Looks like Katie Couric’s deal with ABC is about to become official. According to The Wall Street Journal, “Katie Couric is finalizing a deal with Walt Disney Co.’s ABC to create her own syndicated talk show, and is likely to announce the program as early as Monday, according to people familiar with the negotiations.”
An ABC deal is expected to include the talk show, which would give Couric the ownership and the money she had been seeking, as well as ABC having a place for her at ABC News, which could include segments on 20/20.
So the big question for soapers is, what time slot would Katie takeover in the ABC Daytime line-up? Would it mean the end of General Hospital? Or, could it be the show to replace the Oprah time slot that follows GH in most markets? Or, is something else at work here? Stay tuned.
