I’m very ecstatic that Nancy Lee Grahn extended her contract and will be on General Hospital for awhile more.I also can’t believe it’s been 18 years since she first joined GH.

Without a doubt the BEST female actor on GH. NLG along with Jane Elliott could run rings around the younger ones on the show. The show would have a hole that they would NEVER be able to fill.

She’s good but seems to be phoning it in lately. Maybe it’s the redundant story line she keeps being handed. I think Finola Hughes is a much better actress than Nancy Lee Grahn because she keeps getting better while Nancy seems rather stagnant. All I know is that when Anna is on, I am watching and listening. I can’t say the same for Alexis lately.
But yes, Jane Elliot is wonderful. I just wish they’d stop brush stroking her character with stupidity.

I agree with you Harry…i myself actually liked NLG better on Santa Barbara…she’s a good actress but as Alexis she seems to be a character the writers dont really know what to do with…i havent seen any chemistry with any of her leading men…Julian is somewhat ok but i really dont see them together…id like to see her paired for once with someone who has no mob connection and less love starved…she sometimes acts like an immature school girl in some past scenes with Julian…its just how i see it if you know what i mean…if Kevin splits with Lucy id like to see Alexis briefly date Kevin to see if that works…

    MJ replied

@Harry I so agree with you regarding Jane Elliott. She seems to be a liitle too one note for me as Tracy. I would like to see a little more vulnerability in her character. Jane Elliott was wonderful as Carrie Marler on Guiding Light (yes, 100 years ago, I know) where she showed a lot of range with that character. Seeing Tracy as a constant hard nosed Negative Nancy becomes quite boring.

    Erick replied

Jimh… Alexis’s first case was defending Kevin when he was terrorizing Felicia back in the day…. That would be interesting. But to your other point, it makes sense for her to act like a schoolgirl around Julian because when she first met him she was an immature schoolgirl. It makes sense that some of that might come back….

    aria replied

guiding light and santa barbara are now in soap heaven, so can we stick with their current roles they play wish are great, julia and carrie are dead! so their range as those character is redundent.

    Patrick replied

NLG is a staple. I give her that.

IN all her 18 years, has she ever resonated with a man? last I read… she and Ric were pretty good… doesn’t she seem look and act older then most? even with Sonny, Jax, Mac…. Sean…

I certainly don’t think she’s doable with the excitement Julian generates

even I hesitate at Alexis… prowess
no sooner is she IN… she rears and is puritanical… black robed…. uptight…. and frets at home alone

all she has left is Molly…. and she throws a fit…

she doesn’t work the court system any more. will this be more bearable… if Julian is out of the mob?

uninhibited Alexis… that’s too daring for our Alexis…. LOL… Diane should express some come hither… Alexis just might turn

    Harry replied

I love the idea of Alexis with Kevin. Kevin might bring back the grown up in Alexis.
You can be over forty and be sexy without acting like an adolescent (see Anna Devane).
Alexis’s born again virgin act has grown rather stale and for me, she and Julian just don’t click. Nancy is a decade older than William deVry and it shows. That in itself is fine as I love the idea of older women with younger men. However, we’re supposed to believe he’s a year or two older than Alexis. He looks like he’s the same age as his daughter, Sam. Now to compensate for the disparity in their ages, wardrobe has Alexis trotting around in five inch stiletto heels, extremely low cut blouses, and a push up bra which pushes her girls up so high they almost provide a cushion for chin,

    Patrick replied

    @jimH and Harry.

I too would LOVE for GH to flesh out Kevin so much more.

I’d love him with Tracy…. I think they’d be so funny together… he the psychiatrist and she the bang up pulls no punches…. wants to be in love… feisty… says it like it is… and Kevin is just charmed by her… enchanted twosome.

