174 June 19th, 2013 Michelle Stafford’s Heartfelt Message On Her Final Day Of Taping At Y&R!

One of the most most sensational actresses ever to appear on daytime is finishing up her run today after 16 years on The Young and the Restless!  Daytime Emmy winner Michelle Stafford, who recently made the decision to depart the number one CBS soap after portraying one of the best female characters on daytime, Phyllis Summers Newman, is moving on to new career adventures.

In a statement just a short time ago on her facebook page, Stafford related to her colleagues and friends: “Today i finish my 15 year gig at my job… Wow!! I’m excited and sad.I   so LOVE the people I work with! I suppose if I was a person who didn’t believe in future I would think that this was it for me…but i don’t feel that way.  There is SOOOO much out there. I am very excited to live a new life.  I am so grateful that these guys employed me for so many years. Honored and humbled that Bill Bell hand picked me to play this crazy, funny, damaged woman by saying in the meeting “I want the one in the red dress” I suppose i should thank Calvin Klein as well…It’s been a wild ride that has finally come to a stop.I feel nothing but love man. Nothing but love…”

In addition, Michelle also took her Twitter page to relate to her fans:  “Getting ready to do my last day at work!! I will be posting pics for you so y’all can be a part of it! Have LOVED this job SO much! I will air on the show through July into the beginning of Aug! There is much more to see!! VERY fun story with many twists!! Trust me.”

So soap fans, what would you like to say here to Michelle for 16 years of playing the heck out of Phyllis with each storyline and each scene she has had? Share your thoughts!

Michelle’s acting is superb. Why is she leaving Y&R? It will leave a big hole on the show and would be hard to replace her.

BUT IN LIFE, WE MUST CHOOSE DIVERSE PATHS THAT ALLOW US TO GROW. WITH EACH STAGE OF LIFE ITS A LEARNED EXPERIENCE. I WISH MICHELLE ALL THE BEST AS SHE TRAVELS TO NEW HORIZONS. This is going to be a MAJOR loss for Y&R (not to mention us fans).
Her scenes with Josh Morrow on the June 12 show how incredibly powerful she can be.

    Mary SF replied

ITA- those scenes on June 12th were powerful and both her and JM did a great job with it. I am glad that she was around for this reveal and some of the fallout, because I can’t imagine a recast doing the job she could do with it. I wish her well, but I have seen enough soap stars come and go over the years to know that a loss of any one actor rarely affects the show. She left the show before and came back, so if the show continues fingers crossed here’s hoping MS will return some day.

She”ll be back home in Geneo City again.

Talk about sexy, sultry, and men charmed by…. That’s a lot of Woman.

GH is making the same mistake that MAB did on Y and R. If Stafford is going there, and I’d wish her well, these types of moves continue to alienate longtime viewers who have to make room for yet another “big name” on their show.

That cast is larger than Y and R, and the fans are rumbling about it.

I don’t want a recast. I’d like them to write her off, and if she ever decides to come back, I know she’ll be welcome.

I have loved the Phyllis character since the day she walked on our screens. She was naughty and bad but she was vulnerable and searching for love. I felt bad for her from the beginning. She was a very damaged young lady just looking for love in all the wrong places and wrong way. I am going to miss this character so much. I would rather they kill her off then try to replace her. No one can play Phyllis like she needs to be played. When the other lady took over I quit watching and only came back when MS came back. I am not even sure I am going to keep watching. The show today is not the show I fell in tv love with. I am really bored and not interested. Phyllis was the ultimate bad girl with a hard shell around her heart, trying to do everything to save her self from being hurt. But she only managed to hurt herself further. I am going to miss this damaged lovable naughty character so much. There is no one on the screen that can take over this kind of character. There needs to be another bad girl and there is just no one.

Nobody does it like Michelle. If there is anything that this soap could do to keep her they need to do it ASAP! With all the new faces and no “Duchess” or “Phyllis” can Nikki and Victor carry the entire show? That’s a pretty tall order! I‘m still all for Robin Christopher as a recast. She has even fierier (is that a word?) Red hair, and she can play the snide, vindictive qualities of Phyllis, but she can turn on a dime and break your heart with little girl lost emotion and tears. I am not diminishing Michelle‘s contributions…she is an Emmy winning star that brought a lot to the show. SHE is one of a kind and irreplaceable…but I do not think the character of Phyllis is. Y and R, arguably, has had the best success rate with recasts of characters that many felt could NEVER be replaced. I cite Peter Bergman as Jack who replaced uber popular Terry Lester and owned the role from day one. Jess Walton took over for the legendary Brenda Dickson, and Jess IS Jill now. Billy Miller and Amelia Heinle are also recasts and people probably can‘t imagine another pair playing Billy and Victoria. Even Melody Thomas Scott is a recast! When the chemistry is right, and the writing is on point, recasts can soar successfully. The last attempt at recasting Phyllis was a disaster. Sandra Nelson was a capable actress, but had many things against her…replacing Stafford at the height of her original popularity…and she looked too old for the part…and she did not play the funny, campy part of Phyllis…she was too serious and intense. And the chemistry just was not there. I can fully imagine Robin inhabiting the role though. To say that the show cannot survive her leaving in the wake of the sad passing of Jeanne is short-sighted and mean-spirited. Jeanne 2!# 8r; and she gave her life to the show. Now she is gone, and her passing will be incorporated into the show, and her strong memory and presence will live on. If they do not recast Phyllis, the show will go on. On a separate but related note, Nicholas looks pretty good for a 50 year old man! Cassie died at about 15, which would have made Nick about 32 at the time. Because it is CONSISTENTLY stated on-air that Summer was born AFTER Cassie‘s demise, and Summer is now 18, Nick has to logically be 50 or more. SORAS only works when the parents who had the child were older to begin with…and it only affects their age by a few years. Also…when the age or supposed age of the parents is never mentioned or referenced, which is not the case here. It has always been a major story point that Summer is a result of Nick‘s affair with Phyllis AFTER Cassie died. But, it‘s not a deal breaker. We soap fans can accept ANYTHING and we have! And we will accept a show without Phyllis, or a GOOD recast. Team Robin Christopher!!!

