46 September 6th, 2014 NEXT ON GH: Anna and Obrecht Have A Showdown Over Faison and Nathan!

Courtesy/ABC

On Monday’s episode of General Hospital, look for quite the meaty scene between female titans, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati)!

In this video preview, Obrecht is confronting Anna as to the whereabouts of Cesar Fasion (Anders Hove) and wants Anna to admit she killed him!  While Anna never does say what happened to the sociopath, she questions Obrecht’s motives  for coming to see her, which seem to be using her missing son, Nathan (Ryan Paevey) to get answers about Faison!

Anna admits she has grown very fond of Nathan, and lays into Obrecht for handing her son over to her sister Madeline (Donna Mills) so she could go be with Faison!

Watch the clip after the jump!  Let us know what you thought of seeing the showdown as played by Finola Hughes and Kathleen Gati?  And, the bigger questions … where is Faison?  Will it prove true that Nathan is the love-child of Victor Cassadine (Thaao Penghlis) and Liesl?

  1. GH50 says:

When was the last time we saw Dr.O and Anna together. I can’t remember. Was it when Robin left? That was six months ago. Was that when Dr.O accused Anna of killing Faison? Has she waited six months to confront her again? Was that last conversation the same one when Dr.O suggested that she knew the reason Robin left and there was more to it than Anna knew? So Anna never followed up on that and Dr.O has waited all this time to try and get answers about Faison?

This is a meaty scene. But that seems to be what GH has become. A bunch of scenes with no story attached. Fans waited months for the Dr.O/Franco scene. Then what? Fans waited three months for Nina and Ava. Then what? Fans have waited six months for Anna and Dr.O. Now what?

We now have episodes that contain a few scenes between characters, and really it’s about scenes with certain actors, becoming some type of event. They are staged, fans critique the acting and the dialogue, and then nothing. No real story, no continuity, just some scenes that people should look forward to because they showcase certain actors together. Is that engaging storytelling? Is that why you watch a serial drama.

Scooby Doobey Doo…GH needs you…come solve a case and help poor Anna…Scooby will fill right at home-like any cartoon character-since the show feels like its written by Hanna Barbera…just joking folks?…lol

GH50: I absolutely agree with you. Storylines are constantly “lost” because of the on-slaught of new, recurring, and useless characters. I forget about many of the storylines (for example, Carlos, Ava, Sabrina-the accident “cover-up,” etc) because there is no continuity. It’s very sad to see. The show does not appear to have much balance.

By now some probably forgot Ric Lansing was there…i know the writer has…lol…if the show would drop about 8 to ten characters and have more continuity it would be so much better and maybe climb even more in the ratings!!!

    MaxDaddee replied

I so agree with this. It’s like rather than storylines, we have a constant parade of smoke and mirrors, blasts from the past. Tired of Obrech’s madman ex-boyfriend running around loose tinkering with lives in a health care facility. And then there’s pulling things out of the recycling bin – like the Carly and Sonny liaison… Sonny’s character burned out long ago. They need to bring some stabiity and realism to the storylines. Bring in Erika Slezak and some of the Buchanans from OLTL. The writers have basically shredded the Quartermains out of the picture. Bring in a new cornerstone family like the Buchanans. And did I say I’m really tired of Nina and all that comes out of her mouth?

    Awesome!!
That is why GH is the true #1 soap!!
With great actors ; Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Dr. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) facing-off on screen together their talent is explosive..
They are equal in giving powerful performances..

Same with Mura West/Ava facing-off with Michelle Stafford/Nina..
They are explosive, and even-up in giving powerful performances..

((and some believe Sharon and Cassi Y&R are giving great performance, in comparison to the above 4, they are weak/mediocre …. (cassi better than Sharon)

Gotta give credit where credit is due..
    General Hospital=powerhouse !!…. GH is thee #1 soap!!! :)

I agree it is a meaty scene and i look forward to it…and there is a problem with continuity…this paticular scene should have been shown months ago…Dr.O wouldve never waited this long to confront Anna over her beloved Faison…maybe it has something to do with the availability of actors and how many scenes the can do( a show with a bloated cast like this would cost a fortune to produce if all were featured everyday…they need to drop several and focus more on continuity like the other shows do)…in spite of its flaws which i dont see corrected anytime soon, many watch to help keep it on the air…others find enjoyment in it regardless…maybe sooner or later tptb will realize there is problems and finally work on them…in the meantime…i know ive complain and have threaten to quit watching which i may or may not do…but as long as some juicy scenes like this one and the Ava/Nina one from the other day appear every now and then, i’ll tune in for that because its still ten times better than whats on oppisite…jmho!!!

