If there is ever any doubt about how amazing the bond between soap stars and their fans one needs to look no further than yesterday’s visit by Kim Zimmer to Canonsburg, Pennsylvania resident, Donna Lee Sullivan. KDKA-TV and Celebrity Events Group, promoter, Mike Gold, brought together Zimmer with Donna Lee, whose greatest wish was to meet, “Reva” from Guiding Light. You can watch the video here and the photo gallery of the meeting here.
Both Sullivan and her husband are deaf, but Zimmer had no problems communicating with them when she surprised them at their home. And sadly, for more than two years, Sullivan has battled breast cancer. Doctors have given her two to six months to live, which made this meeting all the more poignant. “Can she read my lips? I want to give you tickets to our show so that you can come on-stage and hug everybody there,” Zimmer told Sullivan. Later this month, 11 soap stars from various shows, including Zimmer, will be in Pittsburgh for the KDKA-TV Soap Star Spectacular on June 13th at the Petersen Events Center.
“That’s devotion, that’s devotion,” said Zimmer of Sullivan. “When you get called on or asked to do something like this, you can’t say no.” Sullivan shed a lot of tears too, but like Zimmer’s, they were tears of joy.
