44 August 13th, 2013 RATINGS: All My Children and One Life to Live’s Summer Fling On OWN!

Courtesy/TOLN

The ratings are out for the week of August 5th -August 9th for All My Children and One Life to Live’s continuing summer fling on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN television cable network!

This was the first week of the OWN programming scheduling change for AMC and OLTL, that had AMC stay in its 1PM slot and moved OLTL up to a 1:30 slot immediately following AMC.   So now viewers can get a much cleaner picture of the ratings and total viewers since there are no more repeat episodes sandwiched in front of, or after the new episode of the day.

When looking at the breakdown by day, All My Children scored an impressive Tuesday and Wednesday, while both shows continue to be strong in their numbers in comparison with the previous ratings week.   Check out the numbers courtesy of TV Media Insights below!

All My Children

Tue Aug 6 1:00PM 0.2 HH, 216,000 total viewers
Wed Aug 7 1:00PM 0.2 HH, 276,000 total viewers

I havent watched OLTL since early July but glad these shows are doing well…people will still watch soaps on the network which is proof the genre isnt dead…i like soaps on network better but also like watching online too, and on demand, especially if i missed something…glad we have a choice how to watch which serves our individual needs.

Is this good or bad? Is OWN going to keep the shows on regularly ? Hope so!

OLTL is must-watch TV for me. OWN’s new schedule for it and AMC is a good idea, IMO, but it’s a shame they can’t repeat the same day’s episodes later that night or over-night. These series need all the exposure they can get.

Michael, can we get an analysis of these ratings? Have the shows lived up to expectations? What are the ratings like on iTunes & Hulu? It would be nice to know what the ratings mean.

I haven’t watched OLTL in a while but AMC is amazing! I’m falling in love with my favorite soap all over again. Shout out to Debbi Morgan, Darnell Williams, Vincent Irizarry and the rest of the cast and crew! I’m at all not surprised AMC’s doing so well in the ratings. Hope AMC keeps up the good storytelling and it continues to well in the ratings.

I still do not see these numbers on OWN being a mandate for more. I hope I am wrong. I have watched OLTL through episode 53. I have watched OLTL on and off since 1977 or 1978 when I was a little girl. The regime under Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati was superb.

Sadly, PP’s production of AMC and OLTL appear to be typical operations run by Jeff K. . It appears to me that the blessings came from Richard Frank, former Disney executive and NATAS leader. He has an interesting interview on the Emmy Foundations Oral History archive recorded in December 2012.

It is interesting to hear his plan and intention at that time. He has a sterling reputation and would not want to risk damage by a false step and major lawsuits with ABC. What ultimately becomes on the TOLN is up for consideration. However, these shows are not going to be cash cows on which a new platform can be built.

But in the end, there has been lots of discussion and press with a ready made fanbase for 9 months or so. Whatever has been invested will serve as a significant launch of a platform.

I hope that there is another act for both AMC and OLTL. But I would not count on it. It would be marvelous as a part of a settlement of any lawsuit is that ABC would gain OLTL rights again. Perhaps, TOLN could keep AMC – The Next Generation. There are financial advantages for starting a new show versus a continuation. Frank mentions this in the Archive interviews.

It could be a win-win – maybe. Without leadership of someone of the calibre of Frank Valentini, a turnaround for OLTL is unlikely at this point. So, I am thankful for the efforts and hope for a new solution set soon.

    What you do not seem to be skipping;
    The soaps are .. reruns…

Most all fans have seen the soaps that are running on OWN, and do not go back for seconds..
To have numbers that high for reruns, is excellent.. (especially from daytime viewers)

Hopefully some of those numbers are ”new” viewers..

It is very good to be having those high numbers for reruns ..

Exactly! What people are forgetting is that these aren’t first-run episodes…these are reruns that the soap fans have already seen. If these were new episodes, I’m sure the numbers would be much higher.

    su0000 replied

    .
Yes! for reruns being rerun for daytime viewing, the numbers are really good!!
Not many do not like reruns nor daytime viewing..

IF, OWN ran the current soaps (not the reruns) in an evening time slot, they would get tons of new viewers..

    Margie replied

Ron, is that you? You’re probably still mad that your shirtless Ford boys stories were dropped, and that your ridiculous version of clowny Todd was corrected. PP is getting everything right and it’s only getting better this fall. More good new on the way for OLTL.
Ratings win all over the place. Not so much for GH.

It’s good to see that both show’s are doing exceptionally well on both “OWN” & their online homes via Hulu & iTunes. The ratings if I’m understanding them correctly is proof that the new versions of both AMC & OLTL are indeed getting their groove back. Did someone call Stella? I hope that @Susan Lucci, makes a pit stop in Pine Valley to check on her daughters & grand daughter. Though, I’m not sure how likely that will be considering she’s juggling two shows at once. However, like it or not “Pine Valley” is her home and that is where her heart may very well be again at some point.

