It looks like the music city drama, Nashville, canned by ABC in May, is about to find a new home on the cable outlet CMT.
That outlet would be the perfect fit, because of its country music bent. According to TV Line, Lionsgate is nearing a deal for Nashville’s fifth season to live on CMT, with an expected formal announcement on Wednesday Night’s CMT Awards. (8PMET/7PMCST)
According to Variety: “CMT would be a seamless home for Nashville, which is surely seen as a ‘get’ for the Viacom-owned cable channel. While the ratings (1.8 rating in adults 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall in Nielsen’s ‘live plus-7′ estimates) were not strong enough to warrant another season at ABC, those types of numbers are big for CMT.”
Nashville ended its fourth and final season on ABC with a cliffhanger that saw Avery Barclay (Jonathan Jackson) waiting for the love of his life Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) at the airport, only to learn that her plane has gone missing.
It will be interesting to see if the entire cast of Nashville will return in tact, if the series does receive a confirmation pick-up on a cable outlet.