@Harry : LOL…. love the quip about Alexis hot kittens…. her purr is obvious… and she should be more natural…. I keep wanting to give her chances and time… but… I’ll have to agree with JimH and Shay… that she was at her best in the romancece dept… when she was on Santa Barbara

    Shay replied

@Patrick….For me, NLG had no finer career moments than as “Julia” on SB….she was paired to perfection with the delightfully devilish Lane Davies….together they were epic. Unfortunately, she has never reached that romantic nirvana with another…..to me she is almost the equivalent of “one-hit wonder,” in that no matter how long and tenaciously she clings to the role of “Alexis” she has never again really hit her stride (solo or in tandem with any leading actor)….for me, she is simply being NLG in the guise of Ms. Davis, in that there seems to be no visible difference between the character and that woman who inhabits the Twitter universe with annoying regularity.

    Shay replied

Harry….Thank you for saying what I’ve been carefully alluding to for some time….having it confirmed from a male perspective (by Patrick, jimh and yourself…) makes it more credible, however, since it tends to sound catty when a woman voices the same thoughts! And yes, I am referring to both the questionable behavioral patterns and wardrobe choices of Alexis! This is a conversation I have had repeatedly with other lady friends and we all agree with you on the subjects at hand…..the blushing, stammering schoolgirl (who literally quivers and drools in Julian’ wake) shtick is most unbecoming for an adult woman, as is the “how low can you go” tops….my word, even the undeniably bodacious Kelly M gives it a rest more often!!!! (And by the way, her latest LBD was absolutely stunning in its modesty…I love it when they glam her up!) Also, the “age difference” thing you mention is very obvious, although I am not so much referring to numbers as attitude and appearance…..in that regard, “Julexis” is extremely mismatched! (Sadly, the same goes for the ever youthful and fabulous Finola’s Anna Devane and her maturely sedate Duke….they just don’t go together anymore….she was far better with Robert and Noah, and dare I say, I would love to see her with Frisco…though I shall not hold my breath on that one! Or any slightly younger guy would do….just not to the extent of Ava-Morgan!) I also agree that Julian belongs with a far more dynamic, adventurous type of partner…someone like a Sam Morgan, but of course, not her, for obvious reasons!!!! (Britt???? But only if she and the Prince don’t kiss and make up!) Anyway, I have already proffered the notion of Kevin as a suitable soulmate for Ms. Davis….simply sharpen up his sarcastic snarking and he could possibly prove to be absolutely “Davies-esque!” Lastly, one more suggestion for Alexis….turtlenecks! Ever so elegant, sleek and sexy in their more dignified, stealth sense….witness Jackie O!

    Shay replied

@Harry….I also agree with your “Anna/Alexis Analysis” posted below. I love when the divine Devane brings it to the denizens of PC as the cool, classy commish….Finola is fierce, feminine ferocity personified! Her just the facts, mam attitude was spot on!!!!!

Actually I feel the opposite. Nancy has been on fire lately. Pay attention to the subtext acting in her scenes. Her eyes & body language are amazing. Not phoning in. Just getting better & better.

I agree. What does she see in him. She always just goes by lust and does not get to know the guy or really have anything in common with them. That can happen sometimes but it’s always with Alexis who is so brilliant in other parts of her life.

Me neither, Allen Saint James!!! I was actually hoping that the hit FLuke ordered had the name “Alexis” on it…aside from not liking that the already underutilized Lucas was in the line of fire, I think a leisurely-paced, bullet-induced coma for Ms. Davis would have made for a blissfully silent summer for her….and us!

Great news now Alexis needs some girlfriends, someone who can knock some sense into her need to pick these criminal minded men, I nominate Anna to be that BFF, they can be honest n argue/debate their current choices on mobsters. Always be on opposing sides of the law but still manage to forge a great female friendship with two smart women. This friendship writes itse.. RC don’t tell me this is not a good friend pairing?? Start writing it, I’ll take your thank you later..

Great idea Aria..I love Nancy and her character of Alexis, but with such an iconic and talented actor like her, the last couple of years, it seems , she is missing something.

A BFF or frenamy, will be a great story..Or give Alexis some health issues or something besides the same old, Alexis and the bad boys romantic drama.

