30 October 18th, 2014 RATINGS: The Young and the Restless Scores Big On The Heels Of Phyllis’ Return At Shick’s Wedding!

Courtesy/CBS

The ratings are out for the week of October 6th through October 10th, and ultimately The Young and the Restless bested the rest of the network daytime dramas for the ratings period, in that they were the only soap to show gains in total viewers and in every key demo!

The Young and the Restless gained +172,000 viewers for the week, bringing their total viewers to 4,740,000, as compared to General Hospital, which saw a loss of -265,000 for the week, bringing their total viewer count to below 3 million again with 2,776,000.  The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives only lost – 31,000 and -10,000 viewers, respectively.

The number one soap opera also saw gains in all key women’s demos: 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54.  And the week was most watched beginning on the Monday, October 6th episode as Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) walked in to Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) wedding spoiling the nuptials of Shick, and letting all of Genoa City that she is out of her coma!  This sent shockwaves through Genoa City and the beginnings of the subsequent fallout played throughout the week.  You can view the entire ratings picture via SON here.

What do you think of Y&R’s performance? Were you watching the CBS Daytime drama during the ratings week discussed?  What soap opera is captivating you the most right now?  Let us know!

More Nina, Franco and Nathan please…or maybe not. A 265,000 decline in one week is big, especially considering that the other soaps pretty much maintained their numbers and since GH has been close to 3 million viewers since Labor Day.

If it is due to a Nielsen error that was over reporting GH for months now being rectified, then it means that people haven’t been into Nina and Franco for a while. If that isn’t a factor, then it means that a number of people just decided they had enough.

Loved Y&R last week. GH fell big because of the neilsen error. Not surprised of GH collapse. The show is awful. Can’t stand the Nina and Franco nonsense. Next week we’ll see how Days did with EJ’s death fallout.

This is my favorite time of the year for soap watching– I find the lead up to November sweeps usually means the soaps are pulling out all the stops to capture big ratings for the sweeps period. After a long dull summer of mostly filler story lines, these few weeks are jammed packed with content. I’m in soap lover heaven until American Thanksgiving, when everything winds down again, so I’m enjoying all four soaps right now–

Sweeps is amazing Mary SF. The thing with GH though, is that they have 50 stories running at once all year long! But they have been doing well with sweeps, so hopefully this November will repeat.

Interesting that the highest ratings for the week were not on Monday for Shick’s wedding but on Tuesday and Thursday

I tuned in just to see Gina Tognoni, I’m not a regular viewer. but loved her on One Life to Live. She is such solid actress, playing a completely different kind of character. Y&R did it right…Phyllis made a grand, shocking entrance. Meanwhile, I’m five days behind on GH because Sam puts me to sleep and Nina makes me irritated.

Gina appeared on Guiding Light not OLTL.

She appeared on both GL & OLTL – she worked with JFP on OLTL.

Sorry, carol…but Gina Tognoni was also part of the OLTL cast, she played Kelly Cramer. So, Louisa is 100% right .

I am a regular viewer…since I was a young teen. Y&R has always been my favorite soap. However, the past year has been torturous watching for me…but, I faithfully kept watching. I must say that since Gina joined the cast, Y&R is starting to pick up tempo.
I hope you will watch Y&R regularly from now on, Louisa.

Thanks CeeCee. I may start watching regularly now. I do love Gina! I’m a long-time ABC soap fan but recently started watching Days and I am loving it! I am very disappointed in GH of late.

    Hi Judy ox!

I don’t remember all those things because I started watching DAYS in 1984. I do know of them, so I hear you loud and clear!

The Doctors ended a couple years before I started watching DAYS and I never watched Another World, but I did google Steve and Alice and realized they ended their popular run on Another World a few years before I discovered DAYS, where Doug and Julie were a supercouple, but on their way out as I was getting to know them. I don’t get Retro TV, but you could have luck finding The Doctors on YouTube. I do know someone posted the first episode shown on Retro TV of the Doctors on YouTube. I never watched Dallas, but I feel your pain…I went a little wacky when Twin Peaks was canceled about 25 years ago…lol

As for the ratings and the NBC soaps…Nielsen has not been too kind through the years, but maybe we’ll have some luck with Days of our Lives!

