22 October 9th, 2014 NASHVILLE’s Jonathan Jackson Brings The Heartbreak In His Rendition Of “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”!

Courtesy/ABC

If you missed last night’s episode of ABC’s Nashville, entitled, “I Can’t Get Over You To Save My Life”, Jonathan Jackson (Avery) showed viewers just why he has those five Daytime Emmys to his name!

In the perfect vehicle to showcase his talents as an actor and singer, Jackson’s Avery who has been heartbroken over finding out that Juliette (Hayden Panetierre) had a fling with Jeff Fordham (Oliver Hudson) has been trying to cope with the betrayal through plenty of booze and sex! Only there is so much one can to do dull the pain until it finally overtakes you! And that is just what happened to Avery at the end of the episode! Finally, he realizes just how much he loves Juliette and how hurt and devastated he is by her actions.

Jackson’s Avery launches into performing the song “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”.  While Jackson is singing, the show intercuts the drama of Deacon (Charles Esten) who is still pining away for Rayna (Connie Britton) – he hit the sack with someone else too – and then there is Juliette, who caught Avery kissing another woman as she was about to tell him she is pregnant with his child! Avery still does not know! Oh, the drama!

Now watch Jackson’s touching performance in the key scene as he goes into the song after the jump! Then weigh-in! Makes you miss GH’s Lucky Spencer … doesn’t it?

Julie and Doug were Days first SUPERcouple…Julie was the shows leading herione and added a touch of class to the show for many years…now they write her as a somewhat annoying busybuddy, so i do understand how you feel…but Susan Hayes is a daytime legend who deserves much better!!!

Jon…Jonathan sang in other episodes. You might have seen the episode with him which featured a duet with Juliette…was a great episode (and song) by the way. You can find it online…the song’s called “Everything I’ll Ever Need.”

JJ is a brilliant, naturally gifted actor. Remember when he comforted young Lizzy after she was raped in the park?
And he was emotionally compelling and heart wrenching coming to terms with the sins of his father after learning that Luke raped Laura.
    I love this young actor.
That said, the writing for him has been a little weak. He’s too whiny and weepy. Hell, even his song is whiny and weepy. However, he does have a lot of musical talent.
And I cannot stand Rayna. For the life of me, I do not understand why Deacon would want her. With the over done, curly hair extensions and the extra dark eye make-up, Rayna is starting to resemble Baby Jane Hudson.
And at her age, she ought to stop playing mean girl games with her men. After teasing him for 20 years, she chooses that other dude over Deacon then flaunts it in the latter’s face on stage.

Thank you, Harry! I am also not a Rayna/Connie Britton fan….(I rather find her to be another one in our mutually-mocked “Alexis” mode…..a supposedly adult woman behaving like a silly, sex-ruled schoolgirl!) She’s one of the main reasons I cannot even watch this show—though I’m also not crazy about the tunes, either—but having said that, I do consider JJ to be a pure and pleasurable talent to behold. I just wish he could make some occasional visits back to Port Charles….he was and always will be the quintessential Lucky and his absence has been painfully obvious for far too long. You would think JJ being associated with another ABC program would make it easier to arrange at least a brief return for Luke and Laura’s beautiful boy. Bring him home!!!!

Shay, did you hear me exhale with relief when I read your response?
Because I thought someone would take umbrage with my picking on the star character of the show.

Yes, I think JJ could have been the next Leonardo. He is brilliant. But this show is posed around its weakest link–Rayna. After turning down Deacon yet again, Deacon is forced to tour with the horrible man to whom she is engaged. This man rubs acid in Deacon’s wound as Rayan knew he would. Rayna actually gives her fiancee ammunition in which to hurt Deacon more. But see? THAT IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THIS PREYING MANTIS! Ahem, allow me to calm down. No, Rayna makes a surprise appearance and sings a love song with her fiancee on stage with a heart broken, rejected Deacon playing backup.
The reason I have my knickers in such an uproar is Rayan is potrayed as the heroine of the show. See? We are supposed to be on her side.

