It’s been a whirlwind day for casting news for Prospect Park’s All My Children reboot which has clearly put together a teen scene and some key recasts!

Soap Opera Network reported several of these throughout the day and it was confirmed on Jill Larson’s facebook page and through various stars Twitter accounts.  Although, at this point in time, there has been no official press release from TOLN on the casting additions!

So here goes! As many fans knew when On-Air On-Soaps spoke exclusively to Jacob Young that he was not returning as JR Chandler, but the role would be recast, it would appear it has!  SON reports that Ryan Bittle is the new JR!  Bittle is known for roles in television’s Sweet Valley High, and has appeared more recently on Bones and The New Normal!

More casting news included:  Eric Nelson as the SORAS’d AJ Chandler, son of JR and Babe! And, Denyse Tonz is playing Miranda Montgomery, daughter of Bianca Montgomery and Michael Cambias.

In addition, Sal Stowers has been cast in the role of Cassandra, the adopted daughter of Dr. Angie Hubbard.  Stowers also appeared on America’s Top Model, as did her predecessor YaYa DaCosta!

What do you think about all the new cast additions All My Children fans? Are you into it?  Will you give them all a fair shot to win you over in their respective roles?  Let us know!

Ryan Bittle – the NEW JR.

He has that intensity that Jacob Young portrayed….. and that’s a big draw.

Another point that might be of interest to viewers is that Petey Cortland was a mixture of being partially nerdy and a little off-beat in other ways. He is the son of the late Palmer Cortland and funny and lovable Opal, and was a clever combination of those two.
Now guess what he’s a runway male model.

I will give any actor or actress a fair shot in a role. When the actress who originated the role of BABE vacated the part, I did not care for her replacement – but there have been others who have take over roles and done well with them. I just hope they aren’t going for strictly “eye candy” and I STILL am not crazy about moving things forward FIVE years, so that now Bianca, who a few short years ago was just a teen, will now have an almost grown daughter of her own, pretty soon Erica Kane will be a great great great Grandmother at this rate. But, I am just one of many long-time viewers, and I guess what will be, will be.

I agree with you. I previously made some of these same comments. A year later would have made more sense to start the show. OLTL isnt advancing 5 years. But im still willing to see if it works out jumping ahead so far. I hate judging something ive not seen.

I also agree advancing 5 years is ludicrious. One or two at the most. Bianca was in her 20′s so having a teenage daughter is unrealistic! Petey’s character was nerdy, so now they are changing the entire character with this new actor. I’m definitely not enthralled with these changes! If Susan Lucci doesn’t come back, I probably won’t watch the show.

Bianca was not a teen a few short years ago…she was a late teenager almost 15 years ago…so she could easily be the mother of a teenager. I wish they‘d make her straight again. My cousin had 2 kids, then dabbled in lesbianism because she had been abused by her father and her husband, then she thankfully went back to being straight. Biance could easily do the same.

Uh, people don’t “turn” to being gay. It’s not a light switch you can turn on and off. Either you’re gay or your not, and Bianca has always been gay. There’s no need for her to go back to something she’s never been before.

    Johnny replied

She “thankfully” went back to being straight? Bianca is written as a gay character and while I’m not a lesbian, your comment is really offensive to gay women. Bianca didn’t “dabble” in lesbianism as if she were taking a class in
Pottery, it’s WHO she is. The actress who portrays her doesn’t look old enough to have a full grown daughter but I guess that’s nothing new in the Soap world.

I’m going to watch a couple of the shows but it doesn’t appear to have enough of the old cast and I’m not looking to start watching a new soap. At least OLTL has a lot of the original cast back so I probably will watch at least that soap unless they start doing the same thing with all the recast. I understand some recasting but AMC appears to be interested in going in a totally different direction of the soap I loved to watch.

I agree. PP has made it clear that they want and need new and younger people to tune in for them to be successful – which I hope they are as I think it’s great that it provides work for both the actors and crew. But the veteran cast will be phased out IMO because a) they are a more expensive salary; b) I think they are going to get tired of being in the background. The show is going to be around 25 minutes long, 4x a week. Not sure how many characters/stories they can service.

Actually we have no idea, at all, which direction AMC will going :)
The new teens brought in are the children of original cast, just aged, which is needed if there is to be drama..
young children are not usable for stories as they do not have active lives to have stories..
Older is needed to create drama.. young children are cute to look at but they do homework and not much more .
AMC is going to be good, ask Agnes :) …………… exciting!

Sometimes i do hate the child aging process on soaps because it looks a lot ridiculous seeing the parent such as the mother looking young enough to be her sons girlfriend. You have a lady at age 20 give birth to a son and ten years later he’s suddenly in his 20s. It often makes the mother/son relationship look unbelievable. I do remember when they kinda spoofed this on Dark Shadows in the 1960s during its alien creature storyline. First they had an infant who about a week later is suddenly 7, then a week later he is 12, and after around another week he is like a 25 year old adult male. While this all worked for DS which was weired to begin with, and my favorite soap of all, it just doesnt always work for me with the other serials. I understand they do this to give the actors more storyline but it usually also makes the parent seem far less important as the shows leading characters. I feel thats what happened to Doug and Julie on DOOLs when Dougs daughter Hope was aged to a teenager in the early 1980s. The only plus side is we got Kristin Alfonso who, unfortunately, has recently been reduced to backburner status with her character of Hope by the unexplained abscence of Hopes hubby Bo. They either need to do a recast or kill the character off.

