37 October 7th, 2016 RATINGS: It’s A Big Week For The Bold and the Beautiful!

Leave it to soap stalwarts John McCook and Rena Sofer (Eric and Quinn) of The Bold and the Beautiful to generate some major numbers for the CBS Daytime drama in the latest ratings for the week of September 26-30th.

The fallout from Eric and Rena’s wedding and Eric landing in the hospital in critical condition helped B&B to almost 4 million total viewers for the week (3,913,000) while gaining viewers in all key womens demos 18-34, 18-49, and 25.54 with an increase in ratings shares, as well.

The only other daytime drama to gain viewers was NBC’s Days of our Lives which added +17,000 bringing its tally to 2,213,000.  The ongoing drama of the three super-villains reign of terror continuing to cause havoc for many  Salem favorites has shown a slight uptick.  DAYS also gained viewers in the 25-54 demo.

General Hospital, which featured the beginning of the end for Paul Hornsby (Richard Burgi) being revealed to all as the hospital serial killer, saw the ABC daytime drama losing  -8,000, but GH still came in with 2,703,000 for the ratings week, and saw gains in the women 18-49 and 18-34 demos.  GH also tied an all-time low in 18-34 ratings share.

Finally, first place Y&R was the show with the most in the minus column for the week in question.  Y&R lost -98,000 total viewers bringing their average tally to 4,691,000. The soap tied an all-time low in 18-49 womens demo ratings share and lost viewers in that demo, as well.  However,Y&R saw an uptick in women 18-34.   View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

    DOOL gained..
”the ongoing drama of the three super-villains reign of terror continuing to cause havoc for many” is intriguing and drama, that’s what soaps are- drama.

    General Hospital..
”which featured the beginning of the end for Paul being revealed to all as the hospital serial killer, saw the ABC daytime drama losing”
And Sonny ranting to God of his sins.. BLAH SNORE..
AND GH tied an All-Time Low in 18-34 ratings share.

note; the Serial Killer story is standing next to the Music Box story, both horrendously lacking drama and both total sleepers; can’t get any worse, or can it?…. yup..

I started watching B&B earlier this year. It is amazing how much a 30-minute show can fit into one episode. This show is on fire. Eric and Quinn needs to be a wake-up call for soap writers that people watching soaps are not interested in young actors that can’t act carrying their show. The storyline with Eric and Quinn was shocking at the beginning, but now it has so many layers it should have effect on all of the characters for months. I love it that Ridge, Steffi and Rick are now the villians. The problem with B&B is that they have had so many great performances this year, who will they submit for an Emmy? Rena Sofer, Heather Tom, John McCook, Katherine Kelly Lang have been stellar. This show is so good, I can’t wait to watch.

Hollyoaks has been carried by young and upcoming actors for 21 years now.

I love Hollyoaks……wish we had soap writers that blended drama and comedy and aren’t afraid to “kill off” major characters….the Lindsey “gloved killer” storyline went on over a year and killed off a lot of characters….this is something that General Hospital could have done with Paul and he could have eliminated half the bloated cast…..i’m hoping that on Days, the 3 cra cra’s will really BLOW UP Salem and maybe then the show can redo the sets and bring them up to into 2016/2017….i’ve noticed that the writing has improved with Ryan Quan… Sonny and Paul…..and Sonny and Chad….and love Victor’s snide comments about everything…lol…he’s a riot again…..Days is definitely in an upswing, just hope they keep up the momentum and get viewers back…..

    geraldine replied

the show is boring, they needed new writers, quinn get away with to much.

  3. Jimh(leave it to beaver) says:

No matter the ratings are up or down, the results remain the same with Y at 1, B at 2, G at 3, and D at 4,…on the plus side is the ratings seem healthy-for now!!!…

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

    noise outside…

    su0000 replied

The soaps standing 1-2-3-4 will never change..
    Why? Because–
the viewer/fans they have will maintain as are..
There will be No new watchers to mention.

Only bump the soaps will get is–
if one soap is canceled and its’ viewers migrate to other soaps.

What is will be …. GH will always be #3..
UNLESS it falls below Days and that is a possibility with J&S writing.

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Yep…same viewers tuning in and out then tuning in if something interest them at the moment and then back out when its over!!

    Timmm replied

Same as always because Y&R adapts and GH stays the same. Look no further than ABC signing Frank and JELLY to a new contract!

  4. Patrick says:

my DAYS is on even keel… sparking

    good enough

    it’s good

  5. mark says:

Good for bold and beautiful I’m gonna start watching again!

  6. John says:

Bold and the Beautiful has been a must watch for me in the last two weeks! I was cheering at the tv screen when Eric was calling out each one of his family members!! The show deserves the ratings increase!

    soapqueenforever replied

I was cheering right along with you!! I loved how Eric put those ungrateful slobs in their c place. Go Eric go!! On a side note am I the only one that thinks Ridge is overly annoying now

    John replied

He is! And so is Steffy! I cringe when she starts pouting with those lips! I feel likeI am on the verge of hating them!

