He was a romantic idol in the 1950′s in Hollywood in movies for legendary directors Alfred Hitchock, Luchino Visconti, Anthony Mann, and Nicholas Ray, and his personal love life was most intriguing with some of Tinseltown’s most notable; from Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents, Shelley Winters, to Ava Gardner! But soap fans know him as the one time Dr. Will Vernon on One Life to Live back in 1976-1977. We are speaking of Farley Granger.
Granger died of natural causes at age 85 this past Sunday at his home in Manhattan. Granger was nominated in 1977 for Outstanding Lead Actor at the Daytime Emmys for his role on One Life. His soap tour did not stop there. Next he joined Edge of Night for a stint as Trent Archer in 1979-1980 and then his last soap town would be Oakdale and As the World Turns where he played Earl Mitchell. Earl was husband to Lisa, played by Eileen Fulton.
In 2007, he published his autobiography, “Include Me Out: My Life from Goldwyn to Broadway” with his longtime partner Robert Calhoun, a producer at ATWT and GL, who died in 2008. Our thoughts and prayers are with Granger’s family and friends.
