Meredith Vieira, the former co-host of NBC’s “Today” show, who last week announced that she was leaving her game show host duties on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, said in a statement, “I am about to embark on a new adventure with NBC.”
It is has now been revealed through Media Encoder blog of The New York Times that Vieira and NBCUniversal are in preliminary development plans to potentially launch a new daytime talk show series for Vieira that would start no sooner than September 2014.
According to the N. Y. Times, “If discussions bear fruit, Ms. Vieira could show up at 11 a.m. in some local markets, the same hour that The View is shown.” As daytime fans know, Vieira was a co-host of ABC Daytime’s The View for its first nine years. However, the time slots NBC syndication executives are most likely eyeing are those occupied by The Jeff Probst Show, which is televised at 2 p.m. in many markets. A spokeswoman for NBC’s syndication arm declined to comment on development plans.”
Vieira was seen recently by soap fans when she returned for a guest appearance as Bree Flanders on General Hospital to usher in Lynn Herring’s return as Lucy Coe and as part of the cross-promotion which has GH stars appearing on “Millionaire” in honor of the soaps upcoming 50th Anniversary.
