82 September 2nd, 2017 RATINGS: DAYS Makes Gains In Total Viewers and Key Demos!

Courtesy/NBC

Here we go! The latest ratings are out and for the week of August 21-25th, and it was NBC’s Days of our Lives which had the most noticeable gains in total viewers and key demos as new head writer, Ron Carlivati’s story arcs and pace are catching on with viewers.

In total viewers for the week, DAYS picked up + 117,000, which is the first time in a longtime we have seen gains of over 100,000 in the category for the crew in Salem.

Key demos for DAYS were also on the upswing.  They were the only daytime drama to be on the plus side in the womens 18-49 ratings share and demo viewers count, as well as illustrated the largest gain in the 25-54 audience, and stayed at even in the 18-34 category.

A definite battle for third place can be seen on the horizon between DAYS and GH, with the ABC daytime drama series losing another -68,000 total viewers this ratings period, and hitting new lows in the womens 18-49 viewers and ratings share.

However, the soap that received the highest gains in total viewers for the week was Y&R bringing in +197.000, while B&B lost -50,000 total viewers, but also hit a new low the womens 18-49 viewer count.

Check out the complete ratings picture via SON here.

Total Viewers

Hurray for Ron Carlivati and the writing team at DAYS! I loved Ron’s stuff at GH and so I’ve started watching DAYS and it’s become a must-see soap for me. The actors seem to be having a blast with all the creative drama, romance and fun.

My theory is that if viewers can see the actors are having fun while working then then viewers can have fun watching the show.So that could be one of the reasons why Days is doing so good right now because viewers and the show’s actors are both enchanted by the material Ron Carlivati is writing,

Ive watched Days since day one. I love Rons writing. He adds life back into DAYS. I noticed his great writing since day one he started writing again. Every episode has you wanting for more. I love seeing the actors have fun on set and off. Thank you for getting Ron back to save the show. Id be lost without DAYS. Thank you.

I have a theory that if the actors are seen having fun while that helps the show’s fans get interested in Days again.

I don’t know whether the Tripp storyline was Carlivati’s work, but it made the show watchable for me for the first time in a long time.

Actually, even more depth would be great on Tripp’s conflict between very much wanting and needing a real family versus his discovering details about this family which understandably repulse him. The fascinating part is his simultaneously liking and appreciating them, while at the same time being repulsed by them.

It also would add to the story by showing examples of Tripp’s loner way of life crashing up against the many traditions and the needs of his broad extended Salem family.

    Patrick replied

i’m really looking forward to when Tripp and Kayla , get past all the hurt. and reconcile and become that mother / child duo who take hold

you could see it easily when he and Kayla would “make hospital rounds” as it were

he’s a great actor and with Mary Beth Evans… this is tantamount to great stuff on the horizon.

so, yeah, ( Gosh darned it ! I wish Ava was still alive ) i’m just waiting for Tripp to find his way.

having Ava alive would have added so much more REEL… especially for.. Kayla and Steve.

  3. Ric says:

Of course GH lost some viewers for the week, it only aired for four days VS 5 days for all the other soaps including DOOL, which by the way is a big improvement of the previous writing regime.

    Reply

    4ever DAYS replied

The viewer totals are based on the “average” amount of viewers for the week, Ric, so all episode totals are added up and divided by the amount of episodes for that week, average being the key word. They’re not just added up.

    Andrew Hass replied

Who is to say if GH had aired all 5 days they wouldn’t have lost even more viewers than they did?

    Reply

    MB replied

Yup, an extra day could have meant a lower average for GH not higher. The four days means nothing, GH lost viewers the week before as well, now it is at all time lows. Franco comes back, more people tune out, it’s happened before.

  4. Mateo says:

I dismissed DAYS after all the great characters left or died off. I tried to tune in and keep up but the stories were so boring and the actors were so bad. It’s amazing what a new writer and some story direction will do. I started watching again when Ron Carlivati took over and all I can say is I can’t wait to see Sami, Kristen, Eve and Billie all come back to the scene. The humor is bitingly funny. Judi Evans is stealing EVERY scene she is in as both Adrienne and Bonnie. Her comic timing is EVERYTHING. Deidre Hall is doing well but I still don’t see the “gift” in her. I will admit her turn as Hattie is funny but it’s all in the writing. I am so excited to see what will come. Long live the Carlivati reign.

I totally agree with your assessment of Judi Evans. She owns this storyline. I love watching her. She’s bright and funny and energized. I love seeing Bonnie dancing as fast as she can when she’s stumped by something. Judi plays that so well. I’m also glad to see more of Lucas. When the doppelgänger story is over, I so hope Adrienne and Lucas are kept front and center on the show.

I’m so looking forward to what Ron has in store for Eve, Sami, Kristen and Will.

