Empire is red hot! The sudsy new series on FOX featuring powerful performances and rich characters starring Terrence Howard (Lucious), Taraji B. Henson (Cookie) and Jussie Smollett (Jamal) once again was a ratings winner after last night’s episode!

According to TV Media Insights: Week three of Fox’s now bonafide new hit drama Empire topped the 9 p.m. hour with a 7.6 rating/12 share in the household overnights. Comparably, this was four percent above its week two telecast (7.3/11 on Jan. 14), and that translated into 10.32 million viewers and a 4.0 rating/12 share among adults 18-49 (based on the live plus same day data). The overnight retention for Empire out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in  American Idol (8.6/13) was solid at 88 percent. Three-week overnight track for Empire: 6.8/10 – 7.3/11 – 7.6/12.

In story, Lucious unrelenting homophobia continued to further drive his son Jamal to strike back! After Jamal impressed dad with a performance at a family gathering, and Lucious said it would be the perfect record for John Legend to record, it raised the ire of Jamal.  Later, Lucious seemingly wanting to repent for his actions and goes to talk to Jamal, only things further dissolve.  Jamal reminds his father of the beatings he suffered through as a child at his hands!  “My obedience is no longer for sale,” in a defiant tone Jamal says to Lucious.  Then, Lucious bring up the fact that Jamal is not paying for the apartment he is living in!

However, Jamal declares his independence with his boyfriend Michael in tow, and they vacate the apartment, and leave the key.  When alone, Michael asks if Jamal is sure he wants to give everything up that he has.  Next, Jamal in a one of the soapiest and best cliffhangers thus far in the freshmen season of the series utters: “I’m going after his empire! I’m gonna take it.”

    OIhh it sounds so good..
I have not watched , yet..
I am excited to ‘binge’ watch..
I do not like waiting a week in between shows to see the next episode, that kills the suspense and train of involvement..I like it a continuous run like a movie with no interruptions, it really is so much better that way..
    I will watch through demand..
I am so looking forward to it!!!!

Let me tell you…… It’s torture!!! I feel like a drug addict suffering from withdrawal syndrome! The ONLY thing that gets me through the week are the hilarious tweets.

I was enjoying Empire until the youngest son made the remarks about President O’Bama on the week of Jan. 14th’s episode. I couldn’t understand why Lee , Terrence , and Henson would allow those remarks to be written into the script about a sitting president. Plus, I’ve been waiting for a boycott of the show. It’s known how Fox feels about the President.

    lol

This is the USA.. all presidents including Obama have been made fun off and bashed and criticized in every way possible .
There is not going to be any boycotting.. lol

Praise America for its’ freedom of expression and Speech ..
A river of blood has been shed for that privilege.

    Long live Obama and Empire!

@Belle, yes it is a known fact how Fox feels about the president, but I trust Lee Daniels, Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard to no let it go too far. The youngest son is a realistic portrayal of any ungrateful snot nose kid who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. And to echo su000, Barack is no different than any other president; he’s going to come under scrutiny from those who don’t agree with him.

However, the show is very enjoyable and I hope you continue watching it.

It’s reality. A lot of African Americans are disappointed in the performance of the President. African Americans have done really poorly since the recession and their were higher expectations of Obama. In fact, many of my African American friends clarify that Barack is actually the first bi-racial President and since his family did not go through the slavery experience (as Michelle’s did), that he is disconnected from that experience and the magnitude of racism and discrimination.

Don’t mistake what is written in a script with supposed network bias. FOX has NEVER confused it’s real goal – profit – with political preferences. Remember, this network began with MARRIED WITH CHILDREN and THE SIMPSONS – shows that riled & offended conservative viewers many, many times. As for the remarks about a sitting president, POTUS can take it. The remarks were not as much about the POTUS as they were about the immature, clueless, entitled character of Hakeem.

Belle I have to admit those remarks threw me off to..and the silly phone call where the President allegedly was so riled up he hung up on Luscious…you could see the discomfort in Terence portrayal of the scene..but I think they were trying to portray President Obama as a real person who responds to people in real time..and hey..that is basically him..he loves to clown his own people and he loves being funny..but he’s also tragically very misunderstood for POLITICS sake..JMO

I agree with the comments made about my comments on Hakeem’s remarks . I know the immaturity of some of the youth of today and of some of the old crowd.
Yes, downtownla, some Blacks are upset with the President ; however, I’m not one of them. Just because his family didn’t evolve from the slavery experience doesn’t mean that he doesn’t understand how Blacks feel. You nor I came from slavery directly; yet, I know about Jim Crow because I lived it. Plus, I’m sure the President has experienced racism in his life also.
Anyway, I’m loving all of the comments and thoughts about the show.
Lia, I loved Dallas also. I’m still believing that someone will come to him/herself and bring it back.
KansasGuest, you’re right, too ; it’s about the money.
Thanks guys, I’m loving you and Empire!
    Empire is great!

There are fakes ‘reality’ shows that are stupid, to say the least about them..
Empire is as close to real reality a sitcom could be ..
If you want true realism, that would be the ”peoples” of Empire..
