“What if your missing husband … father … enforcer  …. suddenly came back?  Would you care what he looked like? It’s a whole new side of Jason!”

That is what the new ABC promo officially ushering Billy Miller in the role of General Hospital’s Jason says! With this, ABC starts a whole new era of Jason Morgan (formerly played by Y&R’s Steve Burton) with the arrival of three-time Daytime Emmy winner, Miller in the pivotal role.  And from the looks of this spot, GH is planning on keeping Mr.  Miller front and center stage … where he should be!

In story as of now, Jason is recovering from serious injuries sustained from being mowed down by the car driven by a hysterical Ava Jerome (Maura West)! Wrapped in bandages and unable to recall is life, no one knows that “John Doe” is Jason with a new face!  And as GH previews in the promo for next week … we will being to see much more of Billy Miller!

Watch the  promo after the jump! Then let us know, if you are looking forward to seeing how Jason’s path to those he loves plays out?  And, if you are already digging Billy as Jason even those he has just had a few lines of dialog?

I didn’t watch GH at all during the Jason years. So, the whole character & the actor is new to me. I have nothing to compare this portrayal with, so I guess that’s good. I do like Britt & Nick together though. So, IMO, it’s fine if Elizabeth is coupled with Jason while Sam & Patrick do their own little dance.

From what I’ve seen, Miller is very charming. The problem I have with him is that he is playing the scenes too lighthearted, with too much humour. No, he doesn’t have to imitate and play “stone cold”. But for a character that supposedly has no memory or family, he’s awfully happy, joking, and hasn’t a care in the world. He seems to be playing the same way he played on Y&R, but it’s a different scenario. More nuance, sir!

Out of all the Actors I could only see him playing the roll. He knows Steve Burton and when Steve left the roll of Jason and moved to Y&R, Billy Miller was there. It was like it was meant to be Steve handed the roll over to Billy. It is all okay!

I hope this version of Jason is a Quartermaine doctor! Bring back the Q’s! Love seeing Ned, again. Always love Tracy!

Billy Miller has chemistry with everyone he works with. He’s just terrific. GH has scored a MAJOR coup signing him. Y&R’s loss, and I mean a huge loss.

    Reply

    Laurie replied

I agree, Tina. And it sounds kinda silly, but there is something serendipitous about the way SB allegedly fibbed to his fans about why he was leaving GH (although I do believe he did move to Nashville & the man has a right to move on), but then moved to Y&R w/the departing GH Executive Producer, JFP, when she was hired at Y&R, and THEN, she allegedly ran off or fired many of the top talent and fan favorites all at once. She alienated their target age demographic, 18-49 & lost almost a million viewers by refusing to fight for fan favorites, stellar actors! Then, allegedly, insulted ALL Y&R fans by saying people would forget Billy Miller’s name the day after his last airdate (WRONG!)..after the man won 2 Emmys for the show & another AFTER he was long gone. Sorry, some of me takes pleasure in the fact that GH has BM and SB has Y&R & they have him, JFP ALLEGEDLY flies him back and forth from Nashville to shoot each week. Now I don’t care who she flies and it’s her business and her job, but I find it odd she couldn’t work w/BM in regard to a clause in his contract, but can do all of that other stuff for a new character. The fans have nicknamed his Dylan character “Dullen”..a fact!
I know it’s childish, but I think it’s funny we got MS, ER, MW (another EP fired her) & BM, and Y&R got SB! Say what you will about Cartini folks, but I didn’t see a slaughter of such epic proportions when they signed up to GH. They hired their favorites, sure, but they didn’t ax fan favs. Sure they are too cast heavy right now, but they seem to work it pretty well. JMO

    KMB replied

Seriously? JFP said fans would forget Billy Miller after he left?! Nope, sorry Jill, we didn’t forget Billy Miller at all. In fact many of us dumped Y&R after he left. That’s ok, you do have Dullen….

    scyren replied

Why do people have to insult Steve? Everyone is making it about BM. I’m more interested in the character of Jason. If they are going to change the character to fit BM then I don’t want him. I don’t care how good of an actor he is. I wasn’t a fan of the character he played Y&R at all. So, I really didn’t miss him. I’ll take Dullen over that loser Billy any day.

    Laurie replied

He was soooo much better on Y&R than AMC, IMO, but AMC was his first soap role and really expanded his acting and role on Y&R over 6 years, IMO. He’s at the top of his game, thus far, right now!

    harry replied

I thought he was terrific on AMC. He was handed some pretty lousy material but he rose above it. Back then, every male character was sacrificed to the Ryan Lavery volcano.

Wasn’t watching when the original Jason was on. I know about the character and his history, but have no preconceived ideas on how Jason should be– but I thought it was very clever and telling that they had Billy in a white Tee shirt, when apparently the old Jason only wore black– I think that about says it all on what we should expect from nuJason.

    Reply

    CeeCee replied

Mary, what an insightful observation! Billy wearing a white Tee in contrast to Steve’s black. As you so eloquently are hinting , the mere color is very ‘telling’ , actually foretelling that nuJason will be completely different from the Jason with which the audience was familiar. How intuitive of you!

Great observations! Has anyone noticed that Sam quit wearing all black a while ago? She wears white a lot….. Hmmmm.

    CeeCee replied

I must add, Mary, that I admire your prophetic observation. ….to elaborate….great symbolism by TPTB……white, the symbol of purity and goodness. Also, it could represent a fresh, new and clean start for Jason.
Now, that you brought this up, Mary? All sorts of ideas are invading my brain…LOL.

