10 February 3rd, 2012 RATINGS: Great week for B&B! Series hits its highest total viewers & key demos in the last few years!

What a fantastic week January 23rd to 27th was for CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful!  The series gained in total eyeballs and in key demos due in part to the Bill/Katie/Steffy/Liam/Hope drama, and that some fans of All My Children and One Life to Live may be looking for a new soap home.

The Bold and the Beautiful came in at the number two spot again, but with quite an increase of 3,626,000 viewers which marks a three year high and up +407,000 from last year at this time! The half-hour soap also gained in the key 18-49 female demo rating share … again the highest in three years.

General Hospital while still at the bottom of the four remaining daytime soaps picked up + 91,000 viewers for the ratings week, and with the upcoming returns of some of the 80′s Port Charles favorites, Kimberly McCullough’s upcoming exit story, and the arrival of Llanview’s Mannings and John McBain, things could very well be on their way up for the ailing soap.

Days of our Lives also added + 11,000 viewers.  Look for DAYS to have an increase in the next two ratings periods as several of their major stories are heating up.   However, the number one rated The Young and the Restless was the only soap to lose viewers this ratings weeks down almost -100,000 viewers from the previous week.  View the entire ratings courtesy of Soap Opera Network here!

Y&R has not been at its best. Not surprised it lost viewers. I’d love to see B&B come in at number 1. I think people watch Y&R out of routine. I don’t think it’s the best soap, at least not for as long as its been number one.

this is bad ,not for the b and b,but for general hospital, its sinking like the cash flow for abc s roundup of daytime crap shows,I hope thats not the reason general hospital is going downhill, because I cant be forced to watch the chew the view and the revolution.if the ratings were honest in how they are taken ,my point is soapnet will be gone and if taping doesnt count ,and if your 49 with one foot in the grave you dont matter,I should just give up watching television all together ,how is general hospital suppose to survive?

What the article doesn’t tell you is that General Hospital gained 60 000 viewers from last week in the 18-49 women category , while Days lost 65 000 viewer in that same category.

My understaning is that ABC gives priority to the 18-49 women category, while NBC targets 18-49 adults regardless of gender.

Way to go B & B!!! Soaps and the soap viewers are still relevent! It seems that CBS and Sony are committed to good writing and interesting characters with chemistry. Y & R is getting better, they’ve got a long way to go.

Unrelated topic; please do not let GH suffer due to a lousy lead-in show. You’re just giving ABC more ammunition to justify cancellation. Watch GH everyday on broadcast TV or ABC.com (do not ff through commercials). 2013 is supposed to be their 50th anniversary. I would like for it to still be on the air!

My mom and I were watching GH, and where I live we had a problem with the signal and whenever GH would come on we couldn’t hear anything. She was bored watching the faces, especially all the new people and when I showed her it on youtube she was even less interested and said she could tell it was ending, but that’s why she watched it. The show needs major help, just dull it really isn’t the lead in that’s killing it. The Jasam/Franco because it’s lasted so long from the awful honeymoon to the WTD I’ll say is worse than the Lucky Ireland story, I’ve never seen such an awful story.

First off, Heather noted that Days lost viewers. We need to support the remaining soaps to keep the genre alive. Secondly, I’m wondering if the ratings for GH are slipping because :
    1) the time slot. It was easy to watch OLTL and then GH. Now there is this big gap.
    2) fans (including myself) are leery about getting interested in GH only to have the rug snatched out from under us again. I do set my TV on for GH but but don’t always watch for that reason.

A loss of 100,000 viewers week to week for Y&R is relatively small. Y&R’s ratings and viewership dwarfs all other soaps. It has 4.8 million viewers on average. GH & Days have half those numbers. The reality is that Days and GH could be getting better ratings.

Days needs to boost the story for its younger characters. The show does not have a great storyline equivalent to the glory days of Sami/Carrie/Austin or Bell/Shawn for the younger actors. Other than Will’s storyline, the younger cast is in pretty boring storylines.
