As we head towards New Year’s, On-Air On-Soaps looks back at the topsy-turvy year in soaps, and names those stand out moments that were at the head of the pack. Our choices comprise not only daytime soaps, but for the first time web soaps had the opportunity to be included. This year-end salute is presented to you with a Top 25 image countdown which pays tribute and honors those performances and moments that made us cheer, weep, throw things at the TV, and in our opinion, showed soap opera at its best. You can view our Top 25 Best Moments of 2010 Countdown Photo Gallery below, and see if your favorites made our list.

To view the final ten moments in the photo gallery, make sure to click on the “Next Group” button to the right of + symbol, which is next to the last image in the row of the first 15 photos, or you can sit back and relax and just watch the slideshow.  We hope you enjoy, and of course, welcome your thoughts on the Best Moments of 2010!

I like the wide variety of your Best Moments of 2010….but I heartily disagree with #1. I do not watch any of the other Soaps….but Stephanie suffering with breast cancer in the LA ghetto…or a memorial service for Palmer…or any of the other 15 or so I would choose before the violent & horrific crime of yet another shooting on GH…that of a man shooting another….whether he knew it was his son or not…IT. WAS. THE. TAKING. OF. A. LIFE….IT. WAS. MURDER. INTENDED.

My favorite was on GH with Robin finding out that Patrick cheated and threw him out. The whole time I felt Robin’s pain and cried with her. Kimberly McCullough was just amazing, as she hit every beat in every scene and Jason Thompson did a good job. It didn’t stop there as it continued for days with great performances. Too bad GH blew it when the FA psycho didn’t die. That ruined a great FA story. So many like myself were waiting for a payoff and got nothing,

I think Liz having her baby with Nic and the Sonny and Dante shooting was the best on GH

What about the emotional breakdown of EJ (James Scott) on DAYS after Rafe revealed that he was behind Sydney’s kidnapping which ruined his marriage to Samantha?! That should of made the list FOR SURE!! James Scott is an AMAZING actor!

RAFE was behind the kidnapping of Sydney? THAT I didn’t know!! Does Samantha know that as well? Now, I didn’t exactly want E J and Sammy to be together, but I did want them to have a friendly relationship for the sake of the kids. And here I was liking Rafe, and thinking that he was the best thing to have come down the pike in Ms. Brady’s life!!! F his arse!! To HELL with him!! I just hope that Sammy finds out about THIS piece of info, and KICKS Rafe OUT of her life!!!!!

No, Kelly meant that Rafe revealed that EJ was behind Sydney’s kidnapping, not Rafe! Your initial impression of Rafe was right :)

    Kelly replied

No…..Rafe showed up at EJ and Samantha’s wedding (just as they were about to be pronounced husband and wife…..DAMN IT!) with proof that EJ was behind Sydney’s kidnapping. I really want EJ and Samantha to be together, they have such awesome chemistry and their scenes are ALWAYS AMAZING!!

I am kind of glad neither Ejami or Safe featured. I want to like them but DOOL need to start spreading their wings some. The Alison Sweeney hour is a little silly given the cast they have. I was kind of shocked that Days featured at all but I guess there was no real way around including the Alice and Mickey Memorial sequences even if I do think both, but particularly the Alice series, was really poorly done by the show. A little like the entire production right now. Much potential, consistently falling short.

They should have included Nicole vs. Sami. Zucker is fantastic. She infuses the right amount of comedy, drama, camp and bitchiness in her performances. Sami punching Nicole was great. Zucker put a lot of nuances as Nicole was annoying Sami. I loved how Nicole grabbed the Christmas decoration and began hitting Sami! LOL. Sweeney’s high pitched screams were hilarious! It’s great when Sami gets owned. Days does the best catfights w/ Sami and Nicole bec they’re evenly matched, unlike say B&B’s Stephanie beating Brooke all the time. If Zuker ever leaves Days, she’d make a great Amber recast on B&B. That’d be 1 way to make the char of Amber palatable and she could probably teach her hubby Kyle Lowder how to act since he’s awful.

I remember sitting in my dorm room watching Sonny shoot Dante. Best soap opera moment ever. It was one of those moments when you know everything is about to change and it did.

The party boink ranked really high! LOL. Congrats to Conroy. They really should have kept him paired w/ KKL in a cougar arc. Now she’s acting w/ terrible actor Adam Gregory. Stephanie’s double slap of Brooke should be on this list! That was great, and such a Stephanie thing to do! Brooke of course could not physically defend herself. LOL. The worst list should be more fun!

