In news that was imminent, and a sad one for long time fans of Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital, Jason Thompson announced Friday on Instagram he is leaving the ABC soap opera.
Thompson, who has received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations during his time on GH, but who has languished without front burner story for awhile now, related this heartfelt message to his fans, his colleagues, and the network.
Jason Thompson: “I’ve made the difficult decision to bid farewell to a character I’ve loved playing for over 10 years. It was not an easy decision but I feel like it’s time to hang up Dr. Patrick Drake’s white coat and scrubs. I want to thank Frank Valentini, Vicki Dummer, and Paul Lee for their support and appreciate their understanding. To everyone at ABC, the General Hospital crew, producers, writers, directors, my beloved cast mates and those in my home away from home, the make-up room, I can’t possibly tell you what you mean to me. Most importantly, I would like to thank the fans. General Hospital has changed my life and I want to thank you for that. I am forever grateful for your love and support and for embracing me and this character all these years. I mean these words from the bottom of my heart: GH is family to me, and I will miss you all dearly.”
With Kimberly McCullough returning as Robin in November, could this be Thompson’s exit storyline? Will Scrubs reunite? What will happen to the character of Dr. Drake? And as for Thompson, is he headed to The Young and the Restless? Many questions to be answered.
