On the heels of Fox’s hit primetime soap drama Empire that mixes music with melodrama, and ABC’s Music City soapy drama Nashville, comes news that NBC has their own nighttime soap with musical elements in development simply called Talent.

The series has brought together none other than Prospect Park’s Jeff Kwatinetz. who has relaunched his company back to The Firm which is a full production and management organization, and ex- pop star turned producer, Shaun Cassidy.

Talent is described by Deadline as, “A family soap that centers around a music prodigy who has a unique way of dealing with the murder of his one true love.”

Universal TV, where Cassidy is under an overall deal, is the studio. Cassidy executive produces with The Firm’s Kwatinetz and head of TV Josh Barry.  Shaun Cassidy and Jeff Kwatinetz had worked together previously on the 2012 western drama pilot Frontiers for NBC.

As soap fans know, Prospect Park’s portfolio includes WGN America’s Salem and USA’s Royal Pains. The company also produced the online versions for one season of All My Children and One Life to Live. The management operations of Prospect Park have moved to The Firm, so all existing television projects will remain under the Prospect Park umbrella.

What do you think about the concept of the primetime soap in development from Kwatinetz and Cassidy called Talent?  Do you think it can be a hit?  Who would you like to see in this soapy music drama? Comment below!

I WILL NOT WATCH ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM PROSPECT PARK, THEY ARE HOLDING OUR SOAPS HOSTAGE WITH THE ONGOING THE LAWSUIT. THEY OWE MONEY TO THE CAST AND CREW TO BOTH SOAPS, THEY OWE MONEY TO THEIR SPONSERS AND ADVERTISERS, THEY OWE HULU AND ABC MONEY AS WELL. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME UP WITH ANYTHING NEW, THEY SHOULD BE BEHIND BARS FOR FRAUD.

Hey Trevor, just curious. How do you know about this stuff for Prospect Park? What is Prospect Park? Is a production company? I think I’ve seen someone mention this before, but really get what they were talking about.

I understand your frustration and it’s terrible that folks are getting paid their due. It also seems like they’ll never get paid if those who owe aren’t allowed an avenue to make the money it will take to get those folks paid.

I agree, PROSPECT PARK totally screwed up All My Children and One Life to Live for the fans. They left fans (and actors) high and dry with no closure, no ending show, no nothing.
Of course, ABC-TV execs can also go jump in a lake because they were the first ones to let these two iconic shows go. They did not even consider trimming the shows down to a half hour or combining the shows into one (which is what they should have at least attempted).
When PROSPECT PARK took the shows over, they were unsteady inceptions but they were slowly finding their footing. First we got four shows a week, then we got two shows a week, with a stupid “wrap up” “More” show on Friday which stunk to the high heavens. Then, suddenly, NO shows, and a yearning for a Season Two that never happened, no statement, no apology, not even a vague explanation was offered by PP.
So, no — I have no interest in what they have to offer while die hard fans of ONE LIFE TO LIVE and ALL MY CHILDREN are still in limbo. I realize that it’s a lost cause at this point to still be hopeful that our great shows will ever see the light of day again, but I’ll be darned if I’m going to be a cheerleader for Prospect Park.

You are right. I doubt she would want to leave an establish hit to take a chance on a show that might get canceled.

Im VERY dubious of anything Jeff touches, and Shaun hasnt proved to be a winner in years and years.

    you gotta be kidding, yes..

    Jeff Kwatinetz–
” Kwatinetz and The Firm entered into film and television management, started a record label, and went on to become significant producers of television and feature films. They managed the industry’s premier list of actors, directors and writers and went on to produce successful films doing over $500 million world-wide box office. Firm bands sold more than 500 million records worldwide and Firm clients grossed more than $20 billion at worldwide box offices, had 30 Academy Awards nominations and took home seven Oscars. To date..
    ((that is with B, billion)

”Kwatinetz also conceived and was the key architect of one of the music industry’s most historic and successful deals – the 2004 purchase of Warner Music from Time Warner by a private equity consortium led by Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital. The deal quickly resulted in more than a $1 billion profit for investors and The Firm received a $15 million compensation package for Kwatinetz’ M&A work.”
    (that is one billion profit)

”Kwatinetz’ contributions to the field of media led to an appointment in 2007 as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Northwestern University, to teach a graduate-level course annually entitled, “Developing and Marketing of Entertainment Content.”
Kwatinetz graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor in 1991, and holds both a master’s degree and B.S. in communications from Northwestern University.”

”Jeff Kwatinetz is executive producer of the new USA Network original series Royal Pains 7 seasons going strong and my fav Salem 3 seasons going strong ..

And lets address all the actors on the rebooted OLTL and AMC who toiled for him and didnt get paid. Yeah, really successful!!!

    su0000 replied

PP had other assists/monies to pay off actors debts, I’d imagine..
the AMC and OLTL actors very likely were paid, they had to wait for the bankruptcy to be handled.

” bankruptcy courts treat the employees of an insolvent business as members of its class of secured creditors. This practice is called “prioritization” and has been upheld in court. Provided that the business has sufficient cash or assets at the time of its bankruptcy filing, prioritization entitles the employees of a bankrupt business to full reimbursement of back wages.”

it all how the wheel turns..

I would to see Matthew Atkinson as a regular part of this night time drama. He is a wonderful actor and needs a place where he can shine as an actor. Something he can sink his acting chops into and stretch his wings. I don’t know about his singing but he can play guitar and drums.

Won’t be watching. Jeff Kwatinetz and management team is keeping All My Children and One Life to Live in legal limbo. Just because they could not successfully produce the shows, they go after the big pocket at ABC.

    ABC has it all back..
It’s no longer in PP hands ..

PP filed bankruptcy. PP was to pay huge fees annually to ABC to keep leasing the shows/characters, they let it go.

Rights to AMC and OLTL are still in limbo due to bankruptcy and PP’s 95 million dollar lawsuit against ABC. PP is blaming their failure on ABC.

Right on, Jeff Kwatinetz and Prospect Park owe an explanation (at the very least!) to the faithful viewers whom they took on a horrendous emotional Roller coaster ride that rivaled ANY soap opera storyline anyone could POSSIBLY come up with!!