    Timmm replied

Great observation. I hope he is the Lone Ranger and not Black Bart! I want Jason away from Sonny and in lab coat on GH with his mummy! [Alan would be so proud!]

    Reply

    harry replied

White is actually multilayered and somewhat paradoxical with its symbolic significance. Sometimes, yes, it can signify purity and innocence, but often it is symbolic of death (think Tennessee William’s play, “Suddenly Last Summer” in which Sebastian is on the white beach, with the white birds running down the white street toward certain death with the backdrop of the white sky looking down at the death scene like a silent witness). Springing forth from the death imagery, white comes to symbolize rebirth, resurrection which would fit accordingly with Jason rising from the waters of Port Charles.
Or….it could simply mean that Billy Miller now own this role.

    Timmm replied

Thanks Harry, good info. So when a bride wears white on her wedding day its suppose to be a symbol of purity. Could it mean that she is heading towards her demise? Also, women often like to have whit doves released on their wedding day. I’M CONFUSED!

    CeeCee replied

As I intimated earlier, Timmm, white does symbolize purity, supposedly, that is the reason brides wear white. But, in reality, who is virginal anymore? It has only become traditional, mainly in the western world.
As Mary observed, nuJason is wearing a white Tee. To me it is this stark contrast that is a dead give-away to expect a completely different Jason, not just the person, but the persona; his mien….
I vaguely remember dissecting SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER in my 11th or 12th grade English Lit. Class…..the white bathing suit worn by Catherine did symbolize her purity, albeit the transparency of it gave the scenario in the water a baser meaning. So, Harry is right when he says that the color white takes a darker, more sinister meaning because of Sebastian’s deviltry…..am I getting it right, Harry?
However, in this case, I think the white Tee basically emphasizes the marked difference between the two Jasons….JMO.
I always thought that the release of white doves, Timmm, was also a symbol of purity ; in other words a bride gives herself to her husband freely and willingly by giving him her virginity. Thus, the release of the symbolic doves.
    Very archaic, Timmm, no? LOL.

    Shay replied

Yes, MarySF, as soon as I saw that white tee-shirt, I also gleaned that this is a symbolic omen that Billy Miller is not going to be the same version of Jason that SB portrayed….thank God! Although I felt no actual animus for that particular Mr. Morgan, I really just tolerated him and felt no great loss when the actor who portrayed him chose to leave the show. Hence, I am greatly intrigued that a new (and improved?) Jason is on the drawing board…..hopefully much less emotionally stunted, “dark” and criminal in nature!!!!

I think they somewhat explained that when Jason ripped out his breathing tube at the clinic, Robin mentioned he damaged his vocal chords and there was swelling. So I have been assuming that explains why his voice no longer sounds the same. But sometimes soaps just expect us to go with it– even if it makes little sense in the real world.

    Timmm replied

Thats true but sometimes you are just caught off guard. Even if its in real life. No one has suspicion that Jason is alive so they are not looking in John Doe’s eyes or listening closely to his voice YET!

    Shay replied

@Harry….In response to your “Dr. O.” comment, I have to say that I was simply enchanted with the “Everything’s coming up Liesel” episode of Monday. I realize she is not your cup of tea, but her “Swiss Sisses” mash-up with Magda just thrilled me to no end….particularly since Mutter basically validated my lengthy theory I posited at the bottom of this page yesterday morning…In other words, yep, Nina was always a nutter….let’s just say that her mental shortcomings were in-(West)bourne, and the coma only intensified whatever psychoses were already present. I think Silas knew way back when but was in a guilt-induced state of denial due to his infidelity and Nina’s subsequent 20+year session with the Sandman. It was hugely satisfying to see Dr.Clay’s current suspicions confirmed…..especially when he got a load of those twisted texts his desperate wifey kept sending. (How ’bout the copious use of those emoticons???? That right there is conclusive evidence the broad is totally off her rocker…..LOL!) Now if he can only lock her up and throw away the key…although not in proximity to the that “Lunatique Extraordinaire,” Heather Webber!!!! Can you just imagine if those two joined forces given their common ties to Franco???? As for “Auntie Liesel” helping her niece obtain revenge over Silas….I’m not so sure I’d want to see that….Obrecht does have moments of brilliant lucidity when she actually does the right thing….she certainly correctly called out Madeline on her cuckoo kid’s history of instability!

  14. MidwestVoice says:

This is still kind of raw & too soon for me, since I hated to see him leaving the role as “Billy Abbot” on CBS’ Y & R, (which he was brilliant in). However, Billy Miller is an amazing talent with a whole lot of talent & charisma. If any one is able to fill Steve Burton’s shoes as “Jason”, it’s Billy Miller. Great choice ABC!

Billy will bring a gorgeous smile to Jason’s face. We do not need another marble face worn by SB, nor do we need another moping stiff (ME) roaming the halls of GH.

I think Steve Burton said himself that Billy Miller would make an awesome Jason. It seems Steve has really moved on and has no intention, at least not now of returning to play Jason. He likes being on Y&R.

    MarcyJ replied

Steve Burton has thrown his lot in with Jill Farren Phelps. He’s not leaving Y&R as long as she’s there. Once she’s fired, he’ll exit too. Maybe then Billy Miller might return to Y&R. I don’t think Burton will ever be welcomed back to GH now.