    Best regards,

    4ever DAYS

Im the reason GHs ratings fell…i had a garage sale that week and my customers peaked around that hour GH is on…so many showed up at 2pm they had to take turns getting in my garage…Halloween week might push GH back over that 3 mill. mark so ill postpone my 50% off sale to the first week in Nov. so GH can climb the ratings once again…my sincere apology for causing the decrease…lol

There is something slightly different about the soap with the introduction of NUPhyllis! A dynamic NO HOLDS BAR female lead is back in action!! Lets hope that when she discovers her whiny lil spawn is married and to a gun toting kidnapper and cop shooter that we see the old BITCH in action!

No other character comes close to the fierceness of Phyllis.

But sadly, we have Sharon mopping around with most of her dialogue being “THE SECRET. Phyllis knows the secret!”. Could someone in her family actually have an argument with her about this search?! Not NuCassie, but just maybe Jack or even Noah?! This show is boring when there is little conflict.

And who didn’t see that coming with Stitch and his mom. Of course, she killed his father and Stitch, the standup took the deed to save her from the abusive father!

I agree, Paul. The bitch is back and she’s back with a mission….if only she knew what that mission was. But Gina owns this role already. Usually it takes time for me to warm up to a recast but not this time. She is a force of nature.
Yes, tired of the “secret” too.

“Y & R” has been very good the past few weeks – still some kinks to be worked out (get rid of Abby and finish up with the Ian Ward storyline please!!), but it has been quite watchable.

Does anyone know what will become of co-headwriters Shelly Altman & Jean Passanante once Chuck Pratt assumes the HW position? Are they leaving or are they already gone?

Gina seems to be getting into the groove fairly quickly. She is a good actress and I think what helps is the character was off camera for quite sometime and it helped the fans accept that Michelle is not coming back so lets delete her portrayal and move on. It worked. I see Michelle on GH now and I swear I think of her as Nina now and she is knocking it out of the park! Soaps are holding up. Wouldnt it be so cool if ABC or NBC had the guts to start a brand new daytime soap?

Y&R is off life support finally. Who would have thought JFP would be the show runner if/when this happened. Gina is an amazing professional. She has done a superb job of making Phyllis her own. Meanwhile, Cane and Neal walking in on Devon and Hillary had me almost spitting out my food from shock and laughter. Neal is such a pathetically needy man, like Jack. Neither one of them can live without having a wife. Always falling in love and getting married. Now Neal is not only a blind dimwit, but he’s literally blind! Maybe with his newly developed non-sight senses, he can buy a couple vowels finally and get a clue. What a great fitting twist to the story of the most boring family in Genoa City. My only real complaints right now are Abby and Billy. No offense, but both are woefully miscast. Billy is David Tom’s role, and Abby, well, I’ll just have to say nothing, because I have nothing nice to say.

Y&R built up phyllis return with bursting into the wedding..
and in Y&R tradition, not being able to create gripping drama, it failed..

—– Phyllis stands in the doorway takes a step and falls on her face.. over..

((what kinda crap drama is that aahaa shees.. Only on Y&R..(fail …

The only thing saving this storyline right now is Gina’s performance! She IS Phyllis. The entrance was dramatic but nothing occurred afterwards. Y&R needs to take a closer look at how Days does their wedding reveals. Y&R needs to start dropping bombs to bring the drama. They have way too many secrets that keep dragging out to no end.

my only gripe is if Mr Pratt is reading this please bring back my last two fav characters Leslie and Tyler !!!! Avery s busy with her two latest love intrests and michael s having a medical crisis so have Leslie help Adam with his legal troubles again surronding delias death! and bring tyler on young and restless as he was when he first came on the show!