I missed a few episodes. Is Fluke really Victor?

    Shay replied

Exactly, jimh! It’s long past time for these two dynamic divas to once again lock horns…let battle commence!!!! Despite all the delirious declarations of devotion coming from fans of last week’s Phyllina/Ava verbal mash-up, this is the pairing for which I have been waiting….and…waiting….and waiting. Of course, Dr. O. with anybody is quite delicious and satisfying….ever since the Nurses’ Ball, her all-too-brief appearances have been doled out far too judiciously for my taste! Back to the frontburner for Mutter!!!!!!

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Yes…more Mutter for me too…took forever for this Anna/Dr.Mutter showdown and hopefully it was worth the wait…Nina/Ava scenes was delicious drama but i’ve been starving so long for another juicy round between Anna/Mutter that i litterally lost ten pounds!!!…lol

    Shay replied

Well, I don’t know about you, jimh, but yesterday’s episode was the first time in an absolute age that I actually felt as if I were watching the real GH. We had Spencers, Cassadines, Scorpios and Westbournes, who despite being the “new family” have ties that reach back to the show’s best days. I actually watched the entire program, beginning to end, with interest!!! Not only were the most fascinating characters and storylines featured, but it was more who we didn’t see that made the episode so enjoyable….no SAPPY, Felix, Sonny, Carly, Kiki, Jordan, TJ, Alexis, Molly, Julian, Ava, Grossalie, et al….and no NINA!!!! (Totally sick of that one eating the show,,,,,) Of course, it wasn’t quite perfect, in that we still had the Quartermaines missing in action and those perturbing prepubescent pipsqueaks hamming it up, but all in all, it was a truly joyful experience! (Short-lived bliss, of course, but must give credit where credit is due!!!!!!)

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Same here…in my reply to CeeCee yesterday i mentioned it was a better show…its usually better with me favorite Dr. Mutter…hopefully, nuJason’s return will help bring the Quartimaines more airtime…and more Monica!!! But i wont hold my breath…those others you mention will unfortunately show up…GH needs a big disaster to trim the cast and get rid of the lot of them and hopefully in one episode…lol

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Todays episode…was nearly as good as Mondays…Wed. not looking too good with a few boring characters in the preview but i’ll wait and see…my interest in the show has increased for the better(even with some flaws) since by REALLY BAD day from two weeks ago…

    Shay replied

And you just knew it was too good to last, right jimh? Tuesday wasn’t as good as Monday, and Wednesday? Forget about it! Back to many of those boring, unnecessary filler castmates that have no place on the canvas! As for today, I see by the preview that we are again being forcefed “LaNina,” as if it would be too much to ask for a week’s relief without that show-eating albatross on wheels, and oh yes, Snippy is there as well, acting all “Mata Hari” with her juvenile revenge-capade. Oh spare me…..

the writing is awesome suspenseful and giving the actors great moments to perform..
GH is no longer a soap from the 80′s (thanky gawd!)
The world has changed dramatically since the 80′s (another thanky gawd for the loss of the big head hairdos and polyesters)
Since the ”old days” ya know the good ol’ days.. media has changed tremendously, so should the soaps.. GH is the ONLY soap going into 21st century production ..
If the soaps don’t or can’t keep up with the 21st century they will die from 80′s syndrome…
The now gen like fast fast fast, everything fast..
they do not need to see everything evolving moment by moment..
Movies show a lifetime in 2 hours (no need for filler)

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Its not fast when you have to wait for a nearly forgotten story to continue weeks to months later…yeah, thank God its not the 80s when soaps were still the rage with 3 times more soaps to choose from, highy rated with character driven stories with continuity and made sense…there is a reason they were called the Good Old Days…because they were GOOD…lol…actually soaps arent in the 21st…much of it has step backwards with far less location shootings and big production scenes…there was a lot more of those moments back then compared to today…soaps also didnt need fillers like they do today which drags the shows…back then you had a front burner storyline and as it neared conclusion another one would just be starting which kept you tuning in everyday…so glad i lived in those GOOD old days…just 3 networks and we had many soaps to choose from…today there is just 4…for now…not suOOOO good to me…lol

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Well suOOOO, the way you describe sports fan is almost exactly the way i am with soaps: i get angry and with great strength i smash my foam cup…after ive drunk all me choclate milk of course and a good burp, with a few naughty ‘Tartersauces’ that i picked up from that bad influence Spongebob Squarepants…my late mother would wash my mouth out with soap if she heard me say a nasty word like Tartersauce but it easly slips out of my mouth…lol…i know exactly what you mean when you say soap fans will write a post as long as War and Peace and whining, sniveling and complaining when watching their soap…wont let go like a dog with a a bone…i usually see that a lot with a ‘certain person’ whenever the subject is about Y & R…that same person rarely says a positive thing about that paticular show…its just entertaiment and that person should learn to have fun and enjoy it instead of the constant moaning and groaning just because Y & R arent written their way…great sex and a cold beer wouldnt satisfy a complainer like that…wouldnt you agree…lmfao!!!