I had hoped to see a clip of AMC- JR in the hospital during the cancer story, any number of scenes of Jacob’s flawless work. Otherwise, interesting choices. Of the shows I watch, not sure I agree with all the moments chosen.

I’m glad Van Hansis is in the 10 best moments, but he whould have been in the 5 first. Van Hansis is amazing, especially when playing emotional scenes and his Luke Snyder got a lot of emotional moments that made him go through such beautiful moments of TV.

I can’t believe the kiss and then Reid dying with Luke acting his very guts out was not #1.Van Hansis was beyond superb and you could hear our hearts breaking all over the world while we watched him lose the love of his life!ATWT had such a fan base and yet because of CBS and especially P&G who wanted ATWT And all their soaps over and done ,ATWT was taken off the air.No body acted so well alone or with Eric Sheffer Stevens as Van Hansis…..as far as Zack Conroy, he is well on his way…he has great looks and his acting is so easy to watch.However…..the sex scene with Brooke was so sickening and stupid….like she wouldn’t know it wasn’t Ridge and like Oliver would even choose to make love with Hope in such a place and not know that the body he was having sex with was not that of a virgin.Yes, I know it’s a soap, but I guess so many people want sleaze rather than quality.I do miss my ATWT and as a long time viewer, i think I always will!

While ESS and Van’s acting should be considered the best of 2010, the storyline itself should not even be close to the top. There were so many places where the writers got it all wrong.

I’m re-watching Luke and Reid’s story on YouTube, and you are so right. The characters weren’t acting in character, the dialogue was terrible and weird in some places, it was insane!

  12. miscrambler says:

Thanks for including Van Hansis’ performance in the list. The scene with Luke and Katie in the hallway of the hospital was so raw and visceral and powerful, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a “real” moment delivered by an actor before. Van is an astonishing talent; we were truly lucky to have a chance to let him grow along with Luke on ATWT. Also, I have to say, the Holden/Lily moment you described also backed a powerful punch, especially for those of us who remember their first onscreen meeting 25 years ago. Jon Hensley is a solid, unshowy actor. To see him become so emotional in that scene again brought home how powerful these dramas are and what a loss to all of us that so many of them have already or may shortly end.

I wish VH and ESS the very best and hope they win Emmy awrads for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. But, I sincerely wish that CG and JP (formerly on ATWT) should never even be nominated. And, It would be amazing if they are rated the worst ever team in soap history. They compeltely deserve that dishonor after they destroyed one of the most beautiful love stories (LURE) to ever grace the soap screen, with the horrendous ending.

Both great actors…I think Van deserves an emmy.he can choose from so many scenes to submit for a reel.He deserves to win more than anyone else! The ending was truly the worst I have ever seen.i can’t think about it anymore.I hope Van and Eric get so much work they’ll be overwhelmed! Loved LuRe and miss them! No other actors could have brought them to life like Eric and Van !!!!!

Van Hansis’ performances have to be first! Van Hansis did an mazing work and his acting is flawless in all his scenes. This is especially Van Hansis’ work when Luke cried for reid’s death that are VERY Outstanding. I don’t understand why you didn’t put Van Hansis’ performance in the first place, Michael!

First, Michael, I wanted to tell you that I listened to your live broadcast last night.I don’t know how you retain all that soap knowledge. Kudos to you. I think I agree that the number one moment that most affected me was the Van Hansis -Ess death scene. I was really choked up. Never the less, I don’t know if you can truly pick one over the other. Sonny shooting Dante not knowing Dante is his son was very powerful stuff.Plus the ramifications that followed. We were fortunate to have such quality moments this year. This is the stuff that keeps our soaps alive and hopefully will not fall on sponsors bias. Bravo to these soap writer’s. Hapy New Year,Michael, and thanks for giving the fans your articles and interviews with our favorite stars.

All of the moments chosen from GH were well placed and deserved. I still get chills whenever I watch the Sonny/Dante confrontation and Lucky confronting Liz/Nik. Also, Robin finding out about Patrick’s affair — stellar work. Great list, Michael!

The worst moment of not only 2010 but in daytime history was the abrupt and idiotic dismissal of the talented Brett Claywell and Scott Evans as Kyle and Oliver on OLTL.
the KISH love story was the best this show ever had and they are greatly missed…