Absolutely, Llanview717…… the seasoned thespians are doing their best and then some….the younger crew, some deplorable, some ok, some do excel.
It’s the storylines that get to me….compounded by John and Marlena; silly, silly and more silly.
    Just my opinion.
    Judi Evans Luciano is flawless.

    Celia replied

    I do like Bonnie, Mateo…mostly, I prefer Hattie’s personality over Marlena’s …hilarious.
I agree about Sami’s and Will’s return. The anticipation is making me salivate, LOL. Billie? Not so much.
But, if truth be known, I am not very impressed with Ron’s work….There’s still a lack of mystery and suspense for me. I suppose the repetition of plot-lines kills the climax.

For a minute I thought it was like the Olympic relay, where you have to pass the baton or else it doesn’t count. Goofy! And Sam the idiot who can’t resist saying “Jason” every ten seconds really picks her moments. Carly would have taken him out without breaking a heel. Naturally I resent the time Billy will be offscreen now. Maybe Sam should use that time to resume her psychiatric sessions. She definitely needs a major tuneup!

Call me cynical, but let’s pump the brakes for a moment. Has the bar really been set this low? If you gave them truth serum, do you really think that NBC executives behind closed doors (regardless of what a few may say publicly) are happy with these numbers?

It just speaks to how putrid the ratings were before (and still are). This will only mean something if Days shows consistent growth over many weeks, and I have my doubts with an overrated, recycled hack like “Re-Ron” Carlivati behind the wheel. It’s been proven before that with his nonsensical brand of writing, a short term bump in ratings cannot be sustained. How this man keeps getting head writer jobs at daytime soaps and why some keep kissing his fanny is beyond me. One week up, then one week down, then one week up, then three weeks down won’t cut cut it, like Days has done so many times before.

The humor has definitely picked up. Salem is not as dark as it has been. Loving the interaction of the characters with each other. Between Adrienne/Bonnie and Maggie to Marlena/Hattie and Andre to the power foursome Chad, Abby, Paul and Sonny’s double wedding. Cannot wait for the big wedding day surprise of Will and Sami showing up!!!!!!!!!
The only other thing I would like fixed is the Hope/Rafe pairing. They are so boring together and have no chemistry. With Ciara coming back, maybe they can bring back Aidan and his son, Chase. Hope and Aidan had awesome chemistry even when he tried to kill her…lol….And bring back Jack Devereaux for Jennifer, she needs him back in her life!!!!! And for goodness sake, can no one in the Horton family bring out Grandma Alice’s famous donuts and keep the tradition going!!!!!! And for the love of all things, if the ratings keep improving, can they get rid of the one set that has the two doors, that is used as every office by Kayla, Marlena, the Horton Center, lawyers office, judges office…every office in Salem….it’s offsetting when you see these actors in the same set but being used as different offices….just sayin!!!!

Rafe , for all intent and purpose… is still a viable younger , still stud, MUFFIN

Hope had pure gold with Daniel Cosgrove and Lauren Boles…

Plus maybe Ron Carlivati has plans to break up Rafe and Hope eventually but he knows he’s got to do it slowly and not have Hope and Rafe break up for no reason.Plus i read that both Hope and Rafe will want the commissioner’s job and so maybe their professional lives will impact their personal lives if one of them becomes the other’s boss.Plus with Sami returning and considering he’s her ex Rafe might interact with her and even get caught up in one of her messes which Hope may not like.

@Rhonda….I couldn’t agree with you more about GH’s Nina and the manner in which she is portrayed…I’m totally underwhelmed by this character and haven’t appreciated her omnipresence from Day One. You have previously made brilliant observations regarding her upon which I have fully concurred. As for Franco, I really hope that the Burton return gives this guy something meaningful to do….I don’t necessarily buy into the notion that he is a twin to whomever Steve will be playing, but he clearly possesses some historical perspective on the mysterious situation which seems to be coming down the pike. Lastly, I cannot believe it took me so long to make the Nurse Amy/McCain connection….there was something niggling me about that character since she first arrived in Port Charles and for the life of me, I could not figure it out since I do not follow that particular FoxNews personality at all. It was only by happenstance that I caught a glimpse of her recently when I was viewing another political commentator of my choice and voila! I immediately thought “Nurse Amy!” LOL.

I seriously dont know how Y&R increased their numbers? The show is god awful! They lost any hope of bringing Adam back, Nick, Nikki, Victoria, Billy, Graham, The Winters clan, Chelsea, Phyllis and Curly Sue are all in horrible stories or suck! Michael and Lauren are hardly ever on. Jill is so retired! It is just so sad.

General Hospital. Sonny is in another shootout and his SON Dante is the lead investigator! Carly all the sudden doesnt want dirt on Nelle! Nathan and Amy and that Man Landers shit is below what a third grader would write! Nina will NEVER fit in on the show along with Roger HORRIVATH! Its a joke that Michael sits in the CEO spot above Ned! If I were Olivia I would insist they move out of that dilapidated Q mansion that Every writer ruins! And Valentin is a pussycat! What a joke for Helena to say he was the worst! Worst at picking women!