To me, it’s whining! I’ve watched since 1979 and am satisfied with this writing regime. I’d never want to go back to Guza’s time!

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Jake…i agree…i woundnt want the Guzza years…i barely watched then…the current regime is somewhat better…however, as a longtime viewer of soaps ive seen even better and know GH could do better than it is doing now…if Y&R can attract over 4 million viewers why cant GH do the same…its the writing…i dont have great writing skills myself so its easy for me to tell when these shows writing isnt doing well…have you ever noticed when GH has some good moments the ratings rise then decrease when certain characters and their part of the story is featured…if the show would drop about ten characters and filler moments and focused more on continuity, i believe GH could either push B&B out of second place or at least tie…GH has good story ideas and can be entertaining some of the time…it should be that way all of the time…GH is better now than the Guzza years but it still has seen better days!!!

    Mary SF replied

But complaining is half the fun of watching a soap. Why do sports fans yell at their television when their team fumbles a play? Why do they call into sports radio telling the host what they would do if they were the coach or management? Because it is fun and they are passionate about their team– and likewise for a soap fan with their soap— Yeah, I get there is difference between good nature complaining and constantly bitching, but for the most part die hard soap fans have been complaining about their soaps since the beginning, just now we can do it on line instead at the hair salon, grocery store, dorm room, public transit etc LOL. So, I will stop complaining but not until sports fans stop complaining about their teams fair enough?

    Reply

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Mary, you are often right and make a lot of sense in your comments…we soap fans are no different than sports fans…we cheer when our soaps do well and groan when they do not…the same as sports fans…soap fans, however, dont get as aggressive or violent(well, a few who disagree with our comments do sometime sound like they could be…lol) like some of those sports fans who get so upset after a game doesnt go their way they start a riot and turn over cars and loot the local 7-11…lol…we watch our soaps as if we are watching our own families and just want whats best for them…and like our real families we will ‘bitch and complain’ when things we feel arent turning out as well as we know they should… it proves we care…and just like when we ‘bitch and complain’ about our soap families it also means we care about them too and want the best for them…enough said!!!

    su0000 replied

    wrong..
sports fans get angry and smash a beer can with a few %^#@**^% words..
They are over it quickly after a moment of outlet by whatever means works for them..
Their words on the subject are mostly F*** the Nancy he can’t kick a ball the Ref is blind, and so forth, not complaining just kicking it point blank , then it ends.

Soap fans will write a post as long as War and Peace whining, sniveling and complaining about everything they hate while watching their soap, watching by their own free will..
They don’t let it go.. like a rabid dog and a bone, not gonna drop it ahahahaa!
Perhaps the most angry ones should go and tip cows or tip cars and have a beer and great sex and be done with it..

Sport fans spend big dollars$$ to see a game, a lot goes into the procedure to make the day great..
so when it turns out ”we lost” they will kick it for the night and then it ends..
Soap fans attempt to analyze fiction and nitpick everything and get upset when the story is not written the way they want it written, and on and on it goes..

Nonetheless; it is all in the game :) :) I like it :)

    GH rocks!!

  6. aria says:

first and foremost, Anna needs to be on like 3 to 4 times a week, and not 1 time a week for several weeks, this is horrible that non contract players like DR.O gets more airtime. Second, they need her to solve some cases, and become more badass otherwise just give Mac back the commissioner job, at least we became use to him not solving any crimes, but to have Anna in the same boat is insulting. wheres the freaking balance. Third, it would be nice if Anna actually played a bigger role in raising Emma, after all that is the original reason she chose to stay in port charles after Robin “died”. fourth, why is Anna being played so straight and arrow? she use to be a spy, and playing for both sides use to be her job, why isn’t she doing anything possible to let the bad guys know that she runs this town not them. i’m not saying have Anna break the law, but damn, bended it little, and let Julian and Sonny know she’s the one who wears the pants/ skirt in this town and not them.