    Shay replied

Exactly, CeeCee!!! Goodbye “Stone Cold,” hello “Hot Stuff!” Jason’s temperature has already hit a new high—no pun intended—–with Billy Miller’s welcome warmth-filled debut in the role of the previously icy hard guy. Cartini got this one right…..

    scyren replied

You people do realize that Jason has brain damage and that is why he acted the way he did. I don’t get why everyone is so excited that they are going to drastically change the character. They could have just created a new character. I think people care more about BM then they do character integrity. I actually liked that Jason was a completely unique character. There was no one like him on daytime. He was stone cold for a reason because supposedly he was wired differently. I guess being road kill magically made his brain damage disappeared. So stupid.

Helena really shouldn’t be alive again. Don’t get me wrong, I love the character and Constance Towers is amazing. But she was shot through the heart and Luke even checked to make sure she was dead – like really dead. IMO it would have been much more powerful if that scene at Creighton-Clark, where Robin sees Helena, if it had been Faison instead. THAT would have been completely unexpected, and with Liesl, Anna and Duke talking about him so much recently, I would have expected it to be him, not Helena. It was a wasted opportunity.

    Shay replied

Very true, Jimmy. While I admire the icy elegance—not to mention much-needed glamour—that CT brings to the GH canvas as Helena, her last appearance rather fell flat. There were other super-villains that could have followed her fashionable but felonious footprints in furthering the latest storylines to much better and surprising effect….it feels as if we have all been here before with her (because well, we have!) and it gets tiresome. Furthermore, I would have much preferred a longer arc for Victor…I’m still hoping that one day in the not too far future he will re-emerge to darken Dr. O’s door once again….”Viesel” makes for a seriously scary supercouple!!!!

    Shay replied

Speaking of not-so-dead Cassadines, am I the only one who was delighted when Anna revealed that she couldn’t find any evidence of Victor’s demise in order to charge Dr. O. with murder???? That was good news on two fronts…first, it means that Liesel is once again free to roam and raise havoc amongst the denizens of Port Charles, while it also implies there is always the real possibility of a resurgent Victor. Oh, please say it’s so, Cartini!!!!

TRUE! I may be in the minority but I LOVE Victor Newman. He cracks me up. The old goat shows up at Nick and Sharon’s place, gives them a bottle of champagne to toast their impending nuptials. When they both leave the room, Old Victor puts on a pair of plastic gloves, grabs Nicholas’s champagne glass, puts in a zip lock bag and then rummages through their little girl’s pink princess back pack so he can nab her pink hair brush and then puts that in a ziplock too. He’s a portable DNA machine.
He’s the utter personfication of a Norman Rockwell grandpa.

Boy did you say a mouthful there! I agree with you.

It cracks me up when I go over to Y&R comment pages and read their comments about how far Billy Miller has fallen and how his ego got so big that he left Y&R for the big time and poor thing flopped and had to take GH out of desperation! I mean, really folks? Have you seen your show lately or do you sleep through it like I do?

I thing that seems to be true with GH is that there is clauses in their contracts for actors to take outside & primetime work. Kelly Monaco just did something as well as Parry Shen to name a few. I think that was a deciding factor for Billy to sign on.

When the rumors hit a fever pitch this summer about BM joining GH and TPTB said nothing, I was pretty confident that was a sign that he was coming. The rumors were so out of control that I feel they would have had to eventually deny them in order to not enrage hopefuls by letting the rumors continue. Posters were actually arguing back and forth about whether he was coming or not. Crazy stuff! Now they are all arguing over which woman will get him, Liz or Sam or someone new. I mean the man is still in bandages & the rivalries are raging! That’s good for Billy Miller if you ask me. Apparently many fans think he’s going to work out if they are bothering to fight over him. Lol..

I love this. It’s so nice for GH to be on a nice roll for a change with this amazing cast and fun writers and new viewers coming over for Michelle, Billy, etc…

I say if JFP and Chuck Pratt kill off ANOTHER fan favorite, Emmy Award winning Christian LeBlanc, Cartini needs to put his # on speed dial. Maybe JFP is going to use his death as her Emmy seeking gimmick for this season. Disgusting if you ask me! Don’t throw away your best actors when your show is struggling not to sink! Oh well,

However, I think, if I’m right…of course, not sure, but my thinking is it’s done purposely to play out a “what if…” What if…Jason Quarterrmaine hadn’t been in an accident and lost his memory…what would he have become, who would he have loved…using this “vehicle” (pun intended) it’s a great way to explore that. The one thing that punches a whole in the theory is the Cassadines and their plan for him…

He is truly one of the best in the industry. he and Billy Miller shared their final scenes together back at the end of January, and let me tell you, that was some of the best acting and writing I’ve seen on Y&R in a long time. It completely solidified the fact that Y&R has a huge hole missing in it right now after these 2 amazing actors left the show.

But, I’m happy Billy is back on daytime and on GH as Jason. He’ll do great in the role, just like he was great on Y&R. I just hope they allow him to use his charming sense of humour that he has in abundance, and they don’t make Jason as stark and one-dimensional as he was when Steve Burton was in the role.

For those who are fans of Billy and are familiar with his playful personality, which unmistakably comes through his acting, know what an injustice it would be to pair him with Sam. She will drag him down…just as Victoria did.

I don’t know much about JM and JQ, but from what I have gathered, Billy Miller would be better suited playing JQ. At least, I hope so. I am not into mobsters and affiliating nuJason with Sonny is just such a no-no for me.

And, unless I’m really off the mark here, there is no way that Billy Miller’s persona, even in his role-playing, will fit into Jason Morgan’s skin.

I know BM is a huge talent and has played the typical psychopath on AMC, but, that was so long ago and so brief that it’s forgotten. I like his charismatic happy-go-lucky, infectious personality to be injected into Jason Q.

