78 February 18th, 2013 RATINGS: Another Solid Week For The Young and the Restless & The Bold and the Beautiful!

The ratings are out for the week of February 4th through February 8th, and it was once again the CBS Daytime one-two punch of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful that brought in the most viewers for the week!

Looks like Y&R is returning to its high ratings indicative of its number one rated status!  The folks in Genoa City total viewers numbered 4,764,000, with an increase of +66,00o for the ratings period.  Y&R also scored its highest numbers under the Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith regime in the women 18-49 key demographic with an impressive +930,000 for the week and also led in that demos ratings share!  Is the Dylan/Avery/Nick story captivating audiences? Or, is it some of the other storylines, such as the Michael/Lauren/Fen/Jamie bullying story?

Over at The Bold and the Beautiful, this show continues to show consistent gains almost every week, even after suffering the loss of longtime series stars, Susan Flannery (Stephanie) and Ronn Moss (Ridge)!  B&B’s  total viewers for the ratings period came in at 3,588,000, and they added +51,000 for the week!  Is Hunter Tylo’s new attitude Taylor giving the show a lift? Or, is it the Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle, now that Steffy is pregnant?

General Hospital who is bringing back all the big returns in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary, ushered in fan favorite Jack Wagner as Frisco Jones during the ratings week.   The return of Wagner scored GH its highest viewer total for the week on Monday.  However, GH while still holding strong with 2,818,000 total viewers, lost a few viewers for the rating period with – 29,000.  But the lone ABC soap gained viewers in the key 18-34 female demo, as did all of the other three daytime soaps!

Days of our Lives, whose stories seem to be percolating and getting better, lost the most viewers for the week with -52,000 with total viewers at 2,572,000.  To view the entire ratings picture via Soap Opera Network click here!

    No Taylor not doing it for me. All Taylor does is look so Pathetic with her ranting that Brooke Stole Ridge from her. Bell making her look like a fool. I am watching for the Triangle of Hope/Liam/Steffy.

    I agree. Do not like Taylor and Eric – they are turnin Taylor into another Brooke Hogan. I also watch for Steffy/Liam/Hope (not so much Hopeless – want to slap her). I love what they are doing with Steffy’s character – she is becoming a woman of substance – something lacking on B&B.

    Drucilla was on Y&R not B&B. She was a gret character and a fine actress, she spent to much time complaining and causing problems. It’s a shame as I agree with you on how she would blow the ratings out of the water. Some people have it all and allow their opinions to ruin things.

    I really don’t like Victor anymore. He is not fun to hate like the past! He needs to retire with Nikki and let it go already. Chelsea being pregnant again WHY??????? This is NOT a front character! The dynamic duo love team is Sharon and Adam! I think it would of been right for Sharon to give Adam his first real heir! The money thing with Chloe and the cop and his sister and Noah please be done already.

    Love Taylor! She is the reason many viewer started watching Bold in the first place and so many years later, she and her fans are still going strong!

    Congrats to Bold for the bump in ratings! Keep on showing the lovely Hunter Tylo! She should NEVER be on back burner. Mrs. Tylo is STRICTLY FRONT BURNER MATERIAL!!!

    I’m watching Y&R again after a 2 year absence Loving it!! I’m hoping for a Sharon/Nick reunion. Loving the recasts by JFP (JFP is the reason I began to watch again). I loved her telenovela Hollywood Heights on Nickelodeon – I hope she brings the male lead from HH – Cody Logo – to Y&R.

    It would be nice for a Sharon and Nick reunion but Sharon needs to give Adam a heir first. Neil needs only Drucilla. No matter what they try we can’t except Leslie or anyone else with Neil :)

    I can see why DAYS is losing viewers. Where are the veterans? Deidre, Drake and Kristian Alfonso without anything to do meanwhile we have to suffer through Daniel/Jen/Chloe which is a super snoozefest galore! Days listen to your fans for once in your lifetime. The show is so unbalanced!

Just ’cause Peter wanted to leave doesn’t mean it should be the end of this vibrant character Hope! And Abe?? hmm.. I guess hanging out with Bo in the attic.

    I agree, Marlena and John deserve better storylines that this repetitive crap that makes both look incredibly stupid! I also was liking the Abe & Kayla storyline, but we haven’t seen him for weeks! Luckily, he’ll be on next week. Hope is as underutilized as Lucas! I can see why Billie left!