    Reply

    k/kay replied

Jovin I agree biggest mistake they made was aging Summer! Now bringing this Cassie look alike please stop drinking the Kool-Aid and the ruining of the Sharon character. Wish MS the best but they screwed up big time with this SORAS’ed of the kids.

    Reply

    Jovin replied

Thanks for agreeing. :) it is a good thing that soap fans have been conditioned to be loyal and accept absolutely ANYTHING! Like, SORAS is okay when couples like Mac and Rachel from Another World have a child, or Nikki and Victor, or Josh and Reva, etc. The rapid aging does not affect anything. But in Nick‘s case, it is absolutely and absurd that he could have given birth to an 18 year old after Cassie died. He still looks like a frat boy. Things like that indicate a SERIOUS lack of respect for viewers. I‘m okay with it…I watched Cruz and Eden hop in Santa‘s sleigh and deliver presents on Christmas around the world on Santa Barbara in 1988…and I loved it. But that didnt tamper with ages, or pre-established logic. I also watched DAYS murder half their cast on screen and bring them all back alive. If the writing loopholes are there its acceptable. But there is no loophole to magically make Nick younger unless he about 10 When he married and Sharon and about 19 when he ditched her and married Phyllis.

    k/kay replied

Agree totally that has been my problem Joshua Morrow is not even 40 yet it is stupid and I am disgusted I can take anything but when your story has more holes then swiss cheese I am out of here. I have two weeks of DVR and I will probably delete all of it and I use to love this show I am sad because I have lost a pleasure I enjoyed watching in the evenings!

    k/kay replied

I will add this Mac & Rachel were my all time favorite couple and the producers did not want to go there because of the age difference in the actors but they sold it go to you tube everybody and watch their scenes that is what true soap opera was about.

    Tina replied

Jovin – I understand what you are saying about the age progression, but I don’t think the writers are playing us for fools. The aging of the children is necessary for storylines. If they did not age the children than the show would be called the old and the restless. If we waited until Summer and Fen really hit 18, then all the adults would be very old. Hence the necessity to age the children so that they can give them more adult roles. Now these kids can grow older in their roles just like Lily and Daniel did once they aged them.

That being said, I know that Phyllis is soooo much older than Nicholas, but because they were so great together, it made me forget all about that. Michelle is a wonderful actor and the hottest woman on daytime, and she will be missed dearly. Who ever replaces her has her work cut out for her. Good luck to Michelle and good luck to her replacemement if they go that route

There are other glaring instances of absurd SORAS…in 1!989 when Rick Hearst was cast as Scotty Banning on DAYS….that casting would have logically made Alice Horton about 121 years old. LOL. ANd the rapid aging of Rick and Bridget has made Brooke far older. Going by dates and storylines…Rick Is now 32…so to think about Brooke gettimg impregnated by Eric when he was already father to he 30-ish Ridge…that‘s just gross. And Sami kidnapped Belle on DAYS WHEN SHE WAS AN INFANT…but thanks to aging, Sami would have been 2 Years old when she kidnapped Belle. Sami is crafty and talented…but not that much. Lol

If she goes on GH she will be wasted like everyone else over there. I really hope she didn’t quit Y&R for that, even tho it almost seems written in stone.

How many more “recurring” stars can that show have that they backburner? It makes no sense.

    Good luck MS.

Damn! I hate to hear that Michelle Stafford is moving to GH! Why? I’m sure Y&R realizes that she is one of their best actresses playing one of the more important characters on the Soap! If it was the powers that be at Y&R, a pox on them!! If it was her own choice and the move was good for her career, then so be it. I just really, really am going to miss her.

I had high hopes for Y&R when Ms Bell was fired .Fans are very disappointed about the show, writers should read the message boards. Fans have better stories than the writters….hire then..
Before I close, Please get rid of chelsea, can;t stand to watch her & dylan..

I sometimes have to remind myself that this is simply a daytime soap opera… lol It can really get intense sometimes… I have been watching the Y & R for about 30 years, it can be truly devastating when they switch a character on you (or kill them off)… When I heard MS was leaving Y & R I was immediately curious to know if they’d be killing her or replacing her… I have to be honest, I think replacing this character would probably be it for me… I’d have to stop watching if they put someone else in as Phyllis. I’m not certain my interest is still going to be there when she leaves the show at all… but Im fairly sure that if they try putting someone else in her place, I am going to be really turned off… Michelle, you truly made this character, you played Phyllis well and I am certain you entertained numerous fans. Best of luck to you (I’d love to see one last scene between phyllis and christine, where phyllis sends christine right over the edge of a cliff!) her and sharon should be thrown over together! lol I would not miss either of those characters at all…

I have seen actors and actresses come and go over the years and I have adjusted but finding out that you have left for good has really saddened me. I really liked the strength and at the time the vulnerability of your character Phyllis, which you played so well. I miss seeing Phyllis everytime I watch the Y&R.
However, of course, I wish you the best in the future wherever it may take you but I still hope that you will come back to the Y&R.

I’m really sad that she left the Y&R. She is my favorite and I stop watching the show. I do

wish that she will consider coming back.

Been watching Y&R since the beginning. Will definitely miss your character but no one did it better than you so I don’t think I can adjust tonga replacement. Much luck in future endeavors.