Days has new life. They have a writer who did well for a bit at GH. They are bringing back characters that the FANS want to see. It wont be long before GH is at the bottom!

Excellent GH observations, Timmmbo! There are far too many schizophrenic legacy characters roaming about Port Charles who cannot seem to remember last week—let alone recall their own backstories—when it comes to behaving in a logical fashion….it’s reached the point of the ridiculous….and why? Mainly sloppy writing by those who obviously have no grasp on the show’s great history! It’s insane….these days all we’re treated to is an endless parade of nonsensical, repetitive vignettes that go nowhere and mean nothing! As if this complete ruination of tried-and-true characters weren’t enough, we also have to endure the indignity of completely worthless newbies engaged in their meandering overly-theatrical antics….that “Man Landers” scenario is one of the most egregious examples of utterly useless tales ever foisted upon the GH audience…what we have is a truly insipid storyline with annoying, unnecessary characters, especially Nurse Amy, who, in addition to being overly perky with ever-murky motives, totally reminds me of Meghan McCain! (Yes, I finally put my finger on why this nerve-wracking character roils me so…there it is! Enough said….) Then there is that purely dispensable misfit Nina who will never—EVER!—-find a place in Port Charles where she belongs…time to cut this character loose once and for all! Perhaps that will free up Valentin for an encore performance where he can finally live up to his much-touted, preconceived fierce reputation, since what we have seen thus far is anything but! And what to do, what to do with Franco??? Seems nobody has a solution to that perpetual puzzle…All I know is that given this immense mess, Steve Burton cannot arrive in Port Charles fast enough. At least his is a familiar face with a fresh new spin(?) on the past which perhaps longtime fans can actually relate? We can only hope….

Sonny, Cassadines. the hospital And it’s really hard for me to believe that the Q’s with all of their dalliances from the past don’t have enough “relatives” to visit Port Charles. Or the Cassadines. Tomas…Totqlly agree with you about St Sonny. If I remember right he is supposed to be better than the other crime lords because he doesn’t smuggle drugs or allow them in his territory. But even if he doesn’t…big deal. The rest of what he probably does is bad enough. Especially for a show that is supposed to be built about the merits of a hospital. Seems that a lot of the healing we are seeing, though, is for, or because of, the their shootings. And now Carly is going to rationalize staying with Sonny because she always knew what he did for a living. Also, wonder how Michael feels when they make all the fuss over best friend Jason getting shot, when Michael almost died being in the wrong place, wrong time because of Sonny’s chosen profession.

When Ron and Dena wrote OLTL together, they were magic. When Ron had to write off OLTL He did a great job in the allotted time, however, his chartoonishness didn’t work on GH and is really destroying Days. If Neilson was going for the 12-16 demographic, the show would still fail, even though the story telling is great for young teens, there’s nothing to invest them in the drama because they’re too young. Younguns need a reason for drama, and us oldies are watching our favorite show die as a cartoon. Too bad the advertising industry hasn’t realised that Neilson has just been handling the money flow, and has never reported accurately anything to anyone, I wish the Networks could figure that out too. What a shame.

Everyone I know is dropping Days. Ron C’s production is amateurish. The so called comedy isnt funny but seems to be telling viewers soaps are for idiots. Ron is ignoring some of the finer actors 100%, but keeps propping some of the weakest links.

Im so turned off. Used to love this show but this is not loveable

Right, Jamie. My sister lived and breathed Days….she hasn’t watched in months….She asks me what’s going on and if any life has been injected into the show.

    Like I said above, Patrick,

Nielson , says they had a jump, but Nielson doesn’t know squat. They don’t know how many people are sitting in the minority of rooms they monitor, nor what those people think about what they think about what they are watching. All we know for sure is that Neilson manages the money flow for the industries.

Ron did a great job ending OLTL. He nearly ended GH, but then ABC decided to keep it in a meager effort to not lose even more primetime viewers. They probably will anyway since most of their new line up is cartoon and stupider than the whole bachelor franchise.

If Ron doesn’t get back to his intelligence, his writing won’t sustain Days no matter how much talent is lined up. It’s funny, there are so many on here clamoring for young fresh talented writers, and in this case I think it’s a writer without much life experience, who would be much happier as a cartoonist.

Patrick, my dear friend…Yea, yea, and more yea. These are powerful and most looked-for thespians. The problem is the nonsensical storyline attached to practically all of the above mentioned actors.
Many of us would say, “So what!?!?”….give me something to tickle my fancy; then let’s parley. LOL.
So far, Ron has not delivered….not to me, anyway.