I’m glad you now like Rayna, Harry. I hope it continues! I really do see her admire her character so much…and to me she just emits warmth even when she’s tough. I also think she’s extremely attractive for an over 30-something…her clothes? LOL…I guess her style doesn’t bother me because I can’t even remember what she usually wears! But then again you said you don’t like the way Sam (GH) dresses…and I do. I like the casual jeans, t-shirt thing. I think there’s something very sexy cool about a male or female that’s naturally attractive with a nice body…That doesn’t mean if there was some event I’d be adverse to fancier duds…but I’m more a NY artsy type chick so I’m comfortable with less formal styles…

I LOVE the new interest for Deacon! There’s something so natural about the two of them together; a much better match for him then the lawyer from last season. Fact, if Rayna wasn’t in the mix I’d say this was the one for him. I also loved their impromptu song. She really connects with him…i thought it was so poignant how he looked up at her with hurt eyes while answering in song that he loved Rayna and his heart was broken. I can’t explain it but that lil song and their communication with it really touched me and sealed the deal for the two of them as a couple. It was like a mini moment from musical theatre…story thru song.

Glad Rayna stole back Lindsay…was that her name? The female artist. Will be interesting to see how Jeff can get Rayna’s kids on his label. I can’t imagine Teddy signing them over to him…or them going along with it.

JJ’s tears. I think they’re perfect for what’s going on. Nice to see a man feel so deeply…I truly feel his hurt…the depth…I hope they can get back together.

Wow! Rather foretelling that Luke used to call Lucky “cowboy.” Who knew! (that’d he be on a show in cowboy-ville/Nashville!!!!)

    Shay replied

Hah! So glad my reply gave you that audible sense of relief, Harry….I’m not sure everybody who receives one of missives in their inbox can state likewise! But yeah, I’m no fan of “Miss Rayna” or her portrayer, who frequently ate her previous show, FNL…(which I also could not regularly view, partly due to her overbearing presence and also because the subject matter was often too “trailer-trash” for my taste. Oh well,,, something for everyone out there, I suppose!) I really cannot call myself a “Team Deacon” player either. I liked Eric Close’s Teddy the ex, even if he was a total love rat, and Big Daddy, aka, Powers Boothe…..what can I say? I like the “men in suits” type. LOL. And of course, JJ, not to mention that tormented toyboy, Chris Carmack….(He’ll always be Luke from the “OC” to me!) Still, as I have mentioned, I’ve pretty much gravitated away from this program…..Oh, by the way, hope you received two other comments from me regarding the “Sparkle Pony” and “telegram” quips on the GH threads. Seems Mr.& Ms. Moderator were “not amused,” but as long as you were, then that’s all that matters!!!!!

I did see your hilarious comments. Say what you want about Sparkle Pony, she does trigger your brilliance.
I will continue to watch Nashville because I adore JJ and think Payton is pretty terrific too.
I can do without fuzzy naval orange face in pleather pants though.

    rebecca1 replied

uh-oh…here we go! I could NOT disagree with either of you more!!! LOL!

Let me backup. I agree with you, Harry, regarding Jonathan Jackson. I think he’s an amazing actor…but alas and alak crying is his specialty. I have never seen anybody more able to well up floodgate of tears complete with sniffles as JJ. I think he got that training on GH! And while I jest…I also mean it. They’re using one of his skill sets…crying on command!

I personally love Nashville. I think it has everything. Never a country music fan in the past, I’ve come to like much of it as its crossed over with pop, rock and everything in between. I think all of the songs and actors/musicians are brilliant…I love how Gunnar is really British and Scarlett, Australian…and yet I find them both totally believable as Nashvillians. (poetic license. ;)

As for Connie’s Rayna…love her! I think she’s extremely savvy, very protective over her children, compassionate toward Juliette even with their rivalry. I love her sass…her determination to succeed and stay in a business that was trying to edge her out to the “youngin” coming up.

Deacon. Sigh… I love Deacon. He is the epitome of cute, sexy, laid-back, conflicted, complex, loving, likeable, talented, on and on and one. Let’s not forget how the tried to help Juliette with her addiction. The compassion he showed for her mom. His undying love for Rayna…his passon…his newfound love for his newfound daughter, his protective instincts toward Scarlette.

