59 October 26th, 2015 Lachlan Buchanan Taken Off Contract And Bumped To Recurring By Y&R!

Courtesy/CBS

Looks like another Kyle Abbott will be seeing less airtime on The Young and the Restless!  Lachlan Buchanan, who has played the adult son to Peter Bergman’s Jack Abbott, and is the third actor in the role, has now been bumped to recurring status.  The Australian-born actor debuted on Y&R back in February 2015.

Daytime Confidential first reported the news of Buchanan’s exit from the series earlier today.  Then a spokesperson for the number one daytime drama seres informed the outlet that Buchanan has been taken off contract, but put on recurring status with the show.

So, what do you think of Lachlan going to recurring status?  Would you have liked to have seen more of him?  Who else do you think should be written-off, or bumped to recurring, or could become a cast casualty on the number one CBS daytime drama? Comment below!

That would be a great thing! I don’t really care for Kyle but I rather see him on my screen than Summer.

I think Kyle would make a great Will Horton, if TPTB would ever decide to resurrect him.

I want the character Sage gone. I don’t see a point to her being on the show.

Well, she gives Nikki someone to hug over and over.
Nikki, who has always been the mother-in-law-from-hell for Sharon is always just kissing and hugging Sage. What gives?
Sage can leave now–I have no use for her–she has zero personality and comes off as a Newman groupie.

    Yes to all of this.

    CeeCee replied

Right? What’s up with that? Could be Nikki has finally come down her high horse and nose by having flashback of where she exactly hails.

    su0000 replied

    awww Harry..
when someone is taken into the Newman family they are going nowhere, ever.
ie( if the dumbazz Dylan was not related to the Newmans he’d be backburned or long gone.
Sage will be forever on your screen Harry, so sorry ..

    Nikki replied

Your so right Harry. My memory is not too good at times but was there not a time when they we’re getting along. I seem to remember back to when Sharon either killed or saw someone kill a person and her & Nikki together went into a sewer looking for a dead body? And another time when Sharon was in charge of a gala and the food didn’t show up and Nikki phoned Gina’s and ordered food giving Sharon the credit? Somewhere along the way Sharon must have done something horrid and Nikki has been mean ever since. I love the softer side of Victor & wish they would do the same with Nikki towards Sharon. I don’t want to believe she treats Sharon like this over Sharon’s sickness.

    Mark Y replied

Uh, she’s married to a central character, Nick Newman. He’s been on the show for a bazillion years and is the son of Victor Newman one of daytime’s most iconic characters. Sage has a place in Genoa City.

Good. The show needs to cut some dead weight. Kyle is a good start, but they need to add Sage, Joe, Summer, Marissa & her hubby as well as Noah to the exiting town list. I also hope this means they’re over trying to force the Kyle/Summer pairing that just doesn’t work. Or, better yet, send those two off together and spare my ears anymore of Summer’s whining.

What is going on that Lachlan Buchanan has been taken off Contract. He must be so upset by this. I feel bad for him.

    Reply

    Harry replied

Jane, I think he could have had potential but like Hunter King, he was relegated to uttering lines which reflected petulance and narcissism.
We still do not know what these two actors can really do because the writing has never been quite there for either one of then.
No, I do not like Kyle anymore than I like Summer but I am not quite sure if it’s the writers’ fault or the actors’ fault.

I thought he was the best of the Kyles so far but I think he got the worst storylines: loving his
“new dad” who drives a Ferrari at breakneck speed and happens to be a drug lord masking as his father and being part of the insufferable Scooby Doo gang. He just never got a chance to shine, I think.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I liked him as Kyle.

I would like less Summer, Sage, Stitch, Dylan, Devon, Cane, Lilly, their twins, Marissa, Marissa’s husband (whatshisname)….

I am so over Marissa and Luca. Noah needs to get a clue and realize she is a liar and cut her loose. I have no interest in Marissa, Luca, or their daughter. Y&R just made her have too many secrets. And why would a supposedly loving mother let a drug lord find a home for her baby? It just doesn’t make sense!