    I don’t even know why they brought MBE back to pour coffee and work at the hospital – I would love Stephen to return but only if DAYS gives their characters respect. I certainly don’t have faith in that though with the treatment of our faves. Kristian, Dee, Drake, James, Bryan..they all deserve better!

    Shane – Charles Shaugnessy. who would have been so good with Billie… ala Lissa Rinna… since that won’t be happening..

    what about giving LIFE to Hope or Jennifer…. I honestly think this is the only way… we can resuscitate these women. Shane is a beloved, hero, original core character…. yes, at the expense of Kimberly… but she can return after the fact… but, Hope and Jenn, IMO, can’t make it on their own or with any one else… unless it’s Jason Brooks…. talk about stimulating all their senses again…. A Horton and a Brady.

    DAYS – Abe and Kayla have that connection…. giving the older fans, who long for the core characters some story to chew on…. LOL…. these two will work…. course, make Fay alive… and, we’ve got plenty of material….

    I was liking Abe & Kayla but they must have gotten freaked out about backlash or something. I see Days is hiring an African American woman to play a DA or lawyer? Maybe for Abe – and Will & Gabi’s child case.

    Ooooh, I’d love to see Jason Brooks back. How dynamic would that be in the “D” mansion. Does anyone live in that mansion? I don’t think they’d have Jason back though ….

    Love Charlie Shaughnessy but his last visit wasn’t all that exciting because Days is incapable of properly writing for him. Jen is pathetic following Dr. Dull around. How the heck did Days think he’s the better match for her. Still waiting for Jack to come back from the dead :)

    I like the two Y&R storylines referenced in the report, and I hope to see less Newman craziness. Please, the over-the-top downright evil machinations of Victor Newman are tired. Some sort of redemption or humanization for his actions other than selfish greed would be welcome. The man could not even legitimately say, “I did it for you” to any member of his fractured family. I am glad to see strengthening of the Abbott clan, and an attempt at new characters and plots outside those bland boardrooms. Just straighten it out somehow and move forward, please.

    As for B&B… really?

    Loving the refreshed revived and renewed GH.

    Yes, even DAYS is looking good.

    and of course they are recycling Jack and Phyllis too..
    The writers always recycle old worn out couples, nothing new and exciting..

    Same with Victor and Nikki the most recycled couple ever..

    Does Days finally get that they need writers that will write the storylines for the characters and NOT re-write the characters for the storylines? Viewers all over the web are saying that they’re not watching…Twitter, Facebook…letter writing campaigns. Clearly we’re tuning out because we don’t like what we see. Forced pairings, and love triangles that are beyond boring. That coupled with the clear disrespect of the history of the show & characters as well as the blatant disrespect for the viewers? Mr. Corday needs to fire Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell and bring on writers who know how to write a soap, not ones that rely on gimmicks and ratings ploys like TomSell do too easily.

    You are right Days has lost their ability to write a good romance story. I don’t know if any of the writers have ever been in love, but it seems on Days more than anywhere else, characters change their partners as quickly as they change their underwear. Look at poor Nicole- first she is madly in love with EJ, then out of the blue she is madly in love with Daniel and now she seems to be madly in love with Eric. It is hard to take her feelings seriously when they alter so quickly.

    Having characters say they love someone, does not make it love- love is based in actions. When you are in love you will want the best for the one you love, more than your own interest, but on Days most of the characters only think about what they want.- infatuated with being in love, but no idea how to love anyone.

    John and Marlena, Bo and Hope, Jen and Jack, Abe and Lexie, Kim and Shane, and Patch and Kayla- those were romances, those were love stories- if Days could get real love and romance back onto the screen-mature love rather than immature form they are selling now- it would help their cause a lot.

    I agree. All its about is switching couples back and forth with barely any drama. I also thought Sonny hooking up with Brian already happened too fast. Rafe with Kate too, and i dont buy it.