  7. Rose says:

Just my thoughts on some of the ratings…

GH…we are treated to three GRAPHIC killings, or attempted ones, this last period…Alexis getting her throat slit by Julian, Sabrina being strangled to death by Paul, and Tracey being held as “body armor” with his deadly syringe by Paul. And there was Monica, earlier Valrntine holding Laura at gunpoint on Cassadine Island, and even earlier, Kiki almost being held a hostage by Morgan with a shotgun in the cabin. An observation, all women. The men in the past mostly get shot. And right now we can’t blame Sonny and the rest of mob city. And for all the viewers who either remember watching with Moms and Grams, or with their own kids, is this what you want them to see?

Days…shootings, killers, and suicides take a lot of the headlines.

B&B…no killings, just another twist on soap fodder…love, family, jealousy, power, control, etc. Really good acting.

Y&R…no killings…just more of Sharon baby story and Victoria’s new boyfriend taking the bait from Victor.

We’ve been through Brian Frons and his damage (and I don’t think for a moment he did it all on his own, there is top ABC food chain). Then a year of the dark Fluke story. Now two new writers (women no less) hopefully set the ship right and what do we get…more “realistic” murder, mayhem, serial killer and the shutting down of GH. Way too close to the news which I watch less and less of, some of which seems more like a soap when hearing today’s newest “revelation.”

Except for Laura and Kevin, Jason/ Sam, possibly Finn and Hayden, or even Franco and Liz (not my favorite couple) where is what made soaps popular…romance, adventure, mystery, hope, escape in the afternoon? That doesn’t mean soaps don’t need a continual freshening up and contemporary outlook. But not doom and gloom and more and more killings.

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Dark Shadows and Edge Of Night had the most violence and killings of all soaps when i was growing up-however, it wasnt in-your-face graphic like todays serials like GH and Days-children could watch …both these serials used to be more like B&B and Y&R-about family issues, love and romance ect ect…now its all gloom and doom…no true heroes anymore…and like you i rarely watch the news-shooting kills dozens at club, stabbing at mall, shootings at mall and school, boyfriend fatally beats toddler to death, baby left to die in heated car, family bludgeoned to death, boy set ablaze by another youth, girl fatally shot because she wouldnt show another kid her puppies…im sick of it-give these monsters if taken alive the death penalty…i want escapism and my soaps arent providing much of it…like the news with so much violence and darkness i find im watching them less too!!!

    Debra m replied

I loved Dark Shadows as a kid. Yes they had killing and violence but it was not over done like the soaps today. And Dark Shadows dealt with family, the Collins, and the love story of Barnabas and Josette.

The Quinn Eric story is the best . This should show the other soaps we want to see less of the younger characters and give more to the vets, like Laura and Kevin.

  8. Mackenzie Grey says:

Yay!!! Loving the Quinn and Eric SL. Congrats to B&B!

  9. Mary SF says:

Sorry but three super villains don’t hold a candle against one Dimera — Days lets get back to basics here.

After a week of everyone abusing poor Quinn look forward to her turning the tables, but hopefully with a twist that when she is in power she will be far more gracious to Eric’s family than they were to her– I really am rooting that Quinn is growing as character– and they are transforming her in a complex person with layers instead of crazy Quinn

Yes, I have to agree with Suooo, Jelly’s music box story on Y&R was their worse storyline ever, but this serial killer storyline on GH comes in as a close second for all time worse story line on soap in the last ten years.

All I can say for Y&R is I cannot wait for the new team stories to begin– I hope they nip this new Abbott and Newman revenge plot in the bud—we seen enough of that to last a lifetime, there has to be a way to create conflict other than having Jack and Victor go at it for the millionth time– YAWN

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

I did like Days story at first because it utilizes most of the cast but its just another violent story and i think its leading up to killing off Teressa which is another big mistake-boy do i miss Days 60s to the 80s years…the 80s werent the greatest time but it was far better than the 2000s ‘Mess Of Our Lives!’

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Quinn should be pregnant with Erik’s child…

    Rebecca1 replied

Now that would be interesting…but doesn’t he beat out Sonny over in Port Charles for having the most kids???

    soapqueenforever replied

That would be an interesting twist. But you have to figure the age factor of Quinn. In real life Rene Sofar is 47 years old. I don’t what age bracket she is in on the show, but for argument sake let’s put Liam in his mid to late twenties, and Quinn was19 or tweny at the time Wyatt was born. That would put Quinn at around 44 or 45 if I am doing the math correctly. It would be cutting things a little close, but it might be doable. That would definitely turn a few heads. Steffie being a neice to Quinn’s baby.

    soapqueenforever replied

    I meant to say Wyatt

  10. Sylvia says:

Y&R is a complete bore. Not a single story worth my time. Phelps & Pratt have made it a total mess. The Christian/Sully reveal has drug on so long that both of the kid’s real parents are dead. Great writing….NOT.

    soapqueenforever replied

I was thinking the same thing. And how close are Nick and Chelsea going to stay when he finds out that Chelsea knew the whole time that Adam was the father. This uselessness has the potential of dragging on for a while. For the sake and stability of the baby, they should just let sleeping dogs lye, and let Sharon keep the baby. Although now that the character of Dyan is leaving (please no more recasts) whose to say how this will play out

  11. Mo says:

It’s Eric and Quinn’s wedding, not Eric and Rena’s.

