34 February 13th, 2013 Jeff Probst Talk Show Canceled! Probst Says,”I’m Super Bummed But Extremely Proud!”

Courtesy/CBS

One more talker down, soap fans! After The Ricki Lake Show failed to get a second season, news today from CBS Television Distribution is as expected, The Jeff Probst Show has gone down too!

The Survivor host who attempted to make his talk show an adventure island on to itself, stated about his series cancellation,” “I’m super bummed but extremely proud.  The truth is all shows come to an end.  Ours just ended a decade sooner than we had hoped.”

CBS Television studios issued this statement, “We believe Jeff is an incredible talent, and that he and his dedicated producing team delivered quality episodes throughout the season. Unfortunately, the audience isn’t there to support a second year. We are grateful to the entire staff, our affiliate partners and advertisers for their ongoing support of The Jeff Probst Show. Production and broadcast of original episodes will continue through the current season.”

So soapers, wonder why “the audience isn’t there to support a second year?”  Looks like as of now, the only new talker to get a second season is Katie Couric’s Katie! What are your thoughts on Jeff Probst’s show being canceled?  Weigh-in!

Maybe if he stopped using phrases like “super bummed” and tried some actual intelligent conversation for a man his age, his show would still be on.

No way can Jeff Probst be even half as dumb as he appears. It’s not possible, is it??

Maybe the network execs will FINALLY realize that daytime dramas are still what the viewing audience wants. I, for one, couldn’t be happier. Now, can we get rid of Katie? Please!

I have been watching the Jeff Probst Show. I like the change when they added Lisa Whelchel as a co-host and when they had Valerie Harper on as a guest, it was the best show I’ve seen. Sorry to see it go.

Lisa Whelchel impressed me on Surivior…. She made the top 3…. made it thru to the finals…

say what one will….. but, when you’re a STAR from a young age… and persevere… that staying power… is much to do…. To act all your life… so it seems….

I actually was happy for her… this past year…. i actually thought she had a chance of winning…. had one of the voting cast offs not “outed” her, for being a “former” STAR on Facts of Life.

Lisa herself… said… she’s not rich…. due to bad investments…. and you hear about these things happening….

all in all…. it’s tough for people wanting a come back… still wanting that STAR.

I liked her all over again.

it’s great that daytime talks shows of jeff probst and anderson cooper are getting axed. they have no charm and charisma w/c a daytime talk show host needs. people have had enough already w/ all of these daytime talk shows w/ white only central hosts and tv shows w/ majority white only leading chars. people are rejecting shows from untalented anderson cooper and probst bec there’s no racial diversity. these idiotic shows from hollywood keep recycling the same white actors and personalities. it’s not only daytime talk shows w/ white only central hosts that are flopping. primetime tv shows w/ majority white actors are flopping and should be axed like probst and cooper’s failed talk shows! 1600 penn has a white president and flotus w/ flopping ratings! could they not have cast latinos? medical drama “do no harm” has been axed after 2 episodes! it has a white lead bec it’s a medical drama. typical hollywood uses a white lead and yet Asian americans are prominent among the medical
profession. every medical drama has to have white leading chars. it’s great that people rejected “do no harm” and its lack of racial diversity for its leading char didn’t help that failed medical drama. primetime soap “smash” hit new ratings lows after returning w/ a very whitewashed cast. it got rid of racial minorities ellis and dev who is the Indian bf of katherine mcphee’s char while retaining her other romantic partner derek who is white. “new normal” is full of racist jokes and bashes religious beliefs and it has shed half its 18-49 demo while flopping w/ its total ratings! “deception” has a female black lead but its writers have spoken abt how they refuse to even acknowledge race and gender and class issues and this soap w/ victor garber is flopping! all these racist tv shows are being
rejected by the audience! it’s the same thing w/ cable. people are rejecting racism from cable tv shows w/c should be more bold and yet still have problematic racial representations. hbo’s “girls” is whitewashed but mainstream manhattan media and hollywood keep proclaiming how “talented” lena dunham is and yet she only writes for a cast full of white chars. hollywood and the mainstream manhattan media keep saying how “successful” and “popular” hbo’s girls is and yet its episodes ratings are lower than a million viewers! it’s completely delusional from hollywood bec they want a white woman like dunham to be accepted as “the voice of a generation” even if she whitewashes her ny based tv show. the next thing that delusional media and racist hollywood are going to be proclaiming is that dunham should be considered pretty. gigglesnort. but of course the manhattan media and hollywood won’t talk abt dunham’s blatant racism from her article towards japanese people bec bashing Asian americans is acceptable from hollywood and the mainstream media. it’s great that all these shows full of white only leading chars and white only central hosts are flopping and getting axed!