Never cared for this Kyle, so I am ok with it.
Summer and Kyle weren’t exciting together, either, although at least he
was a better fit with her than Austin was.

Would love for Sage to follow suit, except just be gone completely in her case.
Also wouldnt mind Kevin becoming recurring. He has really been getting on

It isn’t Lachlan that’s the problem. It’s Kyle. He has no real purpose and is an uninteresting character. It wasn’t the actor’s fault.

  13. Mary SF says:

Everyone complains when they kill off “legacy” characters, but while they are alive all they want is them gone— it makes nos sense. What they don’t like are the actors playing these characters or the story in which these characters are in. Characters like Summer, Noah and Kyle are necessary to the show, just as much as Nick and Victoria were at that age group. What they need is the right actors in the part, so personally I would write off them off for a bit, and then recast them, but don’t get rid of them permanently.

As for characters that are not legacy characters, like Joe, Sage, Marissa, Luca etc I wouldn’t shed any tears if they moved on. They served their purpose. There is nothing worse than trying to turn temporary characters into long term residents when they simply don’t fit no matter who you tied them too. The one exception is Dylan, although not a big fan of SB acting style, Dylan is now tied to two core families I just wish they give the character a better story.

I agree with all you said. The problem with Dylan is they keep trying to make him Jason Quartermaine. I think they have been borrowing his leather jacket.

cant say im sad over the news, however i do love summer and wish pratt never killed off austin! austin was such a find and i really hope they find away to bring him back for summer! a summer / austin/ maraih story had so much potential until pratt got silly with the cabin murders!
anyone realise yet that the cabin murders and jacks doppleganger have had no real ramifications on the storylines today!? just a whole year of plot driven garbage!
bring austin back for summer, bring summer and phyliss back their fire and spunk and while phylis is at it maybe she can finally tire of being jacks assistant and have a hot torrid affair with sexy as hell joe! … so avery can return and pratt can undo a couple more wrongdoings! their was a scene last week between joe and dylan and it really made me miss avery!

The character has no real identity – he is simply “Jack’s son”. Nobody in the parade of actors playing the role has been able to overcome that by leaping off the screen and exciting the writers (and audience).

  20. Iakovos says:

Someone please solve the Kyle conundrum. Jack needs a son. He is like his father John in that family is important to him. After a few misses, just let the man have a child. This should not be difficult.

Writers played same game with Paul.

I think SORASing children causes problems in the long term. Current writers now stuck with previous writers’ choices.

Yet another example of what happens when writers bring on a character with no long term story in place (“Kyle returns to Genoa City just in time to be a suspect in a murder mystery no one cares about” is not a story, long term or otherwise).

I think this is bad news. I thought the actor was cast well. He looked like he could be the son of Jack. The writing was just not good for him. The guy had little or nothing to do except for a handful of scenes where he (inanely) pined after the charmless Summer.

Hopefully, he’ll move on to a show where the writing is better for him. This was a good introduction to most American viewers. He can use this to find another job. I hope that he doesn’t hang around for fleeting appearances by Kyle in inferior plots.

Very sad by this news! I really liked Lachlan & really enjoyed watching Summer/Kyle together. It was the first time I liked Summer, and the first Y&R couple I really got into since Phyllis & Nick. I stopped watching for a bit after they split up Phyllis & Nick, so I suppose maybe it’s time for me to give up on the show again with this news.

Really loving the chemistry with Jack and Phyllis, wish all of the recasts were that fantastic!

Blame the writers– they don’t know how to deal with the “YOUNG” part of the Young and Restless. Seems like the older actors are getting the storylines (and some of those aren’t good stories, either.) So, Harry– I think it starts with the writers… the actors can only go so far with their material… you know, no matter what you do to it, hamburger is always and only hamburger.