I really like Eric and Quinn together and the story has been great. It’s wonderful to have Eric in a story. I hope Wyatt tells Quinn about the power of attorney.

Glad Days is improving. It has been better.

I also hope the success of B&B showcasing Eric and Quinn shows that viewers enjoy seeing more mature, shall we say, characters and actors. We want competent actors telling good story.

Days will improve more if they recognize this and recast some of the teens and also refocus onto other characters. I would love to see more Doug and Julie, Adrienne, Justin, Lucas. I frankly, really don’t care about the teens. They should support story, not be the story.

  12. Rj says:

Days may be up from previous week +17,000 which is good that it is up, but down -283,000 from last year and only soap that is. That is important to take note as I can’t imagine sponsors would be thrilled about that. With that said, love my Days cast want them to stay on, but would like to see a different type of storyline. I do put the show on for a few minutes to check to see what is happening, but do not seem to stay with it long because I like a different type of escapist entertainment. With that said, I continue to wish Days the best as I like so many of the actors and characters, and I know some people may like this storyline which is fine, but I hope they do not stay with it for too long, and move on to other areas. I realize the villains are bumbling, so in some ways it is funny, and the good guys will win against the bad which is always good, actually, I like the actors playing the villains they are doing a good job, but I hope they finish this soon. Storylines that are uplifting after adversity are always good themes.

  13. Diane DivineyRangen says:

I was surprised by the turn and awfull decisions of Ridge & Steffy. It has shown just how greedy and egomanical they have become. When a character becomes this evil though, it makes it easier to get continue watching them. I certainly hope they turn a page. However, past events have shown Ridge is selfish to any end and Steffy will remove anyone to the point of murder who cares for someone she no longer wants. What is troubling is she does the greatest evil EVEN if she doesn’t want that man. Look at what she tried to do to Ivy by pushing her into an electronic circuit board.

I was surprised by the yawn performance of the people on the Y&R. Jack just was really poor at trying to show hate toward Phyliss. Just take her back, it wouldl be far easier to believe you hate her because there is so much more you could do to make her squirm.

  14. kazz says:

I love this storyline with Eric and Quinn ( In Love) What I really don’t like is Spoiled Steffi and her Dad Ridge.. they are totally disgusting. Would love to see Wyatt see what a idiot he’s been for those two Losers.. Ridge ruins the whole show in my opinion..

  15. Harry says:

    I don’t trust the numbers.

    Jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

Me too…i always thought the lottery was fixed-lol

  16. PF says:

Oh, Jelly, you really know how to raise those female demos (lmao!). You have a talented, handsome actor in Richard Burgi, and what do you do?! You turn his character into a delusional serial killer, making it necessary to write him off the show. And all for a poorly written storyline yet. What a foolish waste. But wait! At least we still have that smarmy hypocrite Sonny and his God complex to keep us riveted to our screens (UGH). What’s it going to take for ABC to realize what a terrible mistake they made renewing these two insipid “writers”?

  17. blake says:

Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen B&B that close to Y&R in total viewers before, only a difference of about 800,000.

  18. Violet V Lemm says:

I am loving B&B mainly due to the wonderful pairing of Eric and Quinn. The other SLs were getting so boring. Y&R has been boring and disgusting for too long, thanks to Billy and Phylliss.

  19. Timmm says:

I hope Jack is on to something good! He should disown Billy and no way should he let Phyllis near Jabot! He gives her a supply closet office which is funny but she or anyone else can walk into Jack’s office and look at anything on his laptop. Really? I hope these two are done for good! Jack needs to date Avery! New writing is near, Dylan is leaving and Summer is supposed to be recurring. Get her out and bring back Daniel.

GH is a snooze. They resigned all three of their problems and the show is unwatchable. Griff should have been wearing a hard hat being in church with Sonny. Morgan will probably get the bandage treatment/coma and a new actor will play him in a month or so. Nell will get close to Carly and then turn on her big time. Tracy will leave and Ned will stay recurring and the Q’s will disappear AGAIN! Who cares about Lulu and Shemp! Dillon and Kiki blah blah blah! But I lOVE GH! I can stomach Franco with Scott, Laura and Kevin need to amp it up, they need to rehire Nick Stabile and recast Valentin. [Michael Muhney]
