A key week in November Sweeps is in the books, and for the ratings week of November 2-6, it was ABC’s General Hospital who delivered the best performance, with NBC’s 50th anniversary darling, Days of our Lives also delivering increased numbers for the network and its best week in 20 months.
Looks like the Jason (Billy Mille) reveal, and Liz’s (Rebecca Herbst) wedding to “Jake” AKA Jason leading into it, garnered GH the most gains of any daytime drama for the week adding +254,000, and netting an average of 2,877,000 in the total viewer category. GH also was up in all key womens demo. Especially noteworthy were its gains of +119,000 in the 25-54 demo, and adding +94,000 viewers in the key 18-49 demo.
As for Days of our Lives, we already reported that they reached a 20-month high in total viewers for the week on the stregnth of their storylines which included: the bicentennail celebration, which led into Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Aiden’s (Daniel Cosgrove)wedding, which led into Bo (Peter Reckell) coming back to save the day, plus Ben (Rob Scott Wilson) kidnapping Abigail (Kate Masni)! DAYS gained +63,000 total viewers for the week, and was strong and up in all key womens demos . Previously, in the last few ratings report DAYS leaped ahead of GH. However this time out, GH is the one who leaped over DAYS despite a fantastic uptick for the gang in Salem.
As for the number one and number two soap operas: The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Y&R once again hit over the 5 million mark in total viewers during its Thursday November 5th episode. Y&R continued to be way ahead of the pace of the other daytime drama series netting an average of 4,859,000 total viewers, even though they lost viewers during the ratings week.
Y&R was also up in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos. Meanwhile, B&B did not perform as well losing -114,000 total viewers, and being the only one of the four soaps to lose viewers in each of the key demos. View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.
