195 February 16th, 2015 Kristen Alderson On Her Final GH Scenes With Roger Howarth: “Roger And I Were VERY Happy We Had Those Scenes Together.”

Courtesy/ABC

Monday marked the final episode of Kristen Alderson in the role of Kiki Jerome on General Hospital.   As viewers know, Alderson decided to exit the series and the role will next be played by Hayley Erin.

In her final scenes, Alderson acted with her long-time scene partner, Roger Howarth (Franco). But while Kiki and Franco are not biologically related on GH, when on One Life to Live, and early on during their time on GH, Alderson played Starr Manning, and Howarth was Todd Manning.  This was prior to the Prospect Park lawsuit entanglement.

As a nod to their time when they were on-screen father and daughter, the GH writing team wrote-in that while Franco was still suffering the effects of LSD, he spoke to Kiki as if he was his bio-daughter, and even talked about the difficulties he has had in his relationship with her mother.  But he wasn’t referencing Ava Jerome!   One Life fans know it was Blair he was referencing.

After the scenes aired today Kristen tweeted: “Roger and I were VERY happy we had those scenes together. Thanks @carlivatiron & @valentinifrank #shorty“   She also tweeted:  “Now I think today is really my last air date on @GeneralHospital … Thank you again for all of the overwhelming support & love.”

Ron Carlivati clarified on Twitter that when GH knew Kristen was exiting the show, they wrote-in the scenes between her and Howarth!  The head scribe tweeted: “We rewrote them after we found out Kristen was leaving. Her scenes in this episode were originally with Morgan. #GH

And in a beautiful and emotional moment at the end of the episode which felt like Howarth saying his farewell to Alderson, he said in a speech: “You’ll find something that you love to do and do it. And don’t ever marry a man unless you trust him.  Most importantly, believe in yourself.  I want you to have an OK life.  I think you deserve that.”  Alderson’s Kiki then says, “You don’t have to do this.  I’m not saying goodbye forever.”   To which Roger replies: “Maybe you are.   So just in case  …  goodbye.  You’ve been a gift to me.  I won’t forget you.”   It was Howarth at his best!

I actually did cry, Judy. The dialogue between Roger and Kristen was from the heart. They have shared such closeness as Todd and Starr….such life-lasting friendship, and perhaps as close as a father-daughter relationship two actors working together could possibly share.
It was so sad to see their loving exchange; to hear the affectionate praise for each other. Their mutual respect was palpable…I was moved beyond words. The scene was real and honest ….I was present in the makeshift hospital room.
I feel as if I’m losing a friend…watching Kristen/Kiki standing in that doorway as she bid her ‘last’ farewell to Roger/Franco was so touching, my heart broke.
Bye, Kristen….you will be missed so! Luv-ya, girl. All the best.
I do hope Roger stays for the duration.

That said, I really like Cee Cee’s post. It’s eloquent and poignant and worthy of the aforementioned scene.

    kevin replied

Yep! I appreciated the multiple levels that the dialogue was reflecting: Franco & Kiki; Todd & Starr; Roger & Kristen. The emotion was genuinely heartfelt, certainly – nice work again, Mr. Howarth. Best wishes following your dreams, Kristen: “Go get ‘em, kid!”

It was awesome and sooo beautifully delivered from a “father” to his “daughter”, recalling their relationship they had since she was a very, very young girl. It was obvious that RH meant the words even though they were written for him and the tears were genuine. I cried too for it ended a long, long loving relationship between two actors that have spanned the time. And yes, I agree with Magic, I, too, loved that scene/moment and it was an fantastic nod to OLTL.

Because I have watched One Life to Live and General Hospital from inception, I knew those farewell scenes were written for Todd And Starr, and that poignant moment reflected everything I knew about them from the moment she was born to Todd and Blair on One Life to her exit as Kiki Jerome. Howarth is a brilliant actor, in my opinion in line with the likes of Deniro and Brando to name a few. Give him the break he needs and let him shine! Kristen, you will be missed!

I teared up watching this scene! I realized that Franco was channeling Todd in these scenes, and I was watching the last scene thru blurry eyes. I watched Kristen grow up from a little girl, have a tv daughter and lose her. She was wonderful as Starr and it’s only the mess with prospect park that turned her into Kiki, which unfortunately never connected with the fans. I will miss this beautiful actress but know she has a wonderful future, and I can’t wait to see her in other things!!

