25 October 4th, 2014 Is A Revival Of TWIN PEAKS On The Way?

Courtesy/ABC

One reboot sadly down, Dallas.  But could another reboot be on its way up?  That is the big rumor and speculation that started on Friday when none other than Twin Peaks creators David Lynch and Mark Frost took to Twitter at relatively the same time and send out this tweet!

Lynch and Frost stated: “Dear Twitter Friends. That gum you like is going to come back in style. #damngoodcoffee” Upon examination of the tweet and those who followed the eerie, twisted, and oh-so-soapy drama of Twin Peaks, back in 1990 and 1991 on ABC, they know that”coffee” was an ongoing prop for FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), who said it over and over again about his favorite morning brew, which he takes black.

Adding more fuel to the speculation that a revival may be on the way is that the statement in the tweet that the “Gum you like …”  Those words can be seen in the vintage clip from the show after the jump!  Is it just a coincidence?  Or a giant tease?  Or in true Twin Peaks fashion, does it mean something?

Twin Peaks, told the strange story of a strange town and the murder of a teenage girl Laura Palmer.  Discussion of a reboot or continuation of the series,in one form or another have taken place over the years, but thus far nothing has happened.  Recently, the 25 year anniversary of the show, which is right around the corner, Blue-Ray DVD compilation of the series with extras was made available to the consumer.

And as Y&R fans know, Ray Wise who has been on the CBS daytime dram as Ian Ward played Leland Balmer/Killer BOB on Twin Peaks! He had mentioned in an interview with The Examiner back in January:  “David always said the town of “Twin Peaks” is still there; it’s still going on whether we watch it or not. So, who knows what’ll happen in the future? It would be 25 years later, not anything remade.”

So, what do you think?  Is Twin Peaks about to return?  Would you want it to come back? Check out the clip, then weigh-in below!

I totally agree with you about the beginning of Twin Peaks. The first season was must see tv. But, the second season was too confusing and all over the place. Don’t get me started with the prequel movie, Fire Walk with Me!

I am over the moon to know that there is at least one other person out there who gets it like I do with Peyton Place! I was not allowed to watch the original programme, but did watch the daytime version from 3 April 1972 until 4 January 1974…from beginning to end. My fascination with the complex characters in the small, quaint, New England town was then born! Surely some one out there could do this premiere night time/daytime soap justice! There are so many PP fans all round the entire world! Cheers for the reply jimh! Eden, Manchester, UK. X

I loved R.T.P.P. too and my favorite character was Betty played by Julie Parrish and was upset when Lynn Loring replaced her…its ashame about the newtworks wiping process…i read once that about only 5 episodes from the series is known to exsist!!! The original still has all its episodes…and 3 of its stars showed up in the daytime version: the actors who played Eliots father, Ada Jacks and Rita, Adas daugter…4get the actors names at the moment but gosh im still hoping for a revival!!!

Frank Ferguson was Eli Carson, Evelyn Scott was Ada Jacks and Patricia Morrow was Rita Jacks Harrington. I loved Julie Parrish as Betty and was not happy with Lynn Loring in the part. I have been searching years for those RTPP eppys and have heard about the wiping procedure which in my opinion was a crime. I have heard that there are those out there who actually have every eppy of the daytime version, and am still hoping to find them some where/some how.
About 20 years ago, I was finally able to see the original from start to finish! What a treat that was for me!
My favourite story lines of Return have to be Allison MacKenzie Tate’s murder trial and the events surrounding the birth of Peyton Harrington, Betty’s son by her ex, Steven Cord.
Any road, ta for sharing memories with me. It is always lovely to connect with another PP fan. Wish the outdoor set still existed. I would love to sit at the band stand and stick me head and hands in the pillory! Cheers jimh! X

Thanks for the name reminders(having my usually memory lapses with names of late …i just google RTPP and read the storyline synopsis and wondered what happen to some of the cast…sad to read that the actor who played Benny/Jason past away at a young age…wrote to the show back then and told them replacing Julie as Betty was a mistake…ironically, Betty(Barbara Parkins) was my favorite on the original as well…l loved that Allison/Benny/Jason storyline…there is a town in Mi called Dundee that resembles Peyton Place…they could film exterior shots there if they did a reboot…try google and you can see pictures of Dundee…i hope you are right that some have the entire series on tape…The Doctors was found to have all theirs…would love to see RTPP again…if im correct, wasnt the opening with Alison no.1(Kathy Glass) on the phone with her mother, saying ‘Mother, Im coming home.’ Something like that! Cheers back to you!!!

