutterings’ do not change the theme of storylines.
The only thing that matters are the soaps, and, our take on scenes, storylines and characters.
So, are you saying that being insulted by a handful of posters is permissible? Hands off characters but hands on posters? I hope I am wrong, Wayne…that I misread your point.
I have no clue who is fake or not….nor do I care.
I am sure many on these boards do post under various names.
I am tired, now. Good Night. Thanks for the chat….so fulfilling!!!!

  35. Jamesj75 says:

Mr. Fairman, I, too, thank you for your great site — and for your admonishments to the posters. Clearly, there is no room for cyber bullying, name calling, racism, homophobia, or sexism — anywhere but not at this site. Simple disagreements can be made without malice.

However, I think your remarks went a bit overboard. Obviously, this is your business and you can run it however you choose. I know that part of your job is to promote the soaps. I get that! But you can’t expect everyone to agree with everything on the TV screen and behind the scenes as reported. It seems you just want rosy post after rosy post in which conformity is the rule. But God forbid if people become repetitive or veer into negative territory.

I am personally guilty of going off topic, either responding to someone else in off-topic commentary or starting that off-topic commentary myself. A couple of my friends here know full well my allegiance to GH in the 1970s (early 1970s in particular, before Luke and Laura), so on occasion I have reminisced about what were for me the halcyon days of GH and how I bitterly regret and resent the route the show has taken in recent decades. It has been cathartic for me to have these exchanges and to be able to talk about things regarding the soaps that I most loved. I am very grateful to have had this forum to delve into these issues as well. We squeeze in these happy moments because they are not addressed in the daily message topics. Granted, I have also gone way off topic on occasion, and I apologize for those instances. But there should be room here for tangential (soap) discussions.

One other matter regarding attacks on characters/actors/writers, etc.: Wouldn’t it be great if everyone agreed with all the wonderful storylines and characters showcased by daytime TV? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all the actors nominated for Emmys were all deserving? Obviously, there are disagreements. If I am criticizing a character or storyline, it’s because I want a show to improve. I want to point out what’s not working — and often there is agreement on what’s not working — so that perhaps someone (even the powers that be) might get feedback and effect change. That’s often how business works: feedback from consumers can be the impetus for change.

Just look at Emmy nominees this year, or any year. I suspect we can all agree that some nominees don’t deserve their nomination or even win, and some great actors haven’t been nominated. A lot of that process is evidently political. But you can make the same charge with other subjective awards (for example, Oscars, Grammys, nighttime Emmys, etc). So your topic here on Emmy nominations naturally brings much dissension and, yes, even negative attacks on some actors. But that’s all part of the game, isn’t it? Isn’t that to be expected? Anytime a list of nominations is announced, there become a plethora of analyses and talk of “snubs.”

One lesson I have learned is that, while I might not like a particular character (actor), there are other fans here who do. By the same token, I wouldn’t want to read a comment that trashes my favorites. It might even make me feel uncomfortable. It might even inspire me to post a dissenting view. But I respect that others can disagree with me, and my psyche is okay with that. Differences of opinions are a necessity in life. Consensus gets things done, but differences must be addressed.

I would again thank you for this forum but respectfully suggest a little flexibility when it comes to repetitive posts and negative feedback. Regarding repetition, it’s clear that there is a delay from the time something is written to the time it is posted, so a poster might not have seen other similar posts. Yet, even if poster Z is saying the same thing said by posters A-Y, shouldn’t he or she have the same right to make the same point? More importantly, shouldn’t a diverse set of views be allowed, appreciated, and encouraged?

    Hi Jamesj75:

I think your take away from what I wrote needs some clarification:

I have never not allowed and have no issue with negative opinions/ comments if a poster: doesn’t like a character, a storyline, has a dissenting opinion from someone else who comments, their soap, a real life news event etc

I don’t think you have ever come here and see a “rosy glasses” only message threads. That is not reality.

BUT, I am simply requesting that everyone stop attacking one another, and stop using offensive remarks about human beings whether they are posters, fictional characters or real people. People can have a point of view, and write it up without spewing vitriol over my site and making it unpleasurable for the audience that comes here.

We can all have fun with the current news, characters, and the genre shows, etc, but it’s time many need to think a moment before posting and not make the comment section a complete wasteland. Fun, spirited, witty debate is great, trashing isn’t.

