I believe the actors that are not coming back because of pure greed. The show will do fine without them & they will feel idiotic. Hopefully I’m wrong but that’s the only conclusion I can come up with why so many dedicated actors are back at OLTL.

Since I posted my original comment the last four on my list are now on board. I know Susan Lucci said scheduling, she loves Agnes and I believe wants to do it. But I am happy with who we have and look forward to seeing Pine Valley (and Llanview) again!

I’ll need to see more AMC vet casting announcements before I’ll believe it’ll be a success. I’m still uneasy how skimpy the cast list is compared to OLTL. I do have David and Cara and want to see their love/family story continued, that much I know! :)

Hooray! Can hardly wait this is so great. So many of my favorites back. It is unfortunate that a couple disgruntled actors and dueling Disney divisions have cast a pall over OLTL lately, because what Prospect Park is gearing up to achieve is really rather wonderful.

I am truly excited. I have been doing a lot of talking to Father Clarence over the past year and a half but hear no mention of him coming back. Sure hope he is a walk on for a few shows since he was the one to convince me that this was all possible. Just think, PP is the first to open this market for soaps. They are right there on top of the industry now and have millions of us following them. Don’t give up PP. We are here to back you. Ten years ago, nothing like this could have been accomplished. Times are changing. Sorry about your luck ABC. You have been left out of the loop completely. It was the soap fans that caused all your daytime shows to be cancelled. We stay true to what we believe in. We are now here for PP. Can’t wait.

I’m also concerned about the quality of the writing. It seems to be dictated on the actor “gets” they have. I’m wondering what kind of storyline they can tell on All My Children with such a disjointed cast. At least One Life to Live has a good core of characters.

I’m mildly hopeful for this reboot but I’m not happy about the cast members who went to GH being dragged back to what may only be a short lived experiment. I’m having a hard time getting my mind around a totally digital soap but it could be better than I think.

I’ll still believe this when I actually see it as I don’t trust Prospect Park after last year. Quite frankly, I’d be shocked (shocked!) if these so-called “reboots” last longer than a year, especially without a cable or syndicated TV outlet agreeing to pick them up and defray the costs. No matter what anyone here says, these soaps will have much lower production values and will almost certainly look nothing like they were when they were on ABC. They almost certainly will not survive on only internet advertising when the shows will still be fairly expensive to produce. It just does not add up and make economic sense,

Outside of the rabid die hards (who in reality are not as large a group as they continue to think/insist), I just don’t see enough casual former viewers (or new viewers, for that matter) going out of their way to take time to watch these watered down “reboots” on a computer screen, as the large majority of people moved on quite a while ago to other routines and/or don’t care anymore. Prospect Park will almost certainly need a large chunk of those people to come if this has any hope of mildly working and making $$$.

Also, if this project is not properly promoted to a mainstream audience, it has almost zero chance of working, IMO. After all, outside of online soap fans on message boards/websites, how many people actually know about these “reboots”? And if they do know, do they care? Quite frankly, I have my doubts. I’d like to be wrong, but I just don’t see any way that these “reboots” will work long-term and satisfy everyone.

Im just as skeptical as you are. But the reality is that the TV landscape is changing. I just started watching House of Cards on Netflix which is their first scripted series and its amazing. It did well enough to warrant a 2nd season. But I guess the difference is that I actually own a 3D/Internet TV so I have the luxury of watching these things on my tv. My concern is advertising. Just releasing press statements to the Soap Press wont be enough. They need to go big or go home. But this could also be an amazing time for Soaps just like it was when it transitioned from Radio to TV. But I do believe that more people watch soaps than are actually being counted. I mean the Nielsen ratings are so outdated and out of touch with the viewing public. I know someone that has a Nielsen box and it only lets you tally information for 1 TV in the household even though they have 3. If u look at ratings for many primetime shows they are all pretty low, but once you take into account 3day+ viewing from DVR’s all those ratings skyrocket up, and Daytime TV didnt take into account DVR viewing which always made me upset. To be honest if most Network TV wants to survive its time for them to change the way the Nielsens rate shows.

There is such a thing is Internet tv? Interesting. I have a flat screen HDTV but 3d gives hubby headaches so not going that root. Anyway first I hope soap fans get their wishes and I would never wish it not work out but….I don’t see it lasting long either. I just don’t see how they can pay actors let alone production etc on Internet ads etc….Also pp isn’t making friends with their recent actions with GH which makes me wonder how effective they will be at running these soaps. Anyway good luck to the fans.

@Kat Yeah the internet TV is under so many different names. Google TV, Smart TV, and whatever crazy name each brand has come up with for Wi-FI internet search TV’s. I cant lie, it cost me a pretty penny, but again I bought mine almost 2 years ago, so I def know the price has gone down. But I had to have it.

