23 February 19th, 2016 RATINGS: Y&R Shows Gains During Dr. Anderson’s Death! B&B Solid As Quinn Manipulates Liam!

It was CBS Daytime that showed its strength during the latest ratings period of February 8th-12th.  In the lead and gaining the most viewers for the week was The Young and the Restless adding +142,000 more than any other daytime drama.  That brought their total viewer number up over the 5 million mark once again.  The show was also up in every female demo category: 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, where it performed extremely well adding +80,000 in total viewers for the category.

In story, it was the February 8th and 9th episodes that drew the most viewers, and that centered around Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) finally realizing the identity of Dr. Anderson (Elizabeth Bogush) and heading to Fairview to confront her.  Only when they got there, the evil doc had a knife to the back and was killed.  As  the audience learned Patty (Stacy Haiduk) Williams killed her psychiatrist, and is the only person alive that viewers know of that holds the secret that Sandy Allen AKA Dr. Anderson gave Sage’s (Kelly Sullivan) baby to Sharon (Sharon Case)!

As for CBS The Bold and the Beautiful, they also had a strong week gaining +95,000 total viewers for the ratings period which added to their weekly average of 3,738,000.  B&B continued to unspool the story of Quinn’s (Rena Sofer) machinations, as she literally has an amnesiac Liam (Scott Clifton) believing he is a man named Adam, and that they are a couple   She apparently is sleeping with the guy, or getting quite cozy, even though she despises him so much!  But this is all part of Quinn’s master plan to keep Liam occupied and away from Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).  Now Steffy believes Liam no longer wants her, or loves her, so Quinn is making sure her son Wyatt (Darin Brooks) has time to woo Steffy.  It’s twisted Quinn logic at her best!

ABC’s General Hospital saw a slight uptick in viewers adding +39,000 eyeballs for the week making their total viewer average 3,024,000.  However, GH lost viewers in all three key women’s demo categories.  And as for Days of our Lives, they were the only soap opera to lose total viewers for the week with – 56,000,  and then coming in at an average of 2,511,000, plus losing the most viewers across the board in all key demographic categories.  To check the entire ratings picture via SON click here.

A killing will bring in viewers..
Dr, Anderson’s death brought in viewers..
Fans read the spoilers and only watch on the days something seems interesting to them, like a killing..
Killings bring in more absent viewers than weddings LOL

    Rose replied

No killings on GH or B&B and they had increases. And since Dr. Anderson’s “killing” came quickly and was a bit of a surprise, don’t think that was the reason for Y&R increase. But for some like you, possibly the icing on the cake.

    Shay replied

@Rose….Were GH to have some beneficial killings, you’d see a huge hike in the ratings! If there’s any soap screaming for at the very least a few well-chosen deaths to cull the numbers in its bloated cast, it’s this one! I’m suggesting a Dynasty-style Moldavian wedding massacre certainly wouldn’t have gone amiss at the Julian/Alexis matrimonial debacle…..there are plenty of expendable characters who shall be attending that mess of a marital event, and we both already know that absolutely nobody of consequence will emerge (permanently) scathed by the foreshadowed violence. And that’s the problem….there is this tendency by the showrunners to hold on to far too many characters out of a misplaced sense of loyalty or fondness even if they fail to catch fire or serve any real purpose. Sure, every once in awhile they make a big deal out of eliminating a popular legacy role like that of AJ or Duke, but on the whole, GH utilizes this plot device much too rarely. Then again, there are many other scenarios where a mere stroke of a pen could expediently clear the deck of marginal players, and I wish they would employ this method since there is such an obvious absence of the more dramatic death scenes. For example, Nina could take off with Crimson for NYC, leaving Maxie in charge of Port Charles operations, Sabs could decide to remain in PR with her Carlos-issued infant, Ava could abscond with Avery to parts unknown in order ensure her child’s future safety and Jordan could return to her federal employment allowing Anna to immediately resume her old position as PCPD commissioner…. Those are but four very quick and easy-peasy solutions that would require little time or effort, but would be extremely effective in extinguishing these dead-end characters’ presence on the GH canvas. Even more intriguingly, Hayden should take a nosedive off the parapet at Wyndemere, leaving a nifty old-fashioned whodunit to be solved…just think of all the superb suspects…Nik, Laura, Liz, even Helena???? And so on, and so forth….all I’m really saying is that there is such a lack of imagination in addressing the overcrowded atmosphere in Port Charles, and a few—or more—inventive “killings” would certainly prove a most rapid and effective means of alleviating that situation.

    Stanley, you are so violent!

I hope for brighter Days ahead…too much gloom and doom is a downer and keeping the show in 4th… it was nice to see Days do that beach location shoot…still all ratings are ok but could be better-the return of CM as Will could give the show a much needed boost…i believe Sonny knows Will is alive…he did not forget Ariana…he is helping Sami with a comatose Will who will awaken from his coma and suffering from amnesia…i know we seen Will brutally attacked by Ben and looked as dead as could be but i still say off camera a pulse was found, Will survived and was in a coma, his funeral staged, and soon he will be coming home and Sonny will help him work on regaining his memory-its a soap where anything can happen so fans rejoice!!!!

  3. Lia says:

I don’t know why anyone is watching Quinn’s insanity. Brad Bell has written such a horrible character, I refuse to watch her anymore. She just needs to be in prison.