even this potential GAY comedy soap from “ground breaking” HBO is already being rejected and getting bad publicity bec of its racist casting! hbo’s lgbt answer to “girls” is already under fire for its racist casting. hbo’s developing a comedy soap based on gay men from san francisco. openly gay actor jonathan groff was cast and of course he’s the lead bec he’s white. of course his char is wealthy. he’s a successful video game developer w/ an unsuccessful romantic life! sniffles. typical of hollywood’s racism and white privilege. it’s all abt status for the lgbt community. hollywood has to portray the wealthy lgbt chars as white even if gallup has already reported the low economic status of the lgbt community. while hbo cast frankie alvarez who is a very light skinned person of color bec light skinned racial minorities are the racial minorities that hollywood prefers.
he has to be light skinned bec hollywood’s standards of beauty have to be
defined by whiteness. the char of alvarez is not successful at
business unlike the white leading char portrayed by groff! the char of alvarez is an artist’s assistant! of course he has to be poorer than the leading char who is rich and white! of course the racial minority has to be from a lower economic status compared to the white char. the racial minority must be poorer than the white gay char! it’s abt status and white privilege and racism from tolerant hollywood bec hollywood’s goal is that whiteness myst be idealized by the culture. hilarious! this potential hbo show is already getting criticized for its rich white lead and it potentially having few chars of color bec ny based “girls” is full of white women only.
that’s hollywood. white women are “universal” for all women much like white gay chars are “universal” for the lgbt community. this hbo show should flop and get lower ratings than “girls” w/c doesn’t even get 1 million per episode! majority of tv shows have white leading chars. this gay comedy soap has a white male as the lead who of course is rich. how “ground breaking” for hollywood and hbo right? the backlash to racial representations from this potential gay comedy soap is a great stride for racial minorities!

I agree with you to a point. i wouldnt mind some diversity in our shows, especially asian characters. OLTL may have not featured asians as regulars but it was the most diverse show on tv. Did you watch that? Over the years it featured characters that were jewish, black, latino, and most recently an Indian family named the Patels. No other show has used more diversity than this. Meanwhile i see no problem with a gay comedy with a white male lead. And if this lena wants to write a show only about whites i see no problem here. When Living Single was on did you complain about it being only about a group of black women? Y is it ok when its about all blacks but not ok when its all white? When a black teen is murdered by a white person somone screams racism but when a black kills a white you rarely hear that same person cry racism. Why is that? African Americans can have their own named channel, a black beauty pagent, a black college fund but if whites did the same its called racism. I know Hollywood hasnt honestly featured minorities with postive roll models over the years and the process to change that is slow. Now there have been some great shows ive enjoyed over the years with blacks as the leads, and with some ethnic characters in the cast. I even watched the short- lived asian comedy All American Girl. ILL watch anything i think i is good whether its all black, all white, or loaded with diversity. But to fight racism, you cant be just one sided. In my life racism comes in many shapes and forms, and not just limited to the color of ones skin. Young discriminated against the old, and some vice versa. Skinny and fat racism. Religious people have dealt with racist remarks. ect. But to fight against racism on tv, you simply dont watch that show that offends you, write to the show, complain to the network ect. Maybe when we learn to stop being one sided when it comes to racism, and deal with it, maybe Hollywood will get serious and wake up too.

p.s. cancelled serious isnt exactly because they lack etnic characters, its because they just arnt well written or something better is opposite. Low ratings on HBO shows for the same reason plus some of us dont want that extra expense to watch when our cable bill are already too big. If it is about lack of diversity then maybe people are taking my advice not to watch which is the best way to protest shows you dont like 4 whatever reason.

to jim: you don’t think there’s a problem w/ hbo’s potential gay comedy to have a white lead that is rich while the racial minority they cast has to of course be poorer? not a single tv show from tolerant hollywood has leading asian american chars. even medical dramas refuse to have Asian american leading chars. yet hollywood has tons of leading and supporting lgbt chars and lgbt personalities where majority if not all of them are white from those lgbt tv shows. revenge. new normal. glee. mf. ahs. partners. person of interest. queer as folk. queer as folk uk. ellen degeneres talk show. anderson cooper talk show. the talk. gh. the l word. the real l word. girls who like boys who like boys. girls who like boys who like boys nashville. whit collar. political animals. pretty little liars. desperate housewives. watch what happens live w/ andy cohen. pretty much every bravo reality tv show. community. gcb. enlightened. mad men. grey’s anatomy. scandal. carrie diaries. emily owens. ringer. downton abbey. eastsiders. amc. b&b. days. majority if not all of these tv shows have lgbt leading chars and personalities who are white. it’s even worse w/ shows like “girls” w/c are ny based. how many shows that are ny based have been whitewashed w/ sitcoms like “how i met your mother” and w/ 60s dramas like mad men w/c began the horrid trend of creating period piece dramas w/c rely on “realism” to hire only white actors for authenticity of racial segregation back then. these are not problems bec of white privilege. the white audience feels like there’s no problem w/ these representations. white chars are being represented too much w/c is not beneficial to racial minority actors and actresses bec it’s limiting their employment opportunities while not adequately representing racial minorities. hollywood keeps lecturing people on their beliefs and yet this is “tolerance” from racist hollywood. it’s worse for Asian americans bec hollywood loves to whitewash Asian american actors. gosselaar from saved by the bell is the lead actor from franklin and bash. he’s part asian. but of course his char has to be white only. hollywood keeps campaigning against lgbt discrimination and gay bullying while bashing asian americans. typical from the delusional “tolerance” crowd of hollywood. it clearly is a problem when people like you still think it’s acceptable to have the white leading char be rich while the racial minority char is poor on hbo’s potential gay comedy soap. it clearly is still a problem when people like you think it’s acceptable to have white only chars on “girl”s w/c is ny based. putting racial issues aside and think abt this. is it really necessary for these shows to have white only chars when they are clearly too many tv shows w/ white only chars? of course not. it’s bec hollywood is clearly racist and against more racial minority representation.

