62 February 12th, 2013 Julia Barr To Return For Prospect Park’s All My Children!

Courtesy/ABC

Everyone has been asking for Julia Barr! And now it appears from news today via Jordi Vilasuso’s (Griffin, AMC) Paos Revolution Twitter feed that Julia and her role of the beloved Brooke English are coming home to Pine Valley Online!

According to the Tweet it stated:  “We are thrilled to share that not only will fans see @Susan_Lucci at the start of the #AMC relaunch but also David Canary and Julia Barr!”

Now while no official announcement has been made from Prospect Park on Lucci, Canary and Barr, it would make sense for Barr to be a part of the reboot of AMC, since she is based on the east coast, and with the news that Canary is said to be appearing on the series in an ongoing basis! But will Julia just be around to kick off the series? Or, will it be more long-term?

So soapers, happy with the news of Julia coming to AMC?  Let us know!

The news keeps getting better and better. Hope she stays. We need someone there with ties to the Tyler family. We missed you Julia. Speaking of the Tylers, whatever happened to former Tyler chauffer Benny Sago and the two actors that played him?

    Mary J Ellen replied

I saw the last Benny playing a waiter on HOME IMPROVEMENT……of course that was quite a while ago…..haven’t seen him since. Maybe he would be available……but then we would need THE DUTCHESS! LOL!

I miss the late Ruth Warrick as Phoebe and would like to see Julia as Brooke take her place and move in the old Tyler mansion with or without Adam. Like it David Canary is returning for some episodes.

I think they will be more like ”appearances” and not term contracted..
It just seems sorta too good for PP to get them back when they did retire by the end of AMC..
I hope they will be contracted but ……………..
Have to wait for the details ..

    BrookenAdamChandler replied

They didn’t ‘retire.’ They came back for a shortened time due to PP ironically. Julia was ready to stay full time back in 2010. David only left because he objected to the locale not the work. His ‘retirement’ was his nice way of bowing out of having to stay in LA which he’s never liked. Has worked pretty steadily since his ‘retirement’ when he quit AMC done in LA.

She is great, love her in the role of Brooke…but I just have this strange feeling that they are using these big names to initially attract viewers, and then head towards a more teen oriented show. I hope not, but that’s my gut feeling – I want Brooke to have her own storyline, not just make a “guest appearance” in Pine Valley. I mean, I guess we should be grateful, never thought this would even be a reality. I think those of us who are a little older will always remember the glory days of “All My Children” but I am still happy that the show will be back in SOME kind of way.

    Mitchell1660 replied

Those “glory days” you’re referring to are storylines involving teen-oriented love stories. Even Julia Barr came on as a troubled teenager. Other teenagers with great storylines — Greg, Jenny, Liza, Angie, Jesse, Nina, Tara, Phllip, Chuck — and, of course, Erica Kane.

Would “Dallas” be a great re-boot if the focus was on an 80-something JR and his aging brother and ex-wife? The focus is on the children of those icons. Agnes Nixon is overseeing her baby — I’m giving her a chance.

I wonder, what, Nina Cordtlandt… is up to these days…..

wouldn’t it be something… to see Nina… PC and Daisys’ daughter… mixing in after all these years… with Brooke…. adam… and Opal… for the Adults…

    Kathy replied

Dallas does not focus on teens. I am enjoying Dallas. It’s young actors are in their 30′s. JR is what made Dallas famous. He was never a teenager.

    CTwildheart replied

    Hear! Hear! :)

    MK replied

ITA, I think going the teen route goes back to the AMC of the 70′s and 80′s and even Peyton Place returned years later as the next generation.

    BrookenAdamChandler replied

Dallas TNT wouldn’t be steadily losing ratings if they had concentrated on JR and Sue Ellen. But they chose to focus on the ‘young’ crowd and are.

JR and Sue Ellen are what made the original Dallas the hit ICONIC show it was. They are also who did all the press to lure people to watch the new show – especially Linda Gray – then proceeded to bait and switch and give us nothing but some really bad actress the two younger male Ewings were fighting over. Bad move.

AMC was made great by characters like Brooke and Adam Chandler. Erica, Tad, etc. Teens can be a part but not THE focus of the show. Give the people what made it great in the first place and you have a hit. IOW if ain’t broke – don’t fix it.

  9. BradF says:

I understand Johnny’s concern above about “luring” us old fans with veteran actors and then phasing them out to a teen-oriented soap. I will paraphrase what I read from the ultimate soap fan on Facebook: we need to be grateful that it’s coming back at all! So many seasoned AMC performers are returning to give this venture their blessing. Let’s enjoy that! And the fact that Prospect Park wants Brooke back says a lot for them! I love Julia Barr and Brooke, but she was underused and then cast aside for a long while. This sounds like Agnes Nixon is wielding her influence. I have missed the core characters this past two years, and I am excited to see them again. If the show focuses on good, character-driven stories, then I will continue to watch, even as the focus shifts onto other actors. If Prospect Park wants to cause an historic shift in the way fans watch their soaps, then it behooves them to keep the quality high!

