The former darling of One Life to Live, Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning) who is set to reprise her role on the  lone ABC soap, General Hospital tweeted her excitement today after signing her official deal with the series!  In the tweet the talented and popular Alderson revealed she has signed a three-year deal to stay put in Port Charles.

There are now all indications that should GH stave off the cancellation rumors that Alderson will be a permanent fixture in Port Charles for some time to come.

Alderson tweeted just a short time ago, “Just signed my General Hospital contract! 3 years! Here we go… You guys ready!? YAY”

Kassie DePaiva, Alderson’s on-screen mom, Blair responded with another tweet stating, “I’m so happy for you baby girl. Shine your light!!!! See you soon, Mama Kas”

So what do you think the plans are for Kristen and Starr once she hits Port Charles? Will her little girl, Hope be with her? Do you think her new romantic interest will be Chad Duell (Michael) or someone else?  What will become of Cole? Let us know your thoughts! And congrats on the new gig and the contract Kristen from On-Air On-Soaps!

I don’t see how her signing a 3 year deal guarantees that the show won’t get cancelled. I’m happy for her and wish her the best, but as a OLTL fan, I would much rather see my stars in LLanview. I think that the cancellation of OLTL is still too fresh for me, to get behind this whole concept of OLTL stars joining the cast of GH. I still just don’t get why ABC cancelled OLTL. And does this mean they are bringing on Hope & Cole? I mean Starr can’t be there without her child……besides that, who are they going to pair her up with, because there aren’t too many Port Charles residents that are around her age. OH God, please don’t pair her up with Michael……she’ll be shot by some mobster, within a month.

THANK YOU HEATHER! I think you & I are the only 2 people that hasn’t received the memo that the show was cancelled!!

Seriously why you people watching GH with all your negativity??
The show has sucked to hell for the past year.
We finally see a change, a positive change, and people still can’t accept the positive.
Stop watching. I for one, am excited with this news. The news is telling me that GH has hope that they will remain on tv. So much hope that they are signing 3 year contracts. If they were 100% sure the show was over, they wouldn’t sign a contract like this. They will have to pay her once the show goes off. Why would they willingly do that? Will the show be cancelled?? Maybe. But it hasn’t yet, nor is anyone aware it has been cancelled. Apparently GH has an idea to keep going. Get on the train and enjoy what is to come, or stop watching the show. Geez if I hated something soo much I wouldn’t waste all my energy on negativity. I would stop what was turning me into the negative person. It is what it is on GH.

I didnt get a memo either and I hope WE dont , so its 3 people who havent heard that general hospital has been canceled .hey 1loveabcsoaps,what do you think?you havent been around, and there has been alot of news ,abc is bringing the soap bubbles to prime time ,star got a 3 year contract,2 weeks now since any of us have been in landview.some kid is going to glee ,I dont watch that kind of stuff ,I thought michael was playing a joke on us ,but then I read he is a soap star going to glee, anyway Im glad star has a 3 year contract,it does give us some hope,I cant wait to see what will happen to general hospital now that we have real writers there again, its been a long time, maybe now I wont fall asleep at 3 oclock because I was so bored,oh yeah, ron and frank are getting rid of the newbes to ,yes let the new stories begin.

    soapbaby replied

Heather – Dial it back a bit. ABC clearly wants out of the soap game, having dismantled their soap lineup (canceling AMC and OLTL) and allowing GH to tank creatively at this critical time. So, it’s my guess that GH will not last another three years.

Yes, it’s very strange that she signed a three yr. contract..when the rumor is the show is going off in SEPTEMBER of this yr. for Katie Courics show.
If ABC could take off the amazing OLTL then why would we think that GH is going to stay? No matter who crosses over or is writing for it. All soaps are going and TOO SOON

Heather, this is the same network that denied they were cancelling AMC and OLTL for months and months, let the actors put their necks on the line and make total fools of themselves – and then pulled the rug out from under them. Why on earth would anybody think they wouldn’t do the same thing to GH. Fool me once, shame on you – fool me twice, shame on me. When, exactly, do you think GH would air – as Michael Fairman has reported here, 93% of US markets have signed on to Katie for GH’s time slot? The Chew is on first, then the Revulsion, then Katie…and the next hour belongs to the affiliates.

    Heather replied

“Why on earth would anybody think they wouldn’t do the same thing to GH?”

Because GH is GH, AMC is AMC and OLTL is OLTL. What happened to AMC/OLTL may or may not happen to GH. But last time I check, you don’t work for ABC so how would you know what will happen to GH?

“When, exactly, do you think GH would air – as Michael Fairman has reported here, 93% of US markets have signed on to Katie for GH’s time slot?”

General Hospital can still air on The Revolution’s time slot should that show fail.