I saw some of Billy Miller’s work on AMC and certainly enjoyed him as Billy Abbott on Y&R. I think his Y&R role was an excellent showcase for the actor’s smile, his charm and his comedic ability. However, Jason Morgan isn’t charming. Jason Morgan isn’t funny. Jason Morgan rarely smiles. I realize I’m voicing a minority opinion here (yet again!), but I don’t see the logic in casting an actor in a role that wastes his best attributes.

Not true, Andy. You are NOT in the minority. Your opinion reflects exactly what I have been saying all along….among many other posters.
You are right. Billy’s smile is like a healthy contagion (if there even is such an expression….I do apologize for the accidental oxymoron, though….I seem to unintentionally do that quite a few times…..lol).
When Billy played Richie on AMC we did glean how well he can assume any role….wear many masks. But, IMO Billy Miller’s persona shines when he wears that blinding smile. He can play happy, the prankster, the melancholy and yes, the miscreant, where he unwittingly falls into now and again…….but is always forgiven.
You are, of course , on the mark when you point out that if Billy Miller were to parrot Steve Burton’s Jason, he would unquestioningly waste his talents. Billy Miller needs to be showcased without manacles by GH or this outstanding actor will fall prey to yet another daytime soap-warden.
There must be a reason why he left one soap to slip into another. Perhaps his hands were bound… Not given as much rope as he would have liked—- he was limited, as I think, MM was. JMO.
For nuJason to pick up where Jason Morgan left off, would not be fair to Billy himself nor his fans.
I saw very little of Jason/Steve when I started watching GH, but his expressionless and unemotional face and fixed stare are pretty much etched in my mind. However, lo and behold, I have caught him crack a smile a here and there on Y&R ….lately! LOL

The only thing I would not want..
IF, they but the dynamic Billy Miller back with lackluster monotone no emotions Sam it will kill his charisma working with her..
The two on screen personalities would be horrible together..
Billy/Jason is so highly charismatic and Sam=blah..

    rebecca1 replied

I, like most here…think that Jason will revert to Jason Q…or perhaps neither Q nor Morgan if he doesn’t regain his memory. He may just be a tabula rasa (blank slate) and grow into someone new. We still don’t know how the Cassadine’s figure into this…he may be kidnapped and programmed by them for all we know. They did that to Lucky…

As for the monotone Jason and Steve Burton…Steve was just acting what Jason M was supposed to be. The car accident left him with brain damage…not only did he lose his memory of ever being a Q…he lost his love for them…and the ability to feel emotion. It was only through the persistence of friends…Sonny, Carly, Robin…that he found a new way ofl life and the ability to form friendships, trust and love.

The point is deadpan Jason was purposely played that way. Though Jason Morgan was eventually able to fall in love and form friendships…the accident left him in a rather low-key stage. Yes, he felt…but there was an inability to express it to the fullest. So, when everyone says they hope Billy brings more to the character…he’ll bring what’s written…if Jason is a new Jason, complete with the gamut of emotions…then, yes, he’ll emote more. But I don’t think it was Burton’s take or fault…it was as the character was written.

Regardless of whether an actor emits charm, laughter…vivaciousness…we’re watching them play a role so throw his electric personality out the window. He’s someone new now…as actors have always done…for example a brilliant yet socially stunted person like Dustin Hoffman’s Rainman…or Robin Williams (RIP) character in The Fisher King… It’s playing the dark, somber roles when it goes against who they seem to be in real life that allows them to work their craft and become the characters they’re supposed to play.

I never hear anyone saying…”oh, I hope Sandra Bullock isn’t going to play that frightened for her husband’s life…victim of recurring nightmares wife…it won’t allow her to display that quirky sense of humor of hers…

    scyren replied

Cee cee Jason didn’t always just stare. He was emotional. I don’t get why people ignore that. He was soft with Elizabeth and emotional and playful with her. He was even playful with Sam. But he was brain damaged and wired differently. You’re right. It wasn’t bad acting. In fact, I think Steve could convey so much through his body and his eyes. That is hard to do. Steve personally likes to smile and joke. So, he had to table his natural reactions. I just don’t understand how they are going to just erase his brain damage. Even if he remembers being Jason Q, it doesn’t mean his personality will change. I honestly don’t want Jason to emote more. He was fine the way he was. He got angry, he smiled and even cried when he was really sad (breakups etc.). He was intense. Those are emotions. Just because he didn’t laugh 24/7 doesn’t mean he was expressionless. He was a unique character. I don’t give a crap about BM’s quirky sense of humor just like I didn’t care that Steve was comedic. If it doesn’t make sense to the character then I don’t want to see it.

    rebecca1 replied

scyren…as you can see from my post above yours we’re totally on the same page about Steve Burton’s Jason. I think he did a fantastic job and I truly felt who he was. I think back to all the situations he was in…the breakups, losing Michael to Sonny, taking care of Michael as a baby, the breakups with Elizabeth, his torment over not being able to protect Sam when he thought Franco raped her…and it was all played with a subtle demeanor…an anguished look…sadness conveyed through his eyes, laughter through a twinkle in those same eyes.

since this is a soap…and anything can happen…maybe they’ll come up with some explanation (IF they choose to make this Jason more animated) that the accident and intensive injuries somehow changed his brain chemistry. If they can bring back the dead…they can do anything!

