Last week on General Hospital, viewers witnessed the first three appearances of Michael Easton’s return to the series in his new character, Dr. Hamilton Finn. The new doc Easton is inhabiting (his last GH outing was that of Dr. Silas Clay) on the surface has an extremely quirky side as written and played by the daytime fan favorite.
“Finn”, as he reveals he likes to be called, comes to GH thanks to Monica Quatermaine (Leslie Charleson) since he is an infectious disease specialist. Monica called him to come consult on her sister-in-law Tracy’s (Jane Elliot) case.
When Finn shows up at GH, he brings with him his “service pet” lizard (a bearded dragon) named Roxy. He quickly asks Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) at the nurses station to have a candy striper, or someone look after Roxy and feed her the crickets he brought with him in a paper back. While looking shocked, Elizabeth also touches upon the startling resmenblance of Dr. Finn to the late Dr. Clay. Later, the conversation happens again with the other characters where Finn says, “Guess I have one of those faces!” Still later, the lookalike issue is addressed at Tracy’s bedside with Dr. Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) when Finn says, “Does it bother you that half your staff believes in the supernatural?” While consulting on Tracy’s case, Finn says he knows he has a terrible bed side manner to the cantakerous Quartermaine. Finn goes on to explain that Tracy actually has an infestion of worms in her brain. It is treatable via medication, but the success rate isn’t 100%.
Dr. Finn also has a new home … the Metro Court hotel where he will be staying for the very forseeable future. But his first moments in the Port Charles establishment don’t go over so well. That includes a member of the housekeeping staff freaking out over seeing Roxy, his pet lizard. Enter Carly (Laura Wright), who comes by with champagne to welcome her “permanent” guest. Finn says to Carly: “I take it from the screaming she’s not coming back.” However, now Finn is panicked he cannot find Roxy, who got scared because of the housekeeping staff member’s screams. Carly soon learns that Roxy is Finn’s “service pet”. When she tries to dig as to why Finn has a service pet, he kindly fires back, “It’s killing you that I won’t tell you what I have Roxy for.” Carly answers, “Yes!”
After finding Roxy, and later alone, Finn lshares a moment the reptile where he says, “What do you think Roxy? I think you’re right … we’re going to be happy here.”
So all this begs the questions: Why do you think Finn has a reptile as a service pet? What did you think of the reintroduction of Easton to GH in a new character and starting to establish him as a much quirkier character than his past incarnations on the soap?