Completely agree with everything you wrote. Anna should be the central character on GH. She has not had a s/l this year and it is ridiculous that she has not solve a case especially when it involves Emma (car accident). Additionally, where is her concern for Robin her one great love in life. That alone is an abomination. Meanwhile we have Nina who has been on the show for merely 3 mos and practically involved in every storyline. Michelle S. was terrific on YR as Phyllis. I find Nina to be too cartoonish and have no care for her. I recently did a poll on twitter asking viewers who they would prefer on screen Anna or Nina. As of 1 1/2 days later with those who participated 49 – 6 prefer Anna (BTW, I only have 19 followers on twitter and more than half did not participate).

This is exactly right. Watch that clip. Watch Anna Devane.Watch how commanding Finola Hughes is. Watch her timing, he range of emotion, her acting choices. Not OTT. Not chewing the scenery. Not coming up with little ticks and affectations. And it is more than Finola as an actress. It is about the character as well. A character that she has developed over the years with great acting but has also been developed through great writing, except for now when she is thrown by the wayside.

How much better would GH be, if Anna Devane was taking down her long time nemesis Julian Jerome? If she was doing so with Duke Lavery. If Julian Jerome was not brought back as a protagonist, given a baby mama in Alexis and a daughter in Sam. Not involved with some guy named Fluke. If his sister Ava was not brought on as a means to create Kiki for Kristen Alderson and to take over the show for the first year she was on. If the Jeromes were brought on, as the bad guys they were, to infiltrate Port Charles and needed to be stopped by Anna and Duke and having them need to work with Sonny to do it? Wouldn’t that have been interesting?

But we have a situation where new characters are created and brought on to give new actors roles and to create a totally new show. One that does not utilize its rich history and characters in a meaningful way and when it does tap into GH history, it does so in a way that completely alters it. TPTB are in charge and can do this, but is it the best that GH can be?

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

More Anna…i agree…Duke, where is he…show is a little cartoonish…maybe Scooby Doo and his gang can show up and help Anna solve a case and why she hasnt had a real story and discover why some characters disappeared and havent been heard from in weeks…lol

GH has been better and at times, a lot worse. We as viewers see a couple problems that are talked about, quite often. Too many characters and not enough air time. I dont know who is to blame? Is it the money, the contracts, the writing? Anna is a hell of a character with connections to so many. She isnt on much, she isnt there for Patrick and Emma, never sees Mac, doesnt mention Robert, and who the hell knows where Duke is? Same with Laura. Her love of her life and her kids have or are going through hell and back and the character is not on the show. Maybe the actress isnt interested in acting, maybe she wants too much money, or maybe she isnt a fan of Cartini? Who knows but it just doesnt make sense. We are force fed James and Freako. Ned and Olivia are great. We didnt see them last week. Roger and Kin are pure gold in their scenes but they barely have any scenes together. Maybe Kin is only signed on to be part time? Why not have Bobbi take over Kellys? It gives her more screen time to rub elbows with other people in Port Charles. Speaking of Bobbi, she lied for Carly, Scott kind of spilled the beans to Franco and then NOTHING! Nothing else is written, no follow up scenes with the four of them? It just seems like viewers are left in the dark?

    Random thoughts…

…some fans may be complaining but the ratings continue to be great. As long as ratings are solid, writers will not change.

… I’ll take a little bit of Bobbie, Duke, etc over none at all.

… no soap writer gets to write whatever he wants for whoever he wants. There are contracts, guarantees, etc that are taken into consideration which is why some characters seem to disappear for a while. Frustrating, yes but not necessarily a writer’s choice.

… there’s a lot lot LOT more booing on these comment feeds than cheering. How about some of the naysayers tell us what keeps them tuning in every day?

    … opinion is not truth.

Pacing & continuity are GH’s biggest problems. I liken it to a child with a new toy….it gets played with constantly for a while and then forgotten, only picked up again ever now & then.

I believe a big part of the problem is the cast is just too big. It is almost impossible to play every character and story line with the same amount of air time when you are juggling 30+ of them. I also think that they only have Michelle Stafford for a limited time. It has never been said that she signed a 3 year contract. I would bet it is more 6 mos. to a year and they are playing the hell out of her while they have her.

As a OLTL devotee I was happy that RH & KA found homes with GH. But, I really feel that they are not especially dynamic in their new(ish) roles. Making RH Franco and then Todd-ing him up was a mistake. Franco should never have been resurrected. Too much baggage to turn the character, despite that stupid tumor story. Though, it is fun to see RH & Michelle Stafford together. They have chemistry I just do not see with RH & Laura Wright.

It makes me sad knowing that Ron & Frank helmed my favorite show, yet seem not to be able to steer GH on a clear course.