    I agree. My problem is that there’s no romance on the show anymore. There is no “making love” on the soap, everyone just has sex! The difference is that people sleep together not because of feelings or love, but for revenge. Sami slept with EJ because she was mad at Rafe and he left her. Rafe and Kate were both upset for different reasons and got drunk and had sex. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they slept together two more times after that, while sober. Sonny almost had sex with Brian because he was mad at Will. The writers need to stop treating sex like it’s so insignificant. We want to see real loving couples and emotional, meaningful lovemakings. The show might as well be renamed “The Sex of Our Lives”.

    I agree with all of you on the current status of Days story telling. Romance has long since disappeared from this soap. I had great hope for Sonny and Will. They seem to be the closest we have to romance right now. I hope they can work it out.

    That’s pretty impressive for YR in the 18-49 crowd. Don’t know why…..could it really be because of Steve Burton???…..but can’t argue that it’s a pretty great jump for them in that demographic.

    I think DAYS’ numbers will rise too with EJami being on, and it couldn’t come at a better time. Also hoping the great stuff with Kristen, Will/Sonny/Nick, Rafe/Kate and Nicole/Eric will entice more eyeballs. The show is really great right now (DanJenChloe excluded) and they deserve it reflected in the numbers.

    I’m glad the hooplah over big name returns isn’t doing much for GH. Big names will only do so much if the story and writing backs them up. The cast is so over-bloated I’d be surprised if you’re seeing characters at all, or just a cascade of different voiced and coloured people zoom in and out of the screen in a lame attempt to fit everyone in. I’m just so over this show. Nothing will excite me with this show until Kimberly McCullough returns for longer than a day’s stint and Robin is properly reunited with Patrick (….and though that’s not the show’s fault, they haven’t done anything with any of the other characters to make me enjoy them as much, and want to tune in as much, as that couple did). Until then, I will happily continue my boycott.

    And BB…..will wonders ever cease?

    GH is far better than Days and the ratings prove it. Most vets returns is 4 the shows 50th and their stay is brief. If Days learn to use their vets, and stop casting them aside like useless props maybe they wouldnt be no.4 which they deserve at the moment. Every once in awhile Days can be entertaing but thats only like one episode a week. I know it could do better because after watching it since the 1960s ive seen better Days and it could be that way again.

    If ratings indicated anything, we ALL know B&B would be dead last so your argument about where DAYS is VS GH is just doesn’t add up.

    DAYS has always been good at using their vets, and in fact historically has had a waaaaay better track record with them than GH, who only under Valentini/Carlivati’s regime are finally getting screentime. The last one (which was around for over a decade) KILLED off all the vets they had, and seldom invited any of them back (and when they did, talk about using them like “useless props”…my goodness! The messes they made of Holly, Robert, Anna [oh Anna! She didn't want to be a grandmother!], AJ, Laura etc etc were disastrous!). No, if ANY show was using their vets as “props” I think you need to look no further than GH and the overly hyped casting of a dozen and a half old faces to be used so heavily before the 50th birthday there’s not enough time to fit each and everyone in, and discarded the 3rd day of the 50th year.

    DAYS over GH for me. It hasn’t always been that way, but years of disappointment have made me resentful of GH and loyal to DAYS.

    I agree. Right now, EJami and Dannifer are killing the show. We want to see the vets and romances, not love triangles and the same characters everyday. This is why the ratings are not higher.

    EJAMI are not killing the show but I do agree about Dannifer. The ratings were even lower when SAFE were together. I cannot stand that couple AT ALL. I want to see the vets back such as Carrie and I would love it if Jack came back again to break up Dannifer. The Rafe and Kate thing did not help at all. That was just disgusting.
    Anyways to the real topic- Kudos to Josh Griffith on Y & R. I have always heard really good things about him and his writing style is amazing. The Nick/Dylan/Avery triangle is way more interesting than anything on DAYS.

    On GH bringing back the vets, even if brief, and anxiously waiting for the nurses ball and seeing how that turns out. But what happens when there is no more vets to bring back and the nurses ball is over to keep us tuning in? GH is known for disasters….will the nurses ball end in one? What do FV and RC have planned after all the current hype dies down.? Im enjoying whats happening now and hate to see it end. I believe the nurses ball will give GH some great ratings gain for the week of April 1, but are they planning anything to hold on to those possible gains, so GH can continue its success?

