This past week, General Hospital fans had to say their final goodbye to actor Jeffrey Vincent Parise who’s last episode aired on Thursday as Ghost Carlos. Over the last few weeks, Parise turned in powerful performances during the GH Live shows where mobster Carlos Rivera says goodbye to his long time love Sabrina Santiago, before being shot and killed by Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) for murdering her beloved Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan)! Later, Carlos comes back as a ghost and torments Anna, who is guilt ridden for shooting the mobster in cold blood to avenge Duke’s death.
On this past Thursday’s episode of TradioV’s Soap Box with Lilly Melgar and Martha Madison, Parise joined the hosts to discuss his final GH moments, revealed he was originally up for the role of Julian Jerome played by William deVry, and his pivotal role in the series finale of the hit primetime series Mad Men, in which he uttered the final line as the lauded drama came to its conclusion.
On-Air On-Soaps Michael Fairman joined Parise, Madison, and Melgar later in the episode to discuss the latest news in the world of soaps, weighed in on the GH Live shows and the just completed May Sweeps storylines on all four network daytime drama series. Below are a few noteworthy moments from Parise’s appearance!
Jeffrey on his final scene with Teresa Castillo as Carlos and Sabrina: “Teresa Castillo in the scene we just watched broke my heart, and especially when I hung up with her, and Finola as Anna is asking her, ‘Where is he?’ It literally broke my heart … the resistance in her saying “Pier 54″, what a moment! I knew this was thee last scene with her (Teresa) and I, and all the incredible scenes and moments we had shared within the acting experience of the past two years was going to be gone. ”
Jeffrey on being up for the role of Julian Jerome on GH: “Originally, I tested for the role of Julian Jerome. Funnily enough at the time I didn’t think I was right for the part- they were calling for basically Will deVry – a blue collar business man gangster, but I loved the material. Then when I tested I tested with Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), it felt really good, immediately. So, apparently it came down between me and Will. Then, when they ended up going with Will- then a couple of months later they called me and said, ‘We really liked the test, but you just weren’t right for the part. But … we wrote a part for you and we would love for you to come in and play it.”
