On-Air On-Soaps favorite soap actress of all-time, Judith Light came in at number six on the list of the 50 Greatest Soap Actresses of All Time, in We Love Soaps countdown released today. Light, gave the single most memorable performance in daytime history with her portrayal of the hooker with the heart of gold, Karen Wolek, on One Life to Live, when she took the witness stand in the infamous Marco Dane murder trial to save her friend Viki. To this day critics and fans still agree that it was one of the most riveting moments in soap opera history.
Light won two Daytime Emmys for Lead Actress in back to back wins in 1980 and 81. Watch Karen videos after the jump.
Celebrated soap journalist Mimi Torchin ( who voted on the panel) summed it up best. “No one who ever saw Judith’s work as the long-suffering Karen Wolek is likely to forget it, especially her Llanview-shaking admission on the witness stand that she was a prostitute. Daytime’s rafters shook. Light went on to prime time and film fame, but this Emmy-winning actress never shunned her daytime roots, always acknowledging where she began with pride and grace. Judith’s outspokenness and her support of AID’s research and gay rights before it was fashionable shows that she isn’t only a brilliant actress, but she’s also a woman of substance.”