As a GH viewer, I loved this episode with scenes with Kristen and Roger, back in the day, my Grandma would watch OLTL and in the other room, I’d watch AW. Anyways, I really enjoyed the crossover of Blair, Todd and Starr on GH briefly a few years ago, and I was really hoping Kristen’s last scene would be with Roger and, somehow would incorporate the OLTL characters, intertwined into story with Kiki and Franco. Thank you GH for giving Kristen her final scenes with Roger, they were so deep and full of history between this two actors and their working relationship. What a send-off for Kristen. At this moment, I wish the role of Kiki wasn’t being recast.

Kristen you look so much like my daughter Emma who passed away over 6 years ago. She had the same spunky fire for life that you brought to the roll of Starr and Kiki.
Hopefully today was just saying see you later someday. Maybe Roger and Kirsten can have their own prime time show some day as a father daughter investigation team that would be great. The father daughter chemistry is there to make any show you two would do together a success.

THANK you to the writers. This was perfect (short of him saying something like ‘goodbye shorty’”. But he said enough to indicate he was saying goodbye to Starr and most importantly to Kristen. Just think–he knew her since she was ??? 4 years old. He was like a father. Think of all the hundreds of scenes they had with him as her father while she grew up right before his eyes. Think of what he must have heard from her as a 6 year old–”oh, I got a new ….. (toy). Or as a 9 year old, “hey, I’m painting my room …. and I’m going ice skating with my friend Suzie”. Then as a teenager, “should i wear my hair like this? Don’t tell me what to do…”. Then as a young lady, ” I’m dating so and so”. And finally, “wow, this actor that plays Michael is really cool.”
clearly, I’m just making up the lines here, but basically he saw, related to her, all the stages of life she went through to this point.
Reciprocally, she probably heard from him, “Kristen, my wife just had a baby. I’m not getting any sleep, but I’ll get throught the lines”. “Kristen, we moved to X house last weekend, you and your family got to see it”.
So whatever he went through in the decades of knowing her.

This was/is a long standing relationship spanning decades.
I wish them only continued love between each other and I know they will stay in contact forever.

    WILL MISS KRISTEN, WITH ROGER!!

I am glad that the writers at GH were able to pay homage to the characters from their sister show (One Life To Live). I was excited when the characters carried over to GH when OLTL ended. I did not think that it would work when they had the dispute with Prospect Park and the characters had to change names, but GH found a way to make it work. Now Kristin is starting a new chapter in her life and I am glad that she and Roger had the opportunity to end on what I thought was an outstanding note. I will miss Kristin (and Starr and Kiki ) and I wish her great success in her new endeavors.

It was wonderful to watch Roger and Kristen in Kristen’s last scene on General Hospital. I have watched them together since Starr was a little girl on One Life to Live; and have loved the Manning family. I am so glad that Kristen’s last scene on G.H. was with Roger, and those were real tears that they both shed. It was the end of an era. I hope the rumour is true that Kristen is going to Days to be with her ex-on screen mother; Kassie De Paiva. They play so beautifully together and they sing beautifully together too. I hope the Kristen can also pursue her singing; she has the voice of an angel. Good bye to sweet Starr Manning and grown up Kiki Jerome; your legions of fans will miss you terribly.

I actually grew up watching her. She appeared on OLTL at the age of six. I was ten at the time, watching the show with my grandmother who minded me and my siblings after school.
Kristen is like family to me. I get a pang in my chest when I think about ‘losing’ her as a sister and a TV character. Her familiar presence always brought me much comfort. Needless to say, I want her to fly and touch the stars…..

Well I thought it was a brilliant way for them to say goodbye as Todd and Starr without ever saying it was Todd and Starr— and you can tell it was personal for both of them. It was acting, but not acting, if you know what I mean. I liked the scenes with Franco and Nina, when they had him thinking he was James Franco and Nina was Anne Hathaway– but these scenes were just lovely, sweet and clever— I was not a OLTL viewer but even I could feel the history and love between those two as their characters and themselves. It wasn’t flashy, no bombs, no gun play, no over the top premise, just a real down to earth moment, told in a quirky way— my favorite scene during sweeps so far.

Since Roger is Roger, I thought for sure he was adlibbing and putting all the Todd/Blair/Starr storylines – divorce trouble, being sued for custody of your kids, losing custody…. and as Todd and himself – holding her when she was little, watching her grow up… I knew right away what he was referring to, but thought Roger was the one doing the “writing”.

well kudos to all! I have watched Roger and Kristen for years and years together…. it would be so nice to see them act together again, somewhere, some place, some day….

I have a vision of her, when she was very young, as Starr Manning and being fiesty and taking a cab across town, all by herself… cuz she wanted to and nobody was going to stop her. Just like her father Todd! :-)