    Shay replied

Just by the small taste of “Jake” we’ve already been afforded, it’s pretty apparent that BM is going to successfully merge Jason M.’s somewhat stilted sense of emotion with his own trademark warmth. He’s managed to nail his basic nature while infusing the character with a charm and magnetism SB did not…whether purposely or otherwise. When those bandages were removed yesterday, I felt a real chill run up my spine….it were as if the former face of Jason never existed, as I totally bought into the notion that this is indeed the real “Quartermaine,” er “Morgan”….just a new and improved version!!!! Liz’s stunned look also spoke volumes…..it’s like she knows, even if she doesn’t quite realize she knows it yet!!!! (If those dreamy blue eyes don’t give her a clue, then that signature hairstyle ought to give it away…..LOL.)

    rebecca1 replied

When “Jason’s” bandages were removed didn’t anyone notice he had a five o’clock shadow…bordering on a beard!!! Wow! That amazing plastic surgeon fixed his face complete with facial hair! Off subject , but, I find it disturbing and unethical for Silas to pretend and profess his loyalty to his wife when he is actually scheming against her. I cannot think of a better word .
He is not only her husband but a doctor. He should have never gone to Sam with his doubts…was he trying to score points with her? Sam actually surprised me today by showing some emotion about her feelings concerning the Nina situation to Patrick…YEAEEEEEY !!!! Go Sam…lol.
Silas is acting like a complete ass (am I allowed to write that?… No other word says it better, though. Lol.) IMO he should be more concerned as to why Nina did or does what she does, instead of trying to pin her with something. I hope that is what he is doing…trying to find the reason and help her. We shall see.
If he is gathering whatever evidence to hurt her, then he’s lower than low…remember your vows and your Hippocratic oath, Silas….lol.

This is what soaps are made of…of course Silas would go to Sam! He loved Sam…he was looking forward to building a new life with Sam…he let his concern for Nina blind him to how duplicitous she was. He ignored Sam when she tried to warn him…and now he’s finally realizing Sam was right. Yes, it’s obvious he still has feelings for Sam. I’d do the same thing. If I loved a man who warned me about someone…and I lost that said man because I didn’t believe him…i’d reach out to express my feelings, to validate his suspicions…and probably hope I had another shot with him.

But I digress…I think you’re having a lot of issues with how characters behave…but the way they behave is why we watch soaps! The back and forth of couples, the betrayals, the hurt, the friendships, the enemies…they’re all over the top. That’s what they are and it’s why we keep coming back for more.

“It reminds me of that old joke- you know, a guy walks into a psychiatrist’s office and says, hey doc, my brother’s crazy! He thinks he’s a chicken. Then the doc says, why don’t you turn him in? Then the guy says, I would but I need the eggs. I guess that’s how I feel about relationships. They’re totally crazy, irrational, and absurd, but we keep going through it because we need the eggs.” Woody Allen/Annie Hall

    Shay replied

CeeCee….You state that you “find it disturbing and unethical for Silas to pretend and profess his loyalty to his wife when he is actually scheming against her” well, shazam!….isn’t that exactly what Nina is doing to Silas, too, even if it has up until now been unbeknownst to him??? Though it may be a sad statement on today’s society, I dare say, most men would have kicked that insufferable nut job to the curb long before now…at least Silas did the honorable, responsible thing and took his spouse into his home, gave her a roof over her head and paid her expenses when she (fallaciously) proclaimed destitution, while she planned and plotted his downfall all along …from that standpoint, I cannot fault him. Beyond that, the heart wants what the heart wants….Dr. Clay can’t quell his pre-established feelings for Sam… even though she eventually did the decent, classy thing and stepped aside. To ask him to suddenly ignore his smoldering emotions is an impossible request….it’s only natural for him to want another chance with his ladylove as she is moving on without him. I also don’t blame him for his revulsion where Nina is concerned….she is totally repugnant to me, as well. Her inappropriate advances in the hospital today were a major turn-off….I can see why they would be to Silas, too. He is not a trained seal who can “perform” at his oddball wife’s insistent behest. Finally, trust is a two-way street, and based upon what Dr. Clay has uncovered about Nina’s duplicity, I have to say he has been a mighty patient and self-controlled man, given the loose cannon of an albatross to which he is currently chained. While I am also old-fashioned enough to believe in vows and oaths, every relationship has it limits….Silas suffered alone for twenty-some years because of his purported “part” in his wife’s supposed tragedy….he’s paid his penance and deserves to move on….particularly in light of the revelations he is only beginning to uncover about “Le Lunatic.”

    Laurie replied

He doesn’t need to be scheming against her, because he is a DOCTOR and she is certifiably CRAZY and in need of a psych evaluation and intense therapy, and medication! Ethically this is what he needs to do-get her serious help, not plot against her. He should be finding out all the info he can about the depth of her schemes. He can still move her out and get out of the relationship at any time, and I think he should, as well as get her help. He can do both. But he will probably feel guilty and stay.

    rebecca1 replied

I don’t think he’s plotting against her. He’s playing his cards close to the vest to discern what she might have done. If he flat out asked her she’d lie and he knows it. Silas would never betray her in the sense of harming her…but he was manipulated and guilted into trying to reestablish a relationship with her when he’d already moved on. This wasn’t a fresh loss like when Patrick thought he’d lost Robin. This was twenty years! And still he did the right thing…even though he loved Sam. He took Nina in, he cared for her, financially supported her, made sure she got physical therapy and put up with Rosalie’s attitude. He lost Sam (right after losing Rafe) and…he still took care of her!

To find out after all this that she’s been lying from the beginning…that she is the one that leaked the news that Patrick wanted Rafe dead…that she is the one that tore apart his apartment…how much can someone be expected to take?