    Best,
    Michael

Yes, we love to give our opinions because WE CARE! We want our soaps to be the best they can be. When the writing is dark and/or misguided, we ache for our soaps to get back on track. So we opine, we cajole, and sometimes we complain. Yep, it is like the Captain took control of the ship again but in this thread it starts all over again. This has become an obsession and habit-not just daily but all-day every day and popularity contest in a contest where we do not know who is whom or real or fictional and the personal stories and all this to curry favor with other posters and possibly all the same poster man or woman or whatever – who really knows but as the soaps are real to some so are the names on here ad infinitum. Divorce announced yesterday and people taking sides and finding fault in what is not a tv story but very personal and most-likely painful life event and only public due to their tv jobs. No point in returning to the comments and to be fair to all would be great to just cut them off entirely and agree or not we don’t know who you are nor you I and the re-set was pressed yet the same cast is playing their dramas right here, once again. I will stick to the ones I like and chose to watch on tv and skip the comments section as this will continue to be a bizarre popularity contest with fans and haters who may all be one person. Give it a rest and if you agree with me or not- give it a rest, please. Spring is here. Get some fresh air and clear your heads in the real world with real people- it ain’t that bad.

It is always good to be reminded that as individuals we can always do better, be better, give others the benefit of the doubt and do not assume ill intent when none was intended. However I have found this site to be one of the most civilized on the web, so I am bit surprised to read about all this hostility that made this notice necessary. Of course I do not read every thread, or every comment and I am certainly not a moderator who has to read everything submitted so if it has gotten out of hand I will take your word for it but my experience has always been mainly positive which is why I have stayed here for four or five years.

But I do plea guilty of going off topic and I will do my best to stay on track. I have come to view some posters as friendly acquaintances and often will strike up personal conversation with them, like I would do with the cashier at my local grocer forgetting to those not involved those exchanges might be boring to read, I get that, but I will not apologize for developing friendly relationships with some posters yet I will do my best to stick to the business at hand– this is a website for soaps, not a chat room, message received.

Finally, I honestly long to live in a world filled with love, kindness and generosity of spirit. I believe there is far more goodness in this world than not. However, censorship is dangerous. I do not like hate, but I rather have the hate exposed for all to see than see it go into the shadows. When people stop saying what they really think and feel in fear of being banished or punished– when they start censoring themselves to say what they think the masses want to hear, rather than expose their real hearts, then that hate has a chance to grow and grow and will come out in other, more sinister, deadlier and hidden ways.

I rather know if the person I am voting for is racist than have them hide the fact and then finding out after I voted for them. I rather know my neighbor is homophobic than have them pretend to be okay with the gay couple next door when they are not. If I know they are homophobic then I have a chance to open a dialogue to try to change ideas and minds, but if it is hidden, never exposed to challenge then it might come out in nasty ways like them egging the gay’s couples home, etc. I am over weight, I rather you call me a whale to my face than give me dirty looks every time I put a piece a candy in mouth. I rather know what I am dealing with and censorship just gives evil another place to hide

I do understand there has to be a line drawn in a free society of what is acceptable or not in any given space. And censorship nobly tries to draws that line, but it doesn’t take much for that line to move and one day, somebody is telling you can’t speak out against racism, sexism, ageism, etc. Censorship is great when you believe are the right side of line, but if you ever find yourself on the wrong side of line then is a tool of oppression– it is a very fine line.

I mentioned Facebook posting and I want to offer that up once again- love a spirited debate and for all to have a voice- but I want that with people that are genuine and willing to put there name to their statements and will continue to enjoy this site for all the great news and interviews but the comments are overrun -seriously- as if this is a life and death battle to prove superiority or sway other posters or to bash them. Love a good back-and-forth-but with someone willing to stand by those statements with a name and face and that certainly seems to cut down on a good deal of vitriol. This site is for soap and tv fans-not to create a fan base and attack squad and bring in personal issues to bolster sympathy or to portray oneself in a certain light. Block me on Facebook if you do not like me or my face or whatever but seems fair to add facebook profile as level of reality-based postings from actual people. I see that brought up on here in this thread and then spit on. I think perhaps there are too many fake profiles on here and persons who rally around them when a convincing story is woven and here we have a soap opera best left to the pros on tv. How does one get anything done when they are camped out here all day posting? Call for veracity to facilitate genuine conversations. Thanks.

I rarely comment, but read them sometimes. Most of what you stated is understandable. However, part of leaving comments is to agree or disagree with said article or other comments regarding the article based on one’s opinion. Many times that is a negative opinion. A soap website can’t be all lollipops and rainbows. The content of the shows don’t allow this.
If only the characters of the soaps can be discussed and not the actors, directors, etc then the discussions will be incomplete. I am not talking about a bunch of dirty name calling. Many of the actors, crew, etc do perform poorly. So we not allowed to say that actor can’t act or director can’t direct? They must have you deep in their pockets. I hope it is at least a nice pair. Nonetheless, this is the first time I have read you cautioning posters to refrain from insulting other posters in print…perhaps, I missed it. Usually, it is the characters which we are admonished not to ‘attack’. So, it does the soul well to read this.
I have asked, many times, of one person, to stop the liberties taken upon my person, and others. It is very demoralizing to check my inbox, various times a day, only to find demeaning, to say the least, comments.
So, thank you for this. I am very verbal, but with a big heart…I appreciate you and your efforts more than you know. Not that it makes any difference to you, sir. Your sites do make many people happy….not only because of the soaps ( the most important ingredient, of course), but also giving us the opportunity to meet these wonderful people…..albeit faceless, I feel as if I have known them forever.
    Thank you.