I can see why Deacon and Rayna love each other. They have this symbiotic relationship….sometimes helpful, sometimes harmful…but always passionate, compelling, creative. They yearn for each other. Why wouldn’t he love her? She’s all the things I described and more. And he knows he hurt her in the past. He doesn’t blame her for leaving him.

I also understand why she didn’t choose him this time ’round. (parlty because the writers need to create more angst…). But she’s found love again with Luke. He’s good to her, he’s good for her career, he’s stable, there’s no volatile past, she feels she’ll have a stable, secure life with him Fears that Deacon will regress back to his addicition. At the same time it’s obvious she’s conflicted…in her heart she wants Deacon, but her mind tells her to move forward with Luke. I don’t think she’s being mean or spiteful…and I don’t think she’s playing games. And I don’t think we’d have as interesting a show if there wasn’t conflict…

Why is she the center of the show? I think for all her trouble she comes across as very stable, very grounded. She’s the mom. The star. The country legend. Deacon was her man/her backup singer. Maddie and what’s her face…LOL..what IS the other daughter’s name…they’re her kids. Teddy is her ex-husband. Juliette was her competition. On and on…so it centers around her orbit. That’s fine with me as I like her…and there’s soooo much story with all the other characters.

Now. Leave her curly hair alone. I am the proud owner of a huge set of dark, curly hair…and I do like my mascara!

    harry replied

Rebecca, you make a compelling argument.

I do like Nashville, and yes, JJ is a great at crying. Maybe he’s too good at it because they keep giving him tear inducing storylines. To me, he and Payton are the strongest links on the show. Oh, and the actor who plays Deacon is wonderful too.
I can forgive Rayna for choosing Luke over Deacon. However, I did not understand why she had to join Luke on stage to perform a romantic duet after announcing their engagement to the audience while broken hearted Deacon was expected to play back up. Prefacing that event, Rayna felt compelled to tell Luke that Deacon had told their daughter that he had proposed marriage and that she had turned him down when she knew learning this news would anger Luke triggering more tension between the two men. It’s as if she’s trying to stir it up for ego gratification. Rayna has been presented to us as the heroine of the show so her actions are a bit in conflict with who she is supposed to be.
As for Luke? I don’t trust him and think he’s just using Rayna to boast his career. But don’t tell him I said so!

    harry replied

    Correcting self—with whom—- with whom!!

    rebecca1 replied

You’re not the only one who doesn’t trust Luke. I’ve read so many comments on different sites…he’s just enemy number one to Rayna/Deacon fans. I never disliked him; I just like Deacon more…way more! :) If they weren’t pitted against each other I don’t know if I’d feel such a pull, but Deacon is just this cool, broken yet totally together hot dude. He just is. Luke? I think he plays the sexy cowboy singer just fine…he has the music in him as well…and I think he gives Rayna the stability she needs. I have no doubt though that her heart will always belong to Deacon and by series end (which I hope isn’t happening any time soon) they’ll be back together. Unless…the writers purposely don’t reunite them in some sort of twist…

I see what you’re saying about Rayna going up on stage. I think she’s trying to prove to Luke, the fans, herself …and Deacon…that she’s going through with the marriage. The more doubts she has the more she pushes herself to stick to her guns and go through with it. Seems like she’s going to freak out/back out…the wedding’s just too soon. We shall see. Should be interesting whichever way the wedding goes. Great storyline possibilities in all directions.

I just love the whole feel of the show. The communal vibe of the Nashville music microcosm. The everyone-knows-everyone at the local bars, the impromptu jams…I just love music in general so I love the whole creative scene…

    rebecca1 replied

and…that was a whole lotta love. three to be exact. ugggggggggg!

    harry replied

Well, Rebecca, you will be happy to know that Rayna did not make me gnash my teeth tonight. In fact, I kind of liked her. However, she is as bad of a dresser as GH’s Sam MCall.
But JJ continues to cry, whine, vent and cry some more.
Just once I’d like to see his lovely face not drenched in tears or his beautiful blue eyes all blood shot.
Come on, Cowboy–as your Daddy Luke used to say, “Get back on the saddle and Giddy up!”