I am a Betty fan as well! I loved Barbara Larkin’s as well as Julie Parrish! I am also a huge fan of the character Selena Cross. I adore the late, beautiful Hope Lange who played the part in the film and was disappointed when I finally saw the original series….and there was no Selena! Margaret Mason as nurse Selena Cross Rossi on the daytime version was a favourite of mine as well.
I read recently that the character of Stella Chernak was a way for the night time version to bring in a character resembling Selena (her brother was even called Joe!). I also have read that there is a one hour pilot of the original series which has Selena in it! I would love to be able to see that.
I do remember Allison’s phone call to Constance, but have always remembered it as the cliff hanger eppy on that Friday of the first week. You could be correct! I know I had a huge crush on Benny Tate, Allison’s husband, and once did an audition for a summer job back then using the script from the scene where Allison shot him (Of course, it was JASON whom she murdered!)
Ta so much for the info about Dundee. You are correct! Perfect location for PP. I recently had a m8 who visited Maine and she posted snaps on Facebook. One of them was a perfect shot of a still from the opening of the film and of course my comment to her was…OMG! You are in Peyton Place…. How envious I was!
Always lovely to catch up with you jimh! Have a blessed and magical day. Cheers. X

Just as long as they don’t bring back Laura Palmer and say that her death never really happened.

And don’t even think about the twin/lookalike cousin avenue. They went there in the fall of 1990.

The only way Twin Peaks makes any sense is if you watch it stoned— or maybe it still doesn’t make sense but if you are high you don’t care– LOL.

Now THAT would be cool!!!! In the original, there was a segment with Agent Cooper 25 years into the future, so maybe that is where a reboot would pick up. I do believe most of the original actors are still alive, so it would be possible to update nearly all the characters, too. And what characters they were!!!!!!

Next i want The Edge Of Night reboot which was the best mystery/crime series ever…go to Edgehomepage.com and read the storyline synopsis from the 50s to the 80s…some years from the 60s is missing but its still interesting reading…thats if you havent already found it…with much of the show lost forever because of the networks wiping process, this is our only way of reliving those great moments…now i wish scripts, if available, of all soaps were used for synopsis’s online reading…so many that i miss!!!

Hey there, jimh! Thanks for bringing CeeCee, et al, up to speed on my “whereabouts,” LOL! (Been really busy, so my “sightings” were rare this past week….) As for “Edge,” I would love to see the entire last few years rerun…that would coincide with the appearances of that gorgeous guy, “Preacher” Emerson!!! Now that was a leading man with a capital “L!” (Sigh……) But I digress….this thread is supposed to be all about “Twin Peaks!” Loved, loved, loved that show! I still have my old VCR tapes of every episode stashed away somewhere, along with my “soundtrack” cassette and trading cards (I know, I know……the stuff we keep…..) so an updated version would be most welcome in my mind!….To this day, it still cracks me up just thinking of that scene when Agent Cooper and Sheriff Truman were vehemently warned by Pete Martell: “Hey fellas, DON’T drink THAT coffee….there was a FISH in the PERCOLATOR!!!!” My favorite TP moment of all time…hahaha!!!!

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

I loved TP first year…in a way with its mysteries it was kind of like a far out version of E.O.N and i terribly miss both…hoping for TP return!!!

Failed to mention: would like to see the actor who played ‘Preacher’ make a return to daytime…the last i seen of him he appeared on AW and later B&B…he was a great actor!!!

Charles Flohe/Grant also made many prime time guest appearances following those daytime roles, jimh….I would often catch him on various episodic programs, and it was always a kick. But that was well over a decade ago and then some….I once read that he has since left acting and gone into the financial services field…their gain is our loss!!!!

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

There is still a chance Charles could return to acting…loved Preacher and Jody(Lori L.) together…miss that show…i have the last 5 episodes on dvd and watch it over a few times a year…as always, i enjoy your comments!!!

Sounds like a nifty souvenir, jimh!!! Although it certainly would be a treat to watch those episodes again, I would probably get misty seeing my beloved Preacher …..he was soooo beautiful and a dead ringer for a real-life love!

I agree the first season was really compelling the second kind of confusing. Humm that sounds like American Horror Story.

But maybe this means that it will be coming on one of those retro channels.. I think this show was ahead of its time. Back to AHS, Bates Motel, and some of those shows that I have never seen Grimm, Game of Toilets, Once Upon a Time etc…

If the schlocky ‘American Horror Story’ can be a success, surely there is an audience for the much more nuanced and original ‘Twin Peaks.’ May work best as an 8-episode season show on Netflix or Amazon.