The storyline you’re referring to in Dark Shadows was “The Leviathan” arc and that was totally different than what AMC (and almost all soaps) do. In DS, the child was quickly “grown” to achieve an age-old prophecy; such was the case with DS’s gothic storylines. In modern day soaps, the child is “aged” to open up more storylines. Does Cady McClain look old enough to have a 27-year old son when she’s barely 40 herself? No. But the JR/Babe storylines couldn’t have been told if JR remained a teenager. I’m looking forward to see what AMC is going to do.

I was a member of DS fan club for many years and do know about the Leviathans. Actress Marsha Mason played a brief part in this storyline. In one of our fan club booklets it was discussed how the aging child process was used sort of as an inside joke on DS on how other normal soaps rapidly age their kids, so thats why i mentioned it here. I know DS is different being a horror soap that featured vampires, werewolves ect. but they still had some regular soap moments too. AMC does have to age the kids anyway because of the 5 year jump ahead, and i know all soaps age children for additional story material and it does refreshen a show as well but sometimes it just doesnt fit well with me. On DOOL E.J. should be more around Wills age and not around the age of Wills mom Sami. E.J. was aged too far ahead which doesnt feel plausible or realistic to me. I understand why soaps do it but in some cases it just looks a little ridiculous to me. I cant do anything about it, and so ill accept and move on.

    Johnny replied

I agree completely, in recent years Dixie looked more like JR Chandler’s sister than his mom. Nowadays, with actors and actresses having nips and tucks and injections and who knows what, they stay youthful looking for as long as possible. I don’t fault them for it, they are in the public eye, they want to keep working, etc. But it starts to look ridiculous when a child goes “off to school” or “off to visit Grandma” and comes back 25 years old. Bianca, regardless of who is playing her, looks like a young girl to me, it doesn’t seem like she would have a grown teen-aged daughter. I know that these are “soaps” but it really does distract from any semblence of reality when they totally disregard a normal aging process and continue to do this. Dixie now according to this casting update would technically have a Seventeen year old GRANDCHILD and she barely looks like she is 30 something herself, it certainly does not look plausible or realistic to most viewers.

Ryan is 37, Eric is 22. It makes it really ludicrous when you have actors in such close age. Why do they need to age the kids so drastically? Create other age appropriate characters. Use your imagination!

Eric will probably be 22 in real life playing a 16 year old. Looks like he can pull it off,. Then what is the problem? Nate on OLTL was a senior in high school but in real life was 25 or so.

I really don’t see a problem with the recasts at this point. Kinda know what Ryan Bittle can do since he has acted before, even on AMC. But one has to wonder about PP catering to teens by going in the younger direction with the cast. Doesn’t make any friends of us long time soap fans that fought so hard to help get them back on the “air”.

I doubt PP is catering to the teens ..
Never forget.. when AMC was at its’ best it involved ‘ the families’ of the teens ..
Erica drove Mona and most everyone crazy by her antics and the stories were not about the teens but their families and others affected by their actions, which were most the cast lol..
After all it is about the children ” all My children” they created most the drama but it was the families that were involved .. Philip created much for Ruth and Joe.. Erica’s children created most of her good stories ..
And never forget Tad when he first entered Pine Valley and all the huge stories that teen Tad (and his friends and enemies created, include Liza, Jenny and Greg .. include Jessie and Angie, all the drama they brought to stories.
AMC was full of ”children” :)

Does anyone even remember why they started watching AMC in the first place? Because of it’s youth-oriented storylines. Hence the name — ALL MY CHILDREN. The fact that AMC is going back to its roots is no surprise. I hope it works for them.

The character of Dixie Martin is about 39 or so if we are to believe the storyline. So how the heck can she have a son who appears to be about 37? Cady looks very very young (well to me she does) and it doesn’t appear plausible that she would have a SEVENTEEN year old Grandchild! I know the Soaps are well known for 12 year olds going off to school or off to Europe and come back to town as a twenty five year old but THIS is a bit much ~

All My Children started with a heavy emphasis on Erica and the teen scene. It went back to the well during the 80’s with Tad, Jenny, Angie and Jesse. Many describe those as the golden years of AMC.. I think making the children and PVH a focus makes perfect sense. It’s a good looking group. Hope they can act. Glad they have cast so many vets for them to interact with. Hopefully the vets continue to drive story as well.

I hope so too, I really hope the more seasoned Veteran actors aren’t just reduced to “window dressing” – I’m not saying that there has to be a storyline about Tad’s enlarged prostate or Brook’s hot flashes but I, like many viewers of Tad Martin’s generation will not be enthralled by teeny bopper storylines. Please, don’t everyone attack me, I’m just stating an opinion – I’m hoping for a multi-generational storyline, I would like to see all age groups represented, that’s all.

That’s an interesting way to phrase it, and it will be a new experience – if there are too many silly teen scenes, they can be fast forwarded with on line streaming. Media viewing is a totally different thing today, it’s not like years ago when people literally watched an afternoon Soap Opera and were also bombarded with laundry and dish detergent commercials. I no longer have the patience to sit through endless advertisements and I think others feel the same way, and Producers know they have to have a good enticing product that can compete with other dramatic offerings. So, like yourself, I am hoping for enough familiar faces combined with strong writing to keep most of us who “grew up” with the show interested.