I am happy she renew her contract..Encouraging news about the future of GH. :-)

Maybe Alexis’s cancer could return and that could impact her and everyone in her sphere.

    rebecca1 replied

She already had health issues…lung cancer I think years ago. Glad they never brought it up again. Personally? I don’t like watching any “entertainment” involving health issues. I don’t want to be depressed…I want to be engrossed, enthralled, swept away, intrigued, amused, fall in lust…LOL…I also think they’ve given Nancy much more to do these past few months. She’s been the supportive mom, she has a love relationship…she’s finally close to Sam…Molly’s growing up…and I love her with Julian. Could be a nice family nucleus…everyone pairing off and coming together.

At the same time…the father of her children, Sonny and Julian, are at odds. I think and I hope…that they keep Julian on the canvas and let their relationship develop. Should be interesting to see how all these interwoven at odds yet connected people interact.

What I DIDN’T get was Anna calling Alexis Ms. Davis when she hauled Julian away from the art gallery. I would assume they’d all be on a first name basis. Seemed odd and off-putting.

    andrew hass replied

I don’t want Alexis to have another health scare either. That was just an idea i had that her cancer comes back. However i like that the show is giving Alexis a lot to do in the last few months too. She’s involved in a romance with Julian that’s getting a lot of air time.Plus 2 of her exes in Ric and Ned are back in town too.As for Anna she’s the police commissioner and maybe she knew Alexis would become Julian’s lawyer and defend him against the charges. So she had too be a little formal with Alexis.

    Harry replied

Rebecca, I liked Anna calling Alexis Miss Davis. Anna is a strong and heroic woman–she is Alexis’s polarized opposite. There was a look of disdain and disrespect on Anna’s face when she admonished Alexis for being so gullible. It does seem like Alexis is a slave to her libido. Time and time again she has sacrificed her ethics for the sake of passion as seen with her affairs with Sonny, Jerry, Shawn and now Julian. Isn’t it time she loses her fixation on bod boys? Moreover, she gave both Christina and Sam a hard time about being involved with bad boys. Practice what you preach, Mama Alexis.

    rebecca1 replied

@Harry…Alexis is equally strong. They’re both highly intelligent, successful women who have BOTH had lovers in the mob. As pointed out Duke used to be quite the bad boy…and Anna also leads a life of duplicity and high risk. Let’s not forget she chose her high adventure career over Robin back in the day…so I don’t think she should be one to cast stones. And don’t misunderstand me…I love Anna as well. Just sayin’…

I don’t think Alexis is gullible at all. She has high morals…and the guys she falls for…bad boys that they are…always have hearts of gold. They’ve NEVER been violent with her or anyone she loves. And with her strength, intelligence and powers of persuasion…she has tried to sway them over to her standard of the moral code. Sonny and Sean flat out refused. Julian was willing…but as we see now not able.

As for giving her daughters a hard time…she knows the risks she takes and seems willing, to some degree, to take them for love. That’s different when her daughter’s lives are at stake…And, also let’s not forget she does wind up leaving when the “bad boy” won’t change his ways. And again, Julian was the first to really seem to want to that for her.

I still think it odd for ANY of the characters…at least the legacy characters…to be so formal with each other. It’s a small town…they all know each other and have crossed paths and lives for years. It would make sense to me if it were a new character on the scene…then yes…that makes sense. But to each other? Takes away the sense of community and cohesiveness that I like about soaps.

    rebecca1 replied

@andrew hass…I hear you…and perhaps you’re right about the reason for the formality but I’d prefer they save it for the courtroom.

First soap I ever watched was Santa Barbara almost twenty five years ago. Love seeing Nancy Lee Grahn front and center in the afternoon after all these years. She played a similar brainy, loquacious attorney in that show – for me this character is always fresh and compelling. Nancy has been the sexy smart babe on soaps for almost three decades now and she has barely aged a bit.

Great news! I am very glad she re-sign the contract. It is makes me sad how vucious some people can be writing their opinions, especially, about real people. I always enjoy her sublime acting, even when the storylines and writing are horrendous. She is one of the best actors in soap world. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but, in my opinion, she is beautiful. Looking forward to her story with Julian and her family.