I appreciate all that you do. This is my guilty pleasure each day, a way I can unwind from teaching, being a wife & mom, and being a caregiver to my dad.

This site offers news coverage plus a great community of people who share their thoughts. I don’t like insults, and I can only imagine the things you don’t approve for posting. Thank you for keeping the site what it should be – a great place to comment, discuss our soaps, and laugh.

    Mr. Fairman,

Thanks for trying to remove comments that just attack others. Sometimes I get so frustrated with Y&R and B&B story lines. These shows are supposed to be entertaining. We know the actors do not write their own stories. Yet, a few times a year, when I feel strongly about the stories, I just send emails directly to the writers and head writers at CBS and Sony with my opinions.

    Hey, Joan.
I have never noticed anyone attacking posters on Y&R. Everyone is very civil with each other. Did I miss something? I, among others do make remarks about the actors/actresses….I think we love the soaps so much, we get carried away defending one character by criticizing another.
I will certainly have more restraint from now on….if I am to continue to participate on the GH sites.
GH is the only soap, in my opinion, whose sites are riddled with posters bashing other posters, albeit most are very kind.
I think you have a point, and I may just follow your lead, Joan, by emailing the networks directly.
    Thanks.

Wow! I am new to this, only watch one soap — Young and the Restless. However, I am not necessarily new to that program.

Last night I reviewed the comments relevant to what Mr. Fairman asked some days ago regarding what one would suggest to make improvements in the programs we each select to view It was surprising in the comments that not much was focused onto the question. I had been thinking about the question and found it difficult to answer.

I knew, however, when this site was found, that those giving input seemed rather informed. I had become furious with the story lines. It felt as though the writers were sitting around their table wondering how much could be put over on the public (me), and I was feeling insulted.

Now I know that isn’t true. Budgets and the times have changed as have a lot of things. Without delving into what is more important, there were what may appear superficial happenings on screen (relative to Mr. Fairman’s first question) that work as an analogy and have affected the sense of quality on my Soap. Whoever commented on the changes in interiors and architecture was correct. The new ones look cheap.

It was mentioned that things had gotten too “dark.” There were too many new characters popping in, getting loved, and then dropped. There were comparisons to weekly programs, Public Broadcasting programs, and series offerings. Those considerations had run though my thoughts.

Knowing nothing about ratings, however, actually I was a Neilson household once, I watched the ads which really seemed to cover babies, kids, and the elderly.

Had I not seen this today, I might have presented my personal feelings.

It is always amazing how differently each of us sees things. For me, I got caught on Soaps due to one actor who caught my eye walking by the television. The genre pleased my fatigued senses after hours of numbers and research. I don’t know if the Soap is dying. For me, it is a relaxing sleep aide, thanks to recording, much better than pills.

I don’t think people want to belittle each other on the site, but it was probably a good thing too emphasize your concern. Thanks.

Michael Fairman. As some on this page have pointed out the very thing you are trying to eradicate is happening again on this very page. One poster is still placing blame, rehashing an unfortunate recent post that was explained, apologized for, which escalated, inspired a group mentality of unrelenting bashing…and still she goes on about it here over and over. Though this was the most recent carnage, there have been many posts by different posters toward other posters not even relevant to this latest though most unrelenting hostility.

So instead of rehashing it yet again, creatimg MORE hostility and antagonism, I respectfully request that you perhaps curtail this poster’s rehashing, inflammatory remarks which go against what your message is trying to accomplish. Thanks…

I am jumping ship. But not before noting that one of the most abusive posters on this site is glaringly absent from this thread. Here and posting but on other pages. I too, smell a rat here and I see others got a whiff too but were then choked out immediately. Many including myself have been somehow entangled in this web and new eyes on the case see the flaws- like new detectives on a cold case. As soon as they shined a light on a clue- they are taken out of the game- because they weren’t playing one, spoke truthfully and then got a knife in their backs and I am running before I am taken down. What has been so delicately queried in seeking what is going on or the truth or whatever. Two old queens- and now there are three, with me. Only I am not portraying myself as some ingenue or her clever sidekick. From the Hamptons, who has all the cliches but the Eve Arden of the pair or Steve Arden- quite amusing while the other is in some haughty victorian play -Betty Davis, he aint. Their nemesis on here is a piece of work too and the posts one after another where they are next to each other is like a rancid cucumber sandwich-certainly not served in the Hamptons. I am young, I lost a child, I had a child I was attacked. If a child was lost, perhaps had the poor tot been cared for while daddy as mommie clicked away on her keyboard dispensing standards for others, love and kisses and the death ray she fires – the fictional kid might have had a chance. Bad script, bad acting, bad behavior and with updates more often than traffic and weather.