    Ollie replied

Lia I agree with you! I can’t believe the current storyline with crazy Quinn planning to murder brain damaged Liam! Nuts! I refuse to watch it! Brad Bell should let Quinn fall if she tries to push Liam over the cliff! It’s ridiculous the way they have to write a crazy story line just to slow down a relationship just before marriage. Crazy!

    Ollie replied

I almost lost my cookies when “Adam and Eve” slept together!! Quinn Yuck!

  4. Mateo says:

As much as I hate to admit it, Y&R has been firing on all cylinders lately. Their stories are good. The cast is throwing in majorly good performances and they have great pacing. The only disgusting story on Y&R story is Lily and Cane. I swear all those two do is bang. Period. No story. No acting. Just get under the sheets. It’s HORRIBLE. The rest is good. Phyllis and the new Billy (Jason Thompson) are killing it. Victoria and Victor together are magic each and every time. Great father and daughter portrayals. I love the show even if some of the plot devices are retreads.

    Harry 1 replied

    I do agree, Mateo.

  5. robert says:

was not surprised Y&R was up. a murder usually brings in viewers. i bet the highest rated shows were centered around the Dr. Anderson reveal and murder

  6. damien says:

viewers want to see Shick together again! we want our supercouples facing adversity and possibly reuniting!… shick, villy, hevon….not some b.s feud with victor vs some nobody villian, luca! thats why y n r s ratings are up and days are down, forced couplings like rafe/ hope and nicole / daniel doesnt work, too much dark material and no couples to root for! days is disappointing …

  7. su0000 says:

Total Viewers +/- compared to last year
    Days +213,000
    Y&R +118,000
    B&B +22,000
    GH -10,000 <——–

    just saying …..

    4ever DAYS replied

Thanks for pointing that out, su0000! Although DAYS lost a little from the previous week, it still has way more viewers than last year!

    tim S replied

Good Point su0000 … Days is dark and depressing… .but liking it these days….. those poor characters in Salem.. I can’t think of one happy person on that soap.. Lots of stuff going against them… wow…

    Patrick replied

    Thanks @su

am quoting, Ken Corday : “you will not recognize Days 6 months in”

that would be.. August, 2015 – January, 2016

who is responsible for this DAYS resurgence? could it be Dena Higley? or .. was it Josh Griffith… brought in to splash through the 50th anniversary… and waylay the audience Ignorance… and “fire” the much talked about and upheave all that DAYS pressed?

with Dena… I’m pissed.. and OK this is not first hand… is she responsible for… the killing off of Will .. his lover.. his beloved legacy character ? the Roberts Brady crest uphold?

why fire Josh Griffith.. when… even with all the juggling… it’s still in conversation… and is the most “complete” show.. shifting not from last… but… first.. in viewer attention

was it really because he commanded that much cache? he lined his bank with too much green.. and this is a budget fine line? meh on his ego

why wouldn’t NBC and Sony NOT run interference if ego and promise is not met?

why is KEN CORDAY.. not steering and catching DAILIES on an everyday

I so want.. with my hearts desire.. plus.. that Dena and Ryan find a likeness ; find a semblance; find a cornerstone; find an audience; fine tune scripts on par with equanimity

let’s go DAYS … renewed vim and vigor… pulsate

  8. Mr. X says:

A killing might equal ratings but what’s doing it for this Y&R viewer right now are all the interwoven business stories revolving around the Newman and Abbott (and one Santori for now) feuding families. Reminiscent of the old Bill Bell Y&R.

  9. Sammie Jo says:

I wish they hadn’t killed the doc off just yet, I would have liked to have seen a confrontation between her, sage, nick, sharon, & dylan, when pattie finally remembers and spills about the baby.
They could have had her run from all of them and jump out the window. SPLAT!

  10. Harry 1 says:

GH is losing viewers due to incredibly bad writing. It seems they put the cart before the donkey as far as actors and characters are concerned.
The writers, both past and present, and producers focus on nabbing that prize of an actor and then once they get them, they write their character ass backwards.
This is what has happened with Paul, Ava, Nina, Franco and Julian. They write these characters into a corner and the end result is that there is serious damage control transpiring and ultimately that character fails.
This is currently going on with Paul Hornsby big time. I was hoping things would improve with the new writing regime but I am afraid as long as Frank V is executive producer this will continue to go on.

    tim S replied

I agree.. bad writing… bad writing!

  11. Patrick says:

Days of OUR Lives : Co-STARS who are bonded and working it

Jenn Lilly & Arianne Zucker : Theresa and Nicole

in the latest SOD issue: an interview with Arianne Zucker… who is nearing her 19th year at DAYS; shared .. this….

“Jenn Lilly (Theresa) and I have had some funny scenes where we’ve laughed hysterically. We’ve had to stop & start over. We have a really good time together. We call each other our sister-wives. Jenn has a great personality and she really loves her job ; it makes it really fun to work with her. ”

I’ve noticed a nice camaraderie on screen with these two…

    gotta celebrate my girls

whodathunk… it’s been so long…. Theresa and Nicole each needed a BFF.. this is a real girlfriend thing going on

    tim S replied

Both Actresses are doing great at Days. … I have become very fond of Arianne.. she has been doing a great job.. They need to hook up her up with a good actor.. someone that is not as predictable and they have a good odd chemistry.. I am not wanting her with that new doctor… please keep them apart….
