42 May 14th, 2011 Soap replacements; The Chew & The Revolution Promos Revealed!

Soap Opera Network got their hands on the first look video promotional materials for The Chew, the replacement for All My Children, hosted by Mario Batali, Clinton Kelly, Carly Hall, Michael Symon and Daphne Oz, (daughter of Dr. Oz!) and, The Revolution, the replacement series for One Life to Live.

The Revolution features Tim Gunn, Harley Pasternak, and Kimberley Locke as co-hosts who take woman on a 360 degree metamorphosis. ABC Daytime is launching these new series under the new promotional banner/campaign for the day-part; It’s a Brand New Day. Materials for the campaign will be sent out to advertisers and press outlets beginning next week as the network presents its 2011-2012 Upfronts at Lincoln Center in New York City on Tuesday, May 17. This is also the place that soap protesters will be making their voices heard in defiance of the decision by the network to cancel AMC and OLTL.

Since The Revolution is premiering on Monday, January 23rd, that would mean that One Life to Live’s last airdate would then make sense to be Friday, January 20, 2012. The last episode of OLTL had been in question as to which Friday in January would be the last time we see the residents of Llanview.

Boo. Hiss. How could they possibly do this, with all the money they already have, knowing how many people (who don’t have their fortunes) lost their jobs so that these shows can air?

We have basic cable channels for these types of shows. ABC, CBS, and NBC are where we look for soaps in the daytime. I have not watched Let’s Make A Deal or The Talk and I won’t ever watch these two shows either.

People just don’t give a darn about others’ livelihoods anymore and I won’t support it.

Shame on all who are responsible for the loss of jobs for so many people that resulted from the cancellation of daytime soaps. It is NOT the fans or the viewers. We are still watching and mourning the shows that are gone.

Two thumsb down, way down! If I wanted to watch either of these shows, I would tune in to The Food Network, or watch The Biggest Loser on NBC, or Extreme Makeover the latest version set to appear ABC Primetime any day now.

You should make more comments like this… It’s been six months now..Why haven’t you made more comments concerning the soaps? There are commericls for The Revolution now…Doesn’t that upset you??? We should support the soap’s with alot more comments like this one..I will be watching OLTL on the internet when it comes on in Jan. 2012..Everyone will be watching AMC & OLTL on the internet & no one will be watching daytime programing on ABC……..A lot of the actors & actresses agreed to do this such as Michael Easton & viickie Etc.. I read it on the computer…You should be very angry w/ Brian Frons . It’s all huis fault!!! He should BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!

These new shows that ABC is putting up I have absolutely NO interest in. If I wanted to watch this type of show there are plenty of channels that are promoting these . To take All My Children and One Life to Live for this is unimaginable. Why ABC would make such a bad mistake. Money is the only motive, but what about all the ones that are going to lose their jobs now…what about them. Brian Frons is the only one that he cares about …himself, his pockets. More money for him, and who cares what happens to the rest. I will NOT watch these shows and am so disappointed that they are going off the air. They are making a huge mistake!!!

Nobody is interested in these new shows. AMC and OLTL have a very large and loyal following. They even have an entire publications that sells millions dedicated to these shows. I’m really tired of corporate america deciding what we want to watch without any real data to support their decisions. These are not quality shows; they are just dirt cheap to produce and will most likely be off the air after a year or so. Keep the soaps and quit feeding us a load of you know what.

This very avoidable public relations fiasco, spawned by Sweeney & Frons’ gross and erroneous miscalculations and skewed ratings systems – will be studied in business schools throughout the world for many years to come, as how NOT to run a business, how NOT to a broadcasting enterprise, how NOT to run an entertainment conglomerate that was founded on all things HOSPITALITY. When all is said and done, it will be said that these cancellations were an infamous decision on the part of Anne Sweeney, Brian Frons, and Asleep at the Wheel Disney’s Iger. Walt Disney must be spinning in his grave given what these three Bungling Burbank Buffoons and their suicidal pact have done to his American Treasure. Sweeney and Frons are an utter disgrace to the honorable traditions of the American broadcasting industry and every good thing that it stands for. They should both be hung in effigy by the AARP for their rank ageism, sexism, and discrimination. Sweeney is a disgrace, too, to the hard won achievements of the great womens movement in this country, and NOW should hang her in effigy too, since she actively promoted and supported Frons – and hence — his egregious conduct, including his many public sexist comments, as she also supported these antiquated and reactionary schlock tv programming efforts. This she did following the orchestrated wrecking operations, the genocidal destruction of a great classical American storytelling Genre. Google “Batali + lawsuits” to see the character likes of a Disney/ABC replacement talk show host? To the Disney Board and its stockholders: What about Corporate Social Responsibility on the part of Disney/ABC and its many sponsors? Where is it? Trashing a great American classical entertainment institution? Trademarking the Bin Laden capture group’s name for merchandising? Piloting a show titled “Good Christian Bitches”? I havent even thought of have the points you have made in your comment. Someone should contact AARP. That would be interesting. I also like the connection of the womens movement, and how Mrs. Sweeny would not have a job if there was no movement, and then back handly wipe out a industry that would of supported her and her acomplishments to be in a man’s world. Such disrespect. Also shame on the Disney brand for cashing in on the capture of Bin Laden

While many of the personalities in these new daytimes series are appealing and favorites of mine, I cannot and will not pay attention to their new shows. Most of these hosts already has a place somewhere on the dial, but where does daytime drama live now? Apparently nowhere. ABC’s decision to drop AMC and OLTL remains most disappointing and upsetting to me. I stil mourn the cancellation of ATWT. Surely in a tele-universe that promises (but really does not deliver) so many options, this entertaining genre of programming has a place. I love daytime and do not like this current evolution at all!