I agree…wish that Susan Lucci was back on AMC, but you’re right I think it seems unlikely right now. I really don’t want her to just “pop in” for a cameo visit like Kendall did, what does that do for us? AMC needs help, it’s all right but it is lacking the “heart” of the ABC-TV inception. I hate to say that since I like many others are still furious with ABC but to me it’s an honest fact. I miss familiar faces on AMC and some of the re-casting hasn’t thrilled me nor has the writing but I am hoping things will improve.

I am a longtime OLTL fan who found it difficult to watch online have “caught up” on OWN. I can honestly say the AMC storylines are more compelling. I think the storylines for “season 2″ need to be more dramatic. and surprising. Have John McBain come to town and get killed or something. Fast paced needs to also be SHOCKING to attract online viewers.

Oprah hasn’t had such high ratings till now! Because of OLTL & AMC … Well if she had
put them on her own channel from the begining her station wouldn’t have had low ratings & Oprah wouldn’t had to let go the employees on her channel.

I love OLTL and I do watch the reruns on OWN when I am off from work every other Friday. I do wish Oprah would repeat the shows at night because I love OLTL, since like AMC is doing good but I would say OLTL does not begin to be must see tv/internet until episode 40, it goes back to its basic soapy formula and has a lot of surprise twist.

I hope Oprah does choose to show these shows past 40 episodes because after episode 40 of OLTL I think the shows have been excellent.

Why oh why does Oprah have these shows airing at the same time as soaps on major networks, they should air immediately after GH!

    Reply

    su0000 replied

    Actually;
Both the soaps should air during the evening, on OWN, when people are home to watch them..
Daytime viewing is terrible, not many people are home in this 21st century to watch during the daytime.
I do not believe any soap should be daytime viewing, they all should be evening, perhaps on cable..

Maybe it will negate her negative press due to the “Switzerland” incident with the purse.

I used to watch both AMC and OLTL religously until they went of air. When they came back I started streaming from my computer. I lost interest in AMC because so many characters were replaced or didn’t return which made it less interesting for me. I’m still giving OLTL a chance and now watching on the OWN network. I hope my show has found a new home with OWN.

I love both shows but I have to say OLTL is my favorite. I watch all new episodes of OLTL but AMC seems to be made up mostly of young kids which some of them is okay but I have watched AMC since the first and I am more interested in the characters I was invested in when it was on ABC. I know it is impossible to get every character back because the actors have gotten other jobs but I would prefer to have more storylines about original cast members and more of them.
I would love it, love it, if PP would have one hour episodes everyday of OLTL. Two episodes as they are of AMC is okay until they bring back more characters to flesh out the storylines, like Tad.
As I said, I love both AMC and OLTL and mourned them when they went off ABC and was so glad when PP brought them back. I will continue to watch and cheer them on and will watch them online with Hulu, iTunes or OWN wherever I can watch. Keep them coming.

If you don’t like the new AMC fine but to suggest they increase airtime for OLTL but not for AMC is a bit much. There are a lot of people who enjoy the new AMC as evidenced by the ratings. AMC is even doing better than OLTL. Personally I prefer AMC to OLTL but I would never suggest that they not increase airtime for OLTL because I respect the fact that OLTL has many fans that enjoy watching it.

I really didn’t expect to watch the AMC/OLTL reruns on OWN as I pay for them on iTunes and watch them downloaded on my iPad. But to my surprise, I am loving watching them again on my big-screen TV! Today I was home from work during the day and even got to watch AMC at 1 p.m. like in the old days. I have to tell you that when I’m home during the day I make a point of not turning the TV on during that time slot, just out of sorrow for the loss of my soaps–until today! A side benefit to the OWN channel is that my DVR isn’t recording anything else during the day, so when I get home, the channel is tuned to OWN, and I find myself watching regular live programming on the channel too. I had never watched this network before I started recording the AMC/OLTL reruns. So thank you, Oprah!

Very pleased that they have been picked up by OWN, but I have always only allowed myself to get addicted to one show and that is All My Children. I don’t watch the other because I limit myself. I feel certain that it is an excellent show, but once a person gets hooked on a show it is hard to give it up.

Oh No!! Am I wrong? I have been doing some checking … it looks like All My Children and One Life To Live will no longer be on OWN after Thursday, Sept 19th. I believe that is the LAST DAY! OWN stated that both soaps would be on a ten week limited run beginning on Mon, July 15.
So if you count ten weeks … it ends on Thurs Sept 19. I AM DEVASTATED! I guess the ratings must have been very low because it looks like OWN will no longer air AMC and OLTL as of Mon, Sept. 23. If I am wrong, I apologize!

What happened to AMC? Is it true that the series ended in September? No warning or anything. I am very disappointed. After 43 episodes, to leave its fans hanging was unforgiveable. Can fans be informed ? What about this ten week run? I am so sad about the situation? what fans do, if the show is closing after 10 weeks?