    Moviegal replied

Heather – how do you know I don’t work for ABC? GH’s ratings are lower than OLTL’s were when they were cancelled last year. ABC has said that the time for daytime dramas is over – how much clearer do they have to make it? The Chew’s ratings are higher than we anticipated that they would be. If The Revolution does tank, they move GH to that spot long enough to get another non-scripted program into production-6 months tops-and that’s it. Going thru life with blinders on will not make what you want to happen occur, nor will they make what you don’t want to happen disappear. It’s time to be realistic here.

    Heather replied

Again, I never said that it couldn’t get canceled. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t happen. But I just can’t understand everybody’s fascination of speculating the demise of General Hospital.

    Heather replied

“ABC has said that the time for daytime dramas is over – how much clearer do they have to make it?”

CBS’s Leslie Moonves also said the exact same thing after he axed ATWT and GL. But that doesn’t stop Y&R and B&B from still airing on the network. True GH fans would never incessantly anticipate its death . People who are consistently reminding us weeks after weeks that GH will get canceled are most likely jealous OLTL fans who still can’t accept the fact that GH was chosen over their soap.

    Susan M. replied

Abc S-c-s!!!!!!!!!!!! There are always other T.V. channels other than abc like CBS!!

    Moviegal replied

Heather – you are comparing apples to oranges here. ABC owns and produces their soaps – CBS does not, they lease them from the production companies. Y&R and B&B are #1 and #2 for the network in daytime, respectively. Also, you are probably not aware that Julie Chen, the co-host for The Talk, is Mrs. Les Moonves. That rampant nepotisim, along with poor ratings and P&G’s decision to withdraw from all their affiliations outside of their bread-and-butter niche, led to the demise of GL and ATWT. CBS does not rely on demographics as ABC and NBC – they approach prospective advertisers w/total viewership numbers – and both Y&R and B&B have the raw numbers. The concept of “jealous” OLTL fans is absolutely preposterous – they’re just old enough and wise enough to see when the writing is on the wall, and will no longer allow themselves to be blindsided. Those who think that are the first ones that will be crying in their beer (if they’re old enough to buy it, that is) when ABC makes it announcement after February sweeps.

    Reply

    Heather replied

What does nepotism has to do with this? CBS didn’t even know with what they were going to replace the soaps with when they canceled them, let along that Julie Chen was going to be in one of the replacement shows.

But you still don’t get the point that me and other GH fans are trying to make which is why are you making such a fascination about the demise of General Hospital? If the show is ending in September as you keep on saying, would you enjoy it for the little time it it has left on the air instead of obsessing about its death.

And no, I won’t be crying if General Hospital gets canceled. Even if I have watched it on and off for 30 years, it remains just a TV show, nothing more.

    Moviegal replied

Heather – you’re flat out wrong, and apparently have no knowledge of how the TV industry works. I’ve watched GH since the ’70′s, so your 30 years is really not that impressive to me. When GL was cancelled, The Price Is Right had already been cast, tested, focused grouped – and was ready to go. The replacement was announced less than a week after the cancellation. Barbara Bloom, who was then VP of Daytime Programming at CBS, was the one that cancelled GL. Les Moonves did not make his statement until The Talk, starring Julie Chen, had also been vetted in the way listed above…and it was also announced immediately after ATWT’s cancellation was announced. Not doing your homework or naivete, either way, negates your own argument. I’ve studied film and media melodrama and society for over 40 years, and I actually am working on a PHD on that very subject. Nobody – and I mean nobody – is eager to see GH go. You’re the one not getting the point, which is that blind faith on your part isn’t going to change the inevitable. If you want to drink the Koolaid again than knock yourself out. I’ve watched GH longer than you have, and I certainly have no desire to see it go, once again your basing opinions on value judgments and assumptions – which have no basis in fact. You also appear to be entirely missing the point that this is more than “just a TV show” – it’s the dismantling of an entire genre of storytelling and programming. For the networks, it’s putting thousands of people out of work and replacing them w/low budget “non-scripted” shows that results in huge profits for the networks at the expense of quality entertainment.

    Heather replied

Your level of ignorance is so high that I’m questionning if you’re for real or if you’re just trying to get some attention.

“When GL was cancelled, The Price Is Right had already been cast, tested, focused grouped – and was ready to go. The replacement was announced less than a week after the cancellation.”

CBS canceled GL in April 09. It’s only in August 09 that CBS revealed that the replacement would be Let’s Make a Deal (yes Let’s Make a Deal is the name of the show, not The Price is Right). So what are you talking about with your “less than a week after the cancellation”?

“Les Moonves did not make his statement until The Talk, starring Julie Chen, had also been vetted in the way listed above…and it was also announced immediately after ATWT’s cancellation was announced.”

