Here’s where your fictional life and your real life collide, but something good can come out of it … awareness!
Nashville star Hayden Panettiere, who has been delivering power performances as country and western/pop star Juliette Barnes, who is suffering from Postpartum depression and acting out in the most dreadful of ways, appeared on the syndicated morning talker Live with Kelly and Michael on Monday.
During her segment, the actress revealed that she can relate quite well to Juliette’s circumstance, as a newborn mother herself. Hayden gave birth to her first child, Kaya Evdokia in December of last year. She shared what her experience has been with postpartum depression, and how she hopes people can be more understanding for women suffering from this.
Panettiere stated: “I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience. When (you’re told) about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child’ — I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”
The Nashville star went on to discuss the misunderstanding there is for women going through this type of baby blues: “There’s a lot of misunderstanding. There’s a lot of people out there that think that it’s not real, that it’s not true, that it’s something that’s made up in their minds, that ‘Oh, it’s hormones.’ They brush it off. It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and it’s really scary and women need a lot of support.” She ended her frank discussion on the subject by reminding the TV audience of the power of women saying: “Women are amazing. We do something that no man can do on this planet. I mean, we grow a human being in our body!”
And tonight, as season four of Nashville (ABC 10PMET/9CT) continues life means art when: Juliette breaks down during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael, prompting Avery’s concern. But when she continues her pattern of irrational and volatile behavior, she leaves Avery with a struggle of his own. Meanwhile, Rayna is determined to show the world that Highway 65 is not just a vanity project and devises a plan to sign Markus Keen (Riley Smith, “True Blood”), one of the biggest rock artists around.
