The hottest place to be in late January is Dallas!  And we are not just talking about the city, but the hit TNT reboot, where tonight long time fans of both Knots Landing and the original Dallas have gotten their wish!

TV Guide is reporting and has confirmed that Joan Van Ark and Ted Shackelford will reprise their roles as Val and Gary Ewing in a three episode arc during a family reunion in season two of the series sometime in the Spring of 2013!

As many know, when Knots Landing was created the producers spun-off Valene & Gary from Dallas to kick start the new nighttime soap in which their star-crossed love life, and dramatic twists and turns, where many times at the epicenter of the main story.  But, the duo has not visited the rest of the Ewings since the early to mid 80′s!

Word is that the executives of Dallas attempted to bring back the Knots pair last season for cameo appearances, but Shackelford, who is on The Young and the Restless as Jeffrey Bardwell, held out for a meatier storyline.  He got his wish!  Now the question is, will Val & Gary’s grown up twins Bobby and Betsy be in tow too?

What do you think of the news of Ted and Joan, or shall we say, Gary and Val, heading to Dallas?  And that is hot on the heels of the series announcing Judith Light will be appearing on Dallas too! Weigh-in!

It did not. The writter does not have much in her. Joan Van Ark was in one episode not 3. Not much, no big deal….

Incredible news, and smart of Ted to hold out! Kudos to all involved in bringing back this important couple to the Ewing fold! Val and Gary were a lesser, but very important part of the Dallas scene and perhaps even more so as their characters were the focus of the spin off. What a thrill it must be for Joan and Ted to reprise these roles! So happy for them and for us!!!!!!! Can’t wait!!!!!!!

Big news, not really big let down. Not much for Joan and Ted in the new Dallas. Joan had just one line or so. What a drag…

dallas needs more racial diversity. texas has large population of Asians and blacks and hispanics. soap operas need to portray more blacks and hispanics as the romantic leads and they definitely need Asians as romantic leading characters bec there are none on any soap opera! acting is not merit based. actors are not required to study acting and have all kinds of experience and training. all that is required of an actor is saying the lines and knowing the blocking. being good is subjective. acting isn’t a meritocracy. anyone can be given the opportunity to be an actor. hollywood needs to shut up abt loving racial diversity and cast more racial minorities not as supporting characters but as the leading characters. but hollywood only likes talking abt racial diversity bec based on their casting and storylines hollywood obviously is extremely racist.

Uhh, yeah, they do. I like “Dallas” like anyone else, but the real Dallas, Texas has a huge Hispanic and black population. This could be reflected in current storylines. This is not 1980, after all…

Brilliant! I am so happy that a little bit of Knots will live on… however, I wish they could find a way to make Abby Fairgate tag along. She was the J.R. of that show and could go with Larry Hagman toe to toe. What can you say about Abby other than… the eyes have it! :-)

Best news of the day! thanks, Michael, for letting us know. DALLAS and KNOTS LANDING were staples of my TV diet. I am so pleased the DALLAS relaunch is working so well, and the producers have such a sense of history and respect for older actors.

Longtime fans of the original DALLAS and KNOTS LANDING will recall that while Bobby “died” and returned in a shower on DALLAS, he remained dead on KNOTS LANDING. They never addressed that “dream season” on KL. That’s why Gary & Valene named their baby after Bobby. Important for the reboot? Probably not.

Love this!!! Can’t wait for January (and I usually hate winter)! I am so glad “new” Dallas is not ignoring history. Gary was always a thorn in JR’s side, someone he just could not get rid of…

Yes, Shelly, this gives us “winter haters” something big to look forward to in January. Cannot wait. JR could not ever even stand the sight of Gary & Valene. Remember how JR just kind of sneered the word “Valeeeene” He was & still is such a bastard & how we love him & all the rest of Dallas!

And; JR couldn’t stand that Gary was Miss Ellie’s favorite. Yup he’s such a jackass, I love that character so much. I had the pleasure of meeting Larry Hagman several years ago when he visited our area. He was such a nice down to earth guy, absolutely nothing like JR.

I cant wait to see this. So glad they have some originals actors cause I would not watch it. Cant wait to see Gary and Val. I sure hope we see Karen, Abby, Greg..and more….. Hope Dallas and Knots landing will tie the knot. That would be Magic. Nothing like it….