Are you for real? CBS canceled ATWT in December 09. The pilot for The Talk began in early 2010 and Chen only joined the cast later in April 10. After auctionning several shows (including a remake of the game show The Pyramid), CBS announced in July 2010 that The Talk had been retained as the show to replace ATWT. In case you do know how to count, that makes it 7 months after the cancellation of ATWT.

“I’ve watched GH since the ’70′s, so your 30 years is really not that impressive to me”

And your point is? You want a candy with that?

“Nobody – and I mean nobody – is eager to see GH go.”

Then why are you keep repeating that it’s going to get canceled? To acknowledge once or twice that GH may end this year is one thing (all GH fans have acknowledged that) . But to keep repeating it over and over makes me wonder that 1) you don’t watch GH at all and are making this story about having watching it since the 1970s and 2) that you actually want GH to get canceled. Seriously why would someone repeat over and over that a show will get canceled unless that person actually wanted for the show to get canceled. ?

“You’re the one not getting the point, which is that blind faith on your part isn’t going to change the inevitable.”

You’re the one who’s blinded because you’re the one that is automatically declaring that GH will end. I, on the other hand, am down the earth. I realize that GH may or may not get canceled. That is the realistic and mature scenario regarding GH at this moment.

“I’ve studied film and media melodrama and society for over 40 years, and I actually am working on a PHD on that very subject.”

Well, now would be a good time to reconsider that doctorate you’re doing in movies while it’s not too late. That could save you a lot of money. Because your studies in theatre obviously aren’t doing you any good in the topic.

Sure hope the revolution doesn’t last much longer. Signing a three year deal doesn’t mean that GH will stay. ABC/D throws money away everyday. They would rather be
right than admit a mistake anyways. Cancelling OLTL was a big stupid mistake by ABC and they should admit and put OLTL back on! Imagine how much money has already been wasted on the Spew and the Revulsion?!

I’m gonna have faith in the new writer/executive producers. ABC clearly has made a huge mistake with the Chew and especially the Revolution, rating are tanking. With all of us pissed off soap fans boycotting the new shows, I predict GH will move to the 2:00 time slot when Revolution is cancelled which could be a win win for the Chew and as a lead in to Katie at 3:00. I won’t watch the Chew or Katie but some may. As for Starr, she and Michael would be good together if the new powers that be tone down this mob non-sense. Makes one wonder if Jill Farren Phelps wasn’t a Mafia princess in her youth. Looking forward to the new material coming down the road for GH.

I too don’t see how her signing a three-year contract really says much of anything about the future of GH. Like most (if not all) soap contracts, hers will have an “out” every 13 weeks, in case they cancel GH, or just decide Starr doesn’t fit in to Port Charles after all.

Re: why Kristen and not Kassie/Roger H., I agree that I’d much rather see Blair and Todd, but I don’t find it beyond comprehension. Two things occur to me: (1) Kristen is undoubtedly making much, much less, and (2) I’m wondering if they are particularly concerned about the ratings among young people and think that Kristen will help them in that department more than Kassie/Roger (they’d probably be wrong, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve misread what makes young people tune in–I think they’ve been getting that wrong for the better part of two decades, on all three networks).

By the way, I suspect these decisions are coming from ABC and not Ron and Frank.

I think everyone gets “three-year” deals. Back on Y&R there was that chick that helped Nick rehabilitate and she was supposed to be on for three years. The fans didn’t care for her and she was gone in less than a year. Melody Thomas Scott just signed a three-year deal, but Y&R hasn’t been renewed (yet) for that third year of her contract.

Contracts do not seem to mean anything. Giving someone a three-year deal suggests that the show will be on that long, and that is a good thing, but it is no guarantee. I hope the new team can bring GH around so it will be here for the next three years and beyond.

This is true – 3 years is the standard “long term” contract duration in the industry. As a matter of fact, Terri Conn had just signed a 3 year deal less than two months before ABC announced it’s cancellations of AMC/OLTL.

She is a bright girl, can’t she go to school for veterinary medicine…..with an emphasis on reptiles or something? I want to support her, but I can’t stand to watch her sing really uninspired insipid songs. The 3 year contract is not surprising. Frank and Ron were signed to 3 year contracts for OLTL too. The possible cancellation would not be a factor in a contract negotiation. It is a sign of good faith for her character, but honestly any actor can be terminated after any given 3 month cycle.

Like OLTL and AMC I have been watching GH since the very first week back in April 1963.

I believe that there is a lot to be said for positive thinking…so I am choosing to look at the news of the 3 year contract for KA as something positive.

For some inexplicable reason I still believe that somehow this whole thing is going to work itself out and our soaps will return even if they end up on another network.