    That is not right..
    Y&R is dull dull dull there is no real drama not even one villain to spice it up..
    It is all about Newman business and couples problems, and for past 12 years the same couples changing partners.
    the bully story was only story worth mention ..
    Y&R is the same old thyme and has become way too predictable and empty of drama..
    The only reason Y&R and B&B have had the unbelievable ratings for years on end is because Y&R and B&B is shown in 36 countries.. That has something to do with it, is the only way they can remain #1 with twice as many viewers than all the other soaps because both are just not that good to be #1 for 20/howevermany years..
    I watch mainly out of habit ..

    I watch it everyday and LOVE the show. I will not miss an episode it is better than its been since William J. Bell was the show runner. Just my opinion, but they deserve to be number #1

    Totally agree with you su0000. THE only reason why Y&R has stayed at the topped for so long is because it’s available in more countries than the other soaps. I have always thought it to be so laughable, they way they throw that #1 status around…..when it all boils down to just being available in my countries. Since the network demise of AMC & OLTL, I have been tuning in, just to get my daily soap fix, but I am sick to death of B&B and find myself disgusted with Y&R….sick of the indecisiveness of Liam, and these stupid girls for putting up with him. I mean, come on, is Liam the only guy available in LA? Move on ladies…. Then Y&R has lost me with Nick whoring around with every woman in Genoa City. How do you end up with your ex-wife’s sister? I hate that story. Liked him a lot more with Phyllis…and I was just counting the days before they have Sharon hooking up with Avery’s ex…..saw them crashing into each other today, so we know it’s just a matter of time before she’s in bed with him. Or what’s worse is, she’ll be in the accident, and have both Nick & Adam fighting over her, at the foot of her hospital bed….LOL It’s so ridiculously boring. I can’t wait for OLTL to come back.

    Now, I am totally enjoying GH.. there are good guys and very bad bad guys, never boring and most days I do not know what will happen next, it’s always exciting with lots of variety and I like that a lot, also..
    And GH brings back many of the vets and that makes me smile.
    And GH has a good pace and no long long long drawn out stories..

    I know what will happen on Y&R before it happens and I am spoiler free ..
    lol no surprises on Y&R, ever..

    I agree with you … Y&R is so dull, dull, dull, right now….I am sooo sick of Sharon and Adam…doesn’t make any sense after he humiliated her on her wedding day and then she destroyed Newman that she would be allowed in Newman at all ..it makes me too mad to watch anymore…and the Dylan/Avery/Nick story …yawn yawn yawn …Avery is Phyllis’s sister …stupid …

    Could the writers of Y and R POSSIBLY give Sharon a new love interest that would make her leave Adam alone? Adam and Chelsea would be great if Sharon wadnt in the picture, he is a better man when he is with Chelsea. Give us a break please, no more Adam and Sharon, been there, done that!!!

    I have watched and loved Y&R since I was a kid. It was beautiful character driven soap up until the mid/late 2000′s. The regimes of LML and MAB nearly destroyed the crown jewel of daytime. I am glad the ratings have stabilized and somewhat improved because Y&R was my soap for so long. Having said that, I just don’t like it anymore. It’s boring, and I don’t like the new characters. It has quickly become the Avery show. I like her, but she is over-exposed recently. Also, Steve Burton was well received on GH, but that doesn’t make this new character a good fit for Y&R. Didn’t the show learn its lesson with prior casting of former abc stars?

    By the way, I am loving GH, and I’m thrilled my favorite show ONE LIFE TO LIVE is returning. Y&R sure could use a Cartini.

    I love watching Y&R Michael/Lauren/Fen/Jamie in the bullying storyline and the rest of people storyline but I am not interest in the Dylan/Avery/Nick storyline at all the only reason I started watching Y&R in the first place to watch phick Nick and Phyllis need to get back together.

    I don’t get it. B&B is beyond BORING and Y&R is good but not great. I certainly don’t worry about missing an episode of either one. On the other hand, GH is ON FIRE and simply FANTASTIC and I not only wouldn’t want to miss an episode but I tape them every single day just to be sure that I don’t!!!!!

    I totally agree..B&B with the triangle that wouldn’t die..why do those Bell soaps always have a male at the center of triangles?? Y&R & Victor is disgusting..so are all the Newmans..so judgemental when they are so flawed..I don’t understand the writing for either of those soaps..GH is the one I can’t miss,,,I even like DOOL better than B&B and Y&R..I DVR all the soaps but FF thru Newmans & Steffy, Liam, Brooke & Taylor..what a bunch of loonies…are you serious?..

