6 June 28th, 2011 Jeff Probst to have own daytime talk show on CBS!

Looks like talk shows are multiplying to fill the void from departing mainstay gabfests, and to cut down daytime’s cost, which continues to spell more bad news for the remaining soap operas.  Monday, CBS announced that Survivor host, Jeff Probst will be launching his own talk show in the fall of 2012!

According to EW.com, Probst, who was a contender to replace Regis Philbin with Regis and Kelly Live has now gotten his own solo slot.  Probst stated, “I’m fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level.”

Probst’s new show will debut around the same time as his former CBS stablemate Katie Couric’s, who has her new show set for launch on September 2012 on ABC.

    Just what we need – yet Another freakin talk show – UGH!
    If all the Networks care about is how cheap a show is during daytime -
    why not just have a test pattern between 9:00AM and 5:00PM?
    that would be real cheap and far more interesting than a talk show -
    they might as well because when the last Soap is gone,
    I will be done with Daytime TV.

    Exactly what I was going to say. Except for their remaining two soaps, which no doubt one will be gone to make time for this talk show, CBS has nothing but talk shows on day time now. Oh, forgot, and two dumb game shows, one which took Guiding Light’s place. Who is going to watch talk shows all day long? Not me and I bet a lot of other soap fans won’t either.

    Soaps were always a way for me to escape into a world of make believe. I really don’t want to watch people with real problems discussing them on daytime TV. Where is the fun in getting behind and rooting for your favorite character or couple? Or talking with others via message boards about how good/bad the current story line of the show is. I think putting on all these talk shows, judge shows, etc, plays into the hands of boredom and quiet, as no one will be talking about them. Frankly I like the test pattern comment above as a better solution to what Daytime executives are planning.

    Well Univision has no shortage on soaps and they are good. Instead of getting into General hospital i’ve been watching Zacatillo which airs at the same time. My spanish isn’t hat good but i understand enough to be entertained.