I’m OVER THE MOON. Brooke and Adam are my ALL TIME favorite couple EVER! In ANY medium. I’ve been waiting and waiting lo these many years to have the wrong righted of their reunion getting squashed back in 1989 and the worse garbage thrown at them by hacks that hated Julia or didn’t get they’re a super couple.

I want to see that Julia is ON FULL TIME CONTRACT and if the show starts from 5 yrs after their engagement I’m going to need to see some serious wedding flashbacks. I waited to damned long for them to become man and wife again. I want the ceremony and the words.

I’ve been waiting for them to reconcile since they broke up after their short lived reconcilation in 95 and their brief affair in 2002! in any event their love was one of a life time and I’m glad they reunited!
I thought the worse thing they could have done was break them in 95 so she could be with pierce!

Julia Barr is a major talent, and when she left AMC back in 2006 she made it clear that she was leaving because of the poor quality of the writing and the lackluster direction, or lack thereof, for her character. She’s got a full life outside of AMC, so I see her return, recurring or even more long-term, as a strong vote of confidence in the direction PP is taking the relaunch.

    GREAT NEWS!

Then, there was Bianca and JR. Now, They will have Miranda and AJ. That is why It is Called All My Children. There was Mona who had Erica. Erica had Bianca. Bianca had Miranda. Adam had JR and JR had AJ. Jody

Love Julia, love Brooke, can’t wait to see her and other AMC characters in my beloved Pine Valley. I have fought for its return so I will be a loyal viewer once again no matter what age group is focused on. The teens have always been at the forefront of AMC– it was only when that was not the case (the last few years) that it got away from its roots (All My CHILDREN, get it?). I watched religiously from day one in 1970 and I’ll watch religiously from its second “day one”.

I just had to laugh at what Julia would think about her being the new Phoebe, all in fun, I know what you are saying-really it is a major compliment that Julia could be the rock/foundation of the show but boy could she & she really should be. It is just hard to realize how much time has gone by. I was 10 when AMC premiered . . . you do the math~

Well, with the cast a little on the skimpy side, they would be smart to offer Julia a full time hot spot on the show, not just pop her head in to say hello in Pine Valley. She’s a very very strong actress and they need the character of Brooke, painfully absent from the show for a few years albeit for the occasional hello and shoulder pat. Of course, I don’t know if Julia Barr WANTS to be so committed to the show, maybe she just wants to do fleeting appearances. It’s hard to say how actors feel since they are creative beings and some of them want to “move on” in other directions.

Glad Julia will be back as Brook.Like all other fans that have wrote in I hope she stays around for longer than a hello. Don’t make the mistake that had been made before and not use her as one of the best actress on the show because she is.She also can play any role that comes her way. She don’t always have to play young and model beautiful like other actresses do. Not to mention any names.I couldn’t blame her for leaving the show the way she was being cast, She certainly didn’t deserve that after all the years she gave AMC and stood back so the focus could be placed on someone less deserving and less of an actress than her.Again no names. Every long time viewer knows who.Hope it’s done right this time so she will want to stay around. If this is to be worth the effort of bringing this soap back the object has to be to please the viewers and the cast.

I must say I find it quite amusing that actors who had deserted ABC long before the soap cancellations, such as Robin Strausser and Julia Barr are signing on; great news though!

    Reply

    BrookenAdamChandler replied

Robin and Julia didn’t ‘desert’ ABC. Robin had back troubles and wasn’t asked by Frank Valentini to come back for the last episode of OLTL despite being the other ‘star’ of that show.

Julia left AMC because she had her leading man, major relationships and storyline handed to BE on a platter and was offered recurring for which she would get little or no airtime. The HW Megan McTavish hates Julia and made no secret of it nor did Brian Frons who didn’t want any focus on her. Despite all of this she graciously agreed to return when David Canary wanted to leave after the move to LA. She wasn’t asked to come back in a fulltime capacity or for anymore than that stint. The 3 wk stint that was supposed to have happened when AMC went off the air was cut short by PP, ironically.

So if anyone did the deserting it was ABC who deserted two of their very best actresses whose characters made their respective shows successful vs driving them to cancellation like BE and others that shall remain nameless.

    Brett replied

@ BrookenAdamChandler: Sorry, perhaps my comment was badly worded, I was making a dig at ABC not the actors themselves. What I meant was that I found it amusing that these actors are now willing to return on a reduced salary for Prospect Park but they weren’t willing to stay working with the jerks at ABC on full salary. ABC has deserted the soap fans and the staff and crew of their daytime soaps, they couldn’t give a crap about the soaps or the fans, they just want to produce cheap crap and shove it down our throats.