The other thing Im not getting is everyone keeps saying they need to resolve the Tale of Two Todd’s but it seems everyone keeps forgetting Trevor St. John is NOT signing on for this. So whats the point of having Todd, Starr, and John back if you dont have Victor. And they cant just explain it away off-screen because that would be a huge waste of viewers time. And I do agree that PP has a right to the characters because a contract is a contract, but good ole’ Money hungry Disney is the one that screwed BOTH parties. I think people need to direct there anger at the true culprit of all of this drama which at the end of the day is really Disney.

As for AMC, it weak.. IT will be whole lot of new everything..

It will be awesome to be able to see both soaps and cheer them both on !!
AND- we will be first to watch the first launching of TV like broadcasting to the internet..
sorta like being at Kitty Hawk with Wright Brothers LOL yah ..

I have been waiting for these shows to come back ever since they went off the air. I do not care that they will be on the internet. Very excited, can’t hardly wait. I have missed them ever since they went off the air on ABC. I do not watch any of the replacement shows. I do still watch General Hospital but if they take it off I will no longer watch anything on ABC in the daytime because all the other shows are boring.

I want to enjoy this. I want to loom forward to watching OLTL and AMC again but I can’t because of the fact that PP is strong -arming three OLTL actors. By taking away their livelihoods and banning them from working while this gets hammered out with ABC, PP is hurting the actors personally. That leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Yes, ABC never should have cancelled OLTL but they did and GH kept Llanview alive. For many long time fans of both shows, like myself, that meant everything after OLTL went off the air on Friday the 13th of 2012. It is because of GH’s high ratings and fan support that PP can revive OLTL now. Hurting the actors isn’t a way to garner support nor is it showing good faith to actors who PP wants to crossover. With this said, PP has handled this like a PR disaster and I don’t trust them. If they continue to hurt the actors or try to hurt GH, the last remaining ABC soap, I won’t watch. I wonder if hurting GH is their end game? Cut the momentum, make ratings tale a hit and get it cancelled. PP is run by a former ABC exec. I’m beginning to thing they want GH to fail.

Preach on Gillian. Exactly my thoughts too. I love oltl but trying to force the issues with GH is really upsetting me. They treat these actors as if they are objects and they have families and things to take care of and pp is causing them to be in limbo. It’s just plain wrong.

    Gillian replied

I did some more research yesterday and read some more info about the initial PP deal. Apparently PP was most interested in OLTL/GH but ABC/Disney would only sell AMC/OLTL as a package deal. According to this, PP was little interested in AMC? I’m taking it with a grain of salt but it makes sense since AMC reboot seems to be a younger, different show. If true, it also means PP wants GH. If it fails, they get GH. The report on Daytime Dish (HNY) also states that the Disney arm wants keeps forcing ABC daytime back with PP to renegotiate. I am skeptical but still wondering if this is a way for Disney to remove soaps from daytime and PP to get GH by sabotaging the show which has been thriving.

    Travis-Tyrell Thomas replied

Hey Gillian just throwing my two cents in. I was at the Sag-Aftra office a few days ago and this is being talked about a lot. But you also have to look at this from PP point of view. They paid for these characters. So by the law they have a right to them. Their beef isnt with the Actors, its with ABC Daytime/Times Square Studios. They paid a licensing fee to ABC Daytime/Times Square Studios for All the characters on OLTL. Now the reality is that when PP’s first attempt didnt work, ABC Daytime/Times Square Studios then licensed those 3 characters from PP for only ONE YEAR. But ABC Daytime/Times Square Studios knew this and was desperately trying to renegotiate an extension on those characters though PP, but they were shut down from the top of DISNEY who we all know owns ABC.

They were already working on an extension Deal with PP without bringing ABC to the table. I think so many people keep trying to blame this side and that side. At the end of the Day the Money stops at Disney who could care less about the 3 actors or ABC Daytime/Times Square Studios. Trust me if Disney wanted those shows to stay, they would still be on the air, they just care about the money they are gonna rake in from PP, and it doesnt help that one of the owners of PP is besties with the top Exes at Disney, considering he is a former employee.

But the reality is that as a business PP did pay for something that by Contract law they have a right to. But I also see the other side as an actor, the actors are caught in the middle. I think Disney should had all the parties at the table and this all could have been avoided. But as a fan I really hope and want these ventures to succeed, but as an actor Im like stay on the network show. There is more visibility there. I mean seriously no agent in their right mind would tell their client to leave a network show to go to an online show. So you cant hate the actors either.

So can you hate PP for wanting what they paid for? Can you hate the actors for wanting to stay on a show with a better pay scale and more visibility? Can WE hate Disney for letting these shows get cancelled in the first place???? Haha