    I think Y&R has the right formula for attracting women by having them not pining and fighting over men all the time like B&B does. Y&R is triangle free for the most part and when it does happen, there are transitions. I get whiplash from watching Liam bounce between Steffy and Hope. For once we would like to see a young couple like Liam and Steffy have a storyline that has nothing to do with another woman. Would be very interesting to see them deal with a pregnancy, work and changes in their lifestyle and romance.

    As for Taylor and Eric, ick factor at first, but now I see it as an opportunity to portray an older generation with real old fashion romance. How about some nights of dancing, dining, walks, and nights by the fire before the beds heat up. Please give Eric and Taylor both a updated haircut and let the fireworks begin.

    I am loving having more Taylor time on my screen on B&B. The Steffy/Liam/Hope triangle does nothing for me. Enough already let’s see Liam pick Steffy and they raise their baby together leaving Hope out in the cold where she belongs! Taylor’s new attitude has been a long time coming it’s great to see her finally coming out on top again! Taylor is the best actress on the show hands down, kudos to Brad Bell for finally listening to his fans!

    Y&R is awake again. Up and running. Picked up the pace, gave Katherine and Nikki solid storylines. Steve Burton is cooking… Lauren’s new boy toy…get his shirt off. Now if Days can just pick it up a bit.

    I was spellbound by the Michael/Lauren/Fen/Jamie bullying story until the writers turned it into just another cheating story with Lauren and the Ick factor Carmine..Why would they ruin such a great story with the same old crap..I feel like MAB is back at the hlem. totally disillusioned by the turn this story is taking..No justice for Jamie and no redeeming of Fenmore cause Mommy is to busy sucking up wine and suck face with a dumb meatheaded bartender..they have ruined it

    I have been enjoying Days more since EJ/Sami, Nicole and Eric, did not even mind Kate and Rafe as a brief fling/affair, and of course, I love Will and Sonny although they are going through a rough patch right now. Will be interesting to see how the ratings are since they have started Ejami, Nicole/Eric. I think Days has improved somewhat. I hope the ratings reflect that, and they will keep going in the right direction writing good storylines and romance.

    The latest ratings prove that, since EJami got together, the ratings have gone down. The problem with DAYS is that there isn’t really romance on the show, just love triangles. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, though.

    Dmitri the ratings were even lower when SAFE were together. You once said it yourself that a couple doesnt make or break a show. Boring Dannifer are on more than EJAMI. The Rafe and Kate thing was awful and also Wilson are having problems. A combination of all these can lead to low ratings. In addition, Nick’s character is just not interesting and Im just plain bored with the show. Despite the fact that we have EJAMI my favourite, I am not watching the show either.

    Yes Avelina. Read my post down below and you will see that I didn’t just blame EJami for low ratings. Actually, in 2008, EJami nearly cancelled the show. And who brought up the ratings? SAFE! About.com recently had a poll asking fans if the proposal for EJami disappointed. Some said yes, some said no, but MOST said “I don’t care, I want Sami with Rafe”.

    Do not blame EJAMi for that. It was EJOLE that nearly got them cancelled. After MAy 2008, EJOLE got together and it went downhill from there. Dont speak for the general audience because not everyone wants Sami with Rafe. EJOLE was sooooooo bad in that year and ratings proved that.

    If EJole were the cause for the ratings to decline, then why did the ratings remain high when they stayed togeether, in addition to the fact that when Rafe was paired with Sami, the ratings went up? The answer is simple: People are TIRED of Sami and EJ ALWAYS on the show (not necessarily together, separately too). And people are now tired of EJami, we want to see more vets. EJole are a very popular couple on the soap with a big fanbase. If EJami was so popular right now, the ratings would be higher (as the fanbase promised) and they would’ve won the polls on About.com instead of SAFE.

    I do not understand this at all. General Hospital is the best soap on the air by a long way; why on earth is it down in the ratings while The Bold and the Beautiful which has been a pile of crap for the majority of the last 2 years goes from strength to strength!?