I didn’t watch it everyday and it wasn’t a must-miss show, but Jeff seems nice and his talk show was one of the better ones on TV. I looked forward to seeing it before the now-poorly-written DAYS. Now it’s been cancelled, which is sad. I’m not tuning in for DAYS either, as it’s a mess right now. I’m just glad that DAYS was renewed through summer 2014, so I don’t have to feel bad about just reading the recaps and not watching.

In any event more talk shows will air this fall to take its place. Most will last one year. Talk shows are inexpensive compared to a soap.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jeff Probst Show! I DVR it and watch it every day. I’ve been frustrated because its time slot where I live is one that keeps getting cut into for “Breaking News” stories and I miss the guests I wanted to see. I love the show’s originality, the transparency of the production, and most of all, Jeff Probst himself. He is very good-looking, but more importantly, he comes across as completely genuine and honest. I love the unscripted nature of his conversations. I have enjoyed the variety of things the show has tried to keep it fresh. The guests are great, often inspiring, and the co-host idea has worked well. The only other daytime talk show I watch is the Anderson Cooper show but I like Jeff Probst even more. I am very disappointed that both shows have been cancelled. Once The Jeff Probst Show is gone, I’ll be reading more; I don’t watch soaps. I hope Jeff Probst can launch another show in which his charismatic, humorous, open, fun, and engaging personality can be highlighted (Survivor is great but Jeff Probst’s talent is wasted in his limited role as host). I also enjoyed the involvement and interaction of Jeff’s wife and crew members in the show. I wish there were a place or way I could vote for the “powers that be” to reconsider and KEEP The Jeff Probst Show!!!!!!!

Like Jeff, I am super bummed about the decision to cancel his show. I absolutely loved the show and with the new co-hosting format with Yvette Nicole Brown…well, I personally think they have AMAZING CHEMISTRY!! I love how they play off each other and add different perspectives to the varying topics.

Quite honestly, I don’t think 1 year is enough time to guage the true success of a show as it often takes time to build up viewership. So if there is any way that some pencil pushing executive could be convinced to be patient and give it some additional time, I think it would surely get to the desired level. Let’s face it…did anyone expect him to be Oprah Winfrey over night? Even she took some time to build up her audience and support of the show. Maybe they could have tried putting the show in a different time slot (maybe later in the day when more people might be home to watch it).

This is the only talk show that I watch with any degree of regularity so I am just so disappointed. I think Jeff is an amazing and engaging host and again, with the added element of the new co-host, I just love her outlook and the relatable factor. And I must admit that I enjoy the guests and the topics that Jeff has chosen as some of the other talk shows seem to go for the sensationalism. I for one am not down for yet another Jerry Springer show. Choosing guests such as the first woman he had on his show that had cancer…INCREDIBLE STORY!!! I like it that there are topics such as this and then every once in awhile you get the celebrity type interview. It is just a refreshing and perfectly balanced mix of topics and guests.

So please…DO NOT TAKE THIS SHOW OFF THE AIR!! I seriously hate to see what they might come up with to fill the time slot because some of the new shows that are on TV are a serious waste of time and not at all entertaining!!

This show may not be the most tintellating but admist all the talk shows constantly going on about patertinty tests and cheating mates it was kind of nice to see something light hearted and fun. They had their times where they went into in depth topics like I remember watching this because the episode I came across discussing near death or even after death expirences. I love how your not sure what your going to get with this show. I find it a breath of fresh air how they are always so kind and show grattitude to their audience, guests and even staff for everything they do. Lets not forget the fun and games, literally giving a small but fun burst admist whatever the show may be discussing.
I would be lieing if I said this show was perfect and had nothing to work on or change but I would also be lieing if I didn’t say I think it is a gem. I mean even the often mention of Pete seems to catch some laughs. I think if they had been given another year to continue and improve I think they would have come up with something that would have gained even more viewers but alas it was not meant to be. Perhaps it just goes to show that unless you are discussing paternity issues cheating spouses or terrible life circumstances then your just not cut out to run a talk show.
Sad to see that light hearted and inspirational stories don’t have more of a place on our teliviosn screens. ((please excuse spelling mistakes don’t have access to my spell check right now lol))