My bet is he’ll continue observing her and putting the pieces together…confront her…and then get her the help she needs. For all we know, she might already have fallen for Franco by then. Either way, I hope they keep Michael Easton on the show, give him better material to display more of his acting chops…and for his character, Silas, to be happy!

Jason should have never taken Sam back in the first place. It was completely OOC. After everything she did it made no sense at all that he would ever give her the time of day. It actually made me not like Jason. I lost any respect I had left for him after that. It disgusted me. For years he was all about protecting children. He killed people and hated people for less. Why does Sam get to have the fairytale when she did so many horrible things and other characters get nothing. I don’t get it. Sam has no personality. I don’t even think she’s remotely likeable.

I have a theory about Billy Miller’s Jason. Well, remember when Roger Howarth left One Life To Live and a new guy name Walker came to town that turned out to be Todd. Then eight years later it was revealed that he was actually Todd’s twin brother? Well, I think this guy could have been someone who got plastic surgery to look like Jason when the real Jason did cooperate with Helena, which explains when Robin “recognized” him. Then got plastic surgery and when Burton returns, or hire an actor who looks like Jason, they will do a two Jason storyline.

Hi, Laurie. I don’t think anyone is referring to Amelia, but Victoria, the character. Lately, this character has become very whiny. Maybe she always was and I didn’t see it. Sometimes when we’re really into an actor/actress, we sort of overlook his/her shortcomings.
I’ve been a fan of Amelia’s since her AMC days. However, Victoria is way too serious for Miller’s portrayal of Billy….he needs a woman with as much panache as he. I feel that even Liz is a bit too demure for my taste.but, I will not elaborate because we really don’t know what we’re going to ‘get’ from nuJason, comportment-wise.
Thus, it will be interesting to watch Jason ‘s personality unfold and see whith whom he’s better suited.
Obviously, right now, he seems to have an attachment to Liz…….not just because she’s there, in his face, as it were…..but, because he feels a connection with her. But, that may evaporate with time, as his brain starts to put the pieces together….maybe??
Personally, as much as I love beautiful Liz? I think Maxie is more the ‘thing’ for this Jason…..she has spunk.
Nathan is gorgeous and a really nice guy to boot, but I see him with Liz, I really do. Who cares if she’s older?

I’m not even opposed to Jason being alone for a while to find himself. No woman yet, just a journey of self-discovery and maybe a reunion with Monica.

    Shay,
Yes, I do find Silas’s subterfuge and appalling behavior toward his wife
    disturbing.
It’s hard to argue with you since, in my eyes, you are above and beyond
exceptional with your usage of words. You have the power to make me
believe that pigs actually fly, that elephants nest in trees, and that two Sundays
come together once in a while.

But, here comes my feeble attempt at sparring with you, for the sake of
    argument.
IMO, the audience is more accepting of someone who is a ‘nut job’ ( your moniker) because of mental illness than of someone who has a rein on his faculties, such as Silas. Nina has a good excuse, she is not cognizant of her erratic behavior, whereas DR,SILAS is.

Who can blame Nina, ….seriously? She woke up from a coma, caused by her own mother
(Which would do a number on anyone’s brain), to an upside down world, where she no longer belongs. She is befuddled to the point of seeking revenge. It is natural to place blame on those whom, she feels, perpetrated her being and existence. She feels violated and helpless. This scheming of hers, which BTW will amount to naught, gives her a semblance of some control of her life.
I am a diehard Michelle Stafford fan….my favorite soap star. I, therefore, concede that I see her character in a different light. I do believe that once one develops an antipathy for an actor/character,
everything he/she does becomes dubious, and cannot separate the two.
I do not like Sonny and I barely tolerate Sam ( time on air is undeserving, whereas Liz shines and does
not get justice). But, I shut my mind to it. It is a soap, I dispell the less than complimentary thoughts.

But, I digress. Silas was unfaithful with Ava…not so squeaky clean, but Nina forgave him because of her deep love for her husband. I would not have been so charitable. My husband would be out on his arse as
Granda would say. Nina is his wife…he owes her his fealty and as a doctor he took an oath to heal and protect. Well, Nina needs protection…can’t he tell she is mentally unstable? Why does he not try to delve into what makes her tick instead of trying to find something untoward so he could dump the baggage?
If he is indeed, trying to help her, then and only then can he be absolved of his betrayal. I don’t care about him mourning his life away for 20 years…..boo hoo…. I don’t care about his feelings for his paramour, Sam…such women come a dime a dozen.

Yeah, Shay, rebecca is probably right. I take issue with these characters. I am becoming as kooky as Nina.
LOL. It’s just a soap, right?…. Castles in the air…..bubbles, everywhere these damn bubbles…LOL.
I must be losing it. Good thing my return to the classroom is imminent. At least, there, I will have a modicum of control…..I hope…..later