    B&B has a terrible cast, terrible storylines – what is it about this show that is attracting viewers? I’m not a B&B basher, from 1997 until 2010 I considered it my all time favourite show and even donated over $1000 to charity in 2003 for an opportunity to meet the cast and watch an episode being filmed, but at the end of the day, this show has been flushed down the crapper.

    DAYS has also been very good recently and yet that loses viewers too!

    Y&R is the best it’s been in a while, but it’s nowhere near as good as GH.

    I see that DAYS has lost ratings. For me, there’s nothing good about the show. It’s not even that I hate EJami, but all the other storylines are SO BORING! Dannifer just got together after the Nicole thing, only for Chloe to interfere. So, from one Dannifer love triangle to the next? Dannifer and EJami get too much airtime, while the other people, notably the vets, are backburnered. The Gabi and Kristen storylines were interesting at first, but now they’ve just really dulled down. They have the same conversations each episode. Kristen teases Marlena, Gabi worries about her future. Then the next episode, Kristen runs into Marlena and taunts her, Gabi tells Nick she worries for their future…OK, can we see something else? Nicole’s storyline is OK, but it is moving SO SLOWLY! And it really isn’t all that good, though I’ll take it over anything else on the soap. But another huge problem I have with DAYS is that there’s no romance! People only have sex to get revenge, or because they are sad, never to “make love”! Sami tells Lucas he “is home” to her, then says to Rafe “EJ means nothing to me compared to you” then tells EJ “we’ve had it from the start”…All in under a year…who is this woman? Why was one of the best villainesses reduced to a lowly bed-hopping tramp? Let’s not forget that AWFUL romp between Kate and Rafe! What was that about! And the characters are written out of character. Nicole is turning into a goody two shoes. Rafe and Brady are both acting dumb, along with Gabi and Daniel. Chloe is now a bad girl. Jennifer has become a liar. EJ is a boring good guy and cosmetics manager. Sami is a slut. John abandonds his wife, who does nothing but whine about Kristen, and Maggie is up in everyone’s business. Sonny is kissing other men when he’s lost the love of his life, Nick is a homophobe…WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SOAP!!!???

    My theory is that Stefano has somehow found a way to transport Marlena into an alternative universe and by May sweeps we will find out everything we have seen in the last year and half has been happening in Salem Two and that is why none of the characters are acting like they should be. I know it is far fetched but a girl can hope can’t she?

    I am loving GH so no suggestions there… Although I think Days should take note. Jason M used to hog up the airtime on GH and now that’s hes gone I don’t miss him. I think Days could get back viewers that have tuned out by getting rid of the airhog EJ. That said Im loving Steve Burton on Young and the Restless. My only beef with Y and R is the whole Sharon and Adam stuff. I understand its angst for Chelsea and Adama with the baby on the way but it just needs to stop. That Shadam pairing is sick and gross and kind of degrading to women.

    Days decision to base Feb. sweeps month solely on the re-coupling of Sami & EJ is what is responsible for the loss of viewers. Putting Kate in Rafe’s bed is doing further damage. And sending John away has not helped at all.

    Viewers are tired of listening to stalker Jennifer hounding Daniel’s other female interests, and while the Gabi/Nick/Will story provided some interest, it has now devolved into another way for Sami & Ej to be on screen, so no longer is working.

    Nicole’s inner torment in working closely with Father Eric is intriguing. Victor is a delight to watch, his zinger filled dialogue is great.

    I have never watched BB Big Bore is what I call it. Y&R is the victor show,and just like Sonny on GH Victor never loses. He does the most disgusting things EVAH, and he never pays. He always wins. I win I never turn it on. GH right now is good. The vets returning are great,but I want to see Robert return. The vampire story no thanks. I like Lucy but this screaming vampire slayer,I don’t know and don’t want to. I do love the way M.Easton plays Caleb,the smile could melt the heart of the worst of us.. I watch in real time,and when they go to far in the boring story.I DVR and FF what disgusts me. As long as EJAMi is the way for Y&R I will just not bother to watch at all.

    I just wanted to let you know I agree. The vampire story is dumb, B&B is very boring. B&B’s revolving around the Lope/Leffy triangle is the same as seeing EJami on DAYS. Too much airtime for a stupid couple. I am not watching any of the soaps now, but do read recaps for DAYS. Even those bore me to tears.