Did you also notice in the names that Dr Oz’s daughter and some of the fashion people are people that work with Oprah. I dont want to bash Oprah but no wonder she’s not sticking up for the soaps. I know she said it was a finacial reason but she has a connection by the people involed. I also did not know that The Talk was a replacement of ATWT so in honor of ATWT and their fans I will not be tuning into that program anymore.

I too am a fan many of the people on these new shows but i won’t watch them just because.i’m not blaming them for the demise of many soaps when we know its’ TPTB, i feel sad that the days of our beloved soaps are only a matter of time.i was a long time watcher of ATWT and I still miss it.it seems like we can walk on the moon but can’t find a way to keep these soaps on in one shape or another .It is so sad because their audience was so loyal because the characters became like your family!

Regarding the food show, why would I want to be associated with an alleged tip-stealer? Why would I want to cook like him unless I wanted to LOOK like him. YUCK! Also, I do not need a make-over, a new attitude or anything else associated with a metamorphosis. I have spent 54 years honing who I am and I kinda like the result.

Now let’s move on to the meat of this comment. These soaps have a loyal following consisting of millions of viewers who are multi-generational. Alas, they cost money to make. How about Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, all the CSIs, Criminal Minds and any other scripted tv show? They cost more money than the so-called reality stuff the networks are generating. No matter what you think about the soap opera genre, that is not all that is at stake here. Television viewing as you know it is at stake! That’s what is happening here, folks. Please, please look at the big picture and realize your show could be next. Join the fight – many of us are already in it to win it.

I watched the revolution promo and can’t believe ABC would replace our soaps with this stuff! BORING! OVER DONE! I don’t watch this kind of show on other networks, so why would I watch it on ABC?!!!!!

No, no, no, no, no!!!!! I will not be watching. I have been a loyal fan of AMC/OLTL for 41 years. If ABC goes forth with this my household will not be watching ABC or Disney, no Disney Stores, Disneyland, or DisneyWorld, no Disney Cruise vacation. I don’t need to watch some fat, red faced Mario Batali cook! Obviously it has done wonders for his “full-fat-bellied” body! I know all I need to know about cooking and keeping healthy! What this world does not need are more stupid reality shows that Mr. Frons, obviously having a “hate-on” for women, feels he needs to shove down our throats. Not going to take it, but I will never ever watch ABC/Disney again! Mr. Frons is killing not only great daytime tv, but many primetime shows as well……get rid of him ABC!!! and Disney, get rid of Anne Sweeney….they are costing you not only viewers, but money as well!

The only people I see viewing those shows are Rachel Ray and the parents and family members of the reality casts. Otherwise they both look like duds and been there, done that-shows to me.

These shows are more than likely doomed. Yes, I am bitter as a devote AMC and OLTL fan, and will not watch them, but putting that aside, clearly, there are enough reality shows with these themes (with varied twists), and they are certainly not needed on network TV as well. I understand that reality shows cost far less to make, BUT if the viewership is next to nothing, what exactly are you saving – 0 from 0 still equals 0, leaving no profit margin. BTW, while I have always liked Katie Couric, if she comes to ABC with her spin on yet another reality show, and takes GH out, in my opinion, that will only further infuriate those daytime fans that remain with ABC strictly for GH, and they too will then be gone. Leaving ABC wishing they hadn’t made these drastic moves.

If you want to air these shows put them in the right place, on a cooking channel or a reality show channel! we love our soaps that have had DEDICATED fans from the beginning….the Kanes, Buchannans, Kramers etc….thats OUR families too! some of us grew up with them! YOU WANT A REVOLUTION??? wait and see the revolution that is gonna happen to your networks when America turns you off and wont even hit your channels on a surf! CHEW on that ABC!!

I know if i were one of the people that are in the new shows “replacing our loved soaps AMC and OLTL, I would not even want to be the shows. I don’t think i could sleep at night or at least sleep with one eye open.
Does ABC seriously really think that these shows are going to last? I know they won’t! and knowing full well that they are putting all these people out of work?
When all said and done while these shows are in the midst of being cancelled and hopefully NBC would have already picked up the two soaps that ABC will be dead in the tiolet. And the soap fans have their last laugh.

Really???? This is the best ABC can up with??????? More garbage TV?????? I am so dissappointed in ABC and all that work there. This station has been going down hill for a very long time. I am really saddened by the loss of AMC and OLTL. I have already given up on ABC programming. I have not seen anything in new lineup worth watching. When soaps are gone then so am I ABC. To be a loyal fan means absolutely nothing to ABC. All I watch now on that network are my two soaps. I switch to different chanel when soaps are over for the day. Lots of chanels to choose from rather than ABC. I have been a loyal viewer for over 40 years. I wonder if The Chew and Revolution will attract millions of viewers? I THINK NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
