This was a great interview. Really enjoyed listening to it…..loved to hear the insight that Michael had to offer about AMC/OLTL and Prospect Park.

Michael said what I have been feeling about AMC for quite some time….the cast got screwed over with this move to California, promised things that never came to be and then were cancelled….so I can see them being a little skeptical about this whole Prospect Park venture. To me, and this is just my opinion, AMC has been in trouble for quite some time. I believe that there have been some major casting issues and some huge writing problems that essential brought AMC to the end of the road. As far as OLTL is concerned, I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out why ABC cancelled this show. It is, no doubt, the best Daytime Drama on the air.

AMC messed up by the recast of Liza….if you couldn’t get Marcy Walker, you should have just brought on Jamie Luner as a completely different character…I mean, it’s not like she acted like Liza one time, while on the show…so why not make her someone else. They messed up with the Colby Chandler recast…Ambyr Childers played the role best, so I don’t know why she wasn’t brought to mind, when the replaced Brianne Moncrief with Natalie Hall (who happens to be the absolute worst actress in the world- again that’s just my opinion.)

The mountain man, Caleb & his son was a bad idea…. Marissa was a character that stuck around longer than her expiration date. And crazy woman scorned turned angel, Madison was a runaway train that crashed and burned, but viewers were left smelling the smoke for way too long. And then there was heroine turned nut-job…..Crazy Annie. They had a good character in her, at the beginning, but something went wrong with her a long time ago, and we all know what that was……Pratt!!!

In order for AMC to survive, with this new Prospect Park venture is, they are gonna have to make some super smart casting decisions….and they are gonna have to get someone at the helm of the show to write their butt off….while still respecting the history, characters and fans of the show. Now that Eden is off Y&R, see if she wants to come back and play Bianca….Get Julia Barr to be your leading lady of AMC….the woman can act her tail off!! Give the characters their own lives and stories, and quit bunching everyone up together for the same story line…. More romance, more family…but give it an edge….. Oh and quit recycling writers from previously cancelled shows…..get some new blood with some fresh ideas to take AMC into the new internet medium.

OLTL, I’m not too worried about….now that we have Frank on board, along with Erika Slezak, Michael Easton, Kassie DePaiva, Ted King and now Sean Ringgold….more are sure to follow.

Question for you Michael Fairman: Who is going to be taking on the Head Writer position at OLTL, once they move to the web? Is Ron still gonna be in charge of that? Or is he packing up and focusing all his energies at GH?