Oh, CeeCee…I would never dream of trying to dissuade you from harboring your loyalty to and benevolent view of Nina, nor holding Silas to a higher level of responsibility in this situation due to his professional and marital obligations. I was simply attempting to explain why in others’ eyes MS’s character has been such a stated source of dissonance and may not warrant the same courtesies and benefit of the doubt that you so admirably have afforded her. (Plus why some of us may even consider Silas to be as much of a victim in this murky mess as his insanity-stricken spouse.) From the beginning of our Nina “odyssey,” we were sold a certain bill of goods as to the fantastically-fine female that she was purported to be…..now that she has finally been fully-introduced in the flesh, there is absolutely no similarity to the said ethereal being of near-legend….she has not a hint of that storied sweet, effervescent soul nor even a tragically weepy, wistful one which inspires sympathy despite her litany of supposed sorrows. What we have in actuality is a revenge-fueled shrew who has more than a mere loose screw….this is a raving lunatic that appears to possess not a single uplifting aspect, yet we are expected to believe this is all resultant from her two-decades long coma???? For me, something simply does not add up here. Could it be that this entire foreshadowed personality was pre-constructed as a purposeful red herring on the part of the writers and that all those near-magical qualities assigned to Nina never truly existed in the first place…at least not in reference to her husband? Was Silas initially bewitched and bewildered, then later bedeviled, by this complex creature? Perhaps the cracks in her veneer were already surfacing long before her ill-fated lapse of life, and that is what led Silas to find comfort in Ava’s charms and arms???? (Still no valid excuse for infidelity, but just supposing here….I’m as mystified to his declared dalliance with that declasse’ dilettante as I am with his connubial vicissitudes….) Maybe it’s something that Silas never even quite put his finger on….he is an oncologist after all, not a psychologist, but what if he was so beaten down by Nina’s duplicitous doings and denial of it all these years that the cruel, chilling truth could only now be dawning on him in the guise of seemingly uncaring nonchalance???? Given his re-emergent wife’s squirrely antics, I simply cannot fathom that she had no symptoms of this psychosis in her pre-comatose condition….it’s like trying to imagine Franco as an amiable, innocuous boy in the form of Bobby Frank….ain’t never happened!!!! That’s why I’m having such an immensely difficult time mustering any empathy or sadness for the indignities Nina has suffered….it’s too hard to envisage this viperous virago as anything but an atrociously annoying albatross…..even back in the day. In a word, her escapades are exhausting….there is a cloying neediness to her that extends beyond the brain-induced infirmity from which she has returned, as if it were always part of her mental makeup. Of course, even if all my suppositions are correct, that does not give license to Silas’ unfaithfulness, but I’m quite hard pressed to believe that everything was as rosy as described prior to the pivotal onset of Nina’s coma….particularly, was all really forgiven way back then???? Me thinks not…..I’m just not prepared to accept the scenario we’ve been force-fed at face value…..could it be a case of revisionist history???? I realize all these ruminations are only speculation, but I somehow cannot escape this sneaking suspicion and skepticism where the tale of the Clays is concerned…..I’m expecting that there’s much more than meets the eye or has previously been revealed…..just an inkling I have. Maybe the return of Madeline will glean some more elucidating clues….or further muddy the waters……LOL. Having said that, CeeCee—and incidentally, I apologize for this lengthy, rambling discourse…I was enumerating the myriad of musings that have been nagging me for awhile now—I don’t take issue with your interpretations of Nina’s point of view, Silas’ personal culpability in this God-awful imbroglio or the notion that MS is your favorite actress, and thus, can pretty much do no wrong in your estimation. I’m just offering to you a differing perspective on why the details of this storyline and its moral parameters are not quite as clear cut as you have proposed…..after all, this is NOT real life…it is a soap and therefore, nothing is as it seems, right????? (Now if we were dealing with reality, then right on with your sizing up of the situation….and in your Granda’s precise terminology, no less!!!!) Finally, no, you’re not losing it…you just possess as inquisitive a mind as I do….and with that comes an unquenchable thirst for making sense of that which sometimes lacks any semblance of such!!!! P.S. When do you return to your teaching post? Also, if you don’t mind my asking, are you in public or private education? Hey Ms. Shay…After reading, squinting, enlarging the print and putting my screen under bright lights I got through your response to CeeCee. (just kidding. no I’m not. paragraphs…break in to paragraphs please so I don’t miss one single word of wisdom…or bone of contention…dependent upon my interpretation at the moment!) :/

I disagree with one particular aspect of your critique with Nina. You expected her to be some petite, demure, fragile flower. Am I correct? I didn’t get that from Silas’s recollections. I got that she was vibrant, fun, spontaneous…full of life. And I can see that in this incarnation of Nina. She’s extremely attractive, model-esque in build…quick-witted even in the midst of being nasty. She also has the ability to be loyal as we see in her relationship with Franco.

I also think, while you may be right that she had some demons or some serious faults prior to the coma which may have led to Silas cheating (did he ever say why he cheated? I don’t recall…) that a lot of what she’s doing is out of despair, rejection, dejection, frustration, loss, abandonment issues, mommy issues, the (supposed) loss of her child…the medical ramifications that Dr. O spoke of today that sometimes happens with long-term comatose people. So, I can UNDERSTAND why she’s been creating havoc…but that doesn’t mean that I like it. I am completely on the side of Silas, I am relieved that he finally realized what she’s been up to…and I find no fault in how he’s going about finding out. He really had no other choice…not doing so all this time’s made him look like a fool. I mean…he’s a doctor. How did he not know he was drugged? She was also partly responsible for Rafe’s demise. She manipulated him into leaving the security of his home. He’d never have been in that car accident if she hadn’t pushed him to leave. To make matters worse, she showed no remorse when he was in a coma and actually wanted him to die. There’s no coming back from that in terms of Silas. Silas owes her nothing.

Given that Silas is depicted as a good guy with a heart…I still think in the end he’ll try to get her help…but I’d be disappointed if he continued with the marriage. I do think as I mentioned several times that Nina and Franco will be…or should be… a super couple in their own right! I really do think Ron and his gang created Nina as the female Franco (formerly known but still bascially the same guy…Todd).