    Hi Robert:

We hope not to lose you, or anyone. We just wanted to bring to the attention to the posters the “Personal” attacks on people. We love a good spirtied debate, negative or positive, on the soaps you watch, the performances, the writing, producing, whatever yuo wish to comment on.

Our goal here was to make people aware of the insults and verbal sparring between posters had gone way too far.

    Best,

Something has not seemed quite right, though my mind did not go where yours did- but well- even being on here now I am fearful- and I don’t scare easy-at least I thought so but this is a little frightening and I have been a fan of this site but am taking my leave as well before someone really gets hurt. I must say I wish of any posts responded to I wish Roland- who has no horse in this race and it is a race and campaign with just as many dirty tricks and nastiness- and then only in a campaign move is he responded to- not by Fairman- of whom he is obviously a fan and who called for peace and spilled his own guts on here relating to alcoholism and other personal issues- and not vying for anything whatsoever- deserved a hello. I know the guns will now take aim at me and I -well adios. I think you quite possibly are correct in your statement though perhaps the two are one and now one departs for the weekend so his alter may come in and mow down a few more and or return as another-sister or brother. And the champion for fictional characters stands ground on protecting these characters from hurt but can not will not stoop to an apology to real humans whom she attacked. I hope I can resist the temptation to return to see how I am destroyed- and in parting, what I take away is I will never interpret love and light in the same way and it is kind and inspiring and appreciated, but always now rather “shocking.” Sending love and light and withdrawing from the fight.

Excellent. I wish more sites would address this issue. I had a guy follow me around the internet looking for my comments and posting hateful, bullying comments. I don’t post often anymore ‘anywhere’. I enjoy reading the comments, even if I disagree, but I don’t enjoy reading the ‘attacks’ from posters who can be rude or hateful. Great going, Michael Fairman!

Oh Shay, as antagonistic and instigating as ever. I could let your twisting of words and intent slide like so many times before, but instead I ‘ll be specific. In my post to CeeCee, not you by the way, the comment about thanking other posters was not a general one or about being gracious. Many of us thank each other for comments of agreement WHEN it relates to our points of view regarding our stories and-or characters, we thank people for replying to our story related post. We typically don’t and shouldn’t thank someone when other posters are saying things about another poster in a derogatory way. A lot of us have had different opinions unfortunately…and didnt look to garner support from other posters by egging them on, “welcoming” them to join in”…as you do…like recruiting an army for your side, and thanking them when they made snide comments…as you do and continued to do on this thread.

On many threads, you made many wink wink inferences to the “poster” you didnt like. Each time you made a judgmental dig at an actress you’d then go on to add snide comments about this OTHER poster, gleefulthat you were aware that your comments would hit the same nerve over and over again. In a war of words, you don’t diffuse, you escalate and have done so since the Nina Ava baby debate of which you know what I’m referring.

Please keep your distance from me. Your “clever wit” is always an insult to someone, real or fictional, that doesn’t meet your approval.

And so, the moral(?) of this story, “boys and girls?” If one bullies long enough and hard enough, eventually some on the receiving end will grow so weary as to simply give up, whilst the “Queen Bee” goes on and on and on…..still shamelessly spreading her venom, always primed and ready for the next target who dares dissent with her condescendingly self-regarded superior views. (Most certainly to be continued…as this highly-ironic thread demonstrates.)

Boy, just spot-reading this thread is enough to make me want to stop coming here. Reading this has been exhausting. Such drama and carrying-on. This whole thing sounds silly. Anyone who is name-calling on a site like this is taking soaps WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. At this point in life I only watch GH and I am occasionally pissed at how a character is WRITTEN, or how a lifestyle – like the mob – is glorified, as in the writing of the character of Sonny. He shoots his own son – gets away with it. Murders AJ – gets away with it, etc. However I do read some comments wherein the viewer/poster speaks of soap characters as “real folks” who are making real conversations with others and acting out by choice…”Can’t believe Liz did that” “Why did so-and-so let Nicholas get away with that?” “When is Franco gonna get his?” This strikes me as odd. I hate the character of Sonny and all things Corinthos, but I don’t know nor do I have an opinion of Maurice Bernard. If someone is a lousy actor/actress, I think that’s fair game. GH has had a couple of folks through the years who should not have chosen acting as a way to make a living; however 99% of all criticism should be placed on the show’s writers and TPTB for the storyline, dialog and action. Remember these are characters set in a fictitious scenario, not real people and not friends and family; for us to bash each other over a soap opera comment is…well…very melodramatic! xoxox
