And while, On-Air On-Soaps does not release it’s official Best and Worst List till the final week of December leading into New Year’s Eve, here were Soap Opera Digest picks in a few of the major categories! (To see them all, run don’t walk to your newsstands and pick up the latest issue on sale now!)
SOD names General Hospital as the Best Show Of 2012 citing, “GH consistently charmed churned out episodes rich with humor, heart, surprise after surprise, that checked off items on viewers wish list one by one!”
On the flip side SOD named The Young and the Restless, Most Disappointing Show of 2012 commenting, “Stories predicated on the trouble-making of an unhinged psycho are tried-and-true soap fare, but you’d think Y&R would have learned a lesson from 2011. We got more Patty (in a cartoonish reprisal), Daisy screeching that she just wanted to be loved and Ricky suddenly unspooling into a homicidal maniac, with his own dad, Paul, being charged with his death!”
One Life to Live was given the honor of Best Goodbye for it’s send0ff, with SOD reminding us all, “The build to the final of episodes was enriched by fan-fave returns as OLTL’s writer delicately interwove heartfelt themes of love and family incorporating the entire cast, punctuated by reunions, new beginnings, satisfying resolutions and a stunning surprise. As much as we hated to say farewell, it was a hankie-worthy joy to see it go out on top.”