    Shay replied

So sorry for the eyestrain, rebecca1! I tend to avoid paragraphs because they disturb my creative flow, and also when I write such long missives, I’m loathe to add any more length to the already copious amount of space I’ve utilized. I’ll try to control my loquacious impulses in the future…LOL. At any rate, yes, I did harbor a most differing image of LaNina in my mind….I was expecting a rather angelic, fair and somewhat fragile beauty, though not without a vivacious, sparkling and spunky streak, as well. Part of this came from Silas’ heartfelt, loving recollections, but also from the notion that I just could not envision the reed-thin ME with anything but a sweetly-petite paramour (like Sam and the other character KM portrayed in her previous coupling with him. For that same reason, I’ve always had a truly hard time imagining him cavorting with the statuesque Ava.) Also, once Mama Madeline was revealed in the stunningly striking personage of Donna Mills, I particularly had it imprinted on my mind that her daughter would be a beguiling blonde chip-off-the-old-Magda….maybe like a Sarah Michelle Geller type???? (I’ve been hard put to actually come up with a roster of daytime actresses I would have cast in the role….it will hit me one day!!! Emme Rylan may have worked were she not already GH’s LuLu! Or even an un-Dixie-like Cady McClain????) Hence, to say that the physical reality of MS as Clay’s long-lamented wife really did not work for me is an understatement….primarily, I found her to be too fit and fettle to initially pass as a believable invalid, not to mention hard-edged and aggressive…..not at all a soft, delicate, romantic figure….additionally, as MS’s forte’ is obviously providing comic relief, I would have preferred her in a far different capacity…something more madcap and eccentric—perhaps as a long-lost Q?—not as a party to a tragic love story….just saying. Moreover, once Stafford indeed materialized in the form of Nina, I couldn’t bury my notion that this woman was, and always had been, a just-simmering-below-the-surface whack job….let’s face it, she simply doesn’t do “nice and normal”—she will forever be “Phyllis”—-so out the window went any kind of sympathy or pre-conceived feelings of goodwill I may have held for the coma survivor….especially as more of her twisted tale unfolded, the greater my distaste for the character became….and it grew exponentially when it became apparent that Dr. Clay was being played for a complete fool by his vengeful spouse! (To say Silas’ triumphant moment of truth regarding this calculating chick’s duplicity was delicious goes beyond description!) Thus, that basically encapsulates why I have experienced such exasperation and disapproval with the escapades of “Phyllina.” As for the concept of pairing this vexing virago with Franco, I will admit that they have a certain psychotic simpatico between them, but I’m not really sure I want to see RoHo saddled with the responsibility of redeeming the up-until-now disappointing character of Nina. He has already been mired in that thankless Carly purgatory for what seems an eternity, and I do want the man to get the chance to start afresh. I’m not convinced that hooking him up with a fellow pariah like Ms. Clay will do much to improve his lot in Port Charles…..and I do like Franco!!!!! I want to see him get a fabulous, quirky and meaningful storyline once he shakes his Carly shackles!!!!

They brought AJ back to ignite the quartermaine Fire, but it kinda fell flat. Personally, my favorite GH story lines were the mob ones, where Jason, Sonny, Carly, and Sam had adventures and fought against their enemies. I guess I’m more entertained by that then the family money drama that the quartermaines deal with. Still, I’m curious to see where this goes. I think one of the problems with soap fans is that many of them live too much in the past and can’t be open to the future possibilities. If Jason Q is in the works, then let’s see how far they can take it. But if Jason Morgan is final destination, I’d be good with that too lol.

AJ didn’t fall flat. They tripped him until he fell on his face, couldn’t get back up…then murdered him! He coulda/shoulda been a contender… sigh……….

I get angry every single time he is on the screen. A recast should still be aware of the character that they were hired to portray. No matter how amnesiac Jason is he would not be chatty and worried about his physical appearance. Send him back to Y and R now!

I don’t think there’s a person alive who, after having their face squashed and receiving a new one, wouldn’t “worry about his physical appearance”…even Jason Morgan. It’s not like he recited, “mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all…”

I have spent the last year having 5 major surgeries regarding my physical appearance. I understand more than most. I don’t like Billy’s portrayal of Jason. Jason was a man of few words but with heart. It doesn’t come across with Billy.

And…I don’t see anything excessive that was written in the dialogue…the bandages came off and he asked Liz how he looked…then he said, “that bad?”

    Great recast!

Sorry, Amy…I disagree. I never saw Billy Miller before this role; I think in the little airtime he’s had thus far he’s fantastic. Great speaking voice, love his face and how he uses it to express everything…understated yet commanding. He is not Steve Burton…and he’s not portraying the same Jason. He’s portraying a man who’s been held captive, preserved on ice, resurrected, run over, mauled and gone through major reconstructive surgery…not to mention he has amnesia. Even with all that I STILL get a sense of Jason. There’s a certain way he presents himself that is reminiscent. As for my first reply to you, I stand by that as well. Even Steve Burton’s Jason would have wondered how he looked.

I’m not familiar with Billy Miller’s work before seeing him on GH, but I’m impressed so far and Becky Herbst and him have great chemistry.

Here’s what i just realized. It took a car accident to get Miller out of Y&R, and another one to get him in GH. Is that just me, or is GH trying to brag that they have Billy and they don’t.

I’m sorry, I know it’s a different actor and a “different” Jason Morgan however I don’t like that he strays too much from the original version. There’s too much history there with the original Jason to have this new Jason be too different too soon.

I liked when “Jake” met Helena on the docks. He acted and looked like the original Jason, right down to the same hairstyle. That was great, It felt believable that Jason was really in there somewhere. I hope we see more of “that” Jason and not the “King of the World” Jason…
